I loved this book from page one until the very end. A second chance romance with a bit of a mission impossible type feel. I couldn't put it down. Fabulous read!

If romantic suspense is your thing, this is a phenomenal book for you. This author was on point with everything from the action to the drama and even the suspense. It wasn't overly one or the other. Perfect blend. AND ... SEXY! (that's MY thing lol)

So well done with hitting all the marks!

An intriguing story that has a bit of everything, with romance and a heroine being chased by most if the alphabet agencies and the Russian Mob. Quick paced with enough twists and turns to keep the story fast paced and interesting.

This ARC book was complimentary, provided by the Publisher and NetGalley. I am voluntarily providing my honest review.

Interesting concept. Mac and Vic work for different government agencies and have a relationship that is on and off again.

These two characters each have some emotional issues. Yet they they love each other but lack of communication is a huge problem that causes a break up. A case brings them back together with tons of suspense and action. I like the fact that everything isn't what it appears to be. I also like the way the author kept my attention from start to finish. Action and suspense aren't my usual genre of book but I am very pleased that I gave this one a try.

These two characters are so much more than I could have hoped for.
Yes, I would recommend it to a variety of readers.

ic Walker left the spy game and his security firm to figure out what he wanted it life. But his leave had more to do with MacKenzie Donovan, they fought and he fled. Now MacKenzie Donovan finds him and things get interesting because Mac isn't just Vic's business partner but ex-lover.

Mac hates asking people for help, especially Vic her ex-lover and business partner. But she is over her head and this case is going south and fast. She has the CIA, FBI and the Russian mob all out for blood. Will these two have a chance to rekindle their romance with their lives on the line? Will this case finally get these two to admit how they feel about each other? When there is a chance you might not make it out alive, you realize how you really feel.

I really enjoyed this book. There were many twists and turns and I was surprised by who was behind this whole thing. It was a good spy type book plus had some great romance too. I loved Mac and Vic and wanted to yell at them because they just needed to express their feelings. This is hard for both of them leading them to questioning what the other one is thinking and leads to misunderstanding. I liked the other characters as well and felt there was a story with each of them. It was an interesting book and story. I enjoyed reading it and would recommend it to anyone who loves a good spy book.

Former CIA operative Vic Walker decides to take some time off from his security firm in order to figure out what he wants out of life. The peace and quiet he was expecting doesn't last when his former business partner and ex-lover like MacKenzie Donovan shows up. She crashes back into Vic’s life with the CIA, the Russian Mob, and the FBI, on her tail after a job goes south. But even as old feelings rise to the surface while they’re busy dodging bullets, the authorities, and mobsters, they’ll need to get out alive before they can have a second chance at love.

The Boss is a story of second chance lovers who also happen to be former business partners. Vic was taking a break from his firm when Mac came back into his life and drug him back into the spy game. She's landed in some majorly hot water and needs Vic's help to get out. They had a very on/off relationship and those feelings start to return but they need to make it through all of this before they can lead anywhere.

I really enjoyed this story! It is full of action, suspense, and romance. I've been on a major romantic suspense kick lately and this one was a great read. I'd highly recommend it.

I finished this book a while ago, but I had take a hiatus from reviewing for a bit. Unfortunately, something in life happened that I had to take some personal time away from the blog for a bit.

I’m back though and ready to review The Boss is the first book I’ve read from the lovely Melissa Schroeder and it definitely won’t be my last. I love books like The Boss, where there’s a kick-butt female character and the main characters have a lot of tension between them. MacKenzie Donovan and Vic Walker used to be with each other. Vic walked away though and never came back because he wanted to find out what he wanted to do in life. He didn’t want anything to do with the CIA anymore and with the business his ex-girlfriend was apart of. Unfortunately, things have gone haywire and Mac needs assistance from her ex. Vic though is what I would consider someone that just can’t resist the temptation of his ex-girlfriend. Even though they broke terms with each other there still that tension between the two.

Melissa has the Vic and Mac trying to protect a hacker that has the Russians out to get her. It’s up to them to find out why and also find out what the hacker was doing to make the Russians come after her. It’s a whirl wind of craziness in this book, which is why I had a hard time putting it down. There’s also the fact that the FBI, and CIA are all mentioned in this book and the part of hacking too. I’m a computer geek, so I enjoy stories that dive into something I enjoy. One moment you have Vic and Mac battling their love for each other and the next you have action from the drama of the story.

There’s also the secondary characters that I enjoyed getting to know in the story. You don’t just get Mac and Vic’s POV in the story. You get others too, which I found interesting.

I give this book 4 stars and look forward to reading even more from Melissa Schroeder soon.

If you’re looking for a Romantic Suspense with lots of action, drama, and even some tension you’ll enjoy The Boss.

Melissa Schroeder rocks romantic suspense!

Mac is a tenacious, a force all her own and resourceful woman. Vic is a total alpha man. He's got the smarts and all the looks, but can't seem to get his mouth and his brain to work together. Vic and Mac are combustible in every way. Former lovers, business partners and each other's match in every way. Both alphas, hard headed and willing to do what it takes to get the job done. Mac and Vic tangle each emotions like no other. The trust they share is an oddity is the spy game. The passion they share just adds fuel to the fire leaving them breathless to one another.

Melissa Schroeder’s The Boss is a fast paced, well written, character driven romantic suspense. I was entertained from beginning to end. The Boss keeps readers on their toes with fun and equine characters, lots of action and a nice plot twist or two. I love second chance stories. Vic and Mac put each other through the ringer and still want each other. Now to make it work. I definitely recommend The Boss to anyone who loves a fast-paced romantic suspense.

This story features Vic Walker and MacKenzie Donovan. The story line was great but a tiny bit confusing. Between all the government officials, alphabet agencies and the Russians, the story line kind of bounce around a lot. The one thing that stayed the course was the romance between Vic and Mac. In the end...PLOT TWIST!

Great characters! I'm interested to see if we'll find out what happens to the other members of WD & Associates.

The Boss is a second-chance romance between two ex-lovers, ex-spies, and ex-business partners. Mac and Vic met six years ago during one of their government assignments. Mac was MI6 while Vic was CIA. Their relationship has been of ups and downs, of on and off agains…so before this story starts, about6 months before, Vic walks away from Mac and their security business, and the couple ends things- it seems for good. Fast forward to now, Mac comes sneaking into Vic’s home, which is a cabin, and asks for help. The company's last assignment was with the NSA and things went south FAST. The trouble started when Rock, Vic's best friend, saw a girl almost get kidnapped during their assignment. He ended up shooting the target and grabbing the girl. No one knows whose after them or the girl.
There are so many questions blooming plus throw in the added attraction of Mac and Vic. This really is a story about how they got back together and what went haywire in the past that caused them to go so far off track before. There is a lot going on, which is great because if you like mystery, suspense and romance, then you will love this story. I loved the secondary characters which helped to liven up the plot. You will not go wrong with this 2nd chance romance.

Former lovers, former partners in law, former keeper, former everything. One is tired of the game. The other one just trying to survive the game. One needs a break, the other needs help. This action filled, drama intense, suspenseful twist, second chance at more than just lovers read gave me excitement. How many reads can you say have CIA, FBI, and the mob all in one read and all after the same person but for slightly different reasons? Or are they all after the same thing for the same reason? Read this one to give yourself a bit of a walk on the dangerous side of spies, mobsters, agents, partners, and lovers.

I loved this book from page one till the very end. I adored the fact that the hero and heroine were older and still trying to figure out love. This second chance romance/romantic suspense kept me rooting for Mac and Vic and wondering just what the bad guys’ motivation was. I’ll admit I figured it out who the bad guy was as soon as we met him but I was blown away by the ending. This was a hell of a story and I wouldn’t mind watching Rock & Tessa get their HEA and Jay needs a love story too. Such a fantastic book with lots lots more to come which I can't wait as I do love this author and her books never been disappointed once so I will totally recommend this book and author to everyone you have to read her books you won't be disappointed I promise. I left review on Amazon.uk

This was just an okay read for me. I kept putting it down to read something else more interesting. It didn't get really interesting until after the 60% mark.

Vic and Mac are former on-again, off-again lovers and business partners, but haven't seen each other in six months after a breakup. They're brought back together when Mac seeks out Vic's help with the case of a computer hacker who was almost kidnapped by Russians, but that was thwarted by Rock, a member of their team.

Right from the start, we have a lot of names thrown at us and it's so difficult to keep up with who is who (especially the Russian players) and how they all fit together. I usually don't have an issue trying to keep up with characters, even if there are a lot in a book, but this one just wasn't written in a way that it was easy to follow all the time. It seemed every government agency possible was involved with the plot, as well as Russian mobsters and other diplomats...just way too much going on for one book and it wasn't necessary.

The romance was just okay for me. I didn't really feel connected with the characters, didn't see the 'rekindled' love that was expected. They loved each other before the book, still loved each other at the end, but there wasn't really much romancing going on in between - just bickering, self-blame and a focus on the case. The book tended to focus on the suspense part. However, the suspense was lacking for most of the book and didn't really pick up until the last 10-20% of the book. I did find myself not wanting to put the book down though during this part, so it kept me intrigued, even if it was predictable. I wish we also had more info on Mac's dad (why he was such a bad person) and what happened later months down the road - an epilogue would have been nice.

Honestly, I was more interested in Rock/Tessa or Jay/Millie since those characters were great additions and seemed to be attracted to each other. I hope they're in future books. If not, it would be a shame.

When I wanted to read this one I was in the mood for adventure with the heat with this author delivering that. It centers around Vic and MacKenzie or Mac who are both in the business of getting the bad guy. While he wants a break from it all life has a way of changing up things pretty fast. Mac is quite the character with her having you holding your breath once in a while. Since a second chance has been thrown in here it is interesting to read how it goes down ripe with the action. Trouble needs to be disposed of with it also happening with a dose of heat that you are given one exhilarating read.
