PHYSICAL FORCES is book six in the K-9 RESCUE SERIES, and it didn’t disappoint. There’s one adventure after another with Oliver from BARKS showing up unexpectedly and helping Mac out, though she doesn’t want his help. He and Mac have an instant attraction even if they do start off on the wrong foot.
Mac is an accident waiting to happen. She’s barely making ends meet. She has no family or friends in the area and works for a PI finding and rescuing lost pets. Unfortunately, Mac gets into a lot of trouble doing it. There’s one mishap after another, but Mac is hellbent on finding out who’s spreading rumors that she first steals the dogs, then offers to find them.
She and Oliver work well together from the moment their paths first cross, but he goes all over the world to rescue people and animals after disasters strike. What could they possibly have in common?
The story is filled with friends and canines and a mystery that deepens. Be prepared for some violence and murder, along with a terrific romance. Some of Mac’s adventures definitely had my heart racing. The story flows nicely and is set in Florida, Hawaii, and Virginia. There is nice closure with a few loose ends. There’s a happily-ever-after I enjoyed, and I look forward to reading more books in this series.
I’ve only read book 5 so far, EXPLOSIVE FORCES, so I’ve a lot more books in this series to read. Ayres is a new-to-me author and I look forward to reading more of her books.
Great story by D.D.Ayres yet again!! Really thrilling read, great characters and an enjoyable story. Highly recommend to others!!
I had a lot of fun with this book! I have had a review copy of this book for a long time but somehow I always seemed to skip over it when it was time to pick up a new book. I really have no idea why it fell off my radar. I love romantic suspense even though I don't read a ton of it anymore. I also love books that have dogs worked into the story and animals play a huge part in this tale. I am so glad that I finally decided to give this book a try.
I really liked Macayla. I can't remember ever reading a book that featured a pet detective before but I loved that aspect of the story. Mac finds lost pets and seems to have a real knack for it. She is really great with animals and works hard to rescue them when they are lost and scared. She's made a few enemies by standing up for local animals but it is worth it in her eyes.
Mac meets Oliver while she is trying to coax a scared dog out from behind a dumpster. Oliver handles a K-9 Search and Rescue dog and is one of the owners of a company specializing in the task. He can't help but go to help the lady he sees hanging out by the dumpsters. Before a lot of time elapses, he jumps in to save the day and is pulled into the events happening in Mac's life.
I really liked Mac and Oliver together. I thought that they had great chemistry and were both very competent individuals. I liked that they were both able to help each other and they were both very willing to do so. Their relationship moved quickly but I thought that it felt realistic.
I would recommend this book to others. I thought that it was a really well done romantic suspense with great characters that both had intriguing backstories and a healthy enough dose of doggie antics to keep the animal lover in me happy. This book is the sixth book in the K-9 Rescue series but I had no issues reading it as a stand-alone although now I really want to go back and read some of the earlier books from this series.
I received a digital review copy of this book from St. Martin's Press via NetGalley.
Macayla Burkett is no ordinary private eye. She’s a pet detective, dedicated to tracking down missing dogs and cats. When two famous racing greyhounds disappear and turn up dead, Macayla finds herself in the midst of a much more serious case. And when the thieves target her and threaten her life, she realizes she’s in grave danger—until a ridiculously handsome stranger enters the picture …Oliver Kelly may look like a male stripper, but his muscles aren’t just for show. The gorgeous Australian is co-owner of a K-9 Search and Rescue service dedicated to saving those in danger. When he and his K-9 partner, an Australian shepherd named Jackeroo, rescue the fiery detective from trouble, the sparks begin to fly. And when they join forces to stop a widespread case of animal theft, it unleashes a torrent of passion that’s impossible to tame…
The book was really good. I loved both main characters as they went through the story. Both characters were well written. I really enjoyed the plot. It was a quick and easy read. I highly recommend.
**I voluntarily read and reviewed this book
So a series about one of my personal favorite combination—dogs and sexy heroes—could never be truly disappointing, but while I can say I liked this book and got a couple laughs out of these two’s antics, this story lacked a bit of the magic I got with the previous novels in the series. Set in an area I am more than a little familiar with and starring my kind of lady, I was happy to give Macayla and Oliver a chance, but there were just some moments that left me scratching my head and wondering what the hell was happening. Macayla has run into some hard times professionally and personally, but being mistaken for a homeless person eating from the trash is not something she planned for her day, but when the sexy Aussie and his partner come across her in a compromising situation the day begins to devolve into even more problems, if you can imagine it actually getting worse from there. Oliver is enjoying some downtime before he has to present to a group of his peers about the company he co-owns and certainly not looking for a distraction the size of Macayla and her troubles, but there is no denying she is interesting. He is intrigued enough to offer his assistance and soon finds himself wrapped up in her investigations, but at the end of the day he knows he’s not going to find a way to make her trust him with her secrets so quickly. But when she comes onto his turf and saves his ass in a big way, there is no way he’s going to let her get away from him. I liked Oliver, quite a bit, but there was not much of a personal connection for me; I know he is much more mature and serious than his laid-back Aussie attitude portrays, but maybe I was just missing that little something that would make him into a true hero for me. Macayla has a strong will and a certainty that her life will never be what it once was, which honestly made me a bit sad because she surely didn’t deserve the problems she was dealing with. There was just enough heat between them that I was able to believe that their love developed naturally, so that was a good thing. Overall this story, and the previous one, in this series was not up to the standards of the first few in the series, but hopefully soon we will get that magic back with whatever comes next. An enjoyable evening read for a cold winter night while a sexy Australian dog lover enjoys his beach time and finds himself falling in love with a crazy sexy pet detective.
Also not to be neglected was the sweet and beautiful Australian shepherd that was partnered with Oliver. Aptly named Jackeroo, this sweet and loving dog made the story even more memorable and lived up to his breed and his name.
Sorry I was not able to read you book but it went to archive before I could get to it. Sorry once again.
I really love this series and that s was another great installment.
I love the K-9 Rescue series by D D Ayres. Each book is filled with suspense and people who handle extraordinary canines. Physical Forces is another fast-paced addition to the series with a tough and strong female lead who is searching for two valuable greyhounds and finds herself in danger. She meets Oliver, a co-owner of K9 Search and Rescue who comes to her aide as she tries to catch the dog theft ring. There is a lot of danger and a sexy connection between Mac and Oliver, the story is well-paced and I love the smart canine companions too. I hope there are more stories to come in this long-time favorite series.
I like how Ayres includes dogs into these romantic suspenses, but I wish the suspense was a little more ... suspenseful. Good writing and a good storyteller, but I wanted to bite my nails a little more.
Really enjoyed Mac and Oliver and the story written by an author i havent read before. I found it to be fast paced, enjoyable and adventure a-plenty. Lots of suspense mixed in with the adventure and I loved the idea about a pet detective. Really enjoyed as it was something out of the ordinary for me.
This is my first book by Ayres. It also happens to be book six in A K-9 Rescue Series. This s the story of Macayla “Mac” who’s a pet detective and Oliver a K-9 Search and Rescue operative. The teasing banter, sexy flirting and comedy between the two were what made the book so good. After finishing Physical Forces, I had to go back and pick up the other books just to see what I missed. I am happy to say I have found a new one click author. I cannot wait to read my next one.
While Mac is tracing down her newest case things start going awry. But luckily a sexy Aussie, whom she mistakenly assumes is a stripper, and his dog show up to help. But things start getting really messy, if she can rely on Oliver, she might be able to survive everything whole.
I had a hard time getting into this novel, but Mac is such an interesting character that you can't help but want to know what happens next. By the time I got into the novel I was completely hooked. The characters are funny and honest. I only wish that Oliver's K-9 could have played a larger role.
If you haven't read this series. I really advise it. It's become one of my go to's when I'm looking for something to read.
I'm a huge fan of romantic suspense books and a even bigger fan of dogs, so when you combine the two I'm a super happy reader.
The heroine, Macayla, is a pet detective and she's working on a case of two missing Greyhounds. The case turns dangerous and she's ends up getting assistance from Oliver who does K-9 search and rescue. The story then becomes a fast paced adventure with some sexy scenes and a sweet romance.
This is the sixth book in the series but I didn't realize that when I agreed to review it. It wasn't a problem though and the book worked just fine as a standalone. I enjoyed this a lot and will go back and read the others in the series also.

Physical Forces is book 6 of D.D. Ayres' K-9 Rescue series. It is a complete standalone and can be enjoyed as such. It took me a little bit to connect to this book and it's characters, but when I did it was with a huge bang. The plot was highly unique making it even more intriguing and page turning with Ms. Ayres usual penchant for having her dogs be a huge focus.
I look forward to the next book in this series and see what she has cooked up for us. She keeps me on my toes with each new book. Her characters are always fresh and fun. Oliver and Macayla have been a fun couple to get to know. I would definitely recommend this book to all who enjoy a suspense, romance and dog filled fun book.
New to me author Ms. Ayres pulls me into this romantic suspense. On a lark, I accepted the book to read because it involved K-9. As a dog lover, I can not resist reading books involving K-9 unites. This one is definitely a keeper and now I'm intrigued and want to read the rest of this series.
The story starts off in a humourous scene with Macayla Burkett trying to rescue a runaway dog. Helping her out is Oliver Kelly who is renown in the K-9 world but unrecognized by Macayla. When Macayla's job of rescuing pets takes a nasty turn, it is a good thing Oliver is there to help.
This story kept my attention because it had so many twists and turns. It kept me guessing as to how it would end and who the villains would be. I like being kept in the dark as Macayla tries to solve who is targeting her. I felt badly for Macayla because she is a woman whose heart has been broken by the loss of her dog. She just wants to have a quiet life but her dedication to save dogs (because really, humans are assholes) puts her in the path of ruthless killers.
I am disturbed by this book because I am much softer when it comes to animals being tortured. Under no circumstances is it ever okay to torture and kill a dog. Ms. Ayres hits upon sensitive points as she reveals the nasty underbelly of racing and dog fighting. I've never agreed with either so to read about the devastating cruelty perpetrated upon innocent animals is a bit too much for me. Torture and kill a human any day, but when it happens to a dog (or any other animal), I just lose it. (John Wick anyone?)
The suspense in this story is well done and keeps me at the edge of my proverbial seat. The conclusion comes all too soon for me yet it is immensely satisfying. This romantic suspense is recommended to all dog lovers.
I really like this series. It has great characters...and dogs! What a great combination!!! Macayla Burkett is a pet detective. Yes, I said a pet detective. I know what you're thinking. What exactly does she do, stalk fluffy and try to catch him with the neighbor's cat??? She actually finds missing pets and returns them to their owners. Much better right?! Well, while on a hot case she runs into hot and sexy Oliver who works in K-9 search and rescue. Needless to say, sexy sparks fly.
The reason I like this series is it is a fun and fresh read. You won't be pondering life's mysteries like why good things happen to bad people or why the Kardashians won't go away???? I mean seriously, they need to go away. Oh well, I digress. The point of this book is a great story with lovable characters. There's plenty of action to keep the story line progressing. Not much character growth, but it's not really needed. This book, along with the other books in the series, are fun reads perfect for that summer reading list.
Honestly Physical Forces didn't work for me. I actually had to DNF it at about 48%. I just couldn't connect with the heroine and didn't like she wasn't being honest with the hero.
Wonderfully written, suspenseful, romantic dream come true! Physical Forces has it all...great characters, a sinfully amazing hero and and a fantastic heroine. I loved the banter the scenes and most definitely the sizzling sexual chemistry. This story took my breath away and had me on the edge. I can't wait for more!
I was lucky enough that I got a copy of this book through NetGalley, in exchange for a review, which I am as always happy to provide. Now normally I would devour that kind of book but it took me just a bit to get into the storyline. Though it had everything you would want, lots of dogs and interesting characters but somehow I felt it lacked a bit of chemistry between our main characters. The pacing was a bit slow at the beginning and I would have loved more interactions between them, but it did heat up eventually with some steamy love making, a little bit of mystery and some action. Overall it was a nice read, but it won't make my list of books that I love to read over and over again.
