This is a two volume set. Volume 1 tells the story from Belle’s point of view, and volume two we see the Beast’s side. Tokyopop has taken the new movie and try to put it in manga form. You know what, stop this. In trying to reinvent Tokyopop and bring it back to the powerhouse it once was, stop ruining beloved Disney stories. They do a fine job of this telling, but it's not great. All the story work was done by the movie people and these books just regurgitate it into a new format. Having the two sides separated is an interesting feature, but only interesting. It does not advance the story any way. Overall, i rate this set predictable and unnecessary.

I don't know how Mallory Reaves did it, but I loved this volume even more than the first! The background of the prince and his early childhood made him a very empathetic character. A must read for all Beauty and the Beast fans!
The drawing is a bit rough especially the main characters Beast and Gaston. They look so huge compared to Belle. I will have to check a printed copy of this at our local Bookstore, because the format from my Adobe Reader goes the other way around, and it is always weird reading manga from an E-reader. All in all its a good manga.
I love these Manga books! Even after enjoying and reviewing a good many of them, I still get a kick out of reading the book backwards. I'm sure children will appreciate that aspect too; it adds to the magical quality.
The artwork and characters add so much to this story with fewer words than book would. Since you can see the expressions on the characters faces, you don't need to have extra words to describe how they are feeling. I like that they added this additional volume to show how things happened from the Beast’s perspective. That definitely was a great idea.
From my experience young children love these books, and as an adult I enjoy them too. I am thrilled that so many classic tales have been rewritten in this style.
An adequate movie companion, it was interesting to read the Beast's side of the story, I was a little disappointed that most of the art from Belle's Tale is re-used in this book.
A different look into how Beast sees and experiences the Beauty (Belle). It is true to the Disney version of Beauty and the Beast. He sees her as unreasonable even though he thinks he is behaving perfectly. The Beast realizes that he must change if he is to have any hope of winning Belle's heart.
Once I started reading this volume, it moved quickly. I do wished that the graphic novel had been colored instead of black and white . It would add even more to the story. This is a worthwhile read!
Just like in Volume 1, the illustrations were beautiful. I absolutely loved how we got to see the Beast's perspective of this story for once. I don't think I've ever really thought about what he goes through during the course of the story but it definitely made me see their romance from a different angle and it added a whole layer of originality to the story.
I think that the concept is a good one but I couldn't help but be distracted by the watermark placed over the images to show that is was an ARC
My thanks to NetGalley and Diamond Book Distributors Tokyopop for an eARC copy of this book to read and review.
This gets one less star than the first volume, as it doesn't really add anything to the storyline, despite being from a different POV, it re-uses a LOT of the artwork from the first volume, which is kind of lazy in my opinion and the action shots are usually SO close up, you can't really tell what is happening, at least not on an eReader.
Same complaints as the first one, I'm a Beauty and the Beast snob, so the high bar of the Disney animated movie was missed by a mile. The real life Disney version was better than this book, which is saying something, as it was pretty bad too.
Skip this, just see the original Disney animated movie and read "Beauty: A Re-telling of Beauty and the Beast" by Robin McKinley. Best book version of B&TB I've read yet. I am open to suggestions for others, feel free to share!
This one is 2 stars and not recommended. I didn't completely hate it, but I really didn't like it.
The art is as charming as in the first part, but the dialogues/insights seem even more crude and unfinished..
I decided to review Belle's Tale and The Beast's Tale together as it is basically the same story, just with different points of view in the separate volumes. The story line is based on Disney's new live-action movie that was recently released in theaters. You really can't go wrong with TokyoPop. Their art is beautiful! Mallory Reeves does a great job in adapting this story in manga form. If you enjoyed the movie, or if you just love Beauty and the Beast tales, you will not be disappointed with this version. If you saw the movie than there won't be anything new here. But, if you haven't then you will see some differences in the original Disney cartoon and this new 2016 version. There is more backstory revealed for both Belle and The Beast. So, that was enlightening. Reeves also gives us some insight as to what the characters are thinking during important parts of the story. Overall, a great adaptation for Beauty and the Beast fans.
I absolutely adored this adaptation from Belle's point of view. The way that the illustrator drew the photos was perfect and I love that it was kept in the traditional manga style. I will definitely be recommending this.
I enjoyed this book. It was nice to read things from the Beast's point of view. This shows that he has more of a range of emotions.
This is a simply wonderful manga retelling of this classic story.
Both this vol. And the first one are pretty awesome and i read them to my kids.
I can honestly say that I enjoyed the second volume of this Manga more than the first. If you do not know what these volumes are about I will give you a brief summary. The first volume is about Belle's perspective of the events that occurred in Beauty and the Beast. This focuses on the live action movie version of the story. The second volume also is about Beauty and the Beast but from the perspective of the Beast. There is something about the Beast's thoughts and also what happens to him during this that really drew me in. I love the story and both of the characters. It was a great idea to show both of the perspectives because it brought a whole new dimension to the story. Beforehand we had never seen their thoughts but now we get a glance into their thoughts.
The drawings done in this Manga are so beautiful and I will show some in the review. The only thing I wish about these is that they were colored because that would be absolutely beautiful. The beast's story is one of my favorites and I think that the author did a great job depicting it in this volume.
While I enjoyed the first volume of this adaptation, I enjoyed this second volume even more. It was a delight to see another side of the story and to be able to see even more of the growth and development of the Beast. As with the previous volume, the art is serviceable but not completely gorgeous. There are some pages that are clearly copied between the two volumes, simply with different overlying dialogue, which I understand, but was still disappointing, when so much else was different (mostly different angles, which makes sense as this volume was from Beast's point of view). This volume also had the problem of the first, in that many of the text in the panels was not actually aligned that way in which it was clearly meant to be read; I will admit that it was better than in the previous volume though. Both volumes of this adaptation will be purchased for my library, and I fully expect them to fly off the shelves.
This is the second part of Disney Beauty and the Beast series which is the tale from Beast's point of view. I have give it an extra half point, you know why? Because it was refreshing to read this story from Beast's POV. Everybody knows Belle's POV but it was different to see this new angle.
And similar to the first one, this was also beautiful. Although, I think Beast is drawn more beautifully than Belle. Also, the artwork was very detailed like the Rose room, beasts's library and his court. It felt really great to read about different emotions of Beast. We have always seen him angry, but we didn't knew what was in his back of mind. But here, all his emotions were portrayed greatly.
"In learning to become human again, I realized...
There is never just one lesson to be learned, there are many.
Growing is a process, it never stops.
Beauty isn't about what you have... Its about what you can share.
I may not be there yet, But I can see the path.
And for once I realize.. I'm not walking it alone."
I really enjoyed reading it. It was a quick read. I highly recommend this complete series to all the Beauty and the Beast lovers out there :)
Overall: 4/5
Cover: 5/5
Illustrations: 5/5
Editing: 4/5
Appealing: 4.5/5
After reading book 1, I had high expectations for this one. Telling the story from the beast's POV is a very appealing idea, but I felt that this book was too short and lack some details. Originally I was hoping to see deeper insights from the beast's POV and new graphics, like seeing Belle's beauty through the beast's eyes, but many graphics were the same with book 1, which was pretty disappointing.
Still, the book is worth recommending and probably worth-buying as well if you're a perfectionist that likes to collect a complete series.
The Beast's Tale (Disney Beauty and the Beast, #2)
by Mallory Reaves
Connecting to the movie on a new level readers are able to use this book to see the world of Beauty and the Beast from the Beasts point of view. With film slides, and character studies to help the young Manga fan draw their own version of the story. Connected to the new film, with back story that was added to the original.
