"Sigh" what a good book. My favorite, cowboys.
I absolutely love this series by Kate Pearce. I love cowboy story' s and this family is awesome. There was a mystery surrounding the mother and that comes to a head. The ending will have you wanting the next installment in this series right away.
This series is one that should be on your must read list. The books are written so beautifully. I received a complimentary copy of this book from Net galley and Kensington Books.

This book had a nice message of overcoming things from the past while keeping yourself open to hopes of the future. I liked Ry and his interactions with his family, it all seemed so natural and easy. Avery’s character seemed a little forced, but that can be explained by all she was having to overcome. At times Ry seemed like a very patient man, and I’m glad he was. It’s a gentle love story with enough heat to make me smile. I liked it.

Awesome contemporary western romance which is part of the Morgan Family saga. Ry and his identical twin TW have been having problems getting along while working the rodeo circuit. Ry decides to go home to find Avery broken and afraid. Avery works at the hotel her parents manage but since her accident is afraid of living. Ms. Pearce did an excellent job using flashbacks, dreams and family love to try to reunite a family broken due to postpartum depression. I received a complementary copy of this book via Netgalley and chose to write a review. I look forward to reading future books by this author.
I have really been loving these Morgan brothers and Ry is no exception. Avery and Ry are so sweet together and they are each good for the other. Avery is trying to break away from her overly protective family while Ry is trying to rebuild ties with his family. They also have a bit of history to get past but they never give up on each other and in the end they find their safe place to land in each other.
This is a very well done series and book and getting to know the Morgan has been so much fun. Can't wait for HW's story. I highly recommend this one.
I jumped right in the middle of the series with a new author for me, but that didn't slow me down a bit. It was easy to figure out what was going on and what had happened in the past. And I liked the complex, dysfunctional family of the brothers, their girlfriends, their father, and their grandmother. It was an interesting mix of people, who clearly cared for each other and were trying to forgive the past to make a better future.
The only one that I found hard to like, and I believe that was done on purpose, was Ry's twin HW. His arrogance and selfish actions were hard to tolerate at times, yet the more insight I got to him, got to know him, his actions started to make sense, in an odd way, at least there was a reason behind them.
Ry was truly a good guy. He had been the peacemaker all his life, looking after his twin. He had a rough going as a child with their mentally ill mother. Coming home to work at the ranch brought all those memories back about the torture he suffered at the hands of his mother, resulting in nightmares and flares of temper. Ry was the good guy, easy to understand and like and cheer for. Even though HW was supposed to be the charming twin, for me Ry was the one with alluring personality and charisma to win over my heart.
His attraction to Avery was passion filled yet sweet and adorable. He obviously not only desired her, he liked her, trusted her, and leaned on her when in need of support.
At the beginning of the story, I admired Avery, her bravery, her spunk, her determination to make it after the accident. But - and here is where my points for the story started to drop - she wasn't a very pleasant person. At first, she was negative, turning everything to be a conflict instead of a compliment. And then there was the pull and push, the hot and cold, she was all in and all out, and even though she did and said something out of order she made Ry grovel and apology when he didn't do anything wrong! And this just went on and on again and again, until I started to wonder if Ry would be better off with someone who wasn't so difficult to be around with.
The story's focus is on the life in the small town, the upcoming wedding, and the disturbance HW created for the family, and mostly the subplot running through the series with the mother of the family who had been assumed dead for a long time. The developing romance between Avery and Ry is well immersed into the story and the twists in the plot. I found it hard to trust that the turbulence Avery created to the developing romance wouldn't happen again, but they did find a moment's peace towards the end, yet the family drama ends in a cliffhanger.
This was a good story with complex characters, it just had a little too much angst and drama to my liking. I understand that Avery had gone a severe trauma with her accident, but with the picture the story gave of her, I expected her to be a more stable person with fewer insecurities and self-doubts. Those added to the turmoil in Ry's family, there was just too much unnecessary drama and misgivings in the tale.
~ Three Spoons with a teaspoon on the side
The next great story continues with the Morgan brothers this time with the story of Ry and his heated relationship with Avery Hayes. Another great one to read.
There’s really quite a bit that progresses with the mystery of the Morgan boys’ mom in this story. And the more we learn the more I hate her. I don’t say that lightly either. It is made very clear that their mom was suffering from depression and I know that’s a very real thing. I’ve had my own issues with this and can’t even begin to understand how it feels for someone who has a severe case. But as a fan and supporter of the Morgan boys, there are things that come to light the just upset me so much.
Of course, I feel that way because Kate Pearce does such a phenomenal job of making me care about the characters in these stories. Whereas Chase and Blue took some getting to know before I fell for them, it was pretty clear Ry is a great guy from the beginning. That’s why when he did get jerky about anything it made me feel more protective of him instead of mad at him. He was dealing with a lot of stuff!
Avery is such a tough woman and she doesn’t even know it. I can totally understand her feeling when it comes to the hovering/smothering she gets from her parents. I loved seeing her learn to speak up for herself again as she gained confidence with her new relationship and new job. She went through a very traumatic experience and needed to find her way back to herself…and figure out who she was NOW, not the same self she was THEN. As much as I really dislike her sister, Marley, I have to admit she was part of the catalyst for Avery finding her way. And it’s mentioned more than once by Avery and her brother Tucker that Marley isn’t acting herself and something must have happened to her. Since we, as readers, haven’t met Marley until now I have no basis on which to like her. I’m sure in future books I’ll fall in love with her as much as I have with the author’s other characters.
As one of four kids, I know there is tons of baggage that comes with having siblings. No matter how hard parents try, kids are treated differently. I cannot imagine how hard that is when you’re also a twin that comes from such a broken home as Ry’s. The relationship between Ry and his twin HW was heart-rending.
Just as in the previous books, although the story doesn’t end in a cliffhanger it does end with the reader wanting more. It ends with another piece of the puzzle of the Morgan family being put into place.

This third book in the Morgan Ranch series blew me away! It really had it all. It had drama, action, family, dysfunction, humor, passion, and of course, love. What more could you really ask for in a romance? In this installment, one more of the prodigal sons return as Ry leaves his twin behind to start a new life on the ranch, including his teenage crush. He always had a thing for Avery, and now that he's back, all bets are off. He's determined to make her his. Both of them have issues to work out from the past, but quickly find that the best medicine is time together. I have fallen so in love with all of the characters in this series. Real, sincere, and honest in their feelings, these characters completely draw you into the story and make you believe in the idyllic and enchanting Morgan Ranch and surrounding township. As Ry’s brother, HW, points out, there really is something in the water there. I very highly recommend this book and the entire series to anyone looking for an impassioned and compelling read. I anxiously await the next installment in this series.
“I realized the other day that every woman I’ve met since I left home hasn’t stood a chance because they weren’t you.”
Well, I didn't know what I was missing, until I started reading The Last Good Cowboy. The third book in the Morgan Ranch series, it's the first one I've picked up. And not the last.
Perhaps I would have enjoyed and appreciated it more had I started at book one—there being themes that are clearly laid out in earlier books and carried over here—but that's not to say this one can't be enjoyed by someone new to the series. It's smartly written, engaging and sexy. It took me a little time to settle into The Last Good Cowboy, to get familiar with the characters and the mysteries and the relationships, but once I did, I did not want to stop reading.
Ry and Avery are such a likable couple. They both have trouble in their past and need something or someone to push them, and as such, their relationship—their love—is an easy one. They come together, they push and pull, and it feels right. Even when things go awry, it still feels right. It's sweet, gentle and mutual; a love that felt equal on both sides, between a woman who is brave (if a little stubborn) and a cowboy who was a good as the title suggests (even when he's fighting off anger).
I'm intrigued about where this series is going and where it's been. I'm keen to learn more about these four brothers, and the events that took them away from—and brought them back to—their family home. So, in the months between now and when Ry's twin, HW gets his HEA, I plan to find the time to get to know Chase and January, and BB and Jenna… because now I know what I was missing, I want to make sure I don’t miss anymore.
“You are totally, one hundred percent into me.”
“You Morgan boys are so conceited.”
“That’s because we’re pretty awesome.”
“And so modest.”
~ FOUR STARS ~
This is my first book in this series, and though this could be read as a standalone I feel that I am going to have to read the previous ones to have more insight. Ry and his twin were always close, but he decides it is time to move on, HW has changed, and Ry decides he does not want that life anymore in rodeo circuit. Going back to the ranch is still painful for him, but there is a lot going on. He is also going to give it a try with Avery whom he always had a crush on. Avery had a bad accident, and lot of surgeries, so she did have some rough times. They do help each other deal with what they are going thru. It does end with a cliffhanger, so if you are interested in this book, keep that in mind.
Ray Morgan is back at the family ranch and reconnects with Avery, the girl he once crushed on.
Ry is dealing with painful memories connected to his mom that have surfaced even stronger since he learnt about her search. Avery is still trying to come to terms with her accident. The way they both support each other was very heart warming to read.
The last good cowboy was an easygoing and fun read with a few twists and turns to keep things interesting.
Looking forward to HW's story and possibly s Rachel's too.

Morgan Ranch #3
Ry is ready for a change. He has been with HW, his identical twin, from the cradle to the moment the book begins and while HW still has his sights set on the rodeo national championships Ry is ready to head home to Morgan Ranch. So that is just what he does. He settles into ranch life and work like a duck to water and realizes that he is finally doing what he should be doing when he starts having flashbacks and nightmares.
One of the first people Ry meets when he gets home is Avery, the girl he had a crush on through most of school. She sustained severe injuries while competing in a rodeo event and though still not 100%, and probably never will be, feels a bit hemmed in due to overcautious parents that seem to swaddle her in protection. Avery’s job working in her parents’ hotel doesn’t give her a lot of time to spread her wings but with Ry in town her life, and his, is about to change.
With major alterations in the works for the ranch, a wedding to be planned a missing mother and sister being looked for, Ry’s nightmares, Avery’s equine phobia, sibling issues in the Morgan and Hayes families, and HW’s aspirations & advertising there is a whole lot going on in this delightful third installment of the Morgan Ranch series, a series I am eager to continue reading. I am impatient to find out how HW does in the finals, wonder what might happen on the ranch, am curious about a few other Morgantown citizens and am interested in finding out what happens next.
Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Books – Zebra for the ARC – This is my honest review.

The Last Good Cowboy by Kate Pearce is a great contemporary romance. Once again the setting is the Morgan Ranch in the Sierra Mountains. This is the third book in the series with great characters and a family story that scarred each of them in their own way. Finding each other and working on the ranch is what has slowly called them all home!
Ry comes home after years of trailing his twin on the rodeo circuit. Ry realizes that is not the life he wants, nor is he willing to do the work to get there. He wants the quiet ranch with the work that needs to be accomplished. When he came home, who did he see but Avery, the girl he really liked in high school. Avery has had hard times of her own and is not really glad to see Ry. She really liked him, but since her accident, her body has been broken and fixed so often that she is sure that as a cripple, Ry would not be interested. Avery is wrong and Ry suddenly realizes the other reason he came home, he wants a family.
Kate Pearce in The Last Good Cowboy has introduced us to two characters who can support each other and hold each other. That is what makes this book good. The characters development and disclosures tie you to them and you are hopeful for the success of the relationship. Meanwhile we get a front seat to the other brothers as they get closer to their own weddings and the ranch becomes more successful. The Last Cowboy is a great read.
This is the third book in this series by this author and can be read as a stand alone read. This is a second chance romance story. I loved the characters, you just fall in love with them as you read. This is a sweet western romance story with added humour and intrigue. I can't wait to read more from this author in the future.
Highly recommended
I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
This is the continuing story of the Morgan men... Ry is a twin and they use to be very difficult to tell apart. Avery is the girl who had the huge crush on Ry. Both of these characters were involved with rodeo and both had their downfalls.
Avery was injured to the point where she had to give up what she loved, barrel racing. She had to learn who to walk again. Ry wants to be with her, show her how wonderful she is.

Book #3: Morgan Ranch Series
Source: Netgalley and Purchase
My Rating: 5/5 stars
My Review:
Ry Morgan is done! He’s done looking after his rowdy twin, HW, he’s done traveling all over the country from rodeo to rodeo, and he’s done feeling guilty about being done. For the first time in a decade, Ry Morgan is going home and he intends to stay.
Going home isn’t quite as hard for Ry as it was for his older brothers, Chase and Blue. Ry’s problem has never been with his dad, but with his mother and since she’s nowhere to be found, settling in is easy to do. Within days, Ry realizes ranching is exactly what he needs to be doing with his life. Life on the ranch is simple, pure work, hard work, and Ry revels in the aching muscles he earns each day. To top it all off, Ry has also been able to connect with Avery Hayes, the girl who stole his heart in high school and has never been replaced.
Avery Hayes isn’t the girl Ry once knew. Just before college, she survived a tragic accident that left her body nearly destroyed and in need of multiple surgeries and years of physical therapy. Though Avery has put in the hard work, she’s left with both physical and mental scars that have kept her from truly moving forward with her life. Her job at her family’s hotel is satisfying, but she’s capable of so much more and it isn’t until she takes on the Morgan wedding that she truly begins to spread her wings. As a bonus, Avery has reconnected with Ry Morgan, a man who pushes her boundaries, makes her feel safe, challenges her, and cares deeply for her.
As the weeks go by, both Ry and Avery face challenges they never expected. Ry’s brothers are actively looking for his mother and younger sister which dredges up memories and emotions best left in the past. Additionally, for the first time in a decade Ry is separated from his twin brother which causes him more anxiety than he would like to admit. In so many ways, Avery eases his troubles and helps Ry more fully settle into life at home. For Avery, being at the ranch is both exhilarating and terrifying. She loves the work she’s doing and wants to take on more responsibility, but being near the horses is emotionally draining. At every turn, Ry encourages Avery and helps her overcome a deep-seated fear that has kept her paralyzed for years. As the two help one another, a deep and abiding love years in the making blossoms.
The Bottom Line: Holy hot cowboys, I am loving this series!!! The Morgan Ranch series gets better with each installment and Ry’s story is no exception. Of the Morgan boys, Ry’s story is by far the most tragic as events with his mother come to light and he deals with the very real possibility of seeing her again. His journey would be far, far harder were it not for Avery who stands by him through thick and thin. Avery and Ry together are about as perfect as it gets. Though they face a few bumps in the road, there isn’t any huge, relationship-ending drama with these two and I found that to be quite refreshing. As always, the characters from past reads make appearances which only serves to enhance the overall story, the dialogue is quick, the naughty bits are delicious and appropriate to the characters/story, and the book specific and series plots are evolving. If you haven’t started reading this series yet, get on it! Kate Pearce is killing it with the Morgan Ranch series and I am stoked to see what happens next.
I loved this book so much I purchased the rest of the series . What a lot of heartache Ry Morgan had from his past ,things he would like to forget but that kept showing up in his subconscious. What really happened the day his mother left that he can not really remember. I was glad that Avery Hayes came back into his life. These two really deserved a second chance.I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily chose to review it.
Ry Morgan has finally had enough and he is back at the Morgan ranch to stay. His identical twin does not take it well and that adds to the tension in the story. Avery Hayes provides the romantic tension. She had a bad accident 7 years ago and does not see herself as being complete. Ry on the other hand does and now that he is home he is acting on the attraction that he felt before he left years ago. I really liked Ry. He is one of the good guys and his action reflect that. There is still the mystery from when his mother disappeared when he was 5 years old and some old stuff comes out in the book. Between the tension between Ry and his twin, Avery's lack of confidence, and trying to find what happened to Ry's mother this a cannot put down book. There is still one Morgan man and a new character ready for romance. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.
I
This book is the third of the series, and though it’s a stand alone, I would recommend that you read the previous books. There is a storyline about the Morgans’ Mother disappearance that continues to develop. Plus, it gives you a chance to understand and “know” better BB and Chase, the heroes in the previous books.
All that said, I was a little concerned about this book . I don’t read stories about the twenty something generation, since frequently they are depicted a tad immature. I was pleased to see that Ms Pearce, had well developed individuals, who were intelligent, and had already experienced the good and the bad of life.
This story centers around Ry , one of the Morgan twins, who has returned to the family ranch after a disagreement with his brother. Ry has decided to leave the rodeo circuit, while his twin is hoping to make it to the Vegas finals.
Avery is the gal he always liked in high school. She has survived a terrible injury and doesn’t feel “whole”. These two quickly become a couple but have many hurdles to overcome.
It’s a sweet story of young love, as well as a story about families and the interaction between the relatives. Sometimes in their love, family can be overwhelming, and over protective. It’s a story about feelings of abandonment, unrealistic responsibilities given to children and about postpartum depression. Above all , it’s a story about hope and love.
For me , it was not as good as the previous stories and more of a 3.5 star. But, I respected the effort and talent of Ms Pearce, and will give it a 4 star.
I was gifted this book by Netgalley. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
Another great hit in the series. This one is Ry, one of the twins, and Avery's romance. Ry was the quiet one, and at times this story really broke my heart for the poor little boy. I know mental illness is hard, but when a 4 yr old is punished for no apparent reason because of it it made me sad. Looks like the sister may feature in her own story in the future, but for now I am looking forward to Ry's twin brother's story. Really like this series, and the writing is easy to get lost in. Highly recommend this book and this series and this author.
