Let me say almost from the beginning I was hooked especially when Oliver said "Crikey" ... Aussie accents, words and mannerisms get me every time. There is a lot of action in PHYSICAL FORCES as it starts out with missing dogs, Mac witnessing a dangerous situation that has her being framed and from there it builds to a fascinating finish. But, intermixed in all this investigation is an amazing couple who were also busily examining the "love at first sight" that neither of them was expecting. I enjoyed the way Oliver and Mac talked to each other, they were saying things that needed to be said that cleared up any miscommunication and getting to know each other completely. He was more of a free spirited person, who was willing to go on a search and rescue job at the drop of a hat and she, a stickler for rules and regulations. There is a lot of depth to these two and as you read you will find that despite any differences they were meant to be together. Their dialogue together and with others added humor to this storyline that broke up the tense atmosphere. The bad guys came as a surprise to me and I am usually very good at picking them, but author D.D. Ayres gave a few neat little twist there at the end. You have to love the twisted roads and surprises that come and when you have time you think you say "oh, that's right! How'd I miss that."

In PHYSICAL FORCES you will find a hunk with a sexy accent and protective streak, a heroine who tries to play by the rules but falls anyway, rescue and rescued dogs, a sweet romance with the perfect amount of sizzle and a few nifty twists at the end. In other words a book that will leave you wanting more.

Physical Forces is another installment of D.D. Ayres’ K-9 Rescue Series but it is a standalone read. This time, the focus is on Search and Rescue Guru and Aussie Oliver Kelly who becomes enamored with Pet Detective Macayla “Mac” Burkett while he is in Florida to speak at a SAR conference. Thinking that Mac is a damsel in distress, Oliver quickly comes to her rescue and soon learns that the petite and outspoken woman is nothing like the women that usually throw themselves at his feet. She doesn’t want his help and actually believes that he is a member of an Australian Exotic Dance Troupe. Although they clearly have some physical attraction to each other, Mac makes a failed attempt to keep Oliver at bay. More importantly, we soon find out that Mac’s life is in danger and she is being set-up to take the fall for crimes she didn’t commit.

The overall premise of Physical Forces isn’t unique. The only thing that stops it from being totally cliché is the fact that it was at least a very fun book to read. Both Mac and Oliver have some secrets in their past that eventually come up to the surface which allow them to get closer to each other. Things happen so fast that it’s not totally believable, considering the way that they met. Oliver allowed himself to be vulnerable with Mac and she opened up to him and stopped hiding from who she was. To take things up a notch, most of the sex occurs outside of a bedroom and is definitely hot. There is a little bit of mystery and suspense to add to the story and I didn’t exactly like the way that it all wrapped up. I felt like Oliver’s character and his expertise should have played a larger role but…I did enjoy Physical Forces but I felt like it could have had a little more depth to it. I have read a few other books in this series which I felt were more complete.

I had high hopes after reading Book 5 in the series but there was nothing interesting about it to really recommend this one.

I only read Explosive Forces, Book 5, of the series so I don’t know all the characters. I am presuming that we have seen Oliver Kelly before, at least in Rival Forces, Book 4, which featured his partner in the Search and Rescue business. Maybe if I had met Oliver in a prior book, I would have been more excited for this story.

As it is, I had to look up the character names in order to write this review since they were so unmemorable. Oliver is a big name in canine search and rescue but we don’t get to see him do too much with his dog in this story. Oliver is forced to take his partner’s place and give a speech at a SARs convention in Florida. Oliver doesn’t want to do it. He is afraid of public speaking (isn’t everyone?). We also learn (cue dramatic music) that Oliver is dyslexic and never learned to read so he can’t make notes for himself.

Macayla, who is barely making ends meet as an animal private investigator, which means she finds lost pets. Her big success as a P.I. comes from searching for days where the animal was last seen and asking people if they have seen the animal until she tracks down the frightened and hungry pets.

Several people tell her that they heard on the street that she is actually kidnapping the dogs and then returning them for a fee on top of the ransom she is demanding. It takes the police arresting her after she returns a dog she tracked down which had actually been stolen from the owner. Of course the police buy the story and grill her like she’s the next Lex Luther, criminal mastermind, even with no evidence but some rumors.

Oliver presumes that Mac is a homeless woman dumpers diving for food, when she is actually trying to coax a small dog out from under said dumpster. Mac mistakes Oliver for being in town as one of the dancers in the Thunder from Down Under male review. By the end, the man who never had a second date wants her to move to Hawaii with him and work in his business, and everyone is so happy that he has any thought about a woman for more than five minutes. Ah, true love!

This definitely had a happy for now ending to it. Unfortunately, I found nothing very interesting to the story. The only interesting character was the dog and he didn’t come into it often for a SAR dog. The story was readable, so I didn’t toss it, but I couldn’t wait to finish it, and not in a good way.

Really enjoyed this book, I live in Pinellas County where the story takes place so it was pretty neat to see the detail written into to book about the area. Loved the story line and the characters and was glad to see Oliver and Macayla get together in the end.

It's an ok story. But for me, I found it slow at times, and just wasn't there for me, I found myself trudging thru it. Macaulay is a pet detective, she rescues lost animals. Oliver works for a search and rescue unit and he has a faithful K-9 partner named Jackeroo. The first time they meet, Mac mistakes Oliver for a stripper, he is that "hot", and he thinks she was a bag lady, diving for food, this part was actually funny. Then we get to more serious issues, then Macayla is accused of pet napping, we have other scenarios, but my interest just was not really there.

Macayla Burkett is a private detective of the pet variety. A near death experience made her change her profession. When she's hired to recover three racing greyhounds, it ends badly. Now someone is setting her up to take the fall for stealing dogs. Can she find out who before she ends up in jail? At least she has Oliver Kelly and Jackeroo, his K-9, on her side. I enjoyed this action packed and suspenseful adventure. The characters are so full of life that that they leap of the page. I love their banter. Mac and Oliver are an amazing couple. I liked watching their battle of wills. They are equals. The mystery is the icing on the cake. I couldn't put down Physical Forces. The ending was a shocker. I never saw it coming. This book is a great addition to the K-9 Rescue series.

Physical Forces is book 6 in the K-9 Rescue series by D.D. Ayres and the first book I’ve read by this author. The book can be read as a standalone.
A pet detective and a partner in a K-9 search and rescue company. What’s not to love about that? Or about the way they initially meet. I laughed so hard. LOL!
I found both Macayla and Oliver likable and their actions and reactions believable considering their backstories. And I loved the close bond between Oliver and his Australian shepherd and K-9 partner, Jackeroo.
Though the story started out a bit slow, it really gained momentum as it progressed. I was quite surprised to find out who was the guilty party when it came to the mystery part of the story.

This is #6 in the K-9 Rescue series.  I have not read the others in this series.  This book had a lot.  Great writing.  Real characters.  Suspenseful.  Humor.  Romance.

Macayla is a pet detective.  She is dedicated to finding lost dogs and cats.  She is pulled into a mystery about 2 famous racing greyhounds, who have disappeared and are found dead.  Oliver Kelly is in town for a conference with his partner, Jackeroo.

If you are looking for a romance with a bit of suspense and who done it, then this book is it!!

While I liked the premise of this book it just didn't live up to what kept my attention. After trying to read several times, it just wasn't something I enjoyed.

My first DD Ayres book was a great intro into the K-9 Rescue series! The Hot Aussie and an unusual heroine made this story easy to read. Oliver's issue was accepted fully by Macayla which makes me happy. She was so accepting and empathetic. I would definitely read more from Ms. Ayres.

Physical Forces (K-9 Rescue #6) by D.D. Ayres , is the latest book in the series. The characters are simple and not very complex, although both Oliver and Macayla have personal secrets that they hide. I had a hard time connecting with Macayla in the beginning of the book, but as the story developed I found that quickly changed. I loved Oliver from the get go.

The writing is descriptive, with several themes adding dimension to the overall story. The chemistry between Oliver and Macayla, almost seemed like “insta-love” vs a slow build up with some tension. Neither character was looking for that special someone, and what could have been a one-nighter with an outa-towner turned into so much more.

The story is complete, no cliff hangers, there’s a bit of humor along the way, no excessive violence and reminded me of a Hallmark movie. I enjoyed the story, and wish to thank the Author, Netgalley and St. Martin's Paperbacks, for the ARC, in exchange for an honest review.

The book’s publication date was May 30th, 2017 and is available in Kindle and paperback.

For me this was a 3 star read.

Well I definitely need me an Aussie! I mean the accent alone would do it but I think having Oliver around would be quite great! He is charming, kinds, and an dog person which is a win in my book. Mac is pretty awesome too! She is driven to help and at the moment her only focus is animals. Though her past is bringing her some strife in the present about her current focus. The two together are good together. They mesh well and they have some hot chemistry happening. They lift each other up on their weaknesses and praise each other on their strengths.

The story is easy to read and well written and pulls you in, especially if you're an animal lover in general.

For series order hopping, I definitely didn't feel like I was missing anything too important. This story is a standalone and you don't NEED to read the previous ones to know what is going on.

Post goes live 9 JUNE

Mac is a PI with a specialty in finding lost pets. She doesn’t like to be the hero, even though she is. When sexy Aussie Oliver sees her and thinks she is a homeless person looking for food, he can’t help but fall of her when he realizes she is a normal woman who loves animals almost as much as he does. The chemistry and dynamic between the two is off the charts HOT and the banter between them is just as good!

I’ve been a HUGE fan of the author’s K-9 Rescue series and this story did not let me down. It’s full of suspense, humor, love, sex, and a few characters from the previous books. The deep feelings Oliver has for Mac not only overwhelm him, but they surprise him, too. Mac tries to keep her cool and keep him at arm’s length, but he won her heart the instant he entered her world and there was no turning back for the couple.

As always, the star of the story was Oliver’s K-9 rescue dog, Jackeroo. The pup plays an integral part in the story and stole the show more than a few times. I LOVE seeing the dogs have such an important part in the story!!

Overall, this is a GREAT read and addition to the series and I hope there are more to come!

Oliver is an Aussie who is working and finds himself entangled with Macayla. He is intrigued by her, respects what she does, and is also kind of baffled by her. He has a sexy accent and a killer body. He also knows how to search out and find people in dire situations.

Macayla is a hero who doesn't want to be known as a hero. She wants to live her life and find missing animals. However, in the process of locating prized greyhounds, she witnesses a murder.

What ensues is a tale that's twisted, romantic, messy, and fun. The two characters are different but attracted to each other, and they find that their ability to think alike, love animals, and throw themselves into dangerous situations is what might keep them together.

My very first read of D.D Ayres and hasn’t been disappointing, yet “Physical Forces” is definitely missing a spark.

The concept of a pet detective seems novel and add in a K-9 Search and Rescuer to the equation, the plot is good, the concept is neat, but I missed the chemistry between Macayla Burkett and Oliver Kelly and that emotional connection of a pair that would jump off the pages of the book. Individually I liked them both.

“Physical Forces” is a one time read for me. Would I entertain reading D. D Ayers again? Absolutely. Like I said, narration was good, storyline was entertaining, just the wow factor was missing for me.

It was so fantastic in every way!

Macayla Burkett is a pet detective working at a private investigator firm in Florida. She has accumulated a heap of trouble through no fault of her own. Macayla is complicated, admirable, and relatable. Oliver Kelley and his search and rescue dog Jackeroo are in town for a conference. He is Australian, intelligent, funny, chivalrous, loves his dog, and is totally hot. Oliver even has cute slang and an accent. In addition, he has a surprising vulnerability that just makes me love him more.

It blew my mind how great this book was in every single way. The vivacious and intelligent characters had a sense of humor. The trouble in which Macayla was embroiled was fascinating. There were fantastically gripping suspense seems. I felt McKayla's fear in a visceral way. In addition, the chemistry between the two characters was off the charts HOT, but I like how they did not immediately fall into bed together. The dialogue was all superb. There were lots of sensory details that made everything feel real. Every new page had something that glued me to the page. I loved how the author arranged words. I had a mind meld with the book, and my eyes just flew across the pages. I did not want to put it down, and I complained when my real life took me away from my Kindle and "Physical Forces". Every single romance reader needs to read this book, or else you are really missing out on something special.

I stumbled across this book while I was browsing on Netgalley, and I am so glad that I did. This is the first book by D.D Ayres that I have read, and I am so extremely pleased and entertained by this book. D.D. Ayres has joined my list of favorite authors, and I can't wait to read the previous and forthcoming books in this series.

I received a free advanced reading copy from the publisher via Netgalley, and I voluntarily wrote this honest review.

I have never read a canine detective mystery before and I'm glad Physical Forces by D.D. Ayres was my first! I know I'm reading out of order but I couldn't pass not diving into this book. The suspense left me on the edge of my seat, and the romance was oh so delectable. Excited to start reading more from this author.

LOVE TO THE RESCUE

Macayla Burkett is no ordinary private eye. She’s a pet detective, dedicated to tracking down missing dogs and cats. When two famous racing greyhounds disappear and turn up dead, Macayla finds herself in the midst of a much more serious case. And when the thieves target her and threaten her life, she realizes she’s in grave danger—until a ridiculously handsome stranger enters the picture …

Oliver Kelly may look like a male stripper, but his muscles aren’t just for show. The gorgeous Australian is co-owner of a K-9 Search and Rescue service dedicated to saving those in danger. When he and his K-9 partner, an Australian shepherd named Jackeroo, rescue the fiery detective from trouble, the sparks begin to fly. And when they join forces to stop a widespread case of animal theft, it unleashes a torrent of passion that’s impossible to tame…

Review:

I read the first book in the series and then somehow missed all the other books in between that and this the sixth book in the series. I really liked both I am not sure what happened with me.

I really liked and felt sorry for Macayla. To lose your partner and dog was traumatic and sets her on a course to find herself again. That she is strong and vulnerable all at the same time made her a great character in my book. Then there is Oliver, other than a man-bun (I just can't get in on that trend), what is there not to like? He is a rescuer, loves animals, has a sexy accent and is a stripper...lol...just kidding. Though if you read the book you will get what I mean. The story has a fun side to it besides the emotion, sexy and action woven throughout it. The many facets made this a more interesting story. The one thing I have to say is-I did figure out who was behind the mystery going through the story, but other than that, it was an entertaining read.

4Stars
