You really need to read Jude's Law first as this story starts days after that book ends. The Law Series is a wonderful, fun Romantic-Suspense Lite read. Ashley is a great heroine and Quinton is a sexy, sophisticated hero with a wicked sense of humor.
Ashley is a take charge, take care of herself kind of gal. She works two jobs and is going to college to become a nurse. Quinton is silver spoon filthy rich and in control of everything around him. He has an office where Ashley works on the cleaning crew and they have bumped into each other on occasion. OK, they have liplocked on occasion too. They both feel the attraction, but Ashley is leery as to how rich he is. Ashley needs a date for May and Jude's wedding and asks Quinton. He really wants to get her in bed, and she has agreed to do the deed after the wedding reception.
The villain from Jude's Law, Elton, escaped capture in that book and is back. He now blames Ashley and has vowed nasty business for her. This brings out Quinton's protective side and that sends Ashley into full retreat, until Elton targets Quinton. She loves him and does not want anything to happen to him. He feels likewise, but almost blows it toward the end.
Quinton and Ashley were fun to watch dance around each other. Cute fluffy romance - as always I love Lori Foster.
Murphy's Law was a really good book. The characters couldn't be more opposite but I did love that about this book. Quinton the successful businessman has his sites set on Ashley who is far from rich and working multiple jobs to put support herself.
I love Quinton and his tenacity, he was protective and sooo sweet. He didn't falter and as I got to know more about him the more I loved him.
Ashley oh did I love her, she had no filter, no qualms about saying what was on her mind her character was soo refreshing.
The chemistry between these two flowed off the pages. There is some crazy suspense in this book and moments that will make you take a deep breath. A really good read that I would recommend if you are looking for an opposites attract with a push/pull between two characters.
First thing to note is that this is a reissue if a previously published book so be sure you don't already own it. If you don't I recommend you give it a try. This is the second book in the series and although you don't have to have read the first book to follow along, I do think you will enjoy it more if you have. Quinton and Ashley are so cute together and even though Ashley is trying her hardest to stay away, she just can't resist him. Their story is fun and flirty and you don't want to miss it.
This book was much better than "Jude's Law" and I thoroughly enjoyed Ashley & Quinton's story.
Quinton is wealthy, charming and apparently has a very sweet side. He's been trying to convince Ashley to go out with him for weeks, but she always turns him down. She doesn't think she's in his league and definitely doesn't want him to feel sorry for her.
Ashley is an independent, smart-mouth nursing student working two jobs to support her schooling and her dreams. She really dislikes taking any charity from people, especially after her childhood and her crappy parents who did nothing but accept handouts. Because of this, she's determined to make it on her own, even if it means she works way too much and sleeps way too little.
Eventually Ashley gives into Quinton's date requests and escorts her to May/Jude's wedding. From there they begin to have occasional hook-ups and struggle to find time for each other given their work schedules. I honestly didn't quite fully understand how Ashley and Quinton could fall in love so quickly when they really never learned much about one another or went out on dates they seem. Maybe all of that was just glossed over, omitted or assumed based on the short deeper dives we did get into their lives.
I really loved Quinton's character. He was handsome and smart, but he was also incredibly kind and caring towards to the less fortunate. His work with the kids was awesome and admirable and I loved how Ashley took to the kids so easily.
On top of their budding relationship, we also still have the story that wasn't resolved in the first book involving Elton. He really picks up his threats and becomes a much scarier person than he was in the first book. I thought this part of the book was well-written and definitely added suspense to the book. The ending did move pretty quickly though and seemed a little too convenient that everything would end the way it did. But it was still a good conclusion to the series nonetheless.
Murphy’s Law by Lori Foster
Law #2
Quinton Murphy has the hots for Ashley Miles. He is rich and she is not. She has a plan that will see her secure with dreams fulfilled if she continues to work more than one job while going to college. She does not have time for romance so does not have time for Quinton. Well…that begins to change BUT there is also a stalker with bad intentions that must be found and dealt with before a HEA can be found for the two of them.
This was a quick, easy, fun and somewhat predictable read. I did not read book one in the series, Jude’s Law, and have a feeling some of the comments would have made more sense and the supporting characters would have been familiar. That said, reading book one is not essential for this story to stand on its own.
Thank you to NetGalley and Kensingington Publishing Corporation’s Zebra Books for the ARC. This is my honest review.
3 Stars
I requested this book on Netgalley becaue I love Lori’s books. And I loved this too. But what my book Alzheimers prevented me from remembering … this book has been sitting on my shelf - ALREADY READ - for almost ten years! I just didn’t remember I’ve already read it! So, now I’ve read it again. And it was really cute again.
We have the sexy, rich business man and the cute, slightly weird girl juggling 2 jobs and school. And some insta-mega-attraction. But Ashley just can’t waste time on some guy at the moment. She’s too busy with trying to not live like her parents.
But of course Quinton and Ashley can’t stay away from each other.
And then we also have the murderous stalker chasing us!!!!
Lots of excitement for the reader and the hero & heroine until we can ride off into our forever ever after sunset! ☺

I really enjoyed this book. It’s soooo sexy – there are some huge sparks flying between those two, even before anyone’s getting naked!!!
And it’s cute and funny and moving and heartbreakingly adorable and of course suspensy too.
Great romantic suspense meets romantic comedy! Just what you would expect from Lori!
Oh, one thing – I would suggest you read Jude’s Law before reading this! May and Jude and Denny and Tim are in here a lot too and those two stories kinda belong together!!!
Ashley longs for stability, she wants the house, money in the bank, a good job, the whole works, and most of the time women want the man to go along with it, but not Ashley, she is determined to do it on her own. She is working two jobs, going to college, and has little time for much of anything else, and to be honest she kind of likes it that way, because it makes less room for distractions to seep into her world, and hinder her plan. But she didn't account for a man like Quinton to wander into her life, and now that he has, she is doing all she can to get rid of him, but the handsome hunk isn't letting her get away so easily... he wants a date, and is determined to get her to say yes!
The moment Quinton meets Ashley he is taken with her, there is something about her that draws him in and has him acting out of character...and it is driving him crazy, no woman has ever been able to knock him off of his game, nor made him lose his focus the way she has. He wants to be near her, date her, lure her into his bed, but she doesn't seem to be falling for any of it. He is use to the women falling all over themselves to land a date with him, but Ashley doesn't seem to be dazzled by his charms... which leaves him with no choice but to follow her everywhere she goes, and pester her into saying yes. But he soon learns that he isn't the only one following her...
Absolutely loved this book! Highly addictive story line, that had me burning right through the pages, I completely devoured it in one sitting! It had it all, a story line rich with heart, humor, mystery, and some sensational sexy times guaranteed to make you blush!! Highly recommend this one, Ms. Foster's quirky characters are sure to steal your heart!!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this title.
Unfortunately the book was not for me, no review was publicly posted on Amazon, B&N, Goodreads or Twitter etc, so no ratings were affected in relation to it.
Lori Foster never disappoints!!!. I loved this book. Quentin is the perfect book boyfriend and I enjoyed watching him wear Ashley down. ...stubborn, stubborn girl!! Nothing like two strong willed people butting heads to make the romance so much sweeter...hand hot!! Sexy, sweet and full of suspense courtesy of the bad guy, this is another one not to be missed.
This is the second book in this series by this author. This book has fantastic characters, which just come alive as you read. This is a sexy contemporary romance story. This author has a fab way of bringing you fun and sensual stories. I can't wait to read more from this author in the future.
Highly recommended.
I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book
MURPHY'S LAW...by Lori Foster was a favorite when I read it in 2006 and still keep me on my toes reading it this time. Quinton is almost to good for words but just human enough for me to love him... and Ashley is almost to independent ...but I admire her...Denny, May, Jude and even Tim (I grew to like him) all made a big impact in the story and lets not forget Elton...what a creep... I loved the book and highly recommend it.
This is a reboot on a book with the same title, a sequel to Jude's Law. While the issues May and Jude faced in their book spill over into Ashley and Quinton's story it was easy to follow. A crazy fool almost got Jude arrested for murder because his girl was interested in Jude and not him. Bad guy ended up stirring some trouble for Ashley because she basically put his butt in jail for being the murderer. He's stalking her but fortunately she's got Quinton and friends on her side. I found their almost instant hook up a little too easy but A and Q are extremely likable and total opposites that it just works. Quinton comes on a bit too strong, the alpha billionaire role, but Ashley's brash personality balances everything out. I never got to read to Jude's Law but that didn't keep me from understanding the danger and previous story line, everything was outlined and made easy to follow. I have written this review voluntarily after reading an advanced copy through Netgalley.
Ashley is a girl from the other side of the tracks working overtime to improve herself & her lot I life. Her parents were constantly on state aid from the lack of desire to work. Ashley has had enough of being made fun of. Her friend May is the only one who ever stood up for or behind her. She's working two jobs & going to school to be a nurse. She doesn't have time for any man, especially a rich one like Quentin Murphy & definitely not a psychopath like Elton.
Quentin has everything - money, house, great job. Everything except a woman to share it with. Ashley is so plain spoken he knows she isn't interested in his money but why is she holding him off? The chemistry is there. Hell, she kisses him senseless but then she backs off. What's going on?
I really enjoyed this book. Quentin & Ashley are opposites in every way. Ms. Foster does a really good job with her descriptions & prose to show the explosive chemistry. I LOVE Ashley's character - defensive, sarcastic, witty, loving & loyal. Denny is my favorite supporting character. He may not be Ashley's father by blood but it's apparent in his actions & feelings that he feels like her father. The interactions between Ashley & Quentin, Ashley & Denny & even Denny & Tim are intense! The reader can sense deeper meanings in them but nothing is revealed until the end. I did not read Jude's Law first & didn't feel like I was missing anything but now my curiosity has been engaged & I think I'll go read it next.
This book was only ok for me. Apparently it tied into the SBC books of Lori foster which I have read. But some of the phrasing and terminology of this one made it seem like it was from a bygone era and when I looked it up it said that it was published in 2006. I'm not sure why its on Netgalley. I loved the heroine and thought her sense of humor and approach to life was refreshing. But the whole danger element seemed unnecessary to me especially since I hadn't read the prior book and was unaware of the plot line that connected it together.
I'm so glad this book is being re-released with a new cover. Murphy's Law is a good book with hot chemistry and fun times. A really good book to sit down with a glass of wine. Lori Foster never disappoints!
Murphy’s Law is funny intense love story. Great story with a lot of humor, steamy scenes, suspense and full of emotions. Rely good written book with great personalities. Quinton and Ashley are both likable really great people. I loved that they admitted their mistakes although they were both stubborn they knew when to step aside and except the reality of situation. They dialogues are awesome full of humor, teasing but also about serious important thing. They both fall unexpectedly hard and fast for each other and passion that they have is sooo explosive. HOT. Really great read. Recommended for the one who like to laugh and love good suspense in a book.
I volunteered to review an ARC of this book for Netgelly
DNF @ 33%. I couldn't stand Ashley. I found her character completely rediculous. A 27 y/o virgin is like a unicorn. And for moving out at 17 and being on her own for 10 years she is way too naive. She's also rude and abrasive. He isn't any better. Oh no, your parents didn't let you have a pet! How horrible! They fought! Who could imagine such horror! Even with a silver spoon he still has to know bad things happen and bad parents abound. Ugh.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book! It was a fast, sexy, thrill ride of a read and cannot wait for her next book! Love the characters-- I don't want to give anything away or any spoilers, but I definitely recommend Murphy's Law! Enjoy!
Love when I can pick up a book by an author I've read before and not be disappointed. And even better when I'm not totally lost in the storyline because there was another book in the series! There were definitely twists and turns throughout the storyline. Didn't really need the "unplanned" event, personally it's somewhat overdone, but that's just a pet peeve of mine. Loved the dynamics between Ashley and Quinton. Her quirkiness is complemented by his serious, but definitely down to earth qualities.
