Erik and Olivia have a one night stand, and he wants more. But then he finds out she is the therapist he is supposed to see in order to keep his job. Can he keep his job and Olivia?
She has her own issues, so will she give him a chance?
A great read - hoping this is a series!

Kind to the core!
In a great hero book from author Gina L. Maxwell we meet all around incredible man Lieutenant Grady. He’s served his country on many overseas deployments and continues to serve with his men as a Lieutenant of a fire station. He’s struggling after an incident that starts giving him flashbacks and losses of time he sent to see a therapist and put on administrative leave. That’s where beautiful doctor Olivia Jones comes in but before their first meeting a chance encounter put them together for a beautiful night. While he can no longer see him Professionally he definitely plans to see her on personal level.
I have only one complaint and for me it’s a very big one. We were introduced to his team. Men who have stories and trauma of their own. It looked like this was going to pan out as a series. Unfortunately this is a rerelease from March of 2017 so that kills the hope for more. What HUGE missed opportunity, the character development was amazing and so could have been the series.
Authors Blurb: One sexy fireman. Three dates. And a whole lot of heat...
A one-night stand is just what Olivia Jones needs to transition back into the dating world after a two-year hiatus. To hell with being prim and proper. It’s not like she’ll ever see him again. For just one night, she’s going to shed her inhibitions and let this sexy-as-hell man bring all her fantasies to life.
When a twist of fate throws Boston firefighter Erik Grady together with the woman who gave him the hottest night of his life, he has only one mission: to charm her into giving him a chance and show her there's more between them than just the heat they shared in that hotel room.
Helping each other heal from their pasts might be playing with fire, but a desire this strong is worth getting burned.
This book has everything I love in a book. Then you add that it's beautifully written and believable. It is easily a five star read. Written in dual POV my personal favorite this story flows so incredibly well that the next thing you know your 80% into the book and loving every second of it. The believable way the characters interact is perfect. Run, Hop, Jump or use your (1 click) finger to do whatever you have to do and get this amazing book. It'll break your heart, you'll want to scream with frustration and it'll let you discover that love just might conquer all. The chemistry is steamy and sweet and oh so romantic.
Thanks Netgally for letting me read and review.📚💕
I'm definitely the type of woman who would rather have a man buy her books at a bookstore instead of drinks at a bar, but Gina L. Maxwell's Hot for the Fireman has me reconsidering some things....
Career soldier turned rescue firefighter Erik "Wolf" Grady is suffering from panic attacks and PTSD, which are starting to impact his job. Due to this, he is being mandated to go on sabbatical and attend therapy sessions before he can come back to work. Deciding he also is done with meaningless one-night stands, he decides to ditch the bar crowd and make drinking a solitary activity. Upon entering the liquor store to buy his whiskey, he happens upon a private conversation of Olivia Jones's about her sex-life, or lack thereof. When she forgets her purse and locks her keys in her car, Erik plays the role of hero and purchases her wine for her and breaks her into her car. Though he tries to walk away, he can't help but feel strongly attracted to Olivia and want to break his new rule of no one-night stands.
Olivia Jones is a widow who is not having luck in the dating scene. Hot off the heels of another dating disaster, having this ruggedly handsome knight-in-shining armor proposition her for a night of no-strings-attached fun seems like just the ticket to getting out of her rut and back on with her life. What could possibly go wrong?
Did I mention she turns out to be his therapist?
What I liked about the book:
1. GODDAMN, HIS DIRTY TALK IS ON F*CKING POINT! Something about his alpha personality, his dirty talk, and his dominance in the bedroom had my heart rate completely fluttering out of control!
2. Her internal monologue is so funny and comes out at the worst times!!! She is also hilarious with not knowing how to respond to any of his pick up lines! I mean, it makes total sense that she married the guy she got into a serious relationship with freshman year of college and hasn't dated much since he died.
3. It’s legitimately funny and heartwarming, showing the best pieces of what a romance novel is supposed to be, and including a little dirty talk in the process.
4. This book does SUCH A GOOD JOB of showing the ins and outs of a trusting dom/sub sexual relationship. With submission you need trust. Trust that the person you are submitting to will take care of you, trust that they have your best interest at heart, that they will satisfy your needs, wants, and desires, and trust that at the end of the day you won’t ever be forced to submit. This booked showed the beautiful way that can be accomplished.
5. I love that we got a bonus love story with Dozer and Angie!
6. This is the first ex-military MC I've read who we got to read a scene about a PTSD episode. Usually we hear about this, but it isn't really represented other than glazed over. This book definitely showed the complex behaviors of an episode, both for the MC and his loved ones.
What didn't work for me:
1. Why are there so many people in this book if there are no spin offs??? I want to read about Smoke so bad!!!
2. The fact that there was no closure on the Dozer/Angie situation very much upsets me.
Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for the chance to read this book. I am voluntarily leaving my review.
4 scorching hot stars!
Gina is an automatic one click author for me. Strong characters, lots of angst, steamy scenes. You'll need an air conditioning unit on high when reading this book! Can't wait the read the stories of the other members of the Boston Fire Department. I even purchased this book for my library.
3 Sexy sweet Stars!
It's been forever since I read a Gina Maxwell and book and I was happy to dip into her stories once again. This time around we have Erik 'Wolf' Grady and Olivia/Livvie Jones. Erik is suffering from PTSD and is faced to deal with it, if he wants to keep his job. Olivia is a psychologist and has shit luck with men. When she meets a random stranger to help her with her men issue she hesitantly agrees but when their worlds collide is when things heat up.
Olivia/Livvie and Erik lit up the sheets mostly because Erik is hot and knows what he's doing. I did like the story but it was very predictable which lost some of its oomph. However, I did like it enough to finish I just didn't love it.
However, after meeting Dozer/Gavin & Angelina I now can't wait for their story.
"Moving on to what?" Mouth curled in a wicked grin, he said, "Our sequel."
This is my first read by Gina Maxwell. The book was very well written! Erik (Wolf) Grady is a wonderful and imperfect hero. My favorite kind. With his PTSD rearing it's ugly head, he happens to meet the right woman and (perhaps) the right time. Olivia is smart, beautiful and opens her heart to Erik.
The chemistry between them are great. The sex scenes are hot. And the serious issues are written sincerely. Great story!
Oh, how I adored reading Hot for the Fireman! It was the first book in Gina L. Maxwell’s new fireman series! It was a much anticipated read for me because I feel like I waited forever (slight exaggeration) for this book to be released. I loved the storyline because a one night stand with your soon to be PTSD psychologist/soon to be patient is genius. One word to describe Hot for the Fireman is it was simply smoking! Erik and Olivia burn up the pages while growing an unbreakable bond. I laughed, crying, and blushed while reading this book. I can’t wait for more to come from this series because the secondary characters were just as captivation as Erik and Olivia. It was an easy 5 stars for me and I would totally recommend this book.
Whoa, this book was such a funny but sexy story. Books that have firemen in them are my fave anyway so this story made my day. Great characters and a story that gets you quickly involved.
WOW! This scorching story features ex-army and current firefighter, Erik "Wolf" Grady and PTSD psychologist, Olivia Jones. The chemistry between these two was OFF-THE-CHARTS HOT! Wolf is sexy, confident and goes after what he wants and he wants more of Olivia. She fights the attraction but with a man like Wolf it's impossible. Especially because a couple days later they find out she's actually going to be his therapist.
This author did an amazing job at writing this book. The entire book was 5-Star great but the PTSD scene was so real and emotional for me as a reader. I was even a little freaked out, like it was happening in front of me. Awesome job Gina Maxwell! My heart was breaking for both Erik and Olivia.
I loved reading this well written book and getting to know all the great characters. I definitely look forward to reading more, especially Dozer and Angie's story.
4.5 Stars
I'm already in love with Gina Maxwell's new Boston Heat Series. Olivia is girl after my own heart. She has cats and is obsessed with ice cream. This book has the perfect combination of heart, humor, and heat. It brings awareness to PTSD. The hero Erik suffers from it and we see the effects it has on someone. Speaking of Erik he is one yummy fireman. I loved the way he was with Olivia. The characters are well written and you get sucked right into the story. I liked the setup for a potential book in the series.
A series about current firefighters and former military heroes, who wouldn't want to read that!!
Lieutenant Erik Grady, after a recent fire that re-awakes his PTSD from his military days is making his current job difficult....Erik has always felt responsible for the death of the men in his team when he was in active duty and firefighting had usually made it easier to focus on the now but the panic attacks and nightmares are leaving him with nothing but pain and feeling out of control. His boss decides that he should take leave from active duty till the therapists declares him fit, Erik just never counted on the therapist being the woman he can't stop thinking about.
Olivia Jones is a therapist, her speciality being PTSD cases. Olivia has finally decided to get back in the dating game after the urging of her friends following the death of her husband two years ago. She, like Erik is struggling. After having a miserable time with the dates she had, Olivia thinks it would be best to just stop which is when she meets a certain man who not only helps her out when she's in distress but makes her feel alive for the first time in years.
Erik and Olivia first meet ends up them having a fabulous one-night stand that Erik wishes could have been a bit more. They had no idea that they were to be patients/therapist the coming Monday so Olivia finding a certain Lieutenant at her door for her appointment shakes her up. Convincing Olivia to get on three dates with him, takes a little manipulation and a whole lot of charm.
"I'm so in love with you, sometimes I can scarcely breathe"...."Then I'll breathe for the both of us" ~Olivia and Erik
Olivia and Erik together were adorable, the chemistry the had was explosive from the start and that was still present even as their relationship developed and they fell in love. I liked the fact we get to see them both struggle with their own issues and come out stronger and together.
I liked the fact that the author didn't make Olivia be his therapist just to make their story forbidden etc because this way it gave the story more depth and allowed Erik to be in therapy with someone who could understand what he want through as well talk about Olivia. His PTSD is a big part of the book because of how it only effects his job but also his relationship with Olivia. I believe it was done well and we get to see Olivia be amazing
Quibbles:
I just never understood why Olivia was made out to be insecure about certain things and it never got explained why, certainly not with what we got know of her life. It was a part of her character that I never understood.
I really enjoyed this book; there's humour, romance, angst and a great couple to root for! I'm pretty excited to read the next book in the series because we get a hint/POV of the other couple that also seem to share sparking chemistry with history of heartbreak and that promises quite a lot of angst.
Heat and heart….
Thank goodness I didn’t read this in the summer – it might have singed something! Though having to call firefighters like Erik and his crew would be the highlight of my day. Week… month… year!
Erik is ex-ranger and all fireman as he finds a new home at a Boston fire hall with members of his old Army battalion. He loves his work and the men he calls brother, family. All of a sudden though he is no longer on the front lines but forced to deal with the PTSD he can’t shake. When an unexpected, uber-sexy encounter then spills into his recovery, well, Erik knows how to get what he wants. And he wants her.
“From the first moment our eyes met, I craved you like a new addiction I couldn’t shake.”
Olivia Jones is in recovery mode too. The moment she gives up on a less than stellar run back into the dating scene, Erik is there to offer exactly what she needs. Even if she fights it, sort of, mostly…
“Might as well let him tie me to his bed and tattoo ‘sex slave’ on my ass.”
Oh my… The sexy banter, the incredibly passionate sex and, yes, the non-sexy and provocative texting that inhabits so much of Erik and Olivia’s relationship. They fit. When one needs the other they seem to know exactly what is needed –whether a supportive hand or that same hand giving a push. Olivia is almost shy in their encounters until Erik finds the right words, the right way to coax her out of her shell. Together, they are combustible! Hmm, good thing he knows how to use his hose! (I know, but he’s a FIREMAN!)
If that wasn’t enough there are friends and family to embrace as well. Angie, Olivia’s bestie, was all kinds of spunky and hilarious. As only true besties can be.
“…he was answering a call about a gas leak and busted in to find you collapsed on the floor and not breathing, so head to check you for a pulse… in your vagina.”
Hot and spicy, this is just the start to what I hope is a long, long series. I suspect Angie and Dozer may be next and I cannot wait! -Diane, 4.5 stars
Hot for the Fireman brings us, Army Ranger, now Boston Firefighter Erik Grady. He loves his jobs but he is given an ultimatum, therapy or a desk job. Little did he know when he accepted therapy the psychologist would be the sexy Olivia Jones. Now he is determined to make her internal fire combust and admit to the undeniable chemistry between them. I really loved these characters and storyline is engulfing I look forward to reading more!
This book has definitely made me hot for the fireman.. one in particular - Erik "Wolf" Grady. He's a former Army Ranger who is going through some tough times right now and his chief has put his job on hold until he can get his head cleared out. He's assigned an appointment with Dr. Jones - who now known to him, he just spent an incredibly HOT night with and he's craving more. As he tries to weasel his way into her heart and panties, she's trying to fight him every step of the way. Well.. For a little while. They both have demons they are battling and that brings just enough drama to the story to keep it from being just about intensely incredibly Gina Maxwell sex.
I loved everything about this book.. beginning to end. It's well written with fully developed characters who are down to earth and relatable. The humor and back and forth between them is something that would actually play out in real life, not just in a novel setting. This author is quickly becoming one of my favorites.
A definite 5 star hit!!
I seem to not resist a guy in a uniform. I also do like to read this author on occasion so when the two were combined wowzer I snapped right into this one. This one centers around Erik and Olivia who will be so entertaining. Erik is stubborn with having to do something he does not really want to do with on top of that with Olivia. The magnetizim between these two is off the charts with us the reader following right behind them as not to miss one bit. Hey not like they are strangers either kinda hah. Personalities that shine through in a story like this have you put in place with this author giving us some fantastic banter and red hot when she could. I do so love to read each authors story on how they handle PTSD and this one is delivered. They are not the only ones that will tell the story with this being one fantastic read to get through any day or night.
This is Book 1 in a new series by Gina L. Maxwell and I really enjoyed it! This read was entertaining, fun and very hot! Erik and Olivia have such a great chemistry that they made a scorching read!
Erik is just perfect. Sexy, hard working, alpha. A great character! And Olivia is sweet, sassy, independent.
Second characters are also very interesting and I am sure that the following stories will be as wonderful as this one!
I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book provided by the publisher via NetGalley
Are you in the mood for a really hot really sexy relationship driven romance? Look no further, Hot for the Fireman will satisfy your every need.
Erik is a former Ranger turned firefighter. A recent call triggered some memories from his last tour and he was diagnosed with PTSD. In order to get back on active duty he needs to attend therapy. Talk about a crappy day.
Olivia re-entered the dating scene only to be faced with failed date after failed date. After one of the worst ones, she decided to close up shop. Human company is overrated anyway and she has her two lovely feline companions. But a stop for wine turns into the perfect crappy ending to a very crappy night when she finds herself locked out of her car with her purse inside.
Luckily one hunky firefighter is up to save the night…in more ways than one. Both Erik and Olivia are insanely attracted to one another and they agree upon one night of no strings crazy hot sex, no names allowed. So Wolf and Livvie get a hotel room and… wow.
When Olivia turns out to be no other than Erik’s therapist all bets are off, as he recognizes he didn’t get enough of the sexy woman and he won’t accept no for an answer.
“Her rose-petals-and-sunshine scent wreathed around his face and tested his control. If a woman’s body emitted pheromones, hers were on some serious steroids. Like next-level shit, because it took every ounce of his control to not take her up against the glass until they both collapsed.”
I really liked how the Doctor/Patient dilemma was handled, as Olivia absolutely refuses to be his doctor. Though the only way to make that happen is agreeing to go out with him. As their connection deepens, not only her own past will get in their way but Erik’s struggle with PTSD threatens to be too much.
I loved both Erick and Olivia. She was one tough cookie, stronger than anyone gave her credit for and her passion to help people suffering from different forms of PTSD was inspiring. She was caring, smart and funny and she gave as good as she got. I also liked how she re-discovered her inner woman and what Erik made her feel.
“Might as well let him tie me to his bed and tattoo ‘sex slave’ on my ass.”
Erik is every woman’s firefighter dream come true. Hotter than the fires he fights, he took one look at Olivia and decided he wanted to have her, and the more he got to know her the more he liked what he got. He was relentless in his pursuit and I liked his openness to reflect on his feelings for her, even when they were new to him or unexpected. He was dominant, bossy, knew how to dirty talk and definitely had the moves.
“We have some business to take care of.”
“And what kind of business would that be?”
“The kind where I make sure you understand, once and for all, just how serious I am about being with you. The kind that’ll leave your ass pink and your pussy wet, and that’s only the foreplay.”
I must confess that when everything was mostly smooth sailing I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop. And it does drop, and I wish I could say I was angry when it happened, but for me, their whole relationship and the handling of their issues was so well done that I couldn’t help but be understanding of what was happening.
Hot for the Fireman is definitely a scorching hot read, with enough sexy shenanigans to make up for the lack of action some readers *cough*Spice*cough* might need. And while this is a thoroughly relationship driven romance it didn’t feel slow to me at any point. I really enjoyed this story and with lots of hunky ex-military firemen left single in the Rescue 2 company of the BFD I can’t wait to see who gets their story next…though I have a feeling it might be Dozer and Angie…
Ex-Army Ranger Erik Grady lives for the job. So when his chief at the Boston Fire Department offers him two choices—mandated therapy for supposed PTSD or a permanent desk job at the station, he reluctantly agrees to see a shrink. Only this doctor is unlike anything he expected. Female and curved in all the right places? Check. Hotter than a four-alarm fire? Check. The kind of woman that can heat his blood in and out of bed? Check, check. And oh, yeah, he just happens to have first hand experience...
Of all the men to walk into psychologist Olivia Jones' office, why did it have to be him? Her one-night stand isn't playing by the rules of just. One. Night. She’s had her heart broken in the past, and no way is she going there again. And now he's blackmailing her into three dates? Well, if that's what it takes to make him see a different therapist, fine. She can handle it. So what if the chemistry between them is combustible? She's a professional, damn it. She'll date Mr. I'm Too Sexy For My Bunker Pants. But it won’t end in the fun he expects.
It’s time to see how much heat this fireman can take...
Wait. A. Minute. WTF? She's a therapist and he's her patient???? I can tell you, in all honesty, that this is FICTION for a reason....because it doesn't happen. Your one-night stand doesn't show up in your office to have therapy and if he does then you just tell him to mosey along. You don't let him blackmail you. I run a psychology practice and we don't hop into bed with our patients - it's unethical...it's not done. It's not worth losing your license over. Did I say it's unethical? I'm all for suspending reality in a book because it's...well fiction, but this just chapped my hide. For starters, it's taking advantage of someone who is already in a precarious position. A therapist is in a position of "authority" if you will. They are supposed to be your "safe place" and your place of refuge, not your place of sexy time.
Now, I'm really at a loss of how to write this review without sounding like a harpy on a soapbox. So, I'll just tell you. At 15% they are on top of each other - Really???? How many question marks can I add? I know that Olivia went out with him for 3 dates because he's blackmailing her in the book, but...no! He's your patient!! I think the therapist needs a therapist. It doesn't take a degree in Psychology to say the therapist needs a therapist and the only reason that Gina gets 2 stars is because she was spot on in the way PTSD attacks patients. Also, because I'm sure there are therapists out there that fall for their patients. However, for the most part, it isn't after one visit and they don't make bets with their patients because it isn't therapeutic. My head is exploding writing this review...like popping off. I had to finish the book because the whole time I'm sitting there thinking "seriously, I can't put it down and not see the happily ever after on this train." So, imagine with me five years down the road, the therapist has another patient who's a sexy cop and wants to rehabilitate him....Hey, it's another book idea, y'all!! Okay, I just can't...like keep going. So, I'll just end it here. If you love this type of book, you'll buy it and if you don't...don't.
I was given a copy of this ARC from the publisher on NetGalley for an honest review. All of the above comments are my express opinions and no one else's.
