Take a armchair journey through the breathtaking High Sierras.

Spanning thirty backpacking trips into the depths of the Sierra Nevada wilderlands, photographer Frank Weyman presents the bountiful beauty in this photo collection. Interspersed among the pictures are words of wisdom to complement the stunning photos by such people as John Muir, and Jack Kerouac, among many others. Weyman clearly has an eye for detail, composition, and beauty, as well as a passion for his work! Thirty+ trips is a lot!

The Sierra Nevada Mountains, which many consider the most beautiful range in the world, don't easily reveal their treasures, but this photographic compilation, the result of over 30 backpacking trips in the remote high country, reveals the spirit and beauty of a national gem through brilliant images.

Focusing on carefully selected landscapes captured from virtually impossible vantage points, the photographs reflect a genuine Sierra back-country experience. Witness the disappearing edges between water and rocks at Lake Aloha, the scant vegetation peeking out between slabs of smooth granite in Cherry Creek Canyon, and read about the natural processes that led to the creation of waterfalls, glaciers, and lakes.

The painstakingly crafted compositions demonstrate how light can determine the way one sees and remembers a landscape. Musings about the Sierra Nevada by naturalists, mountaineers, and writers, including John Muir, Norman Clyde, Jane Wilson Howarth, and Jack Kerouac, complement the arresting photography.

A book of an area, that many will never visit.

With breathe taking pictures, that allow your imagination soar.

The sheer beauty of the pictures, is a must for any armchair traveller.

This is a beautiful photography book. There is some text. I really liked the quotes and the short descriptions of the photographs. The photographer often explains why, where and how he took the photograph. Whether you plan on hiking/visiting the parks or just want to arm chair travel you will enjoy these photographs. Gorgeous and Inspirational

This is a beautiful study and photographic journal of the Sierra Nevada Mountain range, organized according to the author's off trail trek through the various national parks within the mountains' limits. As one who is neither a geologist nor a traveler to any of those parks, this book is both informative and also grandly beautiful. Weyman's skills as a photographer are obvious.

The views that Weyman is able to achieve are, primarily, not those that most trekkers would see. He tells us in his descriptions what sort of hikes he made to get each shot, what occasional extremes he put himself through, sometimes unintentionally, for the sake of what are really beautiful photos of amazing geology. The various types of rock formations alone are different than I expected. Who knew there are striped mountains? Thankfully Weyman was curious and found a place where he could photograph them over his many back country treks.

Throughout the book, there are quotes from John Muir and other naturalists and writers, touting the glories of the Sierras and other aspects of the natural world. These are a nice addition to the book. The is also a detailed introduction that goes into depth on the formation of these mountains. I did learn quite a bit beyond my simple knowledge of glaciers!

This is an excellent introduction and keepsake of the Sierras but also a wonderful book to add to a collection of nature and photography books.

A copy of this book was provided by the publisher through NetGalley in return for an honest review.

There are no words to fully convey the beauty in then pictures of this book. It is page after page of some of the most stunning pictures I have ever seen. There are no houses, buildings. power lines, or anything else in these pictures. This is one of the few untouched areas left. The mountains, trees, lakes, rivers, wildflowers are all just mind blowing. I would love to visit here but no roads I know I never will, but I have this amazing book. I will be buying the hard cover version to add to my collection of photography books. If you ever get a chance to look at this book if I had to choose a favorite picture it would be page 59. It is a picture of Yosemite Falls and Half Dome. There are mountains, trees, a waterfall, and a double rainbow in the picture. I would proudly have this pictured framed and on my living room wall if I could. This picture really makes you believe in God. Only God could make the beauty in this picture.

I received this book from the Author or Publisher via Netgalley.com to read and review.

A beautiful set of landscape photos from the High Sierras. As a landscape photographer (for fun), these are the photos I aspire to shoot myself. The shots are from the best time of day and are from compositions that aren't necessarily the most common from each location. Love the topographic map at the beginning of each section.

Another book filled with beautiful photographs this time of the Sierra Mountains. This book has more text then most photo books but the information was well researched and helped me learn and understand this range of Mountains that I knew so little about.
