Steven was declared dead. When he came back, he had experienced heaven, and that changed the direction of his life. He honestly tells readers about his life, and finds hope in the answers he received. I'm not sure I believe in near death experiences, and the book did not convince me.
I have read many of the new 'Heaven Tourism' books; books that chart people's near-death experiences. Some of them are breath taking and convincing in their descriptions and some are more mundane- of course the experience itself may not have been so, but it may have lost something in the translation to the page. Some of these stories have an inauthentic feel to them, and I suspect that I'm being fed pure fiction. And I must admit that I always read them with a slightly sceptical air...
About half way through this book I thought 'Oh my goodness, this man is telling the truth'. He has a complete lack of self-aggrandisement and his honest transformation touches the reader deeply. And what sets this story apart from many others in the genre is the real-world applicability that Steven Musick is able to draw from his experience. He describes 'bubbles of heaven'; occasions where heaven breaks through into our ordinary life, and we have the chance to manifestly bring heaven to earth in a real way. A near-death experience, Jesus, and an action plan to make the world a better place?? Always going to be a winner for me.
I am always wary about reading a book about a near death experience, but there was something about the description of this book that wanted me to give it a try. I am so glad that I did. The book begins with the author's life story, his pain and struggles, and then talks about his visit to heaven. Mr. Musick does a wonderful job of describing his experiences there and what it meant to him and how it changed his life.
The last part of the book I feel is the most important. He talks about how all of us kind find our own heaven "bubbles" here on earth. He discusses the volunteering he does, his time with just sitting and listening to others in pain and how he has helped them. It made me want to look for opportunities in my own life to find ways to help others in need or just say something kind to make someones day a little better. I know I will be thinking about this book for a long time. I highly recommend it.
