An Amish Summer
By: Shelley Shepard Gray , Amy Clipston, Kathleen Fuller , and Kelly Irvin
An Amish Summer is a collection of four different novellas by four different authors. I really enjoyed all these novellas. Each novella was easy to read ,and the story and the characters, both were well developed. The Amish is really just like the English , we each have some of the same problems, we both just deal with them in different ways. The authors write of trust and forgiveness. Each novella drew me in quickly . They were sweet clean romance . Shelley Shepard Gray, Amy Clipston, Kathleen Fuller , and Kelly Irvin, these authors all did a fantastic job on each novella.
I received a complimentary copy from NetGalley , but was not told that I had to give a positive review.
(The first book is part of a series, but works perfectly as a 'stand-alone' story.)
These are lightweight stories, with characters that seem to be pushing the boundaries
as far as Amish behaviour goes. I must admit I was rather disappointed with each of
them, but they are probably quite acceptable if all you are looking for is a 'palate-
cleanser' between weightier tomes...
What a delightful collection of stories from my favourite authors...thank you for the opportunity to read/share this novel. Loved it!!!
Relaxing and interesting summer fare for fans of Amish fiction
The title says it all -- this is a lovely group of 4 novellas, perfect for a summer day or night. Each is stand-alone, has unique and well-developed characters and plot. I found it a perfect book on an extended plane trip.
One of the most interesting parts of each story for me was the depiction of vacation time for Amish, locations, transport and activities.
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for a time-limited advanced e-copy, with no obligation.
An Amish Summer is a collection of four novellas by 4 popular Amish fiction authors. Being that I've read books by all of these authors it was fun to catch up on characters I had previously met in the author's previous books. These stories were very enjoyable reads that dealt with some tough issues. Life is the Amish world, just like in ours isn't all peaches and cream. the authors dealt with the issues in a classy way and showed us the perfect example of forgiveness and trust and leading by example. I look forward to reading many more books by all of these authors.

Thank you to NetGalley and Thomas Nelson--FICTION for a review copy in exchange for my honest review.
A new novella collection of sweet, summer romances from some of my favorite Amish authors. Short and quick to read doesn’t mean boring!
A Reunion in Pinecraft by Shelley Shepard Gray
This one was a surprise. The storyline didn’t go the way I thought it would. Graham learns that honesty is always the best policy, while Sherry and Sharon learn about forgiveness. A fun romance with a twist, Author Shelley Shepard Gray never disappoints!
Summer Storms by Amy Clipston
Trust is betrayed as Author Amy Clipston writes about a subject seldom mentioned in the Amish community. This story will remind you that people can change. That with God, they can start over. Arianna and her father also learn that judging people, based on what you think you see, is wrong. A wonderful short story of redemption.
Lakeside Love by Kathleen Fuller
We should never comparing ourselves to another, or feel that we don’t measure up, as Author Kathleen Fuller shows us in this novella. Struggling with jealousy, Esther learns that she has value, that she isn’t unlovable. And that God has great things for her; she just needs to be patient. A great reminder for all of us!
One Sweet Kiss by Kelly Irvin
Sometimes we try to fill roles we aren’t called to fill. Caregiver, Fixer, etc. Author Kelly Irvin takes us into the lives of Jacob and Martha who are trying to do just that. The problems this cause looks insurmountable, but God, as we see, surprises us sometimes. A wonderful story of healing and forgiveness.
I received a complimentary copy of this book but was not required to leave a review.
An Amish Summer brings together four popular Amish Fiction authors for summer themed romance stories.
The first story in this collection is A Reunion in Pinecraft by Shelley Shepard Gray. I was excited to see Shelley as part of this collection. I recently read her book Her Secret and really enjoyed it. That made me excited about this novella.
At first, this story was a little confusing, but I almost think that was a good thing. I know that sounds odd, but let me share this story with you. Sharon and Sherilyn (Sherry) Kramer are sisters. However, their names sound very similar, which makes the story confusing.
Now imagine what happens when Graham, who was at the same wedding as Sharon and Sherilyn are supposed to meet. Graham had been writing to one of the sisters, but when they reunite, he finds out he was writing to the wrong one.
Like I said, it was confusing to keep everyone straight, but I almost feel like that helped me understand Graham a little better. I mean, if I was confused, imagine his surprise and confusion!
Overall, this was an enjoyable story. It had a unique storyline, which made it interesting. I’m not sure I loved the similarity in the names as it was confusing, but it was still an enjoyable read.
The next book is Summer Storms by Amy Clipston. In this story, Arianna is counting down the days until her wedding to Jesse. Her brother, Isaac, puts himself in a dangerous situation and Jesse tries to help him.
Things don’t go as planned and Jesse and Arianna’s future together becomes threatened. In Amy’s usual style, I was drawn into this story and really enjoyed the romantic elements.
The next story is Lakeside Love by Kathleen Fuller. Esther has always been in the shadow of her sister, Sarah, who is beautiful and not to mention younger than Esther. Boys have been after
An Amish Summer is a collection of novellas from four of today's leading Amish fiction authors.
All four novellas are just as good as I expected them to be considering they were penned by some of my favorite authors
My favorite is Sumer Storm By Amy Clipston
I found her characters to be more developed and mature and the story was much more in-depth with Arianna and Jesse having a history together. I found her fathers concern for her to be realistic and heart warming. I can totally relate to a protective dad.
I liked the fact that Arianna and Jesse are respectful of her fathers wishes and yet they remain commited to each other.
Each of the novellas are fast and pleasant to read. I definitely consider this to be a perfect summer, lazy day guilty pleasure.

A new novella collection of sweet, summer romances from some of our favorite Amish authors!
A Reunion in Pinecraft by Shelley Shepard Gray
When sisters Sharon and Sherilyn Kramer attend a wedding in Shipshewana, one of them returns with a new penpal while the other returns to her job at the bakery. After sending weekly letters back and forth, Sherry and Graham Holland arrange a reunion in Pinecraft. Upon Graham’s arrival, however, he realizes he’s been writing to the wrong sister. He decides to use the reunion as a way to get to know both sisters, but can he sort through the confusion in time to turn the worst vacation ever into something truly wonderful?
My thoughts: A Reunion in Pinecraft is a sweet romance written in Ms. Gray's distinctive style. Two sisters, attracted to the same man. One man, confused about which sister he really wants. The one he wrote to or the one he dreamed about. A double romance plays out in this story, and I adored it. I think the Pinecraft novels and novellas are my favorites by this author. I like her sweet, innocent style. Loved it.
Summer Storms by Amy Clipston
Arianna is counting down the days until her wedding to Jesse. They have been friends longer than Arianna can remember, and that friendship turned into love over the past couple of years. But when Arianna’s brother Tobias, who happens to be Jesse’s best friend, gets them both into trouble, Arianna’s father puts an end to her engagement to Jesse. Some summer storms pass quickly, but Arianna is afraid the damage from this one may be too much to repair.
My thoughts: Summer Storms is a romance by Ms. Clipston that deals with a realistic problem that some Amish have. I couldn't connect with Arianna as well as I wanted to, but Jesse is a sweetheart. I hated that he was judged unfairly by both Arianna and her father for trying to help Tobias with his troubles, struggles, and bad decisions, but it's real. I loved how he went the extra mile to prove himself worthy to both Arianna and her father. There are some lingering questions at the end of the story, but overall, good. I haven't read all of Ms. Clipston's books so I'm not sure if this one was part of one of her series.
Lakeside Love by Kathleen Fuller
Esther has always lived in the shadow of her beautiful younger sister Sarah. Even the boy she has known—and loved—her entire life, Judah, only has eyes for Sarah. But when a handsome young Englischer comes to live with the family for a summer, everything begins to change.
My thoughts: Lakeside Love by Ms. Fuller is unique as in its about a plain Amish girl who's home has turned into a tourist attraction by her dad who wants to earn money. She's a sweet, friendly girl who has a low opinion of herself because she's not pretty. When her sister starts flirting with an Englisch man in addition to every other man in town and lashes out at Esther for being friendly, it causes a strain between the sisters. Judah is young and confused, and I'm glad Rhett spoke words of truth to him and helped him find his true feelings. I absolutely loved this story. Like with Ms. Clipston, I haven't read all of Ms. Fuller's books, so I don't know if this was intended as part of one of her series. Either way, it was a totally adorable story.
One Sweet Kiss by Kelly Irvin
Everybody in little Bee County, Texas, can see the obvious: Jacob King and Martha Byler are meant to be together. Everyone, that is, but Martha. Ever since her mother died when Martha was a young girl, she has taken over the role of caregiver to her large family. And reckless Jacob, who has had a little too much fun on his rumspringa, only seems to add to the list of people to manage. But one summer changes everything, and these two may just find a way to meet in the middle and share one sweet kiss.
My thoughts: One Sweet Kiss is about an on-again off-again couple who both parent the community. Martha had to be a mama to her family since she was ten and she doesn't want to raise Jacob. But what she doesn't see is that Jacob is a "pa" to a special boy and an oversize 'kid' who's married with kids of his own. Add an alligator to the mix and you have a recipe for action, adventure, and danger. This story is definitely part of Ms. Irvin's Bee County series, which I've read all of so far.
Altogether this is a great collection and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it. Highly recommended for fans of Amish romance, it earns a solid 4 stars.
An Amish Summer is a collection of four novellas by Amy Clipston, Kathleen Fuller, Kelly Irvin and Shelley Shepard Gray. A Reunion in Pinecraft by Shelley Shepard Gray takes readers to Pinecraft, Florida where Graham Holland and Sherry Kramer have agreed to meet. The two have been corresponding for six months after meeting at a wedding in Shipshewana. Sherry is joined by her sister, Sharon and their friends, Vera and Carla. Upon arrival Graham realizes he has made a mistake. Graham has been writing to the wrong sister. He met both sisters at the wedding very briefly, but one made a bigger impression (he just got their names mixed up). How does Graham tell Sherry about his error? He decides to keep it a secret for the time being (not a good idea). During the vacation, Graham spends time with both sisters, and he ends up more confused. When Graham finally figures out his feelings, Sherry discovers his secret (about the mix-up). How will this story end?
Summer Storms by Amy Clipston is set in Maryland at Cascade Lake. Arianna Smucker is looking forward to her wedding to Jesse Zook in November. But then Jesse tries to help Tobias, his best friend and Arianna’s brother. Jesse and Tobias have a buggy accident that lands Jesse in trouble with Marvin Smucker, Arianna’s father. He calls of Jesse and Arianna’s engagement. Can Jesse repair the damage and get back in Marvin and Arianna’s good graces? Will there be a wedding for this couple in November?
Kathleen Fuller contributed Lakeside Love. Esther Coblentz lives on Coblentz Farm with her parents, brother and sister. Esther has liked Judah King for years, but Judah only has eyes for her pretty sister, Sarah. Rhett Davidson, an Englischer and college student, is staying with the family for a month. Esther makes friends with Rhett as she introduces him to Amish life. Judah starts to notice Esther in a different light and it confuses him. Is there a chance for Esther and Judah?
One Sweet Kiss by Kelly Irvin takes readers back to Bee County, Texas. Martha Byler is attracted to Jacob King, but he has yet to put his rumspringa behind him. One night Jacob is taking Martha home when they are stopped by a very drunk Dwayne. Dwayne wishes to go alligator hunting in the dark and out of season. Jacob cannot leave Dwayne to his own devices and assists him much to Martha’s dismay. Martha helped raise her younger siblings for the last ten years, and she wants a responsible person for her partner. Over the summer, Martha spends more time with Jacob and starts noticing a change within him. There just might be a future for Jacob and Martha.
An Amish Summer contains four well-written and engaging stories. I liked the characters and the different settings. All the stories have the familiar theme of love and enjoying the summer months. Each story has a different moral or life lesson which include forgiveness, faith, power of prayer, trust, commitment, confidence in yourself, and responsibility. I thought each novella was just the right length. I found the stories to be uplifting, and I was left with a good feeling when I finished this book. I give An Amish Summer 5 out of 5 stars. My favorite story was A Reunion in Pinecraft. It had a lighter feeling to it and it was nice to revisit the Orange Blossom Inn in Pinecraft (The Pinecraft Brides series). One Sweet Kiss had a slower pace than the other novellas, but it was nice to catch up with characters from The Amish of Bee County series. The stories can be purchased separately or in one volume. An Amish Summer contains charming, tender stories that will appeal to your romantic side.

Novella's are so hard for me. I miss out on things that simply can't be accomplished in such a short span. The author did a really good job of taking a previous event and making it real through the letters and interactions of the participants. She set the scene of the mix-up so well that you don't feel like you missed a terrible lot. It did bothered me that he seemed so clueless and wasn't able to separate what was in his eyes from what was in his heart and head from the letters. I feel like opportunities to develop more into these characters was lacking and there were a few phrasings that seemed awkward and off. Gaa, to review a short novella in a short paragraph is hard! This was a great first story to this compilation and I'd definitely be interested in seeing these characters in a full length novel.
Summer Storm by Amy Clipston

I feel like I just read the Amish version of an After School Special. Only better. And not cheesy. The author managed to build characters, a plot, and a cohesive story in a novella package that leaves you feeling like you almost read a short full-length novel. An emotionally abuse father, poor choices as teens that affect how other's view you as an adult, and using alcohol as a coping mechanism. Any of that feel like it would easily describe any English family on any street in America? It's not just any English family in America, it's the Smucker family in Amish country. It's real and gritty and engaging and I don't think I'd want it any other way.
Lakeside Love by Kathleen Fuller
Esther has always lived in the shadow of her beautiful younger sister Sarah. Even the boy she has known and loved her entire life, Judah, only has eyes for Sarah. But when a handsome young Englischer comes to live with the family for a summer, everything begins to change.
How do I begin to review this novella. I really liked the story in that it pulled everything together in such a sweet way without resorting too much into cliche. However, there were a few near pet peevy things that my mind keeps wandering back to. Not soap box material but well...I don't know. What bothered me the most is the way Judah and Ester's feelings changed so quickly. While it's more realistic to think that Judah did realize quickly what he had been missing with Ester, how Ester's change in thought and belief I just can't buy. When you feel backseat your entire life and someone that you care for suddenly professes their love it's not an 'oh really, I love you too' moment. It's more a are you pulling my leg, what do you want, why do you tease me sort of moment. It's a taking time to show over and over again that it's real and developing trust in new feelings. This story was sweet and engaging. The characters were well developed for such a short time span though with the 'one year later' after part I feel like so very much was lost. These characters would do better as a full length novel where their whole story could come to life.
What could have been an incredible story lost something at the edges. First, it was hard to truly get into sync with the characters as they seem to have ties into an ongoing story-line elsewhere so there was history and development that are lost. I feel like Martha uses her mother as a crutch to not make changes for herself and move forward. Don't get me wrong, I can't begin to imagine the long term effects of such an event happening at such a tender age, but she brings it up as an 'excuse' at such awkward moments that don't blend well to the story and leave me a little bamboozled. Like the first story in this book, some of the phrasing was off and read awkwardly. There were some rough scene transitions as well. I loved the side story of Simon and Amanda. This story would have greatly benefited from my knowledge of events that played out here but are obviously referenced in other books.
I was provided a complimentary copy of this book by Kathleen Fuller and NetGalley. I was not compensated for this review and all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own. I was not required to write a positive review.
Four very enjoyable novellas about relationships that readers can relate with. Each story gives insight into the Amish way of life. Some of their issues are not unlike issues dealt with by the 'English'. Lessons can be learned from these stories.
The four stories are separate but intertwine in that they all deal with the hardships of young adulthood and merging your life with another in marriage.
In A Reunion in Pinecraft by Shelley Shepard Gray we learn that just because something is not what we expected, doesn't mean it is bad. This was the perfect story to keep the Pinecraft series going.
In Summer Storms by Amy Clinton we learn you protect those that you love most but sometimes you also hurt those you love the most.
In Lakeside Love by Kathleen Fuller it shows outside beauty doesn't always ensure happiness. One must look past physical beauty to the inner beauty to really know someone.
In One Sweet Kiss by Kelly Irvin you are taught that letting go is sometimes the best way to find love. This story has made me want to read the other books that take place in Bee, Texas.
These short stories are perfect for a summer day at the pool or beach. They allow you to stop and start very easily.
Thank you to NetGalley and Thomas Nelson for an ARC copy to read and provide a review based on my own honest opinion.
Once again, these four authors do not disappoint! I enjoyed each of the four novellas. Irvin was a new author for me. I would like to explore her Amish world better. Clipstone is my favorite. I loved the varied settings. Each story was intriguing and held my attention. A quick read that left me eager to read more!
A Reunion in Pinecraft by Shelley Shepard Gray
This short story brings to mind a mistake, which it was, and what to do about it. The letters from the individual you fell in love with does not match the person you thought they were from. What a great concept, and all through the read you wonder who will end up with whom or will anyone?
Loved being back in Pinecraft Florida and our favorite Inn, and how I’ve missed being here. I loved that we are brought back and updated on life here.
Summer Storms by Amy Clipston
I could see both parties of this couple making mistakes that are about to come back to haunt them. Arianna has loved Jesse almost her whole life, and now they are not even allowed to be together.
Quick judgment on the part of all, and a relationship is thrown away, fictional yes, but the author has shown us that this can really happen.
Will this couple be able to over come all that has happened to them, or will they each have to travel down a different road?
Lakeside Love by Kathleen Fuller
Esther seems to think of herself as the ugly duckling in the family, her sister Sarah seems to be the star and makes men’s heads turn, and she is the reserved quiet sister, always taking the back seat.
I loved how the author has presented a blooming flower in the name of Esther, she wears her heart on her shoulder, but the one she wears it for doesn’t seem to be able to see beyond Sarah.
Will the two you feel should be together overcome all and end up as one, or will the new comer in the form of an Englisher end up with one of these sisters. I loved this story.
One Sweet Kiss by Kelly Irvin
We are back with our friends in Bee Country, and the author has made these families feel so real, they could be living next door.
Jacob and Martha are meant to be together, but insecurities it seems are keeping them apart. I loved the heart of Jacob, he is a man who seems to live his faith, but Martha sees it differently.
Will these two be able to find happiness, or will others succeed in tearing them apart?
I received this book through Net Galley and the Publisher Thomas Nelson, and was not required to give a positive review.
I absolutely loved this story. You will love each character in all the stories. All 4 of these author's have A way of getting these stories easy to read cause they r so very good. They have such talent in their writing. They do their research and makes it so fun to read. You will enjoy An Amish summer pick up your copy June 6th.
Amish Summer: Four Novellas
Four of my favorite authors teamed up to bring four short stories that are fun, sweet, and charming. These stories remind us that love doesn’t always look like we expect it to, no matter who we are.
In the first story, A Reunion in Pinecraft by Shelley Shepard Gray, two sisters, Sharon and Sherilyn, are excited to go to the bed and breakfast in Pinecraft and meet friends. One friend in particular has Sherilyn excited: Graham. They have been writing for months, ever since meeting at a wedding. What she doesn’t know though, is that Graham thinks he is writing to her sister Sharon, whom he also met at the wedding. What happens next is a mess of confusion as he tries to get to know them both without hurting anyone’s feelings. Which sister will he truly fall for? And, will she forgive him when she discovers his pretenses and deception? Readers will enjoy watching it all unfold.
In the second story, Summer Storms by Amy Clipston, Arianna and Jesse are engaged to be married. She has loved him since she was eight years old and can’t wait for her wedding day. However, when her brother Tobias gets drunk at a party and wants to race buggies, Arianna’s father gets angry with Jesse and demands that the engagement is off. Arianna is heartbroken, but also confused. Who was drinking that night? Was Jesse drinking also, and if so, why? How can they work through it if they aren’t allowed to speak? When Tobias takes things even further than drinking, the whole family is upset and confused. What will happen next? Will Arianna and Jesse be allowed to marry? This story is sweet and fans of Amy’s will want to hear more about this family after the story ends!
The third story, Lakeside Love by Kathleen Fuller, tells the tale of Esther. She is a plain and shy girl, who has always felt like she lives in her sister’s shadow. Even the boy she has loved for years, Judah, doesn’t see her when her sister is around. However, when a handsome young English man comes to stay for several weeks, she soon finds herself coming out of her shell. What’s more, Judah seems to be seeing her for the first time as well. But, that can’t be right, because he is in love with her sister! As she tries to understand his mixed signals, he is trying to figure out his own thoughts and feelings. Which sister does he love? And, what should he do about it?
The final story is One Sweet Kiss by Kelly Irvin. Martha lost her mom when she was young and became the lady of the house. She took care of and raised her younger brothers and sisters. Her father has recently remarried, but Martha is afraid to reach out and love again. What if whoever she loves gets hurt, or worse, dies like her mother did? Jonas also lost his mom when he was younger and he and Martha have shared a special bond for years. He loves her and wishes to marry her, but he is also still in his rumsrpinga, and she is afraid he will never grow up. Can she look past her fears and can he be the man she needs him to be?
All of these stories are very good. I would love to continue reading about the characters and discover what happens to them in the future. I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone who loves Amish fiction. I received a free copy of this book for my honest opinion from NetGalley.
I absolutely love reading Amish novellas, and these four ladies are superior authors in their own right. I really enjoyed this book, and the variety of stories. I love that I can sit down and read and entire novella in just one sitting.
Each story was a great story about love and happiness, set in various summer locations. The four novellas all have distinct qualities specific to their authors, but blend together in a wonderful collection.
* Note: I am unable to publish my review on Amazon at this time because they have not opened reviews for this title.
Thank you NetGalley for sending me a free copy of this book to read and review!
An Amish Summer is a collection of four novellas by some of my ABSOLUTE favorite Amish-fiction writers. Each of the novellas is reviewed below:
A Reunion in Pinecraft by Shelley Shepard Gray. This novella was based on an honest mistake on the part of our male lead and the choices he has to make when confronted with that mistake. Although I can see how the story might end up the way it did, and I know that happy outcomes drive sales, but sometimes, it is ok to NOT get that happy ending. This story seemed ripe for that kind of a resolution and a turn in the plot for other characters and other stories. Novellas like this one, where they are tied to an already established setting (Pinecraft), provide an opportunity to give the reader a different experience, and I think that opportunity was lost here. 2 stars
Summer Storm by Amy Clipston. I'm not sure why, but had to start this novella over twice before I could figure out who Jesse and Tobias were in relation to Adrianna. Maybe it just didn't capture my attention, or just jumped in too fast without my being invested in any of the characters. I thought the female lead and her father were much too judgmental, mistrusting, and unbelievable. The only emotion I felt from Adrianna that seemed true was her upset that, although she was mad at her fiance, when her father took her control away, she realized that she did want to try to patch it up. 1 star
Lakeside Love by Kathleen Fuller. This novella really drew me in. The characters felt real, and the twists were believable and true to life. The circumstances reflect what many of us go through as we grow into adulthood and the people we will be throughout life. I want to go back and read more about Esther and Judah, but I'm not sure that I'd want to read another book about Sarah. 4 stars
One Sweet Kiss by Kelly Irvin. I was so excited for this trip back to Bee County, and the novella did not disappoint. Although the story was short, it did give me the sense that life in Bee County is going on as it should -- kind of like peeking into one of those Easter eggs with a scene instead, or gazing into the town inside a snow globe or Hallmark Christmas ornament. Now, I just have to wait for another full-length novel from Ms. Irvin! 4 stars, rather than 5, just because Martha was so distrustful throughout.
I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the individual authors but, as indicated by the stars above, this collection was a hit and miss for me.
A great collection of novellas by four terrific authors. Each story is well written with a good storyline. I loved each selection in the collection.
