Love Kendra Michaels. It's about time thing between her and Lynch start to progress. As much as I like Kendra's ability to solve crimes, her triumphs with the children she works with is also wonderful.
A really fast paced mystery. I haven't read all the other Kendra Michaels books, and that didn't seem to be a big deal. This one kept me on my toes well past bedtime. I predicted some of the turns, but I still found it to be a great read. Add it to your beach reading list!
Another hit. This series is one of the best around. Still fresh and keeps you asking for more. Love the characters and the developing relationships. Just wish Kendra and Lynch would stop playing around.
This story was consistently interesting. Findings came together in a logical way. Ending was a twist, which is always exciting. Can't wait for the next book.
I really enjoyed this book. I love the Kendra series, and I hope in the next book Lynch and Kendra finally get together!
The Author returns to Kendra Michaels ....the 5th book in the series , producing another excellent thriller with a difference .
Ever since Kendra had her eyesight restored she has used her enhanced abilities/senses , to survey a scene/event , in order to assist the FBI and the Police at crime scenes ........picking up clues/markers that others might not notice notice .
Kendra main passion is helping traumatised children , helping them through music to re-connect with the world ...........BUT the FBI come calling once again .......a Serial Killer is in town , his victims near her part of town .
Kendra manages to tie the murders to previous deaths in other States - the killer is leaving items that were taken from previous victims with the new victims .
The 'holdback' characteristics of these murders are not being disclosed and instead are being used by the Authorities to try and get ahead of the game .
The body count rises , so she relies on her own "dream team" of agent Adam Lynch( would-be lover) and private investigator "Jessie Mercado"...... it seems as though the murderer is looking closer to home ....perhaps even Kendra herself .. the race is on to identify the killer and stop him for good .
This was a well written suspense book with well developed , sympathetic characters and a tight plot , leaving you guessing as to the outcome.....I eagerly await the next book from the Author as she often has character crossovers in her other series .
I have been reading Iris books since I was a kid and I have every single one of her books. I hope to one day get to meet Iris and Roy so that I can get my books signed by them. Look Behind You is absolutely fantastic! I enjoy their writing together. I will definitely be adding this one to my collection!
This is the 5th book in a series featuring Kendra Michaels. This book could stand on its own if the reader hadn't read any of the previous books. Kendra was blind until an experimental surgery restored her eyesight. While she was blind she learned to rely on her other senses. Now because of her unusual powers of observation she is sometimes called in by the FBI to help on cases. There is a serial killer loose who has murdered 3 women and reluctantly Kendra agrees to help. Now Kendra and anyone close to her are in the sights of the killer.
This is a great suspense read. The book is well written and the characters are well developed. The interaction between Kendra, her friends and her friend Spec Agent Lynch lighten up what could be a totally dark book. The crime scenes are pretty gruesome. I thought I had the ending figured out but I was totally wrong. There were a couple twists I didn't see coming. Thank you to net galley for an advanced readers copy. I would give this book 4 1/2 stars.
Another great mystery by the Johansens. The best thing about the book for me was that I had not predicted the ending. The area that I did not like was the somewhat obsessive use of the 'lust' storyline. The storyline of the lust of the two characters was good; the constant repetition was not. Appears like Iris wants to return to her romance novel roots. But once again a great book that I would recommend to all.
This was a very different and intriguing book. I'm definitely going to try and find the first four books in the series.
Fantastic read with twists and turns to keep the audience so engaged in these characters. Kendra's sense of observation is on high alert in this incredible book! A great read... I couldn't put it down and spent my afternoon totally immersed with this awesome book!
Good story with surprising twist. Great characters and interactions.
Well written, tense, interesting and well drawn characters makes this a good thriller for a plane ride. Strong women with a vulnerability gives this an added edge
I love this series and am looking forward to many more stories to follow. I really enjoy the characters and the story line. will be ordering this book for my mystery fans
This is a great read. You won't want to put it down and I love these characters. Kendra is funny and brilliant and sarcastic. Griffin is an ass but knows he needs her. Lynch cares for her and is her heroic counterpart. Jesse is the fun and seasoned friend and confidant. Olivia is her childhood friend and blind that is highly intelligent and independent. And they all keep me coming back over and over!
You've read the summary I'm sure, but if not read that for the storyline and just know that if you like a police drama/mystery with intelligent and fascinating characters this is the series for you. Never a dull moment!
I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Reading this book was just fantastic! This series is just amazing, and I really hope that it continues, because honestly, 5 books just isn't enough! Kendra is absolutely wonderful, and when you add in Lynch, well, fireworks go off from their sparks!
After that last book, I didn't know what to expect from their relationship. And neither did Kendra, I think. Especially since they hadn't seen each other since the last book ended-6 weeks ago or so, and minimal communication since then. So when they did come together (not physically, not yet!) I just wanted more!
One thing that I really love about this series, is Kendra's real job of music therapy. She has one client that is focused upon in this book-and Kendra helps him a lot. And that was really sweet and heart-wrenching! And the bad guy tried to use that against her, because he's evil!
Who the bad guy was, was very tricky! I mean, that he changed his M.O. as a serial killer at 4 different cities, and now is tying them all together? He was really smart and devious! Taking him down was very satisfying! I did guess who he was, because of a few clues, which made me feel smart! Yeah!
Absolutely fantastic book, I enjoyed it so much! I need more of this series!
Kendra Michaels was blind the first 20 years of her life. Thanks to revolutionary surgery, her eyesight was restored, leaving her with acute powers of observation. She uses these powers to help the FBI and CIA when needed.
There is a serial killer loose in San Diego ... so far there have been 3 murders and they all have a common thread ... there are objects of previous murder victims left with the current victims. Once Kendra starts her own investigation, she is wholly astounded to find a total of 26 murders ...all committed by the same killer over a span of decades.
Kendra is being specifically targeted by this killer for some unknown reason. And this killer is also going after anyone who is close to Kendra. So why has this killer come out from behind the woodwork after being hidden for so many years?
As law enforcement puts together a dream team of profilers and those who were involved in the very first cases come together, it's Kendra who finds the missing link.
Although 5th in this series, it does well as a stand alone. As always, I recommend starting at the beginning so as to not miss all those little nuggets of information so important to the story.
I really like the character of Kendra and her friend, Special Agent Lynch. He's known as the Puppetmaster for his ability to manipulate people to get what he wants/needs. There is a lot of tension between the two, but I like how they relate to each other. She's strong and doesn't take his guff. He's stronger, but dials back his personality for Kendra.
Olivia and Jessie, friends of Kendra's, play a huge part of the story. These ladies have terrific backstories and are quite interesting in themselves.
There's a lot of action ... some violence ... a bit of romance. And a twist at the end that took my totally by surprise!
Many thanks to the author / St. Martin's Press / Netgalley for the advanced digital copy of this book. Opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.
First off, I'm not answering what may be some readers first question. Lynch didn’t even show up until half way through the book. Which is neither here nor there as a clue.
Okay, back to the real review. This is a series featuring Kendra Michaels, who regained her sight after surgical intervention. Because of her amazing skills of observation from all of her senses, she is often called into consult by the FBI. She is a reluctant consultant, but her skills are key to solving serious crimes.
The crimes are horrific, the leads confusing, and the San Diego police and FBI office are baffled. Then it gets much worse. Everyone close to Kendra becomes a target. Because most of those targets love her and are as protective as she, they fight her attempts to cocoon them and from being there for her. Not a problem for the killer as it turns out. It's especially frustrating because Kendra's friends are such engaging well done characters. Never do I think of them as "Looks like plant food to me."
I am giving this book four stars mostly on the basis of the killer. What they discover about the souvenirs found at the crime scene is as chilling and original as I've come across in a serial-killer book in a long time.
Gather 'round for quibble time. Metcalfe, mid twenties and FBI agent-can't really happen. Twenty-three is minimum age and in truth, three years experience in one job is almost always required. Twenty-three for an FDLE agent? Almost impossible, unless things have changed radically since I left. Another quibble, if my life was in danger from a serial killer, you can be damn sure I would accept any help, the heck with being an independent man or woman. I’m talking to you Olivia, Jesse and even Adam.
The jacket description is spoiler city. Which is too bad, some of the pleasures of this book should have been left to the reading of the book.
Thank you to NetGalley for an ARC. I've been reading the Johansen(s) books since the beginning so this was a treat.
Excellent book. Great main characters and plot. I would recommend this book.
Blind for the first twenty years of her life, Kendra Michaels was given the gift of sight with a groundbreaking surgery and now works as a contractor for the FBI, using all her finely tuned senses to help solve crimes. Now, she’s been asked to track down a serial killer who leaves behind objects that were souvenirs from other unsolved homicides with each victim. Working alongside some of the best profilers in the business, Kendra attempts to uncover a sadistic killer. I was really glad when Johansen started a series that didn’t feature Eve Duncan. I love this author, but really feel that her earlier series has played itself out. Kendra is a fresh and intriguing protagonist who brings excitement back to Johansen’s books
Look behind you was an entertaining thriller but Iris Johansen her son Roy. They are talented writers who create stories that keep their readers involved to the end. They use sexual tension and various plots with surprise endings. I'm always ready for more of their books.
