The book is bright and well-designed: I would recommend that it is stocked in the children's section, as it is very much aimed at a younger audience. The ideas are cute and easy to follow: it's very much aimed at those embracing a 'girly' aesthetic.
This is a fun book for young girls who want to learn to DIY their spaces. Projects are well illustrated with color photos. The styles tend towards cutesy, fluffy, feminine and Bohemian, and are the kind of projects you see on decorating blogs but are designed for younger girls. Many will need some adult help.
This is a fun & creative book on how to decorate your room. There are some very fun & clever design ideas in this book that will be fun to create for people of all ages.
Cute & has great ideas for possible projects. Excellent pictures. Enjoyable to look at for inspiration.
Nicely done with pictures, clear directions and tips. A couple easily adapted beyond the teen room to the main home.
My daughter previewed this book with me and was so excited by the end that she wanted to buy it. Sadly, at the time, I had to tell her it wouldn't be available until September. She especially liked the creativity demonstrated in the projects, and wants to try some of them out for her own room. We will be buying a copy for home!
I think this book is fantastic for a teenager who is looking to transform her childhood room into a the warm and inviting yet funky space. I loved the projects that were included. I think that they were reasonable projects that aren't too complicated. There's nothing worse than trying to recreate something on Pinterest to only find out that you don't have the equipment or skill! I would definitely recommend this as a resource for a girl between the ages of 13 - 17. The projects in this book are also great inspiration points or springboards to ideas that are individualized. Great stuff!
This book is so pretty. Everything is gorgeous and such a good idea.
Though it's ostensibly aimed at young girls (tweens-high school aged), I found some nice DIY ideas here which wouldn't be out of place in a grown up environment. Many of these were 'awesome' according to my 18 year old daughter.
The book is lavishly illustrated and the tutorials are full of easy-to-understand instructions. The book is arranged logically in sections with similar projects grouped together. The sections include: Furniture & Fabrics, Storage & Organization, Dressing Zone, Walls, and Glam Decor & More.
The projects run the gamut from practical to very whimsical (and a few are a bit silly, but everyone needs a little silly in their space, right?). I liked the advice posted at regular intervals in the book (*remember to get permission!). I also like the empowerment vibe in this book. You can do it. I am all for people doing more DIY and recycling instead of just ditching everything in a landfill. The book also starts with a welcome bit of advice to clean up your bedroom/space and organize.Awesome advice (I'm a mother :)
Definitely a useful and creative book. Recommended!
I am always looking for ways to improve the spaces in my house, and Room Love has quite a few inexpensive little ideas that are fun DIY projects. Many of the ideas are geared towards tweens, however there are some great organizational tips that can be useful to anyone. If you have some washi tape, scrapbook paper and acrylic paint on hand, you are well on your way to get started on many of Wutschke’s projects.
I have recently begun to organize my bookshelves and I was really inspired by the washi tape embellishment idea in Room Love. What is so great about washi tape is its versatility and the ability to remove it easily if needed. I never considered using it in my decorating before, and it is such a fun idea!
The layout of this DIY book is so pretty and has lots of pictures with step-by-step directions that can be followed with ease. It is one that will appeal to pre-teens that are wanting to jazz up their space a little bit without having to purchase expensive supplies. It is a definite gift for the tween DIYers on your list!
I've always been more of a pragmatist than the artsy type. As long as an object fulfills its purpose, I'm a happy girl. However, lately I've been trying to add some more flair to my surroundings - I turned my balcony into a jungle, I painted my walls and even added a few framed pictures here and there. I browsed Instagram in search of a few decoration ideas and even tried a few of those things, most of which I failed at miserably.
So of course I jumped at the chance to have a look at an entire collection of ideas how to visually improve my apartment and maybe even optimize my organization in the process.
However, the majority of the projects depicted in this book are rather girly and gaudy, and while I would have loved them ten to fifteen years ago, I feel like I'm too old now to appreciate those things.
Still, I think that Wutschke did a bang-up job of gathering cute and easily realizable DIY ideas (that you may or may not have already come across on Instagram) to decorate your living space.
The book has a cute style, the instructions are clear and comprehensible, and she even gives advice on how to tidy out and organize.
I went straight to the book's description and missed that this fun DIY book is for 9-13 year olds. I think some of these crafts would work for that age range, but I think others would require parent assistance (and permission as the book states). I would honestly skew this age range a little higher if you want the results to turn out as well as the examples in the book! I don't think as an adult that I could paint a waterfaded flower as well as the author did on her pillow. Plus, picking up a heavy piece of furniture in order to dip the legs in paint is not something a kid can do on his/her own.
The book starts out in giving kids an idea of decluttering and organizing their room before they start planning a room design. I like the tips to use pieces of paper to lay out the bedroom. I'm not sure how effectively 9 to 13-year-olds understand scale, but I know every parent appreciates someone else telling their kids ways that they can keep their room cleaner.
As a 30-something-year-old, a lot of this book content isn't something I would want to imitate exactly, but it did inspire me to do something in a slightly more classy fashion. For example, the "Easy Peasy Earring Holder" (which is a wooden cross-stitch frame with a cloth insert) would look awesome in a modern bedroom if you painted the wood metallic silver and used a bold modern cloth to hang the earrings from. Likewise, the driftwood necklace holder painted a metallic silver or gold would also look fabulous. Even using a plain piece of driftwood could create a relaxing, natural look for your bedroom.
Another tip that I like is the painted shoebox organization idea. Although I would buy shoeboxes already in a color I like, I do appreciate the suggestion of taking a photo and taping it to the front of it. That's clever and certainly looks better than a haphazard collection of random shoe boxes in one's closet.
Overall, now knowing that this book is really for kids, I would give it a 3 out of 5 stars, which means I "liked it" using the Goodreads scale. As I said previously, I think the age range should be adjusted to a tad bit older. I appreciate the author's clear instructions that help kids take ownership of their room's look and feel. Some of the projects definitely look craftsy, which is fine for a youth. I dock one star because none of the projects blew me away with their originality. That's hard to do today though with Pinterest providing craft ideas. The cursive script is a tad hard to read--hopefully that is better with a hard copy of the book.
Thank you for the free Netgalley copy so that I could review the book!
This is a fab gift for a teenager! Lovely projects to change and personalize the bedroom. I can imagine it could give hours of entertainment. Easy to follow instructions with colourful pictures. A lovely little read!
This is one of the best DIY decorating books that I have ever seen! The decorations are timely and easy to do. The ideas are in tune with what young girls want for their bedroom and cost little to no money, depending on what you already have in your home. This DIY book is targeted for young girls ages 9 - 13, however, I believe that any mother of a young girl will love the decorating ideas in this book as well. The pictures and illustrations are bright and colorful. The instructions are easy to follow and involve only a few steps and most of the ideas consist of items that are usually around the house already. Not only does the author show what the DIY-ers need, but explains the "why" behind the concepts. She even explains how to start a major project using "mood boards" and a clean working area. This book is not only fun to look at, but it sparks the imagination and creativity of those that read it.
Great ideas! Super easy to do projects! Photo's along with details. You can take ANY idea and put it into your own design "twist". Even though I'm super crafty, this STILL was A fun, easy read, that taught me some tips!
This book was a really cute book filled with ideas for tweens and teens to decorate their room. There were projects that were various degrees of time and difficulty, which I really enjoyed!
Good DIY ideas for young teens. It is a fun book with colourful photographs
A lot of great suggestions! There are some great ideas as is or you can further embellish them to fit your room's needs. The color samples went really well together. There are tips, organization ideas that will make parents happy and kids will love. All around great ideas for all budgets.
Bright, colorful ideas to incorporate a teen/tween's personality into their room. Most projects require just a few inexpensive items to complete and are easy to put together. Lots and lots and lots of projects!!!! There's a project in this book for everyone. I like that the book also mentions decluttering and taking unwanted items to a thrift store. Very nice book!
Great ideas for young girls. A quick, fun read. It gave me lots of inspiration for both of my daughters' rooms.
