An Amish Summer - Shelley Shepard Gray, Amy Clipston, Kathleen Fuller, Kelly Irvin
This is an enjoyable, relaxing summer read by four great Amish authors.
A Reunion in Pinecraft – Shelley Shepard Gray.
Sisters, Sharon and Sherilyn (Sherry) Kramer take a vacation to the famous Amish vacationland of Pinecraft, FL to meet up with Sherry’s pen pal, Graham. Sherry feels this will be a wonderful time of reunion, and possible commitment to each other, only to be surprised by a turn of events. Will she and Graham overcome unforeseen obstacles and commit to each other?
Summer Storms – Amy Clipston
Ariana and Jesse have been friends for years and become engaged. They are busy planning their wedding when her brother, Tobias, who also happens to be Jesse’s best friend creates trouble for both he and Jesse that causes Ariana’s father to forbid her to even see Jesse, let alone marry him. Will they be able to weather this storm and find themselves together again and able to be married?
Lakeside Love – Kathleen Fuller
Esther has always loved Judah, but he seems to set his affections for her sister, Sarah. When an Englisher comes to learn about the Amish way of life, and is friendly with Esther, will Judah even notice? Will one of the sisters end up with Judah, or will the handsome Englisher come between them all?
One Sweet Kiss – Kelly Irvin
Martha Byler has had the responsibility of helping raise her siblings since her mother died when Martha was 10. Jacob King, who everyone thinks should be with Martha, seemingly has a somewhat “wild” side that Martha isn’t sure she wants to be a part of. He actually tries to help out one of their friends, but it doesn’t come across that he is being helpful, rather that he is being irresponsible. When Martha and Jacob join forces to help two special needs friends to spend time together, will their hearts be drawn together as well?
I highly recommend this enjoyable book that I received from Thomas Nelson for my unbiased review.
An Amish Summer is a wonderful collection of four summer romance novellas.
In a Reunion in Pinecraft by Shelley Shepard Gray, sisters Sharon and Sherilyn travel to Shipshewana for a wedding, where they both meet Graham. Graham and Sherilyn begin writing letters to one another and look forward to one day meeting again. But when Graham sees Sherilyn, he realizes that he has been writing to the wrong sister. How will he cope with not letting Sherilyn down while getting to know Sharon. This was a great story. I really enjoyed the twists that I honestly didn’t expect.
In a Summer Storm by Amy Clipston, Adrianna and Jesse are happy, in love, and about to be married. When her brother, Jesse’s best friend, messes things up for them, what will happen. Her father refuses to allow the marriage to happen or them to even see each other. Will her father change his mind or will their love be destined to be over. This was a sweet story about overcoming the odds to find each other.
In Lakeside Love by Kathleen Fuller, Esther feels she could never live up to her little sister, Sarah. Sarah is beautiful and has the attention of Judah, the guy Esther has loved for the past several years. When their family hosts an Englischer for the summer, will things change for Esther? I loved this novella! Kathleen did a great job telling Esther’s story. She was very easy to love and cheer for as the story progressed.
In One Sweet Kiss by Kelly Irvin, Martha has been taking care of her family since her mother died when she was a girl. She is so used to mothering, that she even mother’s Jacob. Will she smother him or see him in a different light? Great story, I loved the love story within the story as well.
Each novella stood alone on its own and was a great read. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a good romance or Amish story.
I received this book from the publisher and netgalley in return for my honest opinion.
A Reunion in Pinecraft by Shelley Shepard Gray
Graham and Sherilyn Kramer are writing back and forth to each other. They're planning to meet in Pinecraft, FL. When they get to Florida Sherry's sister Sharon saw Graham and remembered talking to him at the wedding where Sherry and Sharon had both met him. She feels somewhat jealous of Sherry. Graham just realized that he actually had a crush on Sharon, not Sherry. Sherry and Sharon and Graham and his friend were all going to Siesta Key together. Sherry was brave and wore a swimsuit. When they got back home Graham bared his soul and told both sisters how he had accidentally gotten them confused. Toby who is Graham's friend had begun to show an interest in Sharon.
Who will end up together romantically? Will it be Sherry and Graham or Sharon and Graham?
SUMMER STORMS By Amy Clipston. Ariana Smucker was planning her November wedding. Jesse Zook is her fiance. lately, her brother Tobias and her dad have been fighting a lot. Jesse caught Tobias drinking vodka in their barn. He was very disturbed by this. he had a talk with Tobias. Tobias was driving dangerously that evening. He took off in his buggy going way too fast. Jesse was in the buggy behind him with Arianna. They sped up to chase Tobias to get him to slow down. Ariana's dad Marvin forbid Jesse from seeing her after their reckless driving.
Will Tobias learn to get along with his dad and family? Will Jesse and Arianna still get married?
LAKESIDE LOVE Kathleen Fuller
Esther Coblentz loved guiding English tours. Her dad had set up tours of their old house and barn. She had a crush on handsome dark haired Judah King who was helping her dad in the field. However, Judah liked Sarah her sister. Judah asked Sarah out for ice cream and got turned down. Sarah suggested he ask Esther out instead. Judah and Esther went out. The whole time Judah kept asking about Sarah. This made Esther feel jealous. Sarah met Rhett a northern gentleman who came to stay at their farm to learn about the Amish.
Who will Sarah and Esther end up dating? Join them all on an adventurous camping trip. #anamishsummer #shelleysheppardgrey #amyclipston #kellyirving #kathleen fuller #amishromance
This is a delightful set of four novellas. When it comes to Amish fiction, readers tend to look for (and expect!) several things, including: moments when your faith is tested, trusting in God no matter what, and a sense of joy and purpose. The novels offer these quintessential Amish romance characteristics and so much more. I enjoyed reading them--in fact, please forgive my corny example, but my spirit while reading them was as happy as a kite riding the breeze in a sunny sky. I would definitely recommend this set of novellas to others.
I have enjoyed previous books that are like this with four similar stories but try as I might I couldn't finish the book. I enjoyed the story by Amy Clipston and Kathleen Fuller but the other two just weren't my cup of tea.
AN AMISH SUMMER Published by Thomas Nelson release date June 6
A REUNION IN PINECRAFT by Shelley Shepard Grey. Sisters going to a wedding and 1 coming back with a pen pal. After 6 months he comes and realizes he has been writing to the wrong one he wanted. Delightful, of young love, and which did he really love.
SUMMER STORMS by Amy Clipston Young love for Arianna and Jesse turning toward marriage. When her brother Isaac returns and mishaps turn into disaster, and her father told them no marriage. Has too much been done to keep the wedding called off.
LAKESIDE LOVE by Kathleen Fuller. Esther loves Judah yet, he loves her sister Sarah. Judah knows too many interested in her, and she was unpredictable. While Esther was good with children and dependable. Why was he so determined to win Sarah then.
ONE SWEET KISS. by Kelly Irwin. Martha is too busy and feels responsible for her family, with 6 of them still home. Taking it over after her mother dies. Jacob has other plans for Martha, going around with a puppy dog look. She had enough to take care, didn't need another. Could he change her mind, to help her not add more.
All 4 tories dealing with young love, and not smooth sailing for them. You will enjoy and want to encourage them. Delightful for all ages to read.
Given ARC by Net Galley for my voluntary review and my honest opinion.
Every now and then, I need to read a book to "cleanse the palate," and just lose myself in some lighter entertainment. This time it wasn't because I had just read a deeply involved book, but because I was about to read a more deeply involved book. An Amish Summer was just the book I needed to read for this purpose.
A collection of four novellas, each one has its characters (not just the players in the book, but characters in the sense of personality), and its conundrums. There were difficulties to overcome for each couple to make it to the marriage bench. The authors collected here are top knotch Amish writers and are a joy to read. It is entertaining to follow the dialects of the Amish used by the authors in their narratives. Some of the words are the same, but the spelling is different. Some of the words are completely different. The rules or the "Ordnung" are pretty much the same across the four novellas and the reactions to them are pretty uniform, as well.
This is a five-star collection, two thumbs up, and a summer full of fun!
My thanks to Thomas Nelson for allowing me to read and review this book.
I would have been surprised if i didn't have love this book. It was such a joy to read this. As always the autors take me away with their book to a other world i would say. Love love love this book. I did was surprised that the stories didn't continue, from one writer to a other. I'm already looking forward to read a other book of theese writers.
4 more heart warming novellas by 4 of the top genre writers.. each one leaves you with a moral to think about long after you finish reading this book.
This was a series of four Amish novellas written by authors that I have enjoyed over the years. They were Shelley Shepard Gray, Amy Clipston, Kathleen Fuller, and Kelly Irvin. The stories were all different from each other and did not have the same characters and blend into one another, but were all rather unique and different. I did like that first two very, very much. They were my favorite ones.
The cover was really beautiful in my opinion. It was a good series of novellas and I was happy that I was able to read them.
I received and ebook copy of this book from NetGalley for my review which I have given. All thoughts were my own.
An Amish Summer is a collection of four novellas. These novellas include:
A Reunion in Pinecraft by Shelley Shepard Gray. Sharon and Sherilyn travels to Shipshewana for a wedding, where they meet Graham. Graham and Sherilyn starts writing letters to one another and look forward to one day meeting again. But there is a twist, Graham finds that he has been writing to the wrong sister. What does he do now?
Summer Storm Amy Clipston. Adrianna and Jesse are happy, in love, and about to be married. Only her brother comes along and ruins it and her father refuses to allow the marriage to happen. Will he change his mind or will Adrianna's love be lost to her forever?
Lakeside Love by Kathleen Fuller. Esther feels she could never be like her little sister, Sarah. Sarah is the beautiful one and even has the attention of Judah, the one Esther has loved most of her life. How will things change when a Englischer comes to visit for the summer?
One Sweet Kiss by Kelly Irvin. Martha has been taking care of her family since her mother died when she was young. She, also, feels she needs to take care of wild boy Jacob. How will one summer change her world forever?
I thought An Amish Summer was pretty good. I enjoyed all of the short, sweet and clean Amish stories. My favorite would have to be Kelly Irvin's One Sweet Kiss. I would recommend this book as it is definitely worth a read.
Four stars.
I received this book from the publisher, but was not required to write a review. This review is 100% my own honest opinion.
I'm a fan of these collections, each centering around a theme, and this book is no exception. My favorite story, however, from this collection was the very last one. While not unexpected in a Plain community, the theme is not typically found in Plain fiction. As the mother of a special needs child, it did my heart good to read this story. That's not to undermind the other three stories, which are equally as well-written. But that's the beauty of a collection such as this - there will be at least one story that truly touches your heart!
Novella collections such as "An Amish Summer" are always a real treat for readers. These are a chance to lose oneself in a beautiful story, actually in this case 4 beautiful stories; and because each one is not full novel length, they are ideal if you have limited reading time. "An Amish Summer" contains stories written by some of my favorite authors in this genre. I believe my two favorites here were " A Reunion in Pinecraft" and "Summer Storms".
In "A Reunion for Pinecraft", it was a pleasure to "re visit" through reading, the town of Pinecraft and the Orange Blossom inn previously seen in Shelley Shepard Gray's earlier series based in Pinecraft. The Sarasota area is one of my favorites here in Florida. And it was entertaining and charming to read about Sharon and Sherry's relationship as sisters, and with their friends, and the young men they met up with in Pinecraft- including Sherry's pen pal- though the initial meeting created some shock! I am hesitant to say more as I don't wish to be a "spoiler".
In "Summer Storms" by Amy Clipston,, the reader is introduced to Ariana, a young Amish woman preparing to be baptized, her fiance Jesse, and her brother Tobias, who is having a very difficult personal crisis. A late night buggy crash involving Tobias leads to a painful misunderstanding between Jessie and Ariana's (and Tobias') father. Ariana fears for the future she envisioned with Jesse, and Jesse must do some soul searching to work his way back in to his future father in law's good graces.
in "Lakeside Love" by Kathleen Fuller, we the readers meet Esther and Sarah, daughters of a close and loving Amish farming family outside of Sugarcreek, Ohio. Esther believes herself in love with Judah, who only has eyes for her sister Sarah. It is interesting to see how a month long visit by a college student changes things up for Esther, Sarah and Judah.
In "One Sweet Kiss", which is indeed a very sweet story, Kelly Irvin brings the reader to the town of Beeville, Texas, which is featured in her earlier series. Martha is a young lady caring for her siblings ever since her mother passed, though her stepmother is quite loving and encourages Martha to take time for herself and to find someone special. Jacob, the deacons son, adores Martha, but is having difficulty coming out of his Rumspringa. Martha is quickly losing patience with Jacob. However, they come together to help "match up" two special young adults in their community, in the belief that adults with special needs have every right to find happiness in a romantic relationship.
I strongly recommend "An Amish Summer" to other fellow readers of Amish novels. You won't be able to put it down!
