A quirky, fun read. Many will relate to Zinnia in how she feels she does not belong and having things change that there is no control over. Even older readers with children will relate to how being a parent is not easy and how we sometimes don't see what is right in front of us.

I received this advanced copy from Net Galley for my honest review.

Davis' debut novel does an excellent job of combining the joys, fears and transitions of friendships, families and communities into one book. The themes flow naturally throughout the book as the characters evolve. From the bees to Dr. Flossdrop, Davis develops characters in a way that has you rooting for each one in a different way. Based on this showing, I am excited for her next novel!

Having bees in your hair is an interesting concept for a book , that and the fact that the young Zinnia knitted, made me give this book a chance.

But other than inspire her, the poor bees just suffered the whole time. I suppose their little dialogues were supposed to be funny but they were painfully sad. We could have had no bees and had a good, fine story of a friendship and family dynamics.

My recommendation would be to skip the chapters with the bees. Then you will enjoy the book more.

Thanks to Netgalley for making this book available for an honest review
