And Samanthe Beck unleashed another great story in Love Emergency Series! :)
Second chance romances are always hard for me. I like them, but they usually break my heart before things finally come together, and I have a love/hate relationship with the feeling it gives me. I really loved the first 2 books in this series, and I was looking forward to Sinclair's story. She seemed so closed off to love, and now I understand why, but at the same time, I often wanted to smack her around.
Sinclair is a jewelry designer, and the sister of the heroine from book 1. She's an interesting character, but we never got to know what made her tick in the prior book. Now, we know a lot more. Sinclair and Shane had a high school love affair. He left town, in a heap of trouble, and joined the Marine Corps. She had hopes of hearing from him once he was able, but fate had other plans, and then she retreated into herself, and wouldn't hear him out. She's isolated herself in a lot of ways in the 10 years since, and she blamed him for everything bad in her life, even subconsciously sometimes. Even though she hasn't seen or spoken to him in a decade.
Shane Maguire returns to his hometown in the capacity of his career. He ran out of town at 18 with the law on his heels, but now he's got a good life. He's an emergency management consultant, and the town has hired his boss' firm to run a project. He's good at his job, and he's looking forward to showing the town that he's done just fine in his life. He knows he'll see Sinclair, and part of him is even anticipating it, but he has no idea what he's walking into. Additionally, he has absolutely no plans to stick around, once the job is done. Best laid plans, and all that...
Shane and Sinclair's chemistry is still there, in spades, and Sinclair is not happy about it. Shane doesn't know or understand the finer points of her anger, and he's determined to win her over again. Mostly he succeeds, but he's fighting her, and her pride, tooth and nail. I basically liked Sinclair, and I understood her history, and how it colored her perceptions of things, herself included. But, every time she ignored her feelings, or struck out against him, or literally ran away from a situation, I kinda wanted to punch her in the face. How can someone not know themselves at all? I mean, she's 26 years old and it seems she hasn't learned much about herself except how to protect herself at all costs. Regardless of who else it hurts, including herself, in the long run. She overcomes a lot of hurdles in their path together, and I can appreciate the end result, but for me, getting there was a little painful.
On the flip side, I loved Shane. Once he decided what he wanted, he went after it, full force, and I love that in a hero. He fought for Sinclair, and their love, and he never backed down. He moved mountains to come through for her, and I loved to watch their connection grow, and grow, until even she couldn't deny it anymore. I really liked the way everything started to play out, and I liked them together so much. The author does alpha, authoritative dirty talk very well, and I love her style.
I liked this book, and my love for Shane and the overall story line overcame my less-than-like (I don't want to say dislike, as it wasn't quite that strong) of Sinclair. This has been a great series, and I've enjoyed each of the stories so much. The fact that they took place in Georgia, might have given them a special place in my heart as well! I look forward to more from this author.
Emergency Attraction is emotional, addictive, and seriously hot. I’m a sucker for second chance romances, and Samanthe Beck has delivered a wonderful one in Sinclair and Shane’s story.
Ms. Beck excels at penning swoon-worthy heroes and Shane is no exception. When he left Magnolia Grove ten years ago to join the Marines, he left his heart with Sinclair. Now that he’s back in town, he’s determined to win back her trust. I absolutely adored Shane. He’s kind, sexy as hell, and his biggest problem is that he tries too hard to protect people (to his own detriment). Shane isn’t perfect, but he’s a perfectly delicious hero and I was rooting for him to win Sinclair back. And speaking of Sinclair, she’s an independent heroine with a spine of steel. Not much can get under her skin, but Shane is the exception. And though she doesn’t want to give him a second chance, he has a way of slipping past all her barriers. But Shane broke her heart and the mistakes of youth, when combined with old wounds and misunderstandings make her wary of forgiving him. Normally I dread the “big misunderstanding” device, but in this case I didn’t mind. In Shane and Sinclair’s situation it was completely logical, organic to the characters, and was resolved in a satisfying way.
Emergency Attraction is fast-paced and feels light on its feet, but make no mistake, it’s an emotional story as well. I loved how well Ms. Beck balanced heartache and forgiveness with hope and trust. And when you add in the fact that Sinclair and Shane are insanely hot together? It’s easy to see why I hated having to put this book down.
Emergency Attraction is the third book in Ms. Beck’s Love Emergency series and – if you don’t mind major spoilers for the first book, Emergency Engagement, and minor spoilers for the second book, Emergency Delivery – it can be read as a standalone. That being said, this is a fantastic series and you’re missing out if you don’t read the first two books. Fans of the Love Emergency heroes and heroines will all be delighted to know that their favorite characters return for this story and add more humor and heart to the tale. All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed Shane and Sinclair’s story. It’s heartfelt and hot – an irresistible combination.
I expected Shane and Sinclair's story to read like the usual fare of second chance romances, but then once I started it became more and more interesting. The added antagonist from their High school years gave it some spark. Shane's excuse for not getting in touch was plausible. I didn't get the explanation for what happened to the letters he ended up sending to Sinclair though.
Something also happened and I am happy that Sinclair did not waste too much time telling Shane. I love this story. The epilogue sealed it for me.
When Shane left town know one, but Sinclair thought he would amount to anything. Even Sinclair lost faith in him, or so he thought. Now Shane is back and he wants to show everyone, especially Sinclair, how wrong they were. Sinclair didn't know what happened to Shane, she just knew that he didn't keep his promises to her. Now that he's back she just wants him to stay out of her way. If she comes convince Shane and her traitorous heart of this she would be alright. To bad her or Shane is not listening to her.
Miscommunications and misunderstandings have kept Shane and Sinclair apart for years. Now that Shane's back he will do what he has to prove to Sinclair that he's the one for her. I loved how he pushed and fought his way back into her life. This was a sweet and passionate love story. I loved this couple together and I gave it 4 stars.
Ten years ago, Sinclair lost more than her heart to the local bad boy. Shane not only stole her heart, he ruined her innocence and bruised her pride as he walked away. Now, ten years later Shane is back tempting her resolve and upsetting her carefully ordered life. Against the backdrop of small town living, nosy neighbors and a teenage love affair, Emergency Attraction manages to tackle serious subjects while taking readers on a journey of sentiment, heartache and the chance begin again. Prepare to be seduced by Ms. Beck's coming of age, second chance romance.
“I’m sorry I let you down. I won’t do it again.”
This is a good book.
Yes, I know that's a terribly bland opening, but I couldn't think how else to say it. Emergency Attraction is good. It's sexy, and has a sweet second chance love story. It's rife with swoony lines about trust and hope and love, and it ends on a wonderfully high (if slightly predictable) note.
Except… it just wasn't quite there for me. It felt slow to start, and occasionally bogged down in details that I skimmed past to get to the meat of Sinclair and Shane’s story. I read it with an air of impatience—and, honestly, frustration.
I liked Shane well enough, but Sinclair I struggled with. The back and forth was a little too much for me, and her stubbornness quickly went from strong, sassy Southern woman to obstinate and maybe even a touch unnecessary. I understood—and even commiserated with—her hurt, but ultimately, I wanted to get to the hope and chance part of this second chance romance.
This is the only book in Samanthe Beck’s Love Emergency series that I have read, and yes, it's a complete standalone. I followed along easily enough, and enjoyed seeing cameos from previous couples even though I didn't KNOW them. Will I go back and read those first two books? No, in all honestly, I'm highly unlikely to. But I will be back for more of this author’s work, because I have a feeling that she can easily turn good into great.
“I will never let you down again.”
~ 2.5 STARS ~
I'll be honest here and say I'm not exactly a fan of second chance romance. If it didn't work the first time, I need a good reason as to why it will work the second time. I like this author and have enjoyed several of her books, so I wanted to give this one a chance. I admit, her reasons for this couple separating and not getting back together until 10 years later, convinced me. Their reasons were valid and that's enough for me. It also helped that Shane pursued Sinclair relentlessly when he came back. I'm a fan of that. I much prefer the man to pursue the woman and Shane didn't disappoint. I'm also a fan of the heroine's this author creates. They are strong, independent women who have self respect. That is important to me and sometimes rare to find.

Samanthe Beck never fails to bring us truly unforgettable, deliciously sexy heroes and she doesn't disappoint in this book. Shane was all the above and more and Sinclair was a perfect match for him. There's plenty of sizzle between them and their story is a fun ride.
The only regret Shane has is leaving Sinclair behind when he joined the Marines. He should have at least told her why but he's back now and willing to do whatever it takes to get her back. As expected Sinclair isn't willing to go along with Shane's plans. Perhaps a little revenge will help her finally get over him!
I highly recommend this one.

Emergency Attraction by Samanthe Beck
Book Three of the Love Emergency series
Publisher: Entangled Brazen
Publication Date: April 17, 2017
Rating: 4 stars

Summary (from Goodreads):
Ten years ago when Shane Maguire chose the Marines as his escape from some trouble of his own making, he only regretted one thing—leaving Sinclair Smith behind. Despite his best intentions, she ended up as the one that got away. Now he’s back, determined to reclaim everything he gave up, including Sinclair.
Sinclair is immune to Shane’s charms. She’s immune to stolen kisses behind the gym. And she’s definitely immune to that maneuver he did in the back seat of his car… Okay, maybe her hormones are susceptible, but she has absolutely no desire to risk anything on the bad boy who broke all his promises.
When a little emergency lands her at his mercy, he offers her a deal she can’t refuse. And this time, she’ll show Shane what it means to be left wanting…
Each book in the Love Emergency series is a standalone story that can be enjoyed out of order.
What I Liked:
Samanthe Beck is one of my favorite Entangled Brazen authors - and adult romance authors in general. I haven't read a book of hers that I didn't enjoy, which is saying something! Some books have been better than others, but in general, her books work for me. I read the first book in this particular series (Emergency Engagement), but passed on the second book (Emergency Delivery). I almost passed on this one as well (for reasons I'll talk about!), but I'm glad I didn't. This book was a quick, enjoyable read.
Shane Maguire and Sinclair Smith grew up together in a small town, and when they were teenagers, they shared a powerful connection beyond physical attraction. But circumstances led to Shane joining the Marines and Sinclair staying behind. Ten years later, Shane is back, working as in risk management for emergency planning. It's been ten years but Shane's feelings for Sinclair haven't changed, and even though her left her, Sinclair's feelings haven't changed either. She can deny it all she wants, but their chemistry hasn't cooled and the pair have missed each other. But Sinclair might not be ready to give Shane a second chance, even if Shane is committed to staying with her.
One of the reasons why I almost passed on this book is because it's a second-chance romance, and I really don't enjoy second-chance romance novels. I hate all the drama and angst and hurt - someone is always hurt (usually both of them), and usually it's because of miscommunication. In this book's case, the second-chance aspect was not as dramatic and angst-ridden as I'd expected! Sure, there were painful, heartbreaking parts to Shane and Sinclair's mutual past, but the book was fairly low on drama.
Shane is such a good guy, and clearly very different than at eighteen. Years in the military straightened him out and made him a stronger, better person. For years, he sent Sinclair letters, trying to reach out, but she never responded. But Shane never stopped loving her, thinking about her, wanting her. Ten years later, Shane is persistent, protective, thoughtful, and a little naughty. He's a sweet guy who is incredibly patient with Sinclair.
Sinclair has ten years' worth of pain stored up, and she blames Shane. She lost faith in him when she never heard from him (his letters never reached her), and thought he didn't care about her anymore. Ten years later, she's still incredibly angry with him, and very hurt. Sinclair is a tough lady, but she has been through a lot, and she has walled herself off since Shane left to join the Marines. I didn't totally like her, but I understood her. Her hurt and pain were legitimate, even if she was a little unreasonable with all of that blame she directed at Shane.
As with every second-chance romance, there is a lot of communication between the pair about the past, and mistakes they made. I was happy to see both of them work things out slowly but surely. I was especially happy that Sinclair recognized that she was also in the wrong, and that not only did she have to forgive Shane, but he had to forgive her. The blame went both ways.
Shane and Sinclair have a lot of chemistry between them! Their passion for each other clearly never wore off, even with ten years of time and distance between them. Honestly, that's impressive and I love how the author brought about the chemistry and tension. I love how persistent and patient Shane was, because Sinclair was trying really hard not to budge with him. There are a few pretty hot scenes in this book (and some shorter semi-hot scenes). Beck always does a great job with the sexy times!
The climax involves a certain trope that I hate, but I did not mind it, in this book. It should have bothered me (like it did in a previous book in the series) but in this case, it seemed to work for the story. And the climax in general is relatively drama-free, and I like how Sinclair knows she is in the wrong, as does Shane.
In general, this was another Beck winner for me. Great characters, good character development, a good balance of emotional and physical growth between the characters' relationship, and a steamy romance, that did not disappoint. I also really liked the epilogue, which featured the three couples of this series (Beau and Savannah, Hunter and Madison, Shane and Sinclair). So much cute!
What I Did Not Like:
More steamy scenes would have been great (or maybe make the abbreviated scenes less brief). Also I mentioned that I didn't totally love Sinclair, though I understood her. I stand by that. She was a little too standoffish and sometimes mean, when it came to Shane. Poor guy! He didn't deserve all of the negativity and blame.
Would I Recommend It:
I can't speak for Emergency Delivery, but I'd recommend this entire series! This book isn't my new favorite or anything, but it's a great, satisfying novel. If you're looking for a quick, steamy, second-chance romance novel, this is one for you!
Rating:
4 stars. I'm hoping Beck will continue writing books in the Compromise Me series, because those books are awesome! The first book, Compromising Her Position, is one of my favorite Beck books. I recommend it!

Sigh...I think I am chalking this one up to being more of the mood I am in than the book. This failed to keep my interest from page one. I didn't really care for either of the main characters. It took WAY too long for the misunderstanding to be cleared up. I knew what the heroine's secret was going to be right from the start and SURPRISE I was right. It was the same cliché secret found in a bazillion other romance books.
There was nothing new to be found here and because of that I just never found myself engaged enough to care about these characters. But like I said, this is probably more a "ME" thing so don't let my review deter you!
Sinclair Smith met the love of her life ten years ago, then he shipped out to join Marine Corps and she never heard from him again... and it hurt like hell. She gave him a part of herself, never expecting him to disregard it so easily and leave like it meant nothing to him. Then tragedy strikes her life and she feels as though if Shane were there to protect her from it it would have never happened, and from there her hatred for him starts to build. She has since moved on, made a name for herself in the jewelry world, but she still lives in somewhat of an isolated little world. When she hears that Shane has returned to town to advise on a local project, she can't help but be irritated, and decides her best course of action is to avoid him at all costs... but doing that in a small town is easier said then done!
Shane Maguire left Magnolia Grove ten years ago, and never looked back, if he had he's sure his troublesome ways would have caught up to him! His motives for leaving were genuine, he needed to become a better man, and he was sure the Marine Corp could help him with that, but walking away from his high school sweetheart Sinclair damn near killed him. But now home is calling him in need of his expertise, so he reluctantly decides to make his return, and while he is there he plans on finding a way to reunite with the woman who has held his heart for the last ten years. But when you go radio silent on the woman you claim to love, and ignore her for the last ten years, a happy reunion maybe just be too high of a hope to have!
Once again Ms. Beck has dazzled me with her literary talents, this second chance love story was nothing short of amazing! The moment I met these two lovebirds I knew they were going to be an entertaining pair, their distaste for one another spawned some seriously feisty banter, that often times lead to some steamy between the sheets action that had blushing a time or two. They also had a lot of forgiving to do, and had to work through the deep seated hurt that had built up over the last ten years, and while they suffered a lot of little bumps along the way getting things sorted out... they finally found a way to meet in the middle. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with these two, their story gave me the feels, filled my heart with joy, and renewed my faith in happily ever afters! Highly recommend it!!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this title.
Sinclair and Shane were high school sweethearts and madly in love. But fate intervened and fear and miscommunication drove them apart.
Now 10 years later they have been given a second chance. What does fate have in store for them, this time around ?
I love second chance romance and Emergency attraction is one of the best I've read in a long time. The characters had me addicted and rooting for them throughout. The chemistry combustible.
A book that is a definite addition to my to be read again list.
3.5 stars
I love a good second chance romance book. Shane and Sinclair had a relationship 10 years ago. They were each other's first loves and Shane was Sinclair's first. Then Shane left for the Marines and Sinclair never heard from him again, until he showed up in her small town for a job. Now, he realizes what he let get away from him and he wants Sinclair back.
Sinclair never got to tell Shane what happened to her the summer he left. He was supposed to call and get in contact with her the second he could, and never did. He had his reasons (kinda lame ones) and she has something big that happened to her that she needed him to know. Instead, she has been carrying it around for 10 years, hiding the details even from her parents.
Can time bring them back together or keep them apart?? They are no longer teenagers, but their feelings are the same as they were back then.
I liked this story. I did have an issue that she was 16 and he was 18 when they were dating. It seemed a little wrong, but who am I to judge true love???
Ten years ago, Sinclair and Shane were together, though only in secret; he was from the wrong side of the tracks, and she wasn’t certain how her family would react. There was also the fact that he was two years older than her, making him 18 and her 16 while they were together. The summer after his graduation, he went off to basic training (Marines) while she was touring Europe (a school thing, I think it was?). But trouble with his training kept him from contacting her until much later that year, and by then she wasn’t answering him, convinced that he had simply left her entirely. They each went their own way; he served a few years before become an emergency planning consultant (he helps cities and companies to determine if their buildings and property are as protected as possible against potential disasters and such), while she became a successful jewelry artist. While he’s never been back to their home town, she’s settled down there, content with her home and her passion.
But at her sister’s wedding reception, she notices that he’s back. He’s in town for business, but he also makes it clear that he’s going to try his hardest to get to the bottom of why everything fell apart on them the first time around. She’s determined to resist him, to hate him, but she can’t deny that she still cares for him, still thinks of him, and clearly still has a strong attraction to him. But before she can even think about trusting him again and trying for another relationship with him, she has to open up about the past and finally tell him what happened that summer . . .
While they try to sort through their pasts and start again, problems with his work pop up: the company that’s hired him is located near her beloved home and if they have their way, she’ll either live with the threat of a potential flood being redirected to her place or be forced to leave the property entirely. Shane has to show her that she can trust him again, both with her heart and with her home. They’ve both changed in those ten years; is it enough to give them a solid second chance – or is it too little too late?
I wasn’t completely sold on how Shane went from not actively seeking her for those ten years to taking on the job in his hometown – even though he even admits that he didn’t want to come back at all – to suddenly being solidly determined to get her back while he’s there. I needed something more to show me his change of mind because that’s a lot of time between doing nothing to seeing her face again to suddenly having his biggest goal be getting her back.
Other than that bit, I did quite enjoy their romance, and thought that the way he worked to regain her trust and woo her was pretty sweet. Not to mention hot, as these two get up to some steamy fun along the way: against his car, out in the woods, and even in his old childhood bedroom. There’s definitely a good dose of heat in this book and I loved it.
That being said, there were a few minor things that bothered me. Keep in mind, these three things I’m going to mention are all quite common in romance novels, unfortunately, so take it as you will. I’m pointing it out because for me it’s worth mentioning but I also fully recognize that I can’t hold these things against the book too much when it’s not something that ONLY this book has done.
The first two issues I had revolve around their first time. It’s mostly shown on page, in the form of a flashback/memory that Sinclair has. Remember, their first time was when she was 16 and he 18 (which, I know, might make some people iffy because of the age of consent and laws for statutory rape; of course it’s 100% consensual between them, but I do understand why that age difference could worry some). When she’s thinking back on it, she repeatedly thinks of it as a gift – as in, she gave her virginity to him, on his birthday no less, as a gift. And UGH, it’s not a gift, I don’t care if it’s within a fully loving relationship or what, that’s not what a woman’s virginity is. But, as I said, this is something that shows up in romancelandia AND even society’s views IRL. On top of that, the sex scene while she loses her virginity includes the infamous Misplaced Hymen. In case you’re new to this idea, here’s why I say misplaced: Shane has already started to enter her, is nearly half way in, and yet doesn’t break her hymen until he then gives on final, quick and hard thrust. Um, nooooo. The hymen is not located half way up a woman’s vagina, people, that’s not how any of this works!
Did the loss of her virginity ruin the book for me? Of course not. But I also can’t just blindly flip past inaccurate anatomy. Not even after all these years of reading romances, misplaced hymens and all. Generally speaking, it’s better than it was, as more authors are writing about the hymen in a more anatomically correct way, but I’m still surprised and a bit tired when current releases still use the old “he’s gotta be fully inside her before she’s actually deflowered” nonsense. Come on, this needs to go!
The other, very minor, gripe I had was a brief use of slut shaming. When Sinclair is showing Shane his old house, and wants to give him a good memory in the place (ala, a blow job/sex), she starts asking him if he had any girls in his room before. He vaguely tells her that yes, he had a few (all before they were together that one year), and she refers to the unnamed girl who sucked him off as a slut. Again, this is garbage that’s prevalent in romance AND outside of it and it needs to stop. No slut shaming. A person, especially a woman, enjoying and seeking out sex, should never been looked down upon for doing it. And no, jealousy is not an excuse. Stop it, period!
Those things aside, I liked this story and read it in a day. While I can’t say that it was one of those stories that really pulled me in and will stay with me for years, it was an easy and entertaining read nonetheless. There’s heat, there’s some sweet second chance romance going on, and some emotions, too, though I won’t spoil their story by explaining where those emotions come from. I think many will enjoy this one, and I know I’ll read more from Beck (this is my second novel from her, and I've been pretty happy with her writing style).
3 1/2 STARS!
Another great romance. I liked the plot and how the author was able to bring the two main characters together.
**I received a copy of Emergency Attraction from Entangled Publishing and Net Galley in exchange for a voluntary and honest review**
Emergency Attraction is the third book in Love Attraction series by Samanthe Beck. I've read some other her other books and read this as a stand alone without any problems. I love second change romances and this one between Shane and Sinclair is a beautiful one.
Shane Maguire grew up on the wrong side of the tracks but he always regretted leaving Sinclair Smith behind when he joined the Marines after high school. But she has kept a secret from him for years and now he's back in Magnolia Grove advising the town as a emergency planning consultant. But he decides that he wants Sinclair back and will do anything to convince her to give him another chance. But when a flood causes issues with the new golf project will he be able to save her in time?
Sinclair Smith had always loved Shane even though he was from a different part of Magnolia Grove. But when he went into the Marines and he didn't come back she moved on. They meet again at her sister's wedding reception, will she give him a second chance? She's a successful jewelry designer now and fears he'll just leave again once his job is complected. But staying away from each other proves to be very hard, can they rekindle their love again? And will he stay even though his job has a lot of traveling?
I loved the tender moment that Sinclair has with her dad they are beautiful and this story gives everyone a second chance to find love again.
in emergency attraction, it's been ten years since sinclair smith and shane maguire laid eyes on each other. they were young and in love and promised to stay in touch after he was forced to leave town and enlist.
but he didn't call. he didn't write. at least not immediately. and by the time he did, sinclair wasn't willing to listen. so they each harbor a lot of anger and resentment toward one another, although really most of it comes from sinclair's side. and here's the thing, i totally get why she feels the way she does, except she's also being insanely irrational.
she went through some things. things he didn't know about. and there were reasons he wasn't able to be in touch, but she never bothered to listen to them. and yes, they were too young to know better. but in the intervening ten years, it feels like shane did a lot of growing up while sinclair did not.
but he's still crazy attracted to her. he's halfway in love with her before they manage a civil conversation. and she keeps sending totally mixed signals in a way that makes it pretty clear that it's all a test. she won't listen, won't believe in him until he proves that he is trustworthy again.
the reason he is home is because he is assessing the viability of some resort plans, and when her home is threatened by the plans and the concerns he's raised she is furious. she knows it's not his fault. but she wants him to fix it. she doesn't trust that he can. and all of this is the ultimate test. he needs to get this right for her. he needs to be able to prove that he can stick things through with her.
if they can exorcise the demons from their past, reveal all their secrets and come through the latest crises on the same page, then maybe, just maybe things will work out. sinclair and shane don't have an easy road, she makes it an especially difficult one. but their chemistry and their feelings for each other are stronger than pretty much any obstacle. they just have to let themselves believe that love will win.
Oh my! Wow, I didn't expect the erotic scenes to be as frequent and hot as they were. This was one of the best second chance romance books I've read in a long time.
