“I might not deserve it, but I want it. Another chance. I want you.”
Lucas Cortez.
Can I have him?
Or… actually, maybe I want to pinch him. Hard.
Both. Let's go with both.
FYI, this is a small-town second chance romance with a sexy cowboy, which is essentially BOOK CRACK for the likes of me. And is probably why I started Comeback Cowboy so strong.
Seriously, I. Could. Not. Stop. Reading. I was more than halfway through before I knew it. I cried, I ached, I fumed, I swooned. And then, drama. Both good—the type that kind of wrings you out and keeps your tush planted precariously on the edge of your seat—and bad.
Not BAD bad, mind you. More like, just a little too much. At times, I found myself frustrated by what felt a little repetitive, by Lucas’ fallback position. And yet, I was—still am—all kinds of mushy about this book, and these characters. Because Lucas was a good, if stubborn man, and Naomi, a relatable, likable woman. Strong when she needed to be, I loved her fight. And, as a mother, I hurt and hoped for both Naomi, and her little girl, Gracie. I wanted a HEA for them—actually, for all three of them. Together.
I won't say more except that Comeback Cowboy left me happy. With its sweet ending and set-up for Levi’s book, I'm already ready to fall for another Cortez cowboy—and given what we know of Levi’s past, I'm ready to pinch him, too.
“I’ve never loved anyone else,” she whispered, touching her fingers to his lips. “I don’t think it’s possible.”

COMEBACK COWBOY is a sweet, emotional and touching second chance romance that perfectly captures the small town feel, both good and bad, that Sara Richardson has become known for.
Naomi Sullivan once looked forward to happy ever after with the boy of her dreams, until he went to jail for arson and she found herself married and with a child before being ditched by her ex-husband. Now her every dream is wrapped up in giving her daughter the best life she can. Except her past is about to careen into her future and she has to decide if she can take another chance on love or turn her back on it for good this time.
Lucas Cortez took a gamble on his good boy reputation and lost everything ten years ago. He's mostly stayed away from his hometown since getting out of prison but with his father's ill health, he's back temporarily but someone is determined to drive him out of town for good, even endangering others to do so. Lucas has to decide if he will fight for Naomi and their love or let himself be run out of town again.
I think the author did a great job with the entire story - the characters and the drama around them, and really captured the conflicting emotions a person can go through in such situations. Can a person really move on from their past, especially when there are others determined to keep the past alive?
This story will take you on an emotional ride, so brace yourself. The only downside for me was that the drama was dialed to a high degree, almost too much for me and I was all for Lucas saying adios to a town that was not willing to give him a second chance, even after he paid for his stupid choices. You'll also empathize with a single mom caught up in telenovela-worthy drama trying to do right by her daughter and herself.
All in all, a solid addition to the series and Ms. Richardson brings the small town scenery to life in a way that will have you wanting to move to one, even with the accompanying drama.
Lucas is as sexy a cowboy as you could ask for - strong, honest, caring, and maybe just a touch stubborn :) But Naomi is is a good match for him - just as strong and caring ... and just as stubborn. Thanks to a mistake that was made while he was a teen, Lucas was sent to prison and after his release he felt he couldn't come back. Because of that he pushed Naomi away as well (for her own good of course). Yeah, that goes over as well as you expect.
I get why Lucas did what he did and why he's stayed away. And if he even thinks about staying in town he's going to have to face down a lot of negativity. But time spent with Naomi and her daughter has him thinking about his future a little differently. Thinking that maybe coming home is the right thing after all.
Naomi definitely has a reason to not want to give Lucas another chance. She's been a single mother for years and she's got her daughter's heart to think of too. She may find herself drawn to Lucas still but the chance that he could leave again means that she's got a lot to lose.
I think it would be too easy for someone to write off Comeback Cowboy as just another second chance romance, but Richardson delivers a really delightful read. Her characters have heart (and a boatload of problems) and while the story may be somewhat predictable it is still enticing and hard to put down.
With years of hurt feelings on her part and the disapproval of the town weighing on his shoulders, Naomi and Lucas don't have it easy. But with Lucas back in town because of his father's failing health, being together again may just force the two to face their past and make a decision about their future.
Single mom Naomi Sullivan has been doing things on her owns since her daughter was born. She has been living and working at the Cortez ranch just as long and has finally saved up enough money to buy a lovely house and turn it into a Bed and Breakfast everything is going great for her.
Lucas Cortez has come back to town to help out his dad on the ranch for a while but does not plan to stay long. Naomi and Lucas were in love back in high school so when Lucas sees the girl that he never stopped loving again he starts thinking that maybe he would like to stay a while. He will have to work hard to win over Naomi again as he left so abruptly in the past.
Will his troubled past and secrets prevent their love from flourishing?

A tasty cowboy romance in a moralistic, biased inner city is what Cowboy Comeback brings. With a fluid writing and full of emotions, Sarah Richardson shows the journey to the happily ever after of Lucas and Naomi.
Naomi discovers that Lucas has returned to the city because of his father's illness and does everything to avoid him, because he has broken her heart in the past and irremediably. Now she only wants to open her inn and take care of her sweet daughter.
Lucas is a responsible and loyal cowboy who suffers from being abandoned by his mother and takes on the responsibility of taking care of his family afterwards, but a tragic event changes his life and forever marks him in the city where he lived.
When he revisits Naomi, Lucas realizes that he still loves her that he wants to win back the girl, but his past persecutes him and he does not want to disturb her life and her sweet ten-year-old daughter. Only this time, Naomi is not willing to give up on this love and will do everything to rid Lucas of the injustices he suffers.
The plot is smooth and with several moments of suspense and many emotions and adventures. I will never see a simple fly fishing like before, of that I am sure. LOL

5 Comeback Cowboy Stars!! What a sweet fantastic story that keeps you flipping pages. This book has all the feels with forgiveness and wonderful characters. I loved seeing the story play out for Lucus and Naomi. Sara Richardson is a beautiful storyteller and always gives us fabulous books. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book from publisher via NetGalley.
Comeback Cowboy by Sara Richardson is a second chance at love romance with a hot and sexy cowboy and a woman determined to forge ahead. A story that touches on family, a small town and all the drama that comes with that.
Naomi Sullivan has worked hard to provide for her daughter. As a single mother, her daughter is always her first priority. But when the only man she has ever loved returns, can she risk trusting him again? Especially now with a child in the mix?
Lucas Cortez carries a lot of baggage. Doing what he believed was the right, cost him so much. He never really felt worthy of Naomi, but more so now. But she still affects him in the same way. Could he have a second chance? But as Naomi and Lucas spend time together, the town he came back too does not want him to stay. All he wants is to protect Naomi and Gracie, but will staying cause more harm than good?
Lucas and Naomi did not have an easy journey, but seeing them stand together for what they wanted showed Lucas there can be second chances. I loved how strong and determined Naomi was. Lucas was ready to start over, but can you ever really overcome your past? Especially when others will not let you forget?
It was so sweet to see Lucas and Naomi reconnect, even with so much drama following them. Lucas was so determined to keep his family and Naomi and her daughter safe, but could it cost him all he ever wanted?
I enjoyed reading this second chance at love story. It had good characters, a story that flowed well and enough drama to want to pull your hair out. A great, quick read that will pull you in.
Naomi Sullivan has learned a few lessons in her life. Never trust a cowboy to stay and never willingly give your heart away. Lessons learned courtesy of Lucas Cortez. All loving him got her was a bunch of heartache and a ton of responsibilities. Her pride and her daughter are all that she needs. When her biggest heartache walks back into her life, can she endure the emotions he resurrects and hold tight to the secret she keeps? Ms. Richardson creates the stories she's best known for. Second chance romances. Comeback Cowboy is teasing, tempting and smothered with an emotion that Sara Richardson excels at. LOVE!
I have not read the first book in the Rocky Mountain Riders series, however this did not affect my enjoyment of book 2.
Comeback Cowboy, as the title probably gives away, is a sweet, contemporary second chance romance.
Naoim and Lucas' relationship is beyond complicated. Throw other people - especially in a small town - into the mix and it could be a down right mess.
However Naomi takes them all on head on and holds her head high, for herself and her daughter Gracie - who is just too cute for words. I love that she doesn't ask or want help - but is not so stubborn to reject help that is offered.
I get the small town vibe of this book - I live in a town where if you sneeze, the next day the gossip mill has you on your death bed, so I could completely empathise with how the characters felt.
Whilst the plot of the story is nothing new - good guy, bad luck, loses the girl, wants the girl back - the execution of Comeback Cowboy that kept me anxiously turning each page.
I love the secondary characters in this book, particularly Lucas' brothers, and now can't to see where the series goes next - and I will go back and read the first book!
Please see above notes regarding this title. Thanks for the chance to read it.
3.5 stars
I had read and enjoyed the first book in this series, so I was pretty excited to get to this one.
I loved Naomi. She's strong and sassy and stands up for herself. Lucas is stubborn and loyal and I really enjoyed seeing them work things out. This is a fun group of characters.
Plot wise, it was a little dramatic. There are a few threads going at the same time and with that came a lot of push and pull. Thankfully, there wasn't a break up, but there were several several attempts.
Overall, it was a quick read with an adorable ending. I can't wait to see Levi's story.
**Huge thanks to Forever for providing the arc free of charge**
Having spent a great deal of time in Texas, I can attest to the fact there is something innately sexy and romantic about a good old fashioned cowboy which Sara Richardson managed to capture perfectly.
If you are looking for a decent story of love and romance all wrapped up in that small town kind of charm which only seems to exist on the Hallmark Channel then you have found the right book. Richardson, whether because she has personal experience or just watches a lot of Hallmark movies, created a surprisingly well-written and realistic story that will give you some pleasant day dreams.
You’ll love her humor, the characters that pop up to make this story flow into an enjoyable novel, the bit of intrigue, the strength in her female character, her ideas on second chances in love and her theme of family. It all wraps into the perfect ending so you’ll definitely want to buy the next.
A very enjoyable read! Loved the humor, that wedding had me laughing. Though I would have liked to see if the locals stopped pissing on him after everything came to light. I am guessing we will find out in the next book that's about Levi?
This is a voluntary review and my thoughts are my own!
As a lover of cowboy romance and second chance love, this story was right on the nose. I loved the smalltown ambiance, both the good and the bad. Coming from a very small community myself, it was very realistic. Naomi was a wonderful character and I loved seeing how determined she was to make a good life for her daughter. I just love a woman who can stand on her own two feet. While I know that the "secret" is simply a plot device, I'm just not sure that in real life I'd ever be able to truly trust and forgive someone that kept one that life changing from me.
"Your words might be quiet." "But they mean more than most people's."
Sometimes you just need a sweet second chance romance to get lost in and that's exactly what Comeback Cowboy is.
Told from dual points of view, Comeback Cowboy follows the story of Naomi and Lucas. For Naomi, there has only been one love in her life and that was Lucas. He was her high school sweetheart, her everything. Their love was intense and like non other. All was going well until Lucas made a life altering decision. They say hindsight is twenty-twenty and in Lucas' case there are lots of things that he regrets. The biggest, keeping Naomi away. Lucas never wanted to return home, but life had other plans for him. Because of his past, Lucas doesn't plan on staying long, but when Naomi re-enters the picture, all of Lucas' intentions go away. Life has given him hope and a second chance and he'll stop at nothing to win back Naomi....
Overall, I found this book to be a quick and enjoyable read. I thought the story was well written and interesting. I am such a sucker for small town second chance romances, so naturally I fell in love with the setting instantly. I think the small town setting adds a lot to the story and is an interesting element for the characters to overcome. Living in a small town isn't easy and when you have to deal with everyone knowing your business and judging you...well, that just really adds an interesting element to the story. I thought the characters were great and very easy to connect with. I admired Naomi a lot. It's not easy being on your own, having to do everything. Add in raising a kid by yourself, and well, lets just say, Naomi is plain awesome. She is a devoted mother, hard worker and loves with everything she is. And Lucas...Oh, Lucas. He made a lot of mistakes as a young man and had a lot to make up for. I appreciated how thick his skin was and how he didn't let the small town prejudices get to him. He worked hard to get where he is in his life and is honestly a good man. I adored Lucas and Naomi together. They had amazing chemistry and I enjoyed their pull. I loved the way their relationship was re-built and grew. I think these two worked really hard to go after the things that they wanted in life and I couldn't help but root for these two to find their way back to happiness.
Comeback Cowboy is my first book by this author and it definitely won't be my last. This story hit all the marks for me, giving me a sweet and unforgettable second chance romance. I think this story had a wonderful message of hope, forgiveness, not letting others opinions rule your life and not being afraid to take a chance on love. Simply put, this was a wonderful story to spend the day getting lost in.
Seldom does a story touch me as deeply as this one did. The core of the story about family and second chances was certainly eclipsed by Lucas and Naomi and the strength of their love fighting to bring them back together. The author brought merit to small town prejudices and how quickly good people could be brought down by such narrow mindedness. The ending could not have been more perfect and definitely leaves me hoping for more to come about the Cortez brothers.
