I really liked this fun and fast paced historical read. Nash has decided it’s time to find the perfect wife, however Lady Arabella ruins his plans. I enjoyed this entertaining read. The sparks fly between Nash and Arabella even though they are very different people. The story has plenty of emotion and drama to keep you hooked from beginning to end.
I absolutely loved this story. Between Arabella and Nash, I'm not sure who I liked more. Nash with his uptight and sometimes dirty behaviour or Arabella and her madcap adventures. Great storyline and well rounded characters suck you in and hold you spellbound until the last page. It was so well written that I was even able to overlook the use of the word moist. For me that's saying something.
Didn't love it; didn't hate it. There was really no substance to the story. The characters have potential but for the most part there was nothing extraordinary about them. I did like the animal rescue aspect of the story. But don't expect any mystery or suspense. There's no real conflict-just two people who accidentally end up having to marry each other and then have to learn to get along with each other. There's no great chemistry or sexual tension. There are a few sexy scenes which were probably the most entertaining bits of the story. This is just really good if you're looking for a quick, mindless, no fuss read.
London - 1820
Lady Arabella Danvers is in shock as the plump Earl of Pembroke prepares to propose to her. Thankfully, Lady Elizabeth and her cousin, Miss Caroline Davis, drop in to visit her which saves her. Arabella’s mother, Lady Melrose, keeps pressuring her to spend time with the odious Earl. His is the third proposal she has turned down.
Due to the illness and death of her father, Arabella has had just one season. As she is an only child, the estate has passed to a distant relative who is to arrive before long and become the new Earl of Melrose.
Arabella's prime interest is caring for injured animals that she finds and when they have healed, she finds homes for them.
Nash, the Earl of Clarendon, encounters Arabella in the park and begs him to rescue a cat that is stuck up a tree. Despite his allergies to them, he agrees. By the time he returns the cat to her, he is totally disheveled and irritated.
When they see one another again at a ball, they both accidentally met in a darkened library where they are found in an innocent but compromising position which prompts Nash to offer for Arabella’s hand. Neither of them wants to marry even though Nash had been ready to propose to a wealthy heiress whose money would fill his empty coffers. Arabella’s late father had spent money from her dowry leaving it rather lean. But, marry they do and to find they butt heads more often than not.
Can a marriage of people with different views on life be a success? Can they learn to give and take?
This is a good story but I found it hard to like Nash as he is a hard-headed, demanding person who tends to boss Arabella. She, on the the other hand, has been fairly sheltered during her life and is a bit on the immature side. However, I’m sure readers will enjoy the story as they stumble through the early days of their marriage.

'Marrying the Wrong Earl' by Callie Hutton is book Two in the "Lords and Ladies in Love" series. This is the story of Lady Arabella Danvers and Nash, the Earl of Clarendon. I have read the previous book 'Seducing the Marquess" but feel this can easily be a standalone book. With that said I will updated you on the characters in this book: Nash is the brother of Lady Eugenia Devon who was the Leading Lady in the first book and Arabella was a friend of Eugenia. But Nash and Arabella didn't really mix much at all in that first book.
Arabella mother is trying to marry her off quickly due to the fact that her husband...Arabella's father died and left them with little to no money. Arabella doesn't know this part but does know her mother is trying to marry her off fast. But Arabella isn't looking for marriage as quickly and turns the suitors away. The town thinks she is a Odd Girl because she likes to take care of sick animals. Arabella knows it will be hard to find someone will to take on her odd behavior.
Nash is the proper Lord who is looking for a biddable wife who is young and can be 'trained' in her duties as his wife. Nash has Lady Grace in mind for that title. Although he doesn't love her he feels she can be brought up to scratch with what he wants.
When an odd encounter with Arabella where he is forced to help her get her cat down from a tree he quickly knows she isn't the type of women he would want as a wife.
Arabella knows too that Nash is not the one for her too.
But an accidentally set up might have them forced to think something else!
This was another Great Story by Ms. Hutton! Loved it!

I had hopes for an interesting twist with the heroine being such an animal lover, but found I couldn't warm to her romantic partner because he was so NOT fond of them at all. An interesting premise but a bit of formulaic in the treatment.
Lady Arabella Danvers is happy with her life just the way it is, but her mother has her own ideas. Her mother decides to take things into her own hands and Lady Arabella ends up engaged to her mother’s unintended victim, the brother of one of her friends, Nash, the Earl of Clarendon. Nash finds Lady Arabella very attractive, but when they meet in the park he discovered Arabella’s unconventional habit of picking up stray animals and nursing them back to health, it’s very un-lady like behavior that he strongly disapproves of. Nash has decided it’s time to marry, he’s picked out the perfect Countess, but the unsuspecting Lady Arabella has stumbled into his life at the wrong time, and in the wrong place. Nash cannot see a Lady Arabella ruined so he does the only thing possible and says they are engaged. They have chemistry right from the start, they butt heads over proper decorum and society rules. It takes them time to realize their love and to see what’s really important in their lives and that their love is unconditional.
This is my honest review from the complimentary copy I received.
Publisher's Description:
Lady Arabella Danvers is happy with her life just the way it is. She is free to be herself and take care of broken and abandoned animals. Her mother is desperate for her to marry, and has decided to take things into her own hands. There is just one little problem with her plan.
Nash, the Earl of Clarendon has determined it is time to take a wife. He has selected a woman to whom he intends to propose. However, the annoying Lady Arabella has stumbled into his life at the wrong time, and in the wrong place.
But he of all people should know if Lady Arabella is involved, plans will go awry.
My Thoughts:
This rather comical at times story dragged me in from the opening chapter. It, however made me lose interest at one point shortly after the couple was married. It just didn't have that same appeal but did regain it's appealing nature later on in the book.
Lady Arabella Danvers is happy with her life as it is and has no wish for a husband. Her mother has other ideas, even going to the extreme of pairing her with men old enough to be her grandfather.
Nash, the Earl of Clarendon meets her under auspicious circumstances. Arabella is on her way to deliver one of her rescued cats to a new home when the feline escapes. Nash helps her to retrieve the cat and ends up none the worse for wear in the process.
I am an animal lover and the fact that Lady Arabella was not only an animal lover but a rescuer of animals in need kept my interest.
Our hero however made me quite angry with him at times because of his insistence that she was
being selfish by keeping and tending the injuries of said animals and after their marriage not acting the part of his countess.
Will these two apparent adversaries find their way to their Happily Ever After or will they part due to their differences?
As I said, I did like this book but had problems with the storyline keeping my interest.
I gave this book 3.75 of 5 stars for storyline and characterization and a sensual rating of 2.5 of 5 flames.
I received a complimentary digital ARC of this title from the publisher via NetGalley to read. This in no way affected my opinion of this title and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
lady arabella danvers just wants to care for her wounded animals. her mother thinks it's past time she marry, and she has just the gentleman in mind. but the title of this book is marrying the wrong earl, and it's nash, the earl of clarendon, who gets caught in lady arabella's mother's trap. unfortunately, he was not the intended target.
at first arabella resists the idea of marrying nash. they don't know each other at all. she's not interested in being a pillar of society. she wants to care for her animals and nash is horribly allergic to cats. he also doesn't listen when she tells him their marriage isn't going to happen. he commands instead of asks. and this makes her dig in her heels.
but digging in her heels gets her nowhere. and when it's apparent that nash is right and their only alternative is to get married she goes along with it. she doesn't really have a choice. nash has no choice either, but he's definitely more gracious about the sudden alteration of his plans. he just wishes his estate weren't in such arrears and that he hadn't been looking to marry an heiress, which arabella isn't. he had expected a biddable society wife and arabella is not that.
the thing is, she is something more. when nash is around her he feels, well, invigorated. she challenges him in ways he doesn't expect, and while he doesn't always handle this gracefully he also takes his role as her champion seriously. however commanding and occasionally sexist nash might be, he clearly respects arabella's position in his life. he may not love her at first, but the chemistry between them and the more he sees of her innate goodness, it's hard to resist being charmed.
and this story is charming above all things. we get to really see how arabella and nash build a marriage that is strong and able to resist the challenges life throws at it.

The Social Outcast and the Proper Earl 4.5*
Lady Arabella Danvers is in no hurry to get married and with her interest in caring for injured creatures is considered an oddity in society. However, her mother Lady Melrose, who has kept their precarious financial state from her daughter is pushing wealthy elderly men in her way. Arabella has already declined several proposals of marriage and has every intention of doing the same to Lord Pembroke, who is showing all the signs of an impending proposal. Lady Melrose is not prepared to see her daughter turn down another suitor and comes up with a plan for Lord Pembroke and Arabella to be caught in a compromising position, thus forcing the situation. Her plan goes awry though and instead Nash, the Earl of Clarendon finds himself caught in her trap, betrothed to a woman who is totally unsuited to the role of his countess. I really enjoyed this book, the only things that jarred slightly for me was the use of some Americanisms eg. "honey" and "critter".
I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley. I was not compensated for my review, and I was not required to write a positive review. The opinion expressed here is my own.
Marrying the Wrong Earl is not the story you think it will be. Lady Arabella is not planning to marry, yet. Her mother feels differently and tries to place Arabella in a compromising position to force a marriage. Mom’s plan works although it is a different earl from the one originally planned.
The Earl of Clarendon, Nash, is the one who stoically does as society expects and offers for Lady Arabella once ‘caught’ alone together. He had planned on offering for a ‘society debutante’ who appeared to be all that he needed in a wife to do those things expected by ton society; his choice had been Lady Grace.
Lady Grace and her mother, both very ton in their manners and gossipy nature, caused Nash and Arabella some bit of grief once their plans were thwarted to betroth Grace to Nash. Nash steps up and puts them both in their place very well. He was quite the gentlemanly husband to take care of the situations as he did.
Back to Arabella and Nash – Arabella is something of a self-taught veterinarian who truly has a heart for wounded animals. Nash thought her actions in caring for animals the exact opposite of what should be. My heart kept hoping these two would get past this quickly (wouldn’t have made for a good story though). There were times I did not care for Nash and his attitude but he made the story better by his autocratic attitude once he caved. Arabella is caring, kind and herself while a beautiful person inside and out. Nash is handsome, has many kind moments and the typical male peer of the realm. He knows his way is best if he is to keep their estates doing well and be a part of parliament at the same time.
Not one to give away the best of a story, you will absolutely enjoy this story of opposites attract. I enjoyed this so much I want to go back and read Lord and Ladies in Love #1 of the series. Thank you Net Galley for sharing this delightful, not as expected book.
Absolutely in love with this story! Callie has outdone herself! Witty, fast paced, heartwarming, everything a good read should be! I highly recommend! Thanks! Enjoy!

It's a lighthearted, humorous, and very entertaining historical romance novel. Lady Arabella does not fit into ton's life. She is spirited and love rescuing animals. She has no interest in hosting dinners or socializing with her peers, who clearly do not hold her in any regard. So she is happy spending time with her pets. Unfortunately, her mother does not like her "hobby". She wants to see her well-married. In fact, she wants for Lady Arabella to marry as soon as possible, not only that, also to marry someone who is rich and old. Her logic is that he will not live for long and then Arabella will be free to do as she pleases. Her mother's scheming leads to Arabella's wedding to Lord Clarendon aka Nash.
Nash always thought he'd marry a biddable society miss. Who will be a perfect countess and never embarrass him in public. Arabella is the exact opposite. She argues, and do as she pleases with no respect for society's demands. And she loves animals, probably more than she will ever love him. But now that they're married they will have to try their best to get along with each other. Otherwise they will end up miserable. Therefore, he is willing to give her a chance. Hopefully she will learn to act according to her proper place in society. As a countess she must adhere to certain way of living no matter how much she despises it.
Its an absolutely fantastic read. Two people who do not know each other well, and what little they know about one another isn't something they like, yet they find themselves married. Will they ever be able to find love or happiness or are they doomed to be in an unhappy relationship?
I loved this book. It's one of the best historical novels I've read this year. I'd definitely recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good historical fiction.
Lady Arabella Danvers is happy with her life just the way it is. She is free to be herself and take care of broken and abandoned animals. Her mother is desperate for her to marry, and has decided to take things into her own hands. There is just one little problem with her plan she doesn’t count on Nash, the Earl of Clarendon being in the library. Nash has determined it is time to take a wife & he has selected a woman to whom he intends to propose, Lady Grace but he wants a few minutes to himself so goes to the library where Arabella arrives after receiving a note from her mother. There’s only one thing Nash can do! & three days later they are married.
An easy enjoyable read. The story is well written there is plenty of humour that has you at least smiling if not laughing. Both Nash & Arabella are very likeable, although Nash can be arrogant at times he’s never over bearing. The plot is tried & tested, compromised & married then have to get to know each other & hopefully fall in love. The author does make the plot enjoyable & I wanted to see how their HEA worked out.
This was really quite a disappointing read. It wasn't any one thing that killed it for me, though it would be nice to pinpoint it and call it a day. I think it can be summed up though, by just saying that the writing style can make or break a book. The premise was good - done before, but still engaging and drew me in. I liked the heroine and hero, each to a certain degree. Arabella was clever and independent, but she was also very childish. She didn't understand why a man who is clearly allergic to cats wouldn't want her bringing her menagerie into the household. Nash, too, was very immature. There Arabella was, with a case of influenza which he admits killed relatives in the past, and he can't quite get past her nipples peeking out through her sweat-soaked nightgown. PULL YOURSELF TOGETHER, man. She is really ill, and all he can think about is having sex with her. And the sex scene was just...odd. Obviously all it is is lust, but I didn't want to read it. I actually skimmed it. If that's not the kiss of death for a romance novel, I don't know what is. The character development was below average, and I felt it was just cobbled together based on stories others had written. Didn't feel original and lost me very quickly. Not one I would recommend, despite this author's good reputation as a writer.
Relationships sometimes require compromise and this story delves into that aspect of the relationship between Nash and Arabella. I liked Arabella’s conviction to helping and not caring what society thought of her. Nash, well, he was a bit of a stick up the arse but I could see where he was coming from in that he wanted a life without too many difficulties. I did not feel that either Nash or Arabella cared enough to compromise. I am not sure there was evidence of that at the end of the story either. Overall, though, this is a nice story.
Nash and Arabella are the perfect pair. Neither wanting to be tied to the other when suddenly by accident they find themselves married to each other. Opposites definitely attract in this book.
I have read all of Callies books and enjoyed everyone, this was not an exception. A story of two very different perspectives on life but they find that a little compromise was more than worth the effort so that they could be together. Definitely not the wrong Earl.
I wanted to like this book, but sadly found the storyline ridiculous--the reason for forcing these total strangers to marry wasn't believable at all--and the writing was not up to par. Too much about animals, not enough romance, and no burning embers between hero and heroine--just boring.
Arabella is the daughter of an Earl. After her father died the new Earl had stated that Arabella and her mother could stay put but her mother is determined to be nowhere near the new Earl when he returns from his travels. Arabella’s mother decides that the best way to do this is to marry Arabella off but the men that she’s putting in front of her daughter are all old and Arabella has no desire to marry any of them. Arabella wants to be left alone to care for the sick animals that she rescues. Unfortunately her mother has other plans and ends up planning for Arabella to be caught in a room with one of her mother’s husband choices. That doesn’t exactly work out for the mom as she hadn’t realized that there was already someone in the room when she sent Arabella in there.
Because of the possible scandal Nash, the Earl of Clarendon, insists on marrying Arabella and to save her reputation. He doesn’t particularly like Arabella but he thinks her beautiful and wants her in his bed. He hates that she rescue’s animals and wants her to be a “regular” wife who does needlepoint and watercolors and hosts dinner parties and well, he wants her to be boring. Arabella is having none of it. She continues to rescue animals after she’s married but Nash insists she stops. Arabella tries to be everything that Nash wants her to be, but she is who she is and that causes friction in the marriage.
The plot of the book and the writing were good, I must say, but story itself drove me batshit crazy. Arabella was a kind soul who just wanted to live her life, be a kind person, and help her animals. When she’s forced to marry Nash she’s not happy about it but decides to do her best. That said, she’s not giving up her animals. I admired Arabella for her kindness and her willingness to help those animals in need. She tried to best to be what Nash needed but he wanted her to act like someone she wasn’t and it was too much.
Nash wants the perfect society wife. He was about to offer for an 18-year-old deb but that was put to pasture when he’s caught with Arabella in the same room at a party. Total coincidence. He decides to make the best of it but she frustrates the hell out of him with doing surgery on animals and not acting as a proper wife should. How do I put this kindly…Nash was an ass. And I don’t mean he was an ass for half of the book and then redeemed himself. No, he was an ass for 95% of the book and I disliked him intensely. He was constantly berating Arabella and telling her what to do. When there were callers at the house he would pull her aside and tell her how to act as if she’d never received anyone before marrying him. She tried to get out of marrying him but he insisted and then was frustrated that she didn’t act like he wanted. He wanted a piece of clay he could mold and he certainly didn’t get that. Yes, I’m happy he figured shit out before the end of the book but it was a close one.
Frankly I couldn’t understand how Arabella even fell in love with the man. He only treated her well when they were about to go to bed together or were in bed. I think she was more in lust than anything but that’s just my opinion of course. I personally think the writing saved this book for me because otherwise it would have gotten a lower rating. As it is I can only recommend this book if you like men who act like complete jerks otherwise you may throw your ereader across the room and I can’t have ereader destruction on my conscience.
