I both liked and disliked parts of this novel. His Family of Convenience is a lost love/accidental pregnancy. Marco doesn’t find out he is the father of his former intern’s son until a year after their one-night stand. Senna tried to contact Marco but after being unreachable for a year, she was shocked when he shows up know about her son/their son. I loved the fact that a family is being reunited and the attraction between these two is something else. I disliked Marco constantly putting his family first and allowing them to meddle in his love life.
I also dislike Senna’s lack of back bone. Over all it was a good novel, something was just missing for me. For as much as I was swooning while reading, I was also internally yelling at both main characters. It was a 3.5 star read in my opinion.
Marco is a man who takes his responsibilities to heart. Family and business are his first priority, until a one night consequence has him yearning for more. Senna made a choice that changed her life forever. One night cost her the career of her dreams, the guy of her fantasies and gained her the love of a lifetime. If she's willing to risk her heart and take a chance. Meddling families, secret engagements and a surprise baby make for DRAMA, DRAMA, DRAMA.
'His Family of Convenience' by Amy Ayers is book One in the "The Medina Legacy" series. This is the story of Marco Medina and Senna Callas.
This book is somewhat a second chance at love theme. Marco and Senna had what seems a hot attraction and acted on it their last working day together. After their 'one night' Marco just up and disappeared. Senna had tried to contact him to let him know that she is now pregnant but he never made contact back. Now in the present day he shows up at her work. Marco wants his son and quickly moves them to meet his family. But we learn that even though Marco has strong family values/ties he has been promised to another one to marry by his father. Marco and Senna can't fight their attraction but Senna doesn't want to be a mistress. Will these two work it out? Can Marco not see what he should really be doing?

I received this book as a ARC copy from NetGallery for an honest review. I give this book 5 stars. I whole heartedly recommend this book. The storyline between the hero and the heroine was well written. The book has love, betrayal, thrill, suspense, steamy sences, no abuse, lust and a HEA ending. This book was a great book to read.
I thought this was a great read. It's very well written and I really enjoyed these characters. Senna was so gracious and not angry like many women would be. Marco was intriguing. Trying to live up to everyone's expectations yet never going for what he really wants. A terrific story of family loyalty and love and I book I definitely recommend to everyone.
His Family of Convenience by Amy Ayers is the first book in The Medina Legacy series.
A second chance romance with a baby included? Oh yeah, count me in!
This is one of my favorite tropes, reason why I decided to read it. I liked Senna and Marco's story, just didn't quite loved them. However, I do want to point out that it was a very enjoyable read. I do have a soft spot for this kind of stories.
As I mentioned above, this is one of my favorite plots so no problem there. I liked how the author decided to start the story. She didn't waste time and went right to the point. At first, I have to say I wasn't so sure about that part but once the story started flowing effortlessly, I realized I didn't need the "hows and wheres". Although, she did give them to me in the form of little memories.
The characters. Senna & Marco weren't perfect and their stubbornness and lack of decision were the firsts downers. Followed by the moment when they "got together". I mean, their situation wasn't an easy one, so their "hard to get" then "take me-here-right-now" relationship got on my nerves.
There was a character that caught my attention, so I will be reading the next one hoping she gets her own book with one of the Medina brothers!
His Family of Convenience was a very enjoyable and not too hard story, an easy warm read that you can snuggle up with when you just want a have a good time.
This story really bothered me! Marco is arrogant and treated Senna with less respect than she deserved. He wants the child he just found out about, but he is also betrothed to marry another girl. That bothered me so much!! I just could not warm up to him. I finished the story, but would not read it again.
Ms. Ayers has delivered a wonderful, heartwarming read in this story, which grabbed my attention from the start with Senna discovering Marco is back and making demands of her because he wants to get to know his son. How can she possibly say no to him? Will Marco even accept no for an answer when he doesn't know the meaning of the word? However, it was from the moment that these two came face-to-face for the first time in this story that had me flipping the pages rapidly, determined to discover more about their past history and why Marco has been gone for so long without staying in touch.
As for the dialogue, it was intense due to the main characters back stories and all these two go through on their journey to happy ever after. The moment when I read what Marco was wanting to do to Senna and their child had me shaking my head at him. How could he do what he wants to do to Senna when there's such a strong bond between her and their son? However, Marco did redeem himself when his plans change and he starts having to decide what he wants most. Will he honor his family obligations or follow his heart? Marco is arrogant, confident and I liked how determined he was to honor his family obligations, even though he knew he wouldn't be happy in the long run. Luckily, his brother offers him some really good advice once they get things sorted out with the family company and he makes a decision that could be the best decision he's ever made.
While Senna, she's strong and brave having to deal with not only Marco but most of his family. It isn't easy, especially when they make her feel like the odd one out, but she handles everything as best she can. She's also a really good mother and I could understand why she wants Marco to be a part of his son's life, even though she and the hero may not ever be anything more than friends. Senna didn't know her father and she doesn't want her son feeling that he's not good enough to warrant the love of both his parents.
Overall, Ms. Ayers has penned a wonderful read in this book encompassing well-written dialogue, a hero uncertain of whether he can honor his family obligations when he loves Senna; a heroine determined to do what's right for her son, even though she may end up with a broken heart; and a couple with so much chemistry between them that makes it hard for both to resist the other and hard to walk away from what the future may hold if they can find a way to be together. The way this story ended had me sad for the heroine because of her loss, but had me smiling because Marco definitely knows the right things to say to win Senna back and what he's doing to prove he wants nothing more than happy ever after with her is memorable. What a way to honor their families and help those that need it. I would recommend His Family of Convenience by Amy Ayers, if you enjoy the second chance romance trope or books by authors Virginia Nelson, Diane Alberts, Meg Benjamin or MK Meredith.
Review by Amber for Love Romance Book Blog
Senna had one unforgettable night with her boss on the last night of her internship. After that night, Marco disappeared for a year. Senna tried to contact him about their upcoming delivery, but with no results. Then one day he shows up unannounced at her workplace, wanting to talk to her. She is understandably wary after his silence, and doesn't know what to expect.
It turns out that Marco has spent the last year in Spain with his ailing father. While taking care of family responsibilities in Spain, he had no idea he had started his own family in Miami with Senna. Faced with this new knowledge, Marco convinces Senna to come with his new son to meet his family outside of Barcelona. Once there, Senna is overwhelmed with the Medina family and estate. When she is with Marco, she feels complete, but when the rest of his family are involved, it is chaos.
I would give this book 3.5 stars. I like how strong of a character Senna is. She speaks her mind and tries to do the best for her son, but won't let herself be taken advantage of. I was asked by the author for an honest review.
Marco Medina is rich beyond anyone's wildest dreams. He's also the heir to his family's empire, which he runs for a while now. One night with an intern changes his life forever, only he doesn't know it until more than a year later.Read more…
Senna Callas tried reaching Marco for months after finding out she's going to have his baby, but Marco just disappeared and no one forwarded him her messages. So he's enraged when he finds out.
Naturally, there's a betrothed involved, and a strict but loving family. All of which contribute to the plot.
Senna and Marco's story is sweet with a very happy ending. It was fun and quick to read. However, I'd have loved it if there was a little more weight to the plot. I felt it lacked emotional depth, and every little struggle that was hinted was solved pretty much the next paragraph. Overall the story is a nice little indulgence that gave me a break from more intense romances I'm reading, but was essentially a story that I'm not sure will stick with me.
Marco, Marco, Marco.... What can I say about Marco. He is true to his word. He is loyal to his family. He is strong, handsome, kind, and selfless. With the weight of his family's legacy on his shoulders he follows and archaic tradition to marry someone he doesn't love. But will that all be changed when Senna walks into his life?
Senna wanted more for herself and her Grandmother. Never knowing her father and her mother's early demise made her determined to do things different in her life. But one night of passion made her a carbon copy of her mother. But she still held her head high and made the most of the situation I loved her roommate April. What an amazing friend.
When Marco returns to her life, and the plans that he has, I was furious. I wanted to throw the book. How dare he! Then to not make Senna privy to the information that she needed to keep her head held high. It got under my skin.
But you could tell from the pages that Marco was more than the master plan. He was someone just following the rules and to appease his family. But what you found as the pages turn was an amazing man that had an internal battle and with the support of his family, he grew into someone we could all be proud of.
I really enjoyed this book. The pace was steady, the plot and twists were well written, but there were a few unanswered questions that I would love to know.
When Senna looks up at her next customer from behind the bar where she is pouring drinks, the last person she expects to see is Marco Medina, her ex boss at the company she interned at and the father of her child. She isn't happy to see him, after many attempts to reach him after finding out she's pregnant after their one night of passion, her anger still hard to mask. He ghosts out on her. Disappearing the next day. Marco has his big boy pants in a knot thinking that she's been hiding his son from him. Marco is obnoxious to a fault. He comes back into Senna's life and takes over.
Marco is first born son and heir apparent to his family fortune. His brother helps run the company that has been in the family for generations. Marco is Catalan. Back when he was a baby his father struck a deal with another wealthy family for his son and their daughter to marry. When Marco finds Senna he flies her and his son (yet another first born male heir) back to Spain to meet his family.
Marco is devious and some of the plans he's got cooking left me cold. Senna is overwhelmed at the family wealth. Her son has a nanny, she has a suite of rooms and Marco's sister Mila fills her closet with appropriate attire. Senna is totally out of her element, first having to face down his mother who meets her with cold regard and is still planning this wedding in front of her with the woman who Senna knows from working with Marco in Miami. A woman who kept her messages to Marco from him. A woman who has no interest in marrying Marco either. Yet another business transaction.
Despite the note about his brother keeping the birth from him too, Marcellus seems to understand that Marco needs to man up and not marry Brynn and put Senna and the baby first. Marco hides behind his "tradition" excuse. At the same time Marcellus finds some serious business discrepancies and he continues to follow that. Marc is much more a business man and leader than Marco. Pretty apparent from the story line, although unspoken.
So while Senna and little Max spend a short time with his family, she knows that Marco will be marrying Brynn, out of his sense of duty. Despite the fact that their chemistry is off the chart and Marco can't keep his hands to himself. Senna also knows, she's no ones mistress and she and her son deserve more. She makes a command decision after a chat with Marco to leave and go back to Miami.
Meanwhile things have happened at home, some of her financial pressure is gone thanks (or not) to Marco, but this does buy her time to find a real job using her business degree. Senna hasn't had the best upbringing and was raised by her grandmother. While Marco does move her Gran into a much better memory care facility, shortly after her return she faces that loss. Marco decides to come to Miami. That's all I'm saying. You have to read the book to find out what happens before he leaves Spain and when he comes to Miami. Lots of twists here.
I really liked Senna. I liked her better when she was angry but she still held her own against this medieval family and their nonsense. And she was a great Mom. Marco was tough to like for me. Some alpha MC's are rough but they have endearing qualities that balance out there rough edges. Marco was all about sex. Not that that's a bad thing, but seemed like that was his pat response to everything with Senna. I loved Marcellus and I am on edge waiting to see this man get his story. I'm kind of hoping it's with Amy, Senna's best friend... but bring it on! I'm ready for these off center Catalan's.
I did love the story, it's a quick and steamy read... some of that steam may be directed at Marco's bossy pants behavior... but go with it. You need this one. This one really has character and for a first shot book Amy does this one perfectly.

Totally enjoyed it. a unique plot. excellent writing. Thanks!
His Family of Convenience by Amy Ayers is Book 1 of The Medina Legacy Series.
Now this book has it all...the feels, oh my goodness the feels. The chemistry between Marco and Senna is off-the-charts and you can’t help but get caught up in their story as we watch this dynamic duo struggle to find their way to having it all. His Family of Convenience is one hot read with a second chance at love troupe that will suck you in real quick!
Please note that an ARC was generously provided in exchange for an honest review of which this is both honest and completely voluntary.
I really enjoyed this story. The characters were well crafted and well executed.
This is my first time reading this author and it won't happen again. I positively HATED this book and I hate to say tht because I respect authors and their talent and this book was written very well. I just positively hated every character in this story and no one more than the two leads.
This book has ALOT of cheating and I just hate that in the story. Mostly that was basis for my dislike for this book. The author tries to excuse it for when Senna does not know Marco is engaged and Marco claims to have broken his engagement off when they have a one night sex thing that creates Baby Max. BUT there is no excuse what happens 6 months later when Marco is 3 weeks from his wedding. Senna has met his fiancee and knows he is someone elses and yet she kisses and has sex with him. I did not care that they were not in love, he was someone elses man and she knows this and still sleeps with him over and over.
On top of that, Senna's mom did this exact thing and she did not respect her for it, and yet she does exactly the same thing. She becomes her mother and I lost any respect for her. Marco was very weak. He does what his family expects and he also cheats on his fiancee. I had no respect for him at all.
Anyways so no I hated this book and I am not sure how a book about a couple that cheats can be seen as romantic. I would not read this author again.
I love books that come out from Entangled Publishing, and this did not disappoint. This one makes you root for the underdog. Senna is the intern that gets seduced by the CEO, and becomes pregnant with his Marco is the CEO that fell for the intern, but because of family, never knows about the baby. Neither can forget what they had together, and until Marco walks into the bar that she works at, she thought she would never see him again.
Family has a way of changing the game
This arc was given to me by Netgalley for an honest review.
This is a stand alone book but I really hope to read about the other Medina men soon.
This is a second chance romance book about Marco, CEO of a huge family run corporation with strong family obligations ( like being betrothed since childhood), and Senna, former employee of Marco, currently working as a bartender, and the mother of the 6 month old Medina heir.
Marco and Senna are explosive together. The chemistry jumps right off the page. From start to finish it kept me intrigued.
His Family of Convenience, Amy Ayers
Review from Jeannie Zelos book reviews
Genre: Romance,
Sometimes I just want to read a simple love story, the alpha male type, with a bit of angst but always a HEA. Entangled are my go-to publishers for that. I've been reading a few heavy romances, and in-depth paranormal and I wanted something light so chose this one for last nights bedtime reading :-)
I loved the blurb, loved the secret baby idea ( but the failure rate for condoms in romances must be about 75%!!) The dilemma of Marco being ultra traditional, having an arranged marriage but now finding he's got a son too was intriguing. I was really hoping that would lead to some delicious scenes between senna and his wife to be.
Sadly though for me this stayed in the mundane end of romance, a barely adequate story, nothing special.
The line I was hoping between Senna and Marco's fiancee didn't come, she was at one moment icy and unapproachable and the next she was all freinds with Senna. There were things about Max that Marco discussed with her, promised he'd put to Senna and which would have provided some awesome fireworks, but instead they never happened? Why raise that topic anyway then? Not just once but twice -maybe three times it came up.
I also had her pegged as responsible for something else that came out but...nope. TBH I felt she was an odd character and I was unsure of exactly how she was supposed to be, what kind of person she was, if she was going ahead with the wedding through duty, wantied to marry Marco for power and prestige, name etc, or in love with him and determined to keep him for herself....then at other times she seems to not be looking forward to the wedding.
Very mixed person, and she could - IMO - have made such a difference to the story. Still, its perfect for other readers of course.
I didn't buy Marco's excuses for not knowing about the pregnancy, he might have not got a few messages passed on, and of course he was concerned for his sick father but all of them?
Why didn't his brother say something - Senna says she met him on one visit to the company to try to see Marco and he must have known she was pregnant. Not saying anything didn't really gel with the guy he seems to be later, though maybe he didn't know she'd been with Marco...I'll let him off, though you'd think it would have come up in just general conversation. " BTW Marco, did you know your former assistant is pregnant? I met her at the office recently" Y'know, how people just chat about stuff...
Senna, she's come so far with just the help of her flatmate, and she stands up to Marco at first. I'd have been outraged too at the heavy handed way he did things, been so angry at his bulldozer ways. She realises though that he didn't know, that her messages weren't passed on and gives him a pass. Well....her choice, I'd have hung on a bit more.
He could have made the effort to see she was OK after their night of passion, he's the sort of guy who's always doing six things at once. It would only take a phone call to one of his team to check on her.
Then when they're back at his family home and she's being treated appallingly by his mother he says nothing, walks off and leaves her at the family dinners and functions. If it wasn't for his sister Mila poor Senna would have been totally isolated.
After all that she just rolls over and says yes when he's in her bed, knowing he's to marry someone else in a few weeks. Senna, where's your self respect!!
Stars: 2.5/3 A shocker for me from Entangled, just about makes it into a 3 star novel, when I was expecting so much more.
