I enjoyed book, the running dialogue in Janie's head was funny. I liked how they didn't just jump in to sex, but got to know each other first, true it was fairly quick, but still and they were on vacation, so they both figured they did not have much time. Loved Blaine, it was sweet how he took care of his brother, but it was time to cut the strings. Glad that they got there HEA, only thing I wished was that her ex-boyfriend, would have gotten his due.
I enjoyed this fun, flirty, sexy read! It's very well written, very descriptive making me feel like I was in Thailand with these two. The characters are well developed and the humor throughout the story will keep you chuckling.
Janie Milan knows that with the upcoming wedding of her ex taking over the town she has to get away! What better time to take that dream trip to Thailand and what better way to forget her problems than with the Scottish hottie staying at the resort.j Blaine Galloway may be hiding out from the press but that doesn't mean he can't have a little fun with the American who has no idea who he really is! Or will his bit of fun be his downfall??
Definitely a recommended read.
Janie Milan’s ex- is about to get married, and the entire town is invited. What can she do but take off before the event? She leaves town and goes on vacation in Thailand.
Blaine Galloway is a Scottish heartthrob who is taking a break from a fake engagement he found himself in in order to protect his brother. He heads to Thailand for a quick escape, where he runs into (literally-pina colada included) Janie. Because he’s avoiding the press, he gives Janie a fake identity.
Their romance ensues, and it was fun watching them fall for each other (no insta-love). And I loved that Thailand was such a big part of the setting.
I enjoyed Janie’s unusual quirks: she’s a mechanic, and she loves snakes. This sets her apart from the usual romance novel main character. Blaine is a sweet and sexy hero. I do wish he’d used a few more Scottish phrases that would’ve made him “obviously” Scottish, but the bits we got were satisfying.
The romance was fun. There were plenty of laugh-out-loud moments in this rom-com. It’s a great beach read, or a great book to pick up if you’re looking for a quick escape on a Sunday afternoon.
I look forward to seeing what this author writes next.
Thank you Entangled & NetGalley for giving me this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Another miss for me on the reading front. There was too many things that I found odd to enjoy this book. Like how neither Blaine nor Janie didnt know this was a couple's resort BEFORE they got to the resort. Or how 2 people end up in Thailand for vacation. Like too many coincidences for me.
It didnt click for me. I thought it was a cute premise, but didnt work for me.
First time I've read anything by this author an love the book, story and characters she writes about. Will be trying her books in the future. It's about a blogger called Janie who goes to Thailand on her dream holiday and while she's there bumps into a hot alpha Scotsman called Blanie. He's there hiding away from the press and who he really is when he falls for Janie but wonders if it's to good to be true. Before long they are getting chased by the press and his life is going to hell in the papers. While they are getting chased there feels for each other grow. If you like hot men especially the scots then this book is for you. Would recommend this book an the author to be given a go as you won't be disappointed by either.
If you can buy the premise of a sexy Scottish TV star and girl from a small Texas rural community meeting up at a couples resort in Thailand and falling for each other over a few days, then this is a fun and light book.
Hunky Blaine Galloway is hiding from the paparazzi in Thailand where he meets Janie Milan from Texas. She’s fled her small town for 10 days for the trip of a lifetime while her ex-boyfriend marries her best friend. Blaine and Janie meet cute, he gives her a false name because he’s suspicious of everyone, and they proceed to have a lot of fun together touring beautiful spots in Thailand. They fall for each other and, predictably, the media find them. They have the misunderstandings that the reader knew were coming from the very beginning with him suspecting her motives for being with him and her getting hurt.
Janie is a little too good to be true. Somehow in her small Texas town that she says has nothing but beet farms, she has a job at a small petting zoo where she handles snakes. Really? There’s enough demand in this tiny town that is miles from anywhere for such a place? I found that unlikely, but I could go with it. I also found it irritating how many times Janie thought about her ovaries exploding while she was around Blaine. After a while a different metaphor would have been nice. What made her fun were her Texasisms when she was talking with him. Surely, someone who could come up with the funniest metaphors could come up with something else.
There were some time lapses in the plot and Blaine, for someone who hadn’t planned at all to be touring around Thailand is suddenly able to arrange the best touring experiences for himself and Janie, all while she’s looking out the window of the car or something else right in front of her. And then his agent, from London, is able to whisk them away to a very private resort. Why didn’t he send Blaine there in the first place if the goal was to hide
Those small quibbles aside, the book was cute and light. The reader will be pulling for this unlikely couple to make a true go of their romance.
I was given a free ARC of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
One part spicy, one part sweet and a whole lot of fun! "Her Scottish Mistake" takes romantic comedy up a notch by adding a distinct touch of humor and involves characters who I found myself constantly cheering on.
This is the story of Blaine and Janie, from opposite sides of the world, and who ended up in the same singles resort in Thailand. As you can predict, this is where the fun ensues. In the beginning, Janie does not know that Blaine is a well-known personality in his home country, but once this is discovered, the true adventures begin. I don't want to spoil it by telling you more, but I was surprised when she found out so early in the book. The fact that I was still completely engaged in the story by the twists and turns after Janie finds out attests to the great writing by the author. It might not win a Pulitzer Prize but the fact I couldn't put it down means something...plus, I can't recall the last time I read a book in one sitting!
"Her Scottish Mistake" doesn’t follow the typical ‘problem-solution’ plot, which made me enjoy it even more. Throughout the story, there were several times where I thought one thing would happen and I was caught off guard by the next development. And Janie is truly delightful with her southern charm and accent. I fell in love with her from the start.
I highly recommend this book for anyone looking for a story that will make you laugh. I couldn’t wait to see what happened and ended up reading the whole thing!
Hounded by the press, Blaine secrets away to a beautiful resort in Thailand waiting for matters to blow over. Pool-side, Janie crashes into him, dousing him with her Pina Colada, as she also runs from some real-life unpleasantness. Realizing Janie is unaware of his true identity, Blaine becomes “Bevan” and finds how wonderful it really is to just relax, be yourself, liked for who you truly are and not just the celebrity persona one has. The truth though always finds its way to the surface though and in the meantime as we wait for that shoe to fall, we are taken on a fast and fun ride with plenty of laugh-out-loud moments and some wicked sexy times that will keep you entertained. There were a couple times where I found the comedic moments were over-the-top, distracting and just didn’t fit the mood, like say a sex scene lol. Overall, this was a nice read and I totally enjoyed it. I look forward to reading more from Ms. de Winton.
Please note that an ARC was generously provided in exchange for an honest review of which this is both honest and completely voluntary.
when janie milan spills her fruity cocktail all over a super hot guy on her once-in-a-lifetime trip to thailand, she pretty much only expects utter mortification. instead, in her scottish mistake, she gets more than she bargained for. the scotsman who introduces himself as bevan macgregor is actually up-and-coming actor blaine galloway.
blaine is currently hiding out from a fake, tabloid-friendly relationship that he's stuck in because he needs to bail his irresponsible younger brother out of yet another jam. he's supposed to be laying low and staying faithful to the fake fiancée, but since his encounter with janie this proves difficult.
at first he's taken with janie because she has no idea who he is. later, when she's figured it out and he's convinced her to forgive him for lying it's harder to say why he can't stay away. when he's with her, he doesn't feel oppressed by responsibilities, he's not stressing about his career and making the wrong move, and best of all, he doesn't have to pretend to be someone he's not. he can be regular old blaine galloway who thinks the reptile wrangler from texas is crazy cute and sexy.
and when they kiss and things get a little wild, it's hard to see how being with janie is a mistake. except somehow the paparazzi keep finding them. and when everything blows up, it's not just blaine's career that's at stake. it's his brother's life. and janie ends up as collateral damage.
fixing it will take some doing on blaine's part, but he is up to the challenge. the only niggling concern i had after reading this is that i'm still not sure who or what janie means when she refers to miss muffin. it might be her vagina? or an anastasia steele-like inner goddess? every time it came up i wondered if i had missed some explanation, but i couldn't bring myself to hunt for it. especially since it just served to pull me out of the moment and got me thinking about little miss muffet. curds and whey are not conducive to sexy.
do women regularly name their vaginas? or inner goddesses? i didn't think so, but maybe it is a thing.
Janie's boyfriend cheated on her with her best friend and now is getting married. To avoid the marriage celebrations, she decides to go on her dream holiday to Thailand.
Scottish actor Blaine Galloway is hiding from the press after cutting a deal to save his brother. They are two single people living in a couples resort, and decide to make best of the situation.
The way Janie and Blaine met raised my expectations a little too high, and I'm sorry to say it didn't really leave up to them. There were some funny scenes that had me chuckling. I found some parts a little slow moving and some really fast paced. Since I enjoyed some parts of this book, and some not so much I am giving it 3.5 stars.
I enjoyed the fluff with added hotness of this book. There were just a few things that made it hard for me to connect and really get into it. I loved Janie and Blaine together, but not so much separately. I thought Blaine's character was really under-developed. We know he had a crappy childhood, but it seems irrelevant to who he is today. There didn't seem to be any direct correlation, other than the fact that he made a pact with his brother. Even when he has his lightbulb moment about his career, it's sort of anticlimactic. Janie's character is much more developed, and you can see how the events in her life have made her who she is. This book also contained pet peeves of mine: first, when a character talks and thinks too much in local colloquialisms. Yes, I get that Janie is from Texas, but sometimes the author laid it on pretty thick. Second, I HATE how small-town always seems to equal backass, unenlightened, naive, never-left-their town, hicks. I'm not entirely talking about Janie, but also her town. In this day and age, with internet, who REALLY is that inexperienced?
Aspiring blogger Janie Milan is finally on her dream trip to Thailand. But when an unfortunate piña colada incident lands her in the path of a hot Scotsman, Janie finds herself dying to find out what's under his kilt. Only the frustratingly sexy man isn't who he's pretending to be…
After cutting a deal to keep his brother safe, Scottish heartthrob Blaine Galloway is hiding from the press. But his secret identity starts to slip the second he meets small-town blogger, Janie. Now the press is hot on their heels and Blaine’s life is tumbling into a tabloid-sponsored hell. Coincidence? He’s not so sure.
Janie is on the trip of her life in Thailand. She needed to get away from her small town in Texas where her cheating ex was getting married to her ex-best friend. Soon after she arrives she accidentally spills her pina colada onto a man who happens to be incredibly good looking. She helps him clean up and they go their separate ways. When they meet each other at breakfast the other day and find out at the same time that they’ve each been booked into a couples resort they take advantage and book a day trip together. They get closer as they spend the days together and start to fall in love.
Blaine Calloway is a Scottish actor who needed to get away from his life and the press. He’s taken a trip to Thailand because he figures it’s as far from the UK as he can get. He ends up having a great time with Janie as he loves how down to earth she is. She treats him like a real person, not an actor, even after he comes clean about who he is.
Unfortunately the press get wind of his getaway and come after him. Blaine blames Janie and the shit hits the fan. Can these two people be together when they feel they can’t trust each other?
This was an interesting little romance. The idea of small town meeting foreign actor was a cute one and seemed to work at times during the book. Unfortunately I didn’t feel like the H/h were suited to each other and had a hard time reading about them falling in love. It wasn’t so much that they were different but that the way they were written I couldn’t feel it. Even when they were fighting with each other I didn’t feel the emotion between them and that was my biggest issue with the book. If you can’t feel the love between characters how can you truly love their romance? You can’t.
Despite the lack of emotion I felt I thought that the Thai scenery was written really well. I almost felt like I was there and I loved that. It seemed like Blaine and Janie were going to wonderfully romantic destinations that were incredibly described.
The story is about not only two people falling in love but finding out where they belong in the lives they live. Blaine needed to find out what he was doing with his acting career and Janie needed to find her place in her little town of Little Acre as it seemed as if she’d be stuck there the rest of her life. She loved her family but she wanted to do more. I thought this part of the book was well done as well and I liked seeing Janie with her little family that was a bit dysfunctional.
Overall it was a decent read but again, didn’t feel the love/romance at all.

Really enjoyed certain aspects of this book. The beginning really brought the reader into the story and then once you were hooked you were just waiting for the bomb to drop about who he really is. The trip in Thailand was so well written I just want to hop on a plane and go on vacation there. Now we get to the end or final 3 chapters and it just felt disjointed from the rest of the book. The timeline of events seem off his point of view was weeks going by and hers was a day or two after he left. Then he just shows up at some house in Little Acre, TX at least with his money or resources he would know where to find her. Then he gets some press at town center to talk about him coming to America for a movie role. What? One thing I really had to look past was she was a snake handler, I am all for different careers for the leads but this was just awful. Maybe it could have been classed up a little and felt less like a freak side show job at the circus.
I received an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review.
Wow, that was fun! I really enjoyed this fun and sexy read.
Janie is on vacation in Thailand to get away from exes, boyfriend and best friend, and their wedding day. She's mortified when she spills her Pina Colada on Blaine and just wants to help him clean up when she invites him to her room near the pool. Blaine is a Scottish TV heartthrob hiding away from from the paparazzi so he gives Janie a fake name and is hesitant to take her up on her offer to clean his shirt and shorts. But Janie is sincere and has no idea who he is so Blaine is thrilled to meet someone so genuine who for once isn't looking to exploit him. There are lots of laugh out loud moments and a great building romance. Of course there are some misunderstandings but not too much angst. Their adventures and descriptions of Thailand really added to the story too.
This was my first Michelle De Winton book and I'll definitely check out her other books.
This was a fun frivolous read that I really enjoyed. The characters were likable and the story well written. I will definitely read this author again.
What to say about this book? Well, it had some good things going for it. Famous Scottish H, Tropical location, Resort, Vacation. Those are the selling points, but some things I didn't like? Naming your vagina Miss Muffin lol. It's funny but in some of the context was down right silly, and during sex scenes or build up to sex scenes was distracting.
It's supposed to be a comedy, and some things I did find chuckle inducing but I wasn't a barrel of laughs either. This book took entirely too long for me to have enjoyed myself. My main issue was with Blaine being famous and not mentioning it to Janie. Completely understandable but after spending time with her he should have told her sooner. The other issue I took with was that Janie was thinking about using Blaine as her meal ticket for her blog, which doesn't really make sense if she was writing about snakes. Yea, she's a part time snake handler for a petting zoo when she's home. I just didn't like how the book wasn't cohesive. There were several points where I was like how the hell did we get here. In one I particularly remember, in the previous chapter we had Blaine's POV which a week has passed and he's home in Scotland, in the next chapter we get Janie still in Thailand, and then the chapter after that she's suddenly home. It didn't make sense. Not only that but the way that Janie explained her hometown made it seem...worse than it was and that her family was overbearing. When we do finally get to meet her brothers and father that appears to be far from the case.
I just didn't really completely enjoy this book. I wanted to DNF it several times. It just was slow and the romance was just ok.
I want to thank the publisher, author and NetGalley for providing me with this book free for an open honest review. All opinions in this review are mine and mine alone
This is a fun romance that I thoroughly enjoyed. In it, Janie is on the vacation of a lifetime in Thailand where she meets an attractive man who quickly rushes to her rescue. But while she is honest about herself, Blaine isn't even honest about his name.
I loved the way their romance developed and loved even more the majesty of Thailand that the author brought to life. She painted a picture with her words that felt so real that it was as though I was seeing it through her eyes.
Reading about Blaine and Janie's romance as it developed was a delight that made me smile. Fans of the genre will love this book and it should be at the top of their TBR. I'm adding the author to my must read authors' list.
