*** SPOILER ALERT:
My biggest problem with this book is that the storyline was so unbelievable. Yes I can see how a 3 yr old mistakenly hears his father's name (especially when they have the same first name and a similar last name, really?) and then he gets confused when he sees someone that looks almost exactly like his father. But that's when it should end. You tell him that's not his father and you move on. You don't go along with it. And why does it end with a proposal? Whatever happened to the concept of dating? Especially when they just met a week ago, Chase was engaged and thought he was about to be a father six months ago, Maddy's husband died nine months ago.
Thank you to NetGalley, Tule Publishing and Barbara Dunlop for a copy of "Chase" in exchange of an honest review
This was a quick, but well characterized read that developed in a not unexpected way, but was still a good read. There were a number of editing issues that needed to be addressed - spelling mistakes, the use of an incorrect name at one point, etc. but it didn't effect the story itself. The introduction of stories outside the main storyline is a bit of a tease but perhaps the author will explore those more in future? Overall an enjoyable way to spend a couple of hours. Enjoyed reading this sweet read about new beginnings. Mistaken identity heals a broken heart. Engaging read recommended read

Maddy married Chase right out of high school and she had Riley. She was busy raising her son on her own with help from her brothers. They are very protective of her and they didn’t waste anytime asking his intensions with Maddy when they came for a visit.
Chase is enjoying the time with Riley and Maddy and their attraction is growing more but they have to tell the truth to Riley soon or later.
Maddy feels this Chase is very different from her late husband, but she is not sure if he feels the same way about her. Chase assuming her attraction is for his name and ideal family. Now they have to find a way to communicate their true feelings.
This was cute romance. I did love Riley and dynamics of her brothers. I read the 2nd Merrick series but I like this one much better than the 2nd one!!!
Thanks to Netgalley and Tule Publishing for ARC in exchange for honest review.
Thank you for the chance to review this book, however, unfortunately, I was unable to read and review this title before it was archived.
Chase Garrett was about to have it all, a women he loved and a son or daughter and giving up his dream rich to be with his pregnant fiancé is a small price to pay, but home will be wherever his family is; but his dream died a sudden death when he reaches his fiancé and finds his best freind in bed with her. Anger and betrayal drive him With no ranch of his own anymore he leaves and finds himself joining the American Extreme Bullriders tour, roaming town to town and rising in the rankings suits him fine, determined to shield his heart and not let anyone in.
That plan was working well for him till 3 year old Riley runs out of the stands and into the arena thinking that Chase Is his Daddy, but Riley is running straight into danger of the very angry bull that chase just got off of; not thinking of himself Chase runs after the child and rushes him to safety and back to his extremely anxious mother; Masdy.
To Maddy's enbarressment , Riley will not relinquish his grip of Casey insisting he is his father .
Masdy thought that her and her brother finally got Riley to understand that his daddy was not coming home, that he was dead gone to heaven. Maddy can not be any more thankful to this cowboy because not only did he save Riley but he was being very understanding . Maddy and Riley's Chase had been a bull rider and was killed by a bull when thrown , the only reason they were at the rodeo was so Riley could see his uncle Travis ride.
Unfortunately days later Riley was still asking when Daddy was coming home still believing that Chase was his Daddy, easy to see how a three year old would think that , same name, same profession and they even resembled each other a little .
Heaven save 'addy from meddling brothers because her brother Travis thinking he is doing right by his nephew , brings home Chase Garrett over the two break thinking his nephew would have a chance to recognize over some time that thus Chase was not his Daddy.
Travis however did not think about poor Maddy , because though recently widowed she finds this Chase attractive and their is an obvious chemistry which gets harder and harder to ignore as time goes on.
Such a heartwarming romance, with a sexy, thoughtful and generous cowboy !
Absolutely loving this series!
Arc copy provided by Tule publishing via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review!
This is book 2 in the multi-author American Bull Riders Tour series and it features Chase Garrett and Madeline Barrett. I love reading about Cowboys and the women they can't get enough of. This story was that and so much more. Add a child to the mix and emotions get stronger. This was an extremely emotional romance that was full of betrayal, dealing with death, learning to live again, family and most important is love.
I would have loved an epilogue but sadly there wasn't one. Also, I had a small issue with there not being any mention of the use of protection during sex. I understand it is assumed they did but it just doesn't feel right not openly acknowledging it.
All in all this was a fabulous read and I can't wait to see what happens with the Merrick brothers.
Chase was such a good story! Short — thank goodness, because I couldn't put it down — and oh so sweet! Maddy and Chase and Maddy's three year-old son Riley walked their way into my heart as soon as I met them and stayed there throughout the book. Their story is one of new beginnings and second chances, of good and decent people trying to do the right thing and falling in love along the way. I absolutely adored this book!
2.5 stars. I wanted to like this book, but, I just didn't. I just could not get past the things with the Son. I'm sorry, but, as a mom, there is no way anyone would allow their son to think another man is his dead father for a long period of time. Just, no. And, also just super cheesy that he has the same name and look as her dead husband. I'm sorry, I need something more as a reason for them to be together. There were moments that were good. And I liked Chase. But I just didn't feel the relationship growth here or find myself rooting for these two. I just can't give it more than 2.5 stars.
Chase is on the circuit when a surprise happens and he finds Maddy and her son. Really enjoying this series .
ebook from netgalley and publishers with thanks. Opinions are entirely my own.
"Chase" by Barbara Dunlop tells us the story of a young boy missing his daddy and a severe case of mistaken identity. I liked the premise of the story, however, I found there were several areas that didn't quite work for me. Chase, reeling from his fiancee's betrayal, is on the rodeo circuit. He meets Maddy, a widow with a three year old son that believes Chase is his Daddy. Of course, Chase and Maddy work together to help Riley understand the truth, and during that time, sparks fly. I can't say that I loved any of the characters, well, maybe Riley. While Chase was sexy and his concern and willingness to help Riley was applaudible, at times he was a bit immature. And Maddy, I really wish she had a bit more of a backbone. Others seemed to want to dictate her life and it really frustrated me that she didn't always stand up for herself more. There are aspects of the story that I liked and, of course, Riley is a cutie pie too. The story itself flows and I did like Ms. Dunlop's style. I found I was never lost and understood what was happening at all times too. Overall, this was just an ok read for me, but I will probably give Ms. Dunlop another shot at a future tale. Chase Garrett comes home early to find his fiancee sleeping with his best friend. Hurt and angry, he leaves to join the bull-riding circuit he was accepted in. Widow Maddy Barrett is at a bull-riding tournament with her three year old son, waiting to watch her twin brother. When a bull rider with a similar name and facial features get done, she is terrified when her son Riley falls into the ring trying to get to the rider. When the rider prevents him from being stomped by the bull, Riley is determined that Chase is his daddy.
I was iffy about this book in the very beginning, but I’ glad I decided to give it a chance. I really enjoyed the story. The characters were well created. My heart bled for Riley. I loved the interactions between Chase and Maddy. I look forward to reading more from this author.
**I voluntarily read and reviewed this book
What a great story! Wonderfully written with amazing characters. Riley just made my heart melt from the very beginning. Chase Garrett has had his heart shattered and is determined not to let anyone close again. That is until a little guy named Riley comes barrelling into his life. Riley is convinced Chase is his Daddy. No matter what Chase or the boys mother, Maddy, tells him. Chase and Maddy decide to work together to help Riley understand but it's not long before they are both wishing Chase really was Riley's dad.
A must read. I highly recommend it.
One little boy is going to tug hard on your heartstrings, and perhaps break your heart just a bit. Riley is convinced that the bull rider in the ring right now is his daddy come back home from heaven. His name is Chase, he rides bulls and the resemblance is enough that a very young boy could see his father in the face of a stranger. Trouble is that their first names may be the same, their last names so similar when spoken over the loudspeaker but the truth is that Chase is no boy’s father, even though he’d almost thought he would be until that dream was shattered by the truth. No, Riley was in for a world of hurt when he finally had to accept that his daddy has not come home, but Chase cannot bring that pain to this little one… or to his mother.
Chase is one of those stories that will tear your heart apart – and put it back together again, differently but no less whole once again. Riley is truly the star of this story. His innocent belief and trust will make it possible for the adults to start believing in their own brand of magic, and healing, and attraction.
The story description is enough to give you an idea of what an interesting story this will be. The rest should be up to you to discover. Chase and Maddy make a believable couple. Both have to overcome their pasts and make way for a future that includes one little boy’s trust and love. It’s a precious, satisfying story that I enjoyed and would recommend for any Romance reader. You looking for your next book hero? Well, his name is Chase.
*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*
That a fun, entertaining read. Chase has his ups and downs but Maddie and the adorable little cowboy Riley are perfect for him. While Maddie may not be looking for another cowboy on the circuit, Chase is perfect for her too. They start out trying to help a child deal with the harsh reality of death but find so much more. I enjoyed being along for their journey of discovery.
This is a sweet but short read that has characters you would want as friends. Amazing that the author could put so much story and emotion in 11 chapters. I have seen Barbara Dunlop’s name around for a while. I have no idea why I waited so long to find this author but her name is on my TBR list now.
"The American Extreme Bull Riders Tour" what a great series. This is the second book in the series I have read and let me tell you, they are fantastic. Each author has done an excellent job telling their stories
This one had great chemistry between Chase and Maddy. The story was an great romance story with a very cute twist. It was fast paced and didn't lag in excitement. I couldn't put it down. I enjoyed it thoroughly.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Net Galley
This book melted by heart from the first chapter. Chas has joined the American Extreme Bull Riders Tour with a broken heart of betrayal when he saves a little tyke, Riley from a bull at a tour. Maddy single mom to Riley, is a widow of a former Bull rider. Chase has the same name as her former husband and even looks like him. Riley has it in his mind that his daddy has returned. Maddy soon finds herself falling in love with Chase too. Maddy has brothers that like to interfere and think they know what is best for her.
A great book that I could not put down. Loved the characters. I wish everyone has a Chase in their lives. Poor little Riley, I just fell in love with him. Maddy, needs to find her happily ever after, and it might just be Chase!
This is the second book in the series but completely stand alone stories.
I could not put this book down and I ended up reading it in just a few short hours. It pulled me in from the start and had me rooting for the characters.
Here’s what’s going on. After finding out his fiancée is cheating on him and is pregnant by his best friend, Chase throws himself into the world of bull riding determined to avoid woman. Although that changes when he saves three-year-old Riley, who believes Chase is his deceased father, and falls for the little boy’s mother. Maddy’s not sure how to convince her son Chase isn’t his father, so they decide to work together and break it to Riley slowly, although there’s one little problem. Maddy is falling head-over-heels for Chase but can she convince him she’s in love with him and not just wanting to recreate the family she lost?
Chase totally stole my heart. He’s had a lot that he’s had to come to terms with in his personal life but he still managed to give his undivided attention to Riley. Instead of being annoyed that this little kid was clinging to him, he just held Riley closer and wanted to protect him. Even though I enjoyed Chase and Maddy getting to know each other, it was Chase and Riley that sold me on the book.
For the most part, I liked Maddy. She’s a good mother and she’s determined to stand on her own two feet. But I didn’t care for the way she chose to lash out after she fought with Chase, she handled it very poorly on her part and, truthfully, what she was upset about was trivial and it was unfair to both Chase and her son.
The romance felt very realistic. It was slow to start and I enjoyed that they took time to get to know each other and figure out what was best for Riley before taking it to the next level.
I also enjoyed getting to know Maddy’s brothers and Piper, whose story I’m anxiously awaiting.
Although I enjoyed this one, there were several reasons I gave it a 3.5. The ending was way too rushed. The story had a nice even flow then it hit the 90% mark and it seemed to go at warp speed. If a few extra chapters had been added, it wouldn’t have felt so rushed and cramped at the ending. I wasn’t thrilled that the major blowup of the story resulted from lack of communication. Seriously people, just open your mouth and do some talking. And the last thing that irked me was the condomless sex, twice, people, twice. I kept waiting for the oops, I’m pregnant moment to pop up, which it never did. What irritated me even more about the lack of protection was the fact Maddy married her first husband because Riley was the product of unprotected sex.
Overall, I enjoyed this one. There were some things that could have been handled differently, but I had fun with it.
This was a great story. Showing very eloquently how the mind of a child works and how difficult some things are for them to understand. Chase was very thoughtful in his delings with Riley so as not to hurt him. Maddy and Chsee together once the lhey let down the inhibitions were explosive and hot!
3.5 Stars Chase is the second book in the American Extreme Bull Rider Tour series this one written by author Barbara Dunlop. Each story is written by a different author to make up the books in this series. I liked Chase and Maddy’s story it was well paced although a little too sweet at times it still held you invested from beginning to end. I look forward to seeing where these authors take us next
