The Baby Bombshell is the second book in the Shadow Creek series. It is a standalone that does not end on a cliffhanger. This was my first book by Victoria James, and I thought it was a really great read. To be totally honest, it was a much more emotional story than I expected and I found myself tearing up for both Lily and Jack more than once while reading it. That is the sign of a good book, in my opinion. I will definitely be going back to read the first book in this series soon.

*spoilers in this paragraph* Lily and Jack were engaged to be married when tragedy struck. After losing his twin brother and nephew in an accident, Jack left his family and Lily behind without a backward glance. I'll be honest, when I decided to read this book, I struggled with the thought of that story line - I couldn't imagine how I could ever respect Jack when he'd done something so cowardly. It turns out that even though his decision to leave and stay gone was a pretty awful one, what he did in the time that he was gone made it a little more forgivable. I loved the fact that he stayed faithful to Lily while he was away. So many times in romance novels when men leave to 'find themselves' they do so by sleeping their way through dozens of women, but Jack didn't do that. The fact that he stayed loyal to her, that he took care of her from afar, and wrote daily letters to her softened my heart and made me forgive him.

The wolves felt so random when they were first mentioned, but the way that they came into play at the end was perfect.

I would recommend this book to anyone who likes a quick and easy read that will make you cry a little. I look forward to the next book in the series, and to going backward to read the first book in the series.

I requested and was generously granted a copy of this book via NetGalley. I was under no obligation to write this review, I did so because I enjoyed the book.

Have you ever been so upset, angry or hurt by someone where you think "I hope something bad happens to me when they're not here and then they find out about it but it's too late? Because surely by then they'll really be sorry for doing what they did"? Well, The Baby Bombshell by Victoria James is this exact concept played out in a second chance love story that made me cry, giggle, want to strangle Jack, wrap the family in a hug and make Jack suffer a little longer, but not really because it turns out he's the perfect man for Lily and you want them to finally get their Happily Ever After. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC in exchange for a honest review.

Loved this book! This is a tale of love lost.....Lily lost the love of her life, Jack, when he left after a family tragedy. Lily couldn't reach him and had no idea where he was, which forced her to handle everything alone, including the miscarriage of their baby. Then, five years later, he walks back into her life and wants to pick back up again - insisting that he still loves her and has been faithful to her.

This one tugged at my heartstrings, even making me cry near the end - a true tearjerker. It's a very emotional story that made me feel as though I was part of it and invested in the outcome. Kudos to the author for creating such a heartfelt book that reached out and touched me.

Romance fans will love this book. There is a lot of story packed into its pages and it should not be missed. Put this one at the top of your TBR. Additional note, while this is part of a series, it is a stand alone novel. I haven't read book one and don't think it detracted from the story, however, I enjoyed this one so much that I've added the first book to my TBR.

I always enjoy surprise baby plots. Add in a second-chance romance and we have a winner. In this story, Jack Bailey has returned to his family after a terrible tragedy led him to leave his family and fiance, Lily, and go away. He still loves her and has vowed to do what he can to win her back.

Luckily for him, she succumbs his first night back and the result is a baby. Lily has been terribly hurt that the man she loved and had agreed to marry left without a word to her for five years and now wants to rekindle their romance.

It is a good set-up and I felt for these characters. However, it all gets resolved very quickly. It’s as if the author set up the situation and then decided to then declared it all resolved. I would have liked a bit more.

I was given a free ARC of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I love stories like this- rekindling old loves and oops a surprise baby. I hate I hadn't read book 1 of this series because I feel it would have been a tear jerker- this one was. Jack was pitiful in his heartbreak over losing his twin and nephew. To see that face everyday in the mirror would have to be tough. Although I sympathized with him, the way he left and the heartbreak he left Lily with was terrible. Lily has had a tough go of things during the 5 years Jack has been gone and she cannot let him back in her life. She cannot risk him running away and leaving her again.

These two go through a gamut of emotions to heal from love and loss and finding it all again.

Great story.
