Interesting and useful book with cute illustrations, a must read for every woman who wants to find the perfect bra. This is also perfect as a gift!
I received this book from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review!

The title of the book alone peaked my interest and as a woman with rather large mammary glands I am always on the lookout for any assistance I can get to wrangle them in. I swear I can remember being 12 and super jealous of my friends who had already started developing. Let me tell you, that changed pretty rapidly over the course of that year lol. I have spent so much money and time on trying to find the right bra. I was a solid 38C all through college and then as soon as I got pregnant with my child those days of cute bras from Vickie's sailed away forever. I have been in double digits since and no matter what I do it seems like no bra ever fits like it should. You know what I mean. There is always the one that cuts off circulation to your rib cage but was supposed to be a minimizing one. Let's not forget the one that turns your breasts into mini torpedoes. Oh, and my personal favorite, is the one that has too much padding and is cut so low in the front that you end up with 4 boobs instead of two perky ones. Seriously, I can probably count on 1 hand how many proper fitting bras I have owned as an adult. Sad, right? I bet I am not the only one.

This is the 2nd edition of a book originally published in 2009. If the author's name seems familiar to you then you have probably seen her on the Dr. Oz show. She is also a fashion expert. I recommend all women read this book. I learned so much from Ms. Luciani. Who knew I have been putting my bra on wrong almost everyday?! There are some pretty serious facts and stats in the book as well. She doesn't stop with bras either, she covers shape wear (ie: the dreaded Spanx) and swimwear. I was able to even share some tips with my girls. The writing in the book is engaging and entertaining. It's like having a brunch with your besties and discussing just how awful bra shopping can be. My favorite take away is the fact that spending a fair amount of money on a bra that fits perfectly should be as natural as spending good money on a reliable and decent vehicle not just buying the first cheap car I find. This is for real a life altering ride for women.

I think the question here is this: how much do we really need a whole book on the subject? I, like so many others, really hate bra shopping and never seem to get the bra that really fits or looks the way I want. And so with this book, I wanted to know how to measure and how to ensure that even when I pick the right size, the bra fits comfortably and doesn't have 'peek' or 'back ride up' or so many other issues. With the bra book, the answer really appears to be simple: go get measured at a reputable lingerie store. Which, admittedly was a bit disappointing.

With the Bra Book, author Luciani covers several subjects to pad out the publication: history of bras, the different types, bras and fashion, how the bra relates to your body type, different breast sizes, how to fix bra issues, shapeware and spanx, swimwear support, different breast situations such as mastectomies, shopping tips, care tips, and even how men can buy bras for gifts. I have to admit, it all didn't amount to much and I read the entire book in about 15 minutes. It's perky, friendly, hip, and has plenty of quotes from movie stars/famous people to support what the author is saying.

And therein was the problem I found with the book - it's all glitzy glamour without enough 'meat' on the bone. There are a LOT of mentions of being on Oprah or being supported by Dr. Oz, etc. etc. There are a lot of celebrity quotes and even pictures of them. It felt facile - as if the author's audience needs perky blandishments and or random celebrity quotes to be readable. I felt my IQ dropping and not really coming away with much in understanding how to fit my bra better.

I guess what's important is that there are a couple of short paragraphs on how to measure - but then we're told go to the pros and try on every bra anyway because different manufacturers build bras differently. The rest is fluff about how bras are made, how cups are made, and random discussions about breasts - all aiming to ensure you feel good about your unique figure. WHich isn't to say there aren't useful tips - just not perhaps a whole book worth. Reviewed from an advance reader copy provided by the publisher.

Overall this was an enjoyable read. I was entertained and enlightened in the history of the bra section.
Some fun facts there! The illustrations were well done and helpful. I found it useful and took my notes to the bra fitting at a dept store and got two great bras. I totally have been wearing the wrong one! But, in my defense, I lost 33 lbs this year and I did not know what was a good fit anymore. I bought two at the fitting and am proud of my new, uh hum, look.

Very good resource to have and I am thankful to Netgalley for providing me a digital copy to read. I do recommend it. I will be referring to it some more in the future...I am sure.

The Bra Book is one of the most about bra, sports bras, shapewear and swimsuit wearing informational book I ever read. I have been wearing my bra all wrong and wearing the wrong colors of bras with my clothes. I agree with all of Jene’s advice. After putting on my bra just as she showed in step by step pictures, I felt and looked so much better. Highly recommend reading this book.

Overall a colorful, enjoyable, quick read. I enjoyed the history of the bra section, that was were I learned the most, having learned most of these lessons the hard way. The illustrations were well done and the book covered a lot of bra and breast related myths and misconceptions but there is still a lot to learn about these mysterious body parts!
