Solid suspense with lots of red herrings that threw me off the trail. I was suspicious of everyone. Sam and Jules are good, strong protagonists who you'll like immediately. They both need to trust each other to piece together events that have unfolded before the killer strikes again. I will definitely read this author again. She has a way of keeping me riveted and only revealing a little until the very end. This will have you reading into the late hours of the night.
Awesome book. I definitely recommend this book. The level of suspense is top notch and keeps you turning page after page.
This was a great book it had a great stiry line and i never saw the ending coming
Sexy and dangerous read. Lots of good suspense and romance. Who killed Sam's brother? His wife was there when he died, but has a head injury and can't remember. The sheriff thinks it s a suicide. The reporter and the neighbors know something. A couple is killing people, but for who and why? Read and find out.
I could almost tag this book as a straight up romance given how much time is dedicated to Sam and Jules’ love story. While the romance could be a good hook for some I personally just found it distracting and kind of eye roll worthy. Sam and Jules were high school sweethearts, Sam cheats, and after getting dumped Jules finds her way into the arms of his brother, who took care of her through her family troubles. The book spends an inordinate amount of time on Sam’s miserable love life and how he never got over his first love despite a plethora of women throwing themselves at him. This made the earlier parts of the novel slow down to a crawl as the narrative focus was more about the romance than the actual murder.
It got worse when Jules started getting her memory back and remembers nothing of the love she shared with her husband and instead keeps thinking about Sam and all the great sex they had. Days after her husband is murdered. I groaned. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised and it’s predictable, it’s just so distasteful and was just sort of a big middle finger to Sam’s brother Joe. I couldn’t get behind the romance in the story at all and it really decreased my enjoyment. So much that I actually was really struggling to like the book and had been thinking about rating it lower until I got to the second half of the book.
Thank goodness for the second half, when the mystery really started to come together. The thrill killers were an interesting pair that bring to mind several serial killer couples. It was a confusing twist on an otherwise average murder mystery and at first I had been wondering why they were even in the story at all. As I dug deeper into the story, however, things pulled together nicely and I actually found these characters to be pretty interesting.
This was the part of the book that was actually good, and the ending alone convinced me to push my rating just a little bit higher. It was worth slogging through the romance to get to the good stuff. While I found certain parts predictable and had figured out the dastardly duo immediately when they were introduced I still enjoyed unraveling the mystery and finding a few surprises along the way.
The romance portion of the book didn't work at all; I never felt it or believed in it. The mystery portion was well done however. I was kept guessing and there were some very good twists near the end. The ending completely surprised me, I had no clue that was coming. The story didn't wow me overall but it did keep me reading, and wondering.
Another fantastic book by Nancy Bush. Full of mystery and suspense, twists and turn, it was atmospheric and the character well drawn. Loved it.
great twist and turns that keeps you up turning pages! Dangerous behavior will be a book for the beach this summer!
Death, family, old loves, neighbors and a former cop who needs to solve a family murder. As Sam and his sister-in-law seek to resolve the questions they need answered, the reader is kept in suspense. Who of the Fisher Canal residents is a dangerous murderer and why kill. Another great romantic suspense novel from Nancy Bush!
Sam had gotten a text from his brother Joe and it said “ meet me at my dock at noon”. Sam and Joe had a rift and it grew over the years and they didn’t speak much anymore so Sam was surprised by the text. Sam answered with a text and said he couldn’t make even though he really could have. But he didn’t hear back from Joe. Sam had quit his job as a Seaside cop for a job in Portland for a better job but then someone with power took the job and left Sam without a job. Sam could have went back and got his job back at Seaside but he didn’t know if he wanted to. Joe didn’t answer any of Sam’s further texts so he drove to Joe’s house but no one answered him at Joe’s house. Also Joe’s boat was nowhere at the dock. Sam headed toward the bay when no one showed up by 12:45. Then Sam put a call into his ex partner Giff. They had been partners for five years. Sam drove to the sharp cliffs that reached into the ocean. It had created an isolated beach that you could only reach at low tide. Then Sam saw a shoe bobbing in the waves. Then Sam jumped in and pulled the woman to shore and gave her CPR and she finally brought up a bunch at ocean water from her lungs. The woman was Jules where was Joe. Julia/Jules was Sam’s ex girlfriend and she married Joe - Sam’s brother. Sam and Jules had been sweethearts in school but broke up and Julia ended up relying on Joe in some difficult times in her life. Joe’s body is found a couple of days later and Sam is determined to find out what happened and who took his brother’s life. When Jules finally comes to in the hospital she has no memory of anyone or anything including her husband Joe but she does remember loving Sam. Then there is a man and woman perfect for each other. They love to kill for thrills and love getting paid by an anonymous old man.
This was a great thriller and I enjoyed reading this. This book keeps your attention from the very beginning of the story to the end. This story had you sitting on the edge of your seat. I loved how Sam was so determined to find out what happened to Joe his brother. I also liked how we were kept guessing who the killers were. The only thing that bothered me was how Sam and Jules had been brought up a lot that Sam and Julia had been in love when her husband was dead and under mysterious situations. She had been left to die also. I liked the plot and the characters and I loved the twists and turns and I recommend.
Dangerous Behavior by Nancy Bush
High finance, lost money, deception, thrill killing, adultery, divorce and a second chance at love are just part of what happens in this novel.
I have always enjoyed books by this author and did enjoy this one but…I think what I really wished there had been more of was character development…of just about everyone. Everything was explained but I wanted more.
* More about Sam: why he was at loose ends and what really made him tick.
* More about Jules: who was she really and what had she been doing between high school and her case of amnesia
* More about Joe: who was he really – what kind of personality did he have – perhaps some flashbacks that included him.
* More…to flesh out the murders, murderers, community and main characters.
That said:
* I did not figure out who the thrill killers were till the very end and that is rare for me
* There were twists and turns that were unexpected
* I enjoyed the book and believe that if this was the beginning of a series it would be perfect because I kind of want to know MORE about all of the players from Griff and his sister to the Fisher community.
Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington – Zebra for the ARC. This is my honest review.
3 - 4 Stars
Wow what a fantastic suspense. Well written plot with many twist and turns that kept me guessing and on the edge of my seat. My first book by this author and I throughly enjoyed her writing style.
Fans of classic mysteries will love the latest by Nancy Bush (one of my favorites!) which isn’t necessarily action-packed, but will put readers’ detective skills to the test in pursuit of some “thrill killers” and their puppeteer.
The book centers on the murder of Joe Ford, whose estranged brother, ex-police officer Sam Ford, was summoned to his house the day his boat catches fire, killing him and leaving his wife Julia badly injured. Sam and Julia were once a hot item and the brothers fell out over the marriage, but despite their differences, Sam is determined to catch his brother’s killer. The case quickly centers around recent business dealings of Joe’s and other financial bigwigs in the area. In a small town, everyone knows everyone’s business, and everyone’s connected. Untangling everything is a big task.
This is definitely one of those cases where it seems so straightforward but soon small twists take the story in other directions. It’s interesting to see how it slowly unravels. And there are a ton of suspects so readers will remain guessing until the end – at least I did.
And there’s a great little twist at the end. Loved it.
The thrill killer seems provide some action but mostly the novel follow Sam and Julia as she tries to remember that day and Sam tries to make sense of his brothers final days – a rough task since they were estranged. I didn’t mind this because it allowed me to focus on the mystery in the story rather than all of the action and movement.
Like I said, it really is a classic mystery-type story.
I don’t know if Bush will go back to this town or these characters in the future for more, but I would definitely read more about them. And there’s plenty of interesting stories in there somewhere, with all the characters that she introduces.
Another winner here, folks.
Sam Ford has had a bit of a rocky relationship with his brother Joe for years now since Joe ended up marrying Julia, Sam’s ex-girlfriend. Sam and Julia had been sweethearts back in school but had a falling out pushing Julia to rely on Joe through some tough times in her life after which she accepted his proposal.
Now Sam has received a text from Joe asking for him to meet him at his dock which seems a little suspicious but when Sam arrived to find Joe’s boat gone he begins to worry. Soon after Sam hears of a boat on fire and just knows that Joe and Julia are involved. Julia ends up being rescued but unfortunately Joe’s body is recovered. Sam vows to find out just what happened and who had taken his brother’s life.
I was a bit torn on my feelings towards Dangerous Behavior the entire time I was reading this book. The mystery/thriller side to the story wasn’t bad at all but I still had my own hesitations to enjoying this one. I am unfortunately not a huge fan of relationships with siblings and the fact that the book kept focusing on how in love Sam and Julia had been when Julia’s husband has just been murdered was a bit of a turn off. Just my opinion on this one but I feel it would have read much better not focusing so much on the past and then not pushing a new/old relationship popping up between the main characters after such a tragedy.
Without the relationship focus between Sam and Julia I think I would have really gotten invested in the story with this book. There was an obvious serial killer couple that the reader would get glimpses of while reading. Intrigue and suspense with the boating accident and plenty to keep a reader guessing. For me though being disconnected with the romance part of the story I didn’t get as invested in the book as I would have liked.
I received an advance copy from the publisher via NetGalley.
Dangerous Behavior has two separate story lines. One is that Julia (Jules) and Sam were high school sweethearts and lovers until he screwed up by kissing another girl. Jules wound up marrying Sam's brother, Joe, creating a rift between the brothers.
So he's surprised to get a text from his brother telling him to meet him at the dock where he keeps his boat. Sam goes and finds his brother's boat on fire. He also finds Jules, half drowned, and his brother is found some days later, drowned. Waking in the hospital, Jules has no memory of anyone or anything.
Sam is determined to find his brother's killer.
Then there are the man and woman who are absolutely perfect for each other. They love to kill for thrills, and love getting paid by an anonymous old man, even better. And it does wonderful things for their sex life.
While this book started out with a good premise, it got a little old when Sam would remember things from when he first loved Jules. He never stopped loving her. And then, as Jules' memory came back, she doesn't remember her husband.. she remembers the exact same things that Sam has remembered. The book is peppered from one end to another with these memories.
You are introduced to the killers .. but because there are many new characters at the same time, the reader is kept in the dark about their identities.
I actually thought the ending was the best part of this book. It was a total surprise that I never saw coming.
I have read Nancy Bush before .. this is not one of her best. Wasn't bad enough to make me stop reading ... but just not that exciting in the big scheme of things.
Many thanks to the author / Kensington Books - Zebra / Netgalley for the advanced digital copy of DANGEROUS BEHAVIOR. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
This was a very interesting read that will leave you guessing! The characters are well-developed and the story-line complex enough to draw you in, but not so much as to become confusing. And the twists at the end? Wow. I never saw them coming!
I also enjoyed the way that Sam was relentless in his pursuit of what happened to his brother, despite no longer being a police officer, he was able to piece together things that the regular police missed and aide them in their investigation (although at times I did wonder why the local police didn't do more to keep him away from things).
The complex relationship between Sam and Jules was an unexpected element that made the story more personal, and finding out that they had a shared history and the details therein added to my overall enjoyment of the story.
Overall, I am sure this story my still appeal to those who enjoy a good thriller novel. I would definitely read more from this author.

I love this authors work so I knew that this book was gonna be good but holy moley, I had no idea just how good!! This book had so much going on and just when I thought I might have something figured out, everything would change. A burned boat, a dead husband and amnesia are what Jules has to deal with but with the help of her first love and brother in-law Sam she's hoping to figure out who's responsible and why....hopefully before the killer comes back to finish the job. A real edge of your seat page turner!! Impossible to put down.
Who killed Joe Ford or was it suicide? Joe's brother Sam needs to know what happened to his brother and he will do anything to find out. Starting from the first chapter this book grabs you and keeps you wondering....what happened and who did it! I love a good murder mystery and this book keeps you intrigued till the final page. Loved Sam and Jules . Lots of mystery, suspense and a bit of romance. The perfect book! Great summer beach read! Recommend if you love a fast lots of thrills book!
This was a great book story wise. The pacing was quite slow, but I was definitely interested in the characters!
Nancy Bush is one of my favorite authors. This book started slow and I was not sure about the past relationships in this story, but as usual the author pulled it all together.
