Physical Forces by D. D. Ayres is the final book in her K-9 Rescue series. I am sorry to see this series finish as it's been a great ride. This one includes a woman with an unusual job, pet detective, and a gorgeous Australian self-made winner.

I admired the heroine, Macayla Burkett, as she has overcome a very traumatic experience in her previous career in child services. She walked away and never looked back as she re-invented herself. Oliver Kelly has dyslexia but was treated shabbily by his father because of it. He left home at 16 by joining the service. He learned to read and write while in the service as well as developing his love of dogs. He is co-owner with Kye McGarren of BARKs which travels all over the world to provide search and rescue services. These two people were made for each other.

The plot was steady paced with Ms. Ayres taking her time to let readers get to know Macayla and Oliver. I liked that she provided points of view from both Oliver and Macayla throughout the story. The plot against Macayla was complex and I was totally glued to the pages to find out what exactly was happening and why. The reveal was thrilling but I smiled (although terrified for Macayla) as Jackeroo tried to save her. I want to thank Ms. Ayres for another wonderful adventure with the men and women of the SAR community.

I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book from St. Martin's Press via NetGalley. All of the above opinions are my own.

I was invited to read this book by the publisher, I enjoyed the story and I felt it flowed well enough to the end.
The heroine, she's a little naïve and is likeable, she has a fair bit a BS to get through.
The hero, he is AUSTRALIAN!!! Bearded,.. do I need to say more.I wanted more of him.
overall cute story!

Physical Forces by D.D. Ayres
K-9 Rescue #6

Having read the blurb for this book I thought of other canine detective cozy mysteries I have read and knew that this book would not be like any of those. Why? Because the author of this series deals with issues that are a bit more intense and a whole lot more real. So, with that said and knowing I have liked every book I have read by this author, I was more than ready to read and enjoy this story – and I did just that while getting to know Mac and Oliver and Oliver’s K-9 partner, Jackeroo.

Macayla “Mac” Burkett is a Pet Detective/PI who finds lost, runaway and abducted domestic animals. She is very good at what she does but takes on other side jobs to augment her income. When Oliver Kelly, Australian co-owner of *BARKS, and Mac first lay eyes on one another they both make assumptions that are dead wrong about who/what the other person is. From their first encounter to Oliver’s stepping in to help Mac out of a situation or two and then her return of the favor later on when he faces something he is dreading they seem to have an affinity and attraction that is rather strong – though neither really expects more than a brief encounter due to the limited time Oliver is in town. Add into this the fact that someone is setting Mac up for dog-napping, extortion, the fact that her life is in danger and other issues from the past that they are both dealing with and you end up with a complex well written novel that is action-packed, intriguing and at times steamy. Catching up with some of the characters (briefly) from previous books was also fun. I am hopeful this will not be the last book in the series because I want to know that this HFN story has a HEA ending in the future…along with wanting to read another K-9 Rescue love story.

Thank you to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the ARC – this is my honest review.

This was a surprisingly cute story about a pet detective, Macayla, who witnesses a murder while searching for greyhound racing dogs. Now she has someone trying to frame her and the very sexy Oliver comes to her rescue.

It started out as just a cute story that turned into more towards the end. Oliver is part of a big shot, search and rescue team. He's in town for a conference and finds Mac crawling around a dumpster. He mistakes her for a bag lady searching for food when really she's just trying to coax out the terrified Pomeranian who's been missing from his family. That leads to him defending her against the punk kids beating up her car to him trying to help her solve who's framing her.

I liked this story a lot more than I thought I would. I first thought the story was fun but a bit silly. The more I read the more it sucked me in. The story got more deep and the sex scene in the ocean was bold and impressive.

This is a series but can be read as a standalone. ARC provided by NetGalley.

Macayla (Mac) Burkett is a pet detective. She hasn’t always been one. She has a past that has left her emotionally scarred and caused her to distance herself from people. She is passionate about her job.

Oliver Kelly is Australian (love that accent!) and a world renown K-9 Search and Rescue trainer. He is a self-made man who overcame a learning disability. He is kind, loyal and very hard working. Loved that he is very tall and has long hair and a beard! Jackeroo, his K-9 partner, is awesome.

When these two meet, he thinks she’s a bag lady and she thinks he’s a stripper with the Aussie male review.

We spend more time with Mac by herself than with them together. As with the last book, these two need to spend more time together. The ending is abrupt. Nothing was settled, just kind of thrown out there as a possibility. I was like WTH?! I wanted and expected so much more. There is more suspense than romance.

This is my third book in this series. The stories aren’t bad, they just need more development. And this one felt a little choppy.

It's been rare over the last few months that I have been able to give a book 5 stars. If I could give more for this one I would. Absolutely loved the slow burn romance and the strong characters. It was ACE VENTURE all over again only with more class and a deep seated respect

This book had plenty of dogs, a hot Australian hero, a heroine that doesn’t want to be consider heroic, and plenty of mystery.

Oliver finds Mac dumpster diving and assumes the worst. She is aware that the Thunder from Down Under are in town for a show and she absolutely does not want anything to do with him. Unfortunately for her, she can’t get rid of him as trouble seems to keep popping up all around her.

This was a relatively slow book and the first half was hard to feel the connection between them. As the story progresses I became a bit more invested but to be honest there were plenty of places where I skimmed. I wanted to love this book. I mean, who wouldn’t? It has dogs! And a hot Australian! Perhaps I just wasn’t in the right head space for it.

There is a pretty good little mystery and I was surprised to a certain degree when the culprit was revealed. Characters from a previous book had a few cameo scenes which you may enjoy if you’ve read that story. It was just an average read for me and I hate saying that but there it is.

4.75 Hearts OH, How I enjoyed this book! But I have to say I am so mad at myself. I read the first 2 books in the series and then requested this story and realized it is #6!!! What?!?!?! How did I miss the last 3 books? Boy am I aggravated!

So here is what I enjoyed about Mac. Almost everything! She is a little spitfire when she needs to be but yet there is something soft about her. It is not that she is overly feminine or made to sound incapable, it is more that she seems to know when to fight the battle and when to fight the war. When it comes to animals she will fight the war with all she is worth but when it comes to herself, maybe the battle can wait.

And now there is Oliver. I enjoyed him very much. He is written with a great sense of humor and a great sense of self. He knows he is good looking and uses it to his benefit but he is not written to be an egotistical jerk. He is quick witted and made me smile a number of times with his lines. But like all of us he hides a secret and (no spoilers here) it is one that I am glad was addressed and in such a great way.

Now as I write this next paragraph keep in mind that I gave it almost 5 Hearts/Stars, but there were a few things that just didn’t mesh including the texting (this will make sense later) but if a line about using special apps had been added it would have meshed a bit more. And the last chapter…. Something was just off about it. I would have given it 5 Hearts/Stars except for this last chapter. It seemed too rushed and out of character for both of them. I wished I had stopped at the last word of the chapter twenty seven.

One last thing… I am glad the subject of dog racing was brought up and explained to the readers. I grew up in Florida and dog racing is still big (but not as big as it used to be) and can be a very hard life for dogs. This story brought up the problems without shoving it down your throat.

Physical Forces by D.D Ayers in the sixth book in the authors K-9 Rescue series. I have read three of them all as stand alone and out of order without any problems, this story is Macayla, Oliver and Jackaroo's story. Although, the story took awhile to build towards the ending there's a dramatic conclusion which makes up for it.

Macayla Burkett finds lost pets and returns them to their owners for a small fee. Until she gets called to find two racing Greyhounds she's hoping she can reach in time. However, she comes across a possible murder in progress and later finds the dogs dead the owner starts spreading rumors of a pet napping and a extortion scheme. When she meets, handsome Australian Oliver who's a K-9 Search and Rescue team little does she know that her life as she knows it change forever. She has bills to pay and with no jobs coming in plus being questioned by the police she'll turn to Oliver for help and TLC.

Oliver Kelly co-owner of BARKS specialized Search & Rescue and is in St. Petersburg for a conference when he meets Macayla trying to convince a dog from under a dumpster. But when they find two guys bashing in her car, he decides to protect Mac. There is an instant attraction that becomes a slow burn eventually as the help each other with their fears and Oliver will do anything to rescue Mac when she's kidnapped.

I had high hopes for this addition to the series but felt a little lost at times however I'd still give it 4 stars.

Can you move on from the past?. Macayla knows that she likes what she is doing but she still wishes for her old life. Oliver needs to overcome his fear of public talking, can he find the one to help him do that? They both find that they can help each other now that someone is after Mac, she saw someone get shot but she never saw who did it but the killer isn't too sure so it is time for her to be die. Can Oliver help Mac stay alive and get through this and just maybe have a shot at a relationship as this isn't a short term fling? Mac knows that she will get through this but she needs Oliver and his strength as she feels safer when his is around. The killer hasn't given up yet and just when she thinks that she is safe, the killer strikes. Will Mac survive this time? A good story.

Macayla is a pet detective who is looking for 2 greyhounds who have been kidnapped from the local track. She is outside the house they are in when she accidentally sees a murder. She takes the video to the police but, since there is no body and, she cannot ID the murderer, they are blowing her off. Macayla tends to be a magnet for trouble, which is how she meets Oliver, an Aussie god who is determined to protect her while in the process of actively seducing her. Oliver is the co-owner of K9 Search & Rescue and, in town for a convention. He follows Macayla around, pulling her out of frequent dangerous situations, seducing her and, they are slowly breaking down the solid walls they have built around themselves over the years. This was a fast-paced, action-packed, roller coaster ride of emotions that keep you fascinated to the very end. Oliver is also my new book boyfriend. He just doesn't know it!

If you love dogs, hot men (this one an Aussie) and a bit of a mystery, then this book is for you. In fact, this series is for you. I have read all of the books and loved them all. I like how the characters in these books are not perfect – they are far from it – even Oliver and Macayla. The story draws you into their emotions and fears. Lovely scene where Macayla is helping Oliver overcome his fear of public speaking. Once again the dog, Jackeroo, is a highlight of the story. I hope there are more books in their series.

This was a cute story with dogs. I enjoyed Mac and Oliver, but Jackeroo stole the entire book for me. I fell so hard for that fella. It was fun, smart, sexy and had a very interesting suspense filled plot. Not my favorite book ever but I did enjoy my first run in with the K-9 Rescue team.

PHYSICAL FORCES by D.D. Ayres grabbed me right away because it is located in the Tampa/St. Pete area and I have been to most of the places mentioned in the story....Derby Lane...the beaches...I love eating at Crabby Bill's....the only part I sort of didn't like was the portrayal of the Pinellas Park Police Department..PPPD...I know it was needed in the story ...it's just that my son is a Sgt. in that department... Oliver and Macayla (Mac) are cute together and I love the idea of K-9 Rescue and the great work they do. I got my HEA and a great read.

I enjoyed this one! It's a bit different and slightly silly at times but it was very entertaining. Macayla Burkett is working as a pet detective. What exactly is a pet detective you ask? She spends her days looking for lost pets and returning them to their owners. While searching for missing greyhounds, she witnesses a violent incident. She doesn't realize how much trouble she's stumbled upon until she finds herself as a target. Oliver Kelly is a world renowned SAR specialist. When he first sees Macayla digging through the dumpster he assumes she's hungry and offers to buy her breakfast. The reality is she's trying to coax a pup out into the open. Macayla takes one look at Oliver and assumes he's a male stripper. And this is how their fun and crazy relationship starts. It's all fun until they both realize that Macayla is in danger.

I have to admit being from Tampa it was fun reading about all the places around the area. Still the story itself was entertaining and I would recommend this one.

This book started out fabulous! It had mystery that got my immediately engaged and two loveable main characters. Although an unlikely pair, Mac and Oliver had great chemistry and entertaining banter between them. Up to a point in the story, there was a perfect amount of romance and mystery but the romance eventually fizzled out. The last 25% of the book lost me and I found it disappointing. The spark that was there in the beginning seemed to disappear at least for one side of the relationship. I just expected more from the ending. It was abrupt and fell completely flat for me.

First time reading the author and I was pleasantly surprised. After the initial confusion in the beginning of getting a handle on the main character the author has you with the story. Come on hunky Australian guy coming to the reduce of a down on her luck woman, what's not to like. Thrown in the mistaken identity for a laugh and you want to know what happens next. Bring on the sex and intrigue, the broken hero and Dogs for a well rounded story. And this book had no issues reading without the preceding books in the series, which is always a bonus.

Great story line. The writer grabs the reader right from page 1 and takes them on a fast paced journey until the end. "Mac" used to be a social worker for Florida - but one court room, one angry parent and a gun changed everything for her. Now she is a P. I. for missing pets. She finds missing dogs and cats for a finders fee. She has lately been accused of stealing the pets and then forcing the owners to pay a finders fee to return them safely. She and her boss know that she did not do it, but others question if they can really trust Mac. Mac has a run in with the local friends of one of her neighbors - as they total her car. She is rescued by Oliver and his dog Jackaroo (part or a SAR search and rescue dog team).. Mac thinks Oliver is part of "Thunder from Down Under" group (a strip tease group from Australia). She is arrested and now has to fight to stay out of jail. Oliver bites the bullet and realizes he has found true happiness with Mac. Together the two of them investigate why someone is out to frame Mac for something she didn't do.

I liked this story, its characters (including the dog, Jackeroo) and setting, the author wrapped it all up (including the Florida weather conditions) nicely.
The heroine, Macayla, is likable, a bit naive and not the usual glamorous stunning woman. She’s still dealing with a recent tragic event and a loss. I was completely surprised by her job and enjoyed that part.
I loved the hero, Oliver, but missed having more of him (and less of the heroine). He’s an Australian big man, bearded and with long hair. He’s loyal, charming and confident, but has this secret that makes him nervous in certain circumstances and that was cute (of course, the heroine saves the day). A hunk showing vulnerability is, well… endearing.
While I liked the suspense part with all its dog-related matters, I’d have preferred a romantic plot more developed. However, I appreciated the fact that while the hero hasn’t had significant relationships before, he acknowledges his feelings for the heroine and there are no needless misunderstandings between them.

Physical Forces by D.D. Ayres is the 6th book in her K-9 Rescue series. Macayla (Mac), our heroine, is a pet detective. She works for a PI firm, and usually handles missing or kidnapped pets.
Oliver Kelly, our hero, is an Australian hunk, who happens to be in town for a seminar. While walking with his K-9 dog, Jackeroo, he spots a girl in the dumpster. When he offers help, Mac eyes him carefully, thinking that due to his physique, he has to be a stripper from the local bar. In a short time, Oliver finds out that Mac is trying to catch a missing dog, and helps her. After a bit, Mac will learn that Oliver owns BARKS, a famous K-9 Search and Rescue service. Needless to say, even if their original perceptions were off, their immediate attraction to each other was not. What follows is a slow build romance with a couple that had sizzling chemistry, which does take a back seat, as a mystery moves forefront
.
After two show dogs are found dead, Mac finds herself in trouble, since someone is trying to frame her. She depends on her boss, Jefferina and Oliver to help her find the real culprits and absolve her. Oliver will also learn that Mac was not always a pet detective, but instead a hero. A year before working for child services, she saved the life of a young child; but after getting shot and losing her dog in the process, Mac left it all behind.
The last half of the book escalated the mystery behind who was framing Mac, and who was behind the dog napping, which also picked up on the excitement, as well as danger element of the story. I liked both Mac and Oliver, they were fun together. I also liked Oliver’s K-9 dog, Jackeroo, but until the end, he did not play a big part in this story. The ending was suspenseful and exciting, as Mac finds herself in mortal danger. Will she survive? Will Oliver convince Mac to become part of his life and be what she was meant to do?

I am a fan of this series by D.D. Ayres, and Physical Forces was an excellent addition to the series. If you enjoy romance, dogs, suspense, then you should read this series.
