When mystery author Nathan Pike checks into South Cove Bed & Breakfast to write his latest novel, everyone is happy to see him, but when he is accused of murder, they may have a change of heart. Jill feels the need to prove Nathan’s innocence and find the killer.

This is the 8th book in the Tourist Trap Mystery series for Lynn Cahoon. It is a fast paced read with very well rounded characters and a compelling storyline. The location is attractive, and the author brings the town to life with her vivid detail.

The characters are all nicely developed with Aunt Jackie and Jill being the heart of the story. Jackie has a way of handling things and people that allow Jill the freedom to do what she wants with her life and her business, and still keep the store running smoothly. This allows Jill the time to work on her school work and investigate a murder. While looking into the murder of a fellow business owner, Jill also begins to develop a relationship with her neighbor, physic and police receptionist Esmeralda and is concerned about her recent behavior. In unraveling the murder and discovering the killer’s identity, Jill also comes to a decision regarding her relationship with Greg.

This is an enjoyable read, fast paced with lots of twists and turns to keep the reader guessing. It is written well and keeps the plot moving forward. This book and series is highly recommended and should appeal to anyone who likes romance with their mystery.

I really love the Tourist Trap Mysteries. I was happy to Esmerelda's psychic senses getting recognition. The storyline actually has two mysteries and as always I enjoy the process of Jill finding out the answers to both. I love the setting of South Cove and the neat shop of South Cove, Books and more, I also like the fact that with each new book, you continue to learn more about each individual business owner, makes you want to visit the the little seaside community and visit them for yourself.

The latest murder in South Cove seems to have been stolen from the pages of a visitor author. Jill Gardner the bookstore owner feels compelled to try to discover the murderer at the same time as she is dealing with a few personal issues - namely her boyfriend - the police chief, a wacky neighbor, and an ending romance for two of her employees.

The main mystery is a little light, but there was a secondary mystery surrounding a missing child that was very engrossing. I really enjoyed the story filled with more wacky characters and other previously minor characters that were brought front and center.

Jill Gardner lives in South Cove. This lovely coastal town is filled with charm and good people except for the person who murdered Walter Knicely. Jill is busy with her store and her college courses. Her relationship with Greg King is moving to the next level. But that doesn't stop her from investigating the crime. Can she help find who did it? I like Jill. She's a smart and caring woman who knows how to get people to confide in her. Greg is a South Cove police detective. He's a patient and loving man who is dedicated to his job and to Jill. They make a great couple. These characters are easy to care for. I felt as if I knew them as well as the rest of the town's people. This mystery is well written and has a multitude of suspects. Lynn Cahoon has written a suspenseful story with some unexpected twists that kept me guessing until the very end. The romance between Jill and Greg is romantic and adds a sweet touch to this cozy mystery. I'm enjoying The Tourist Trap Mysteries. I can't wait to see what happens next.
I received a copy of this book which I voluntarily read. My comments are my honest opinion.

Jill Gardner is balancing a lot of responsibilities (as per usual). She's got her bookstore, her classes, the boyfriend that is starting to get serious (is she really ready for this?), an employee leaving, and her regular obligations to her dog and to the town business council. Heaped on that is a mystery author who is in town for a signing and, added bonus, is driving Jill's police chief boyfriend up a wall. So, she's really not ready for the dead body that turns up at one of the local vineyards. Or the fact that her neighbor and local psychic, Esmeralda seems to be falling apart because of a missing boy.
Jill does figure it all out in a story that is fast, fun, and fluffy. Regular readers of the Tourist Trap Mystery series will quite enjoy it.

South Cove, California is the home of Jill
Gardner. Jill runs a Coffee and Book shop
with her aunt. They are hosting the popular
mystery writer, Nathan Pike for a book signing
event. He will be spending time in town to
write his next book plus spend time with
Detective Greg King to experience real police
work in action for his book writing.
The owner of a local Bed and Breakfast is
found murder. He was murdered exactly as
a character in the author's draft for his next
book.
Jill is kept busy studying for her exams,
interviewing people for the shop, keeping
an eye on her psychic neighbor, deciding
whether she and Greg should live together
plus investigating the murder to prove the
author's innocence.
Her psychic neighbor believe a missing
boy is alive and is trying to locate him after
everyone else gave up on finding him.
Emma, Jill's dog plays an active part in
helping solve one of the mysteries.
The story is fast paced with interesting,
colorful and well written characters. It has
plenty of suspense, humor and a touch of
romance.
This is book # 8 in the Tourist Trap Mystery
series. It can be read as a stand alone.
Good read!!

Jill Gardner runs the popular Coffee, Books, and More store in South Cove, California, but her real passion lies in solving mysteries, which is just as well really, since South Cove is disturbingly similar to Cabot Cove when it comes to the local murder rate. In Hospitality and Homicide, famed writer Nathan Pike has returned to South Cove to work on his latest novel. All the townspeople appear pleased to see him, but one person seems to have taken a love of Pike’s work too far, as the owner of a local B&B is found murdered in exactly the same manner as a killing described in the new book. Nathan Pike quickly becomes the prime suspect in the case, but Jill is not convinced that he is guilty and she determines to crack the case herself, much to the chagrin of her boyfriend, Detective Greg King.

Hospitality and Homicide features an intriguing murder mystery, although it does also focus rather heavily on the romance between Jill and Greg (as well as sundry romances between the supporting characters). Lynn Cahoon manages to implicate a number of likely suspects, both new arrivals to South Cove and more established characters, with plenty of clues and red-herrings being provided in order to keep readers guessing. There’s also an interesting subplot featuring a missing boy and Jill’s psychic neighbour Esmeralda, which helped to increase the book’s level of suspense. Luckily, both Jill and Greg are excellent and engaging detectives, and their respective investigations are highly entertaining.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars, I really liked it.

Book 8 in the series. You'll be fine if you start here, but do yourself a favor and go back and read them all!

I love this series, I really do. I love Jill's shop, the perfect combination of Coffee, Books and More. The characters are all well developed and it's like going to spend a weekend with some great old friends. Meanwhile, someone is dead, and the obvious suspect just doesn't feel right. Jill is a typical small business owner, with more than enough to do in any given day, yet she still manages to snoop, haha.

This was a good, fast read, that I didn't want to put down. My only complaint is that I now have a long wait 'til next year and another visit to South Cove!

This was my first Tourist Trap Mystery that I've read and, despite coming in at number 8 in the series, it mostly worked for me. I will admit that I felt like I was missing a few things at times - I couldn't work out whether Esmerelda's gift was meant to be believed for a lot of the book* and I didn't have all the information about Jill's relationship backstory to be able to get into the dilemmas in her relationship. But the setting is fun and the mystery worked. There were a few moments of clunky dialogue, but I forgave it because I liked the characters. I'll keep an eye out for more.

Many thanks to NetGalley and Kensington Books for allowing me to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
It is always fun to visit South Cove, California and see what Jill Gardner, owner of Coffee, Books and More is up to. She has a way of stumbling or walking into trouble, usually involving a murder, much to the frustration of her boyfriend and Police Chief, Greg King. There are changes afoot in the lives of Jill and Greg that involve taking the next step in their relationship, changes that Jill is not sure she is ready to make. Sasha is finishing up her third year of college and has been offered an internship that will take her to the city. This is a great opportunity that could lead into a full time job after her final year of college. However, this throws a monkey wrench in her relationship with Toby and leaves Jill in need of finding a replacement for her in the shop. South Cove is growing with a new business and a produce stand. And of course there is a murder to solve and a missing boy to find. There is always an adventure in South Cove that involves Jill putting on her sleuthing hat. This is another fun cozy mystery in the Tourist Trap series.

Jill Gardner owns Coffee, Books, and More, a go-to destination for those needing that first cup in the morning. While life is never dull in the coastal town of South Cove, it's even less so right now for Jill, who's trying to juggle her store, obtain a business degree at a local college and the arrival in town of an author, Nathan Pike, who's come to write his next novel - a murder mystery - and tag along with the local cops. What Jill doesn't count on is the fact that Nathan is annoying and the cops - including her boyfriend Police Chief Greg King - doesn't want anything to do with him.

While at a meet-and-greet for Pike at South Cove B&B, Jill notices Walter Knicely, a rival B&B owner but her attention is soon drawn away by the late arrival of Pike. After the evening ends when Jill and Greg are walking home, they see that her neighbor Esmeralda's lights are still on and wind up discussing a case about a boy, Thad, who went missing, swept away by a wave and is presumed dead. Esmeralda, a self-proclaimed psychic, is convinced he's still alive. While Greg doesn't like the fact she's seeing the parents, there isn't much he can do about it.

On top of this, there's a new clock store in town, Killing Time, but the owner Ian doesn't seem to be very social; and her employee Sasha is leaving for a better job, which means Jill needs to hire another employee. But the big surprise for Jill is that Greg tells her his apartment lease is soon ending, and he wants to move in with her. For Jill, it's not that easy, considering she has a string of bad relationships behind her, so it gives her a lot to think about.

Not too long after the body of Walter is found, and even though Jill is trying to stay out of this one considering everything else she's up against, eventually her natural curiosity gets the better of her and she begins making discreet inquiries. But will she be able to take what she's learned about Walter's past and keep it from getting herself killed in the future?

Once again, we have a delightful mystery set in the lovely coastal town of South Cove. While we are discovering the truth of Walter's murder we're also discovering more bits and pieces about its residents. The characters are vibrant and believable; they have flaws as real people do, and you can feel Jill's insecurity as she wrestles with the decision of whether to allow Greg to move in. But even the side stories are intriguing; not only that of Esmeralda, but with her aunt, Toby, Sasha, and the others; it is a real pleasure to be allowed into these characters' lives and spend time with them.

As for the mystery itself, we actually have two: that of the missing Thad and Walter. While you're rooting for the safety of Thad, you're searching for a murderer, and that is where the tale becomes captivating. There are more than one red herring; what seems to be the easy answer isn't; and things aren't always what they seem. Ms. Cahoon has an ability to create new characters and tie them into the story seamlessly, and thereby creating a delectable storyline of merging the new with the old. It is a book that kept me reading to the end late into the night (Thanks, Lynn).

When we finally come to the end and discover the murderer, it is a sad testament to the fragility of the human mind; both sad and twisted at the same time. We have another winner from the author and I look forward to many more. Highly recommended.

Synopsis:

A visit to the serene coastal town of South Cove, California, could make anybody feel refreshed and inspired. But as Jill Gardner—owner of Coffee, Books, and More—discovers, some folks won’t live to tell about it . . .

As Nathan prepares to complete his magnum opus behind bars, Jill’s the only one who can prove his innocence and deconstruct the plot of a twisted killer! (Goodreads)

Review:

The characters are well rounded, well developed and three dimensional. I really enjoy spending time with Jill, Aunt Jackie, Greg, Toby and all of the other employees of Coffee, Books and More. They are characters I would want as my own friends so I was happy visiting with them again. Some changes are coming to their lives, so good and some not so good. It was interesting seeing how they all handled the changes.

The writing style flows smoothly and the book is an easy read. The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and throughout the book I felt like I was right there, watching all the action taking place around me. I enjoy the small town feel of South Cove, California, with everyone knowing everybody else’s business and offering advice whether it is wanted or not.

Although there were a couple of mysteries involved in this book, the mystery aspects played a secondary role in the story. There is the mystery of who the killer is and also what happened to a little boy. There were suspects to consider and clues to pick up along the way, but I did not feel this was the emphasis in the book. And that was fine with me. I had so much fun visiting Jill and the gang that this was perfect, in my opinion.

I would recommend this great book to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy. I have read all of the books in the series and I have enjoyed them all a lot. I’ll be waiting patiently for the release of the next book.

I received a free copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for a honest review. I would like to thank NetGalley and Kensington Books for the opportunity to read and review this book.

Lynn Cahoon is back with Jill Gardner and another mystery. This time the owner of a local B&B is murdered in the same manner written in author Nathan Pike’s book. Naturally this makes Pike the number one suspect, but Jill isn’t buying it. Her boyfriend, Greg King, may be a police detective, but it’s Jill who loves solving murder mysteries and she intends to solve this one.

Greg would rather see Jill spend more time on their relationship, but it’s not to be. Not only is she involved in investigating the murder, she’s attending school to get her business degree. Also, there’s a second mystery going on in town when a child disappears and is presumed dead. Jill’s psychic neighbor thinks otherwise and Jill intends to get to the bottom of that too.

I always enjoy my visits to the small town of South Cove, California. It feels like visiting and catching up with old friends. This is the 8th book in the series and I've read them all. It keeps getting better with each book.

I would have liked to see more focus on the murder aspect than the romance side of things. When it comes to my cozies, I enjoy the mystery with a small dose of romance.

I did enjoy trying to figure things out and seeing what the cast of characters have been up to. The characters are well-developed and the storyline moves at a fast pace. I’m already looking forward to the next book in this well-written, engrossing series.

This is the first book I've read in this series, but I had no problem following along. The characters were very well written and realistic. The mystery was great with a shocking twist.

I have read all of Lynn Cahoon's books and really enjoy them and this one didn't disappoint. I was glad that Nathan wasn't the murderer in the end and Jill finally figured out who it really was! He wasn't really mentioned in the book so I didn't guess it was the clock maker and presumed it could be someone else!
I look forward to reading the next one in the series. Thank you for letting me read and review this book, it was a joy to read and can't wait for the next one.

I really enjoyed Hospitality and Homicide by Lynn Cahoon. I was given this mystery in exchange for a review. I liked the lead character, Jill, an ex lawyer, turned coffee shop/bookstore owner and college student. Jill is balancing a lot in her life, but still seeks to please her aunt. She's a likeable character that I can see following into other books. She has a romance with the town police officer and he is concerned about her need to investigate every case, but he does value her input. I like that Greg respects her intellect and hope that will continue in the books to come. I will be looking for them.

I confess, I'm a sucker for a good cozy mystery series, and Cahoon's Tourist Trap series fits that bill. With the usual cast of characters, While this is the 8th book in the series, there is enough backstory to follow along (without it being tedious for loyal readers) to standalone. (I know, because I discovered that I had missed #7 and rushed to pick it up.

South Cove chugs along with its cast of quirky and familiar characters. Main character Jill once again can't resist the puzzles that are in front of her, inevitably playing detective despite her boyfriend (and town Sheriff) Greg's protests. After all, there is a lot of questions: who killed Walter, the B&B owner, who is the mysterious motorcyclist tormenting the townspeople and why is the police dispatcher (and local psychic) walking the beach at night?

This is a light mystery - there are no bloody murder scenes. It is a fun mystery and a delightful read.

I love reading and relaxing with a Tourist Trap Mystery by Lynn Cahoon in my hands. The engaging characters and interesting plots draw me straight into the story. In Hospitality & Homicide, several changes are in store at Coffee, Books & More for owner, Jill Gregory, her Aunt Jackie, and their employees and friends. More than one relationship is tested, and I could relate to the conflict and sadness the characters were feeling. Esmeralda and her psychic senses finally receive the recognition they deserve in an emotionally stirring mini-mystery within a mystery. Emma, Jill's golden retriever, becomes a heroine! Jill's sleuthing tactics remain sharp despite the turmoil around her, and the information she and her friends compile tick off a murderer. Excellent story!

I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy from NetGalley and the publisher.
