This book was a quick and enjoyable read, but wasn't particularly believable as far as plot goes. I enjoyed it very much at the time I was reading it, but already, can't remember a ton of details about it. Oliver was a thoughtful and kind man wrapped in a rough and tough exterior.
I received an early copy in exchange for an honest review. fun story. Mac had a deep love for animals and focuses deeply on her job. Oliver comes to her rescue and tries to convince Mac she needs his help and acknowledge the chemistry brewing between them.
Having come into this series with this book, I'm so intrigued and
captivated by this author's writing that I find I need to go back and read the previous books. Even though not having read the other books in the series, my enjoyment of the story was never hammered.
Oliver and Mac were such an interesting pair that I loved them immensely and immediately. Oliver's kick back attitude was a perfect compliment to Mac's independence. Their give and take banter was snarky (Mac) and joyful (Oliver)...making for laughs and a smile. The humor of the story was balanced quite nicely with the drama and intrigue. The "Who Done It" reveal was quite the surprise...kudos to the author for the perfect build up and twists and turns up until the final revel. The nonstop action at the end was edge of your seat gripping.
This ARC book was a complimentary copy provided by the Publisher and Netgally, I am voluntarily providing my honest review.
This was fun, exciting, sexy story that I enjoyed very much! The mystery kept me engaged as I tried to piece together the clues Ayers provided. But honestly the real strength of this novel was the characters (both human and canine). They were all three dimensional and leapt from the page. Mac, the heroine was intelligent, kind and sympathetic. Her back story gave her a believable vulnerability and explained many of her character traits. The real ace in the hole though was Oliver. I LOVED him!! He was funny, sexy, sweet, intelligent and vulnerable (and looked like a 6 ft 4" Norse God!!!) I loved his humour and the way he wasn't over the top Alpha, but tempered it with stereotypical Australian laid back charm. He more than anything made this a pleasure to read, and I hope that future stories in the series will have characters just as engaging.
Highly recommended.

Physical Forces is an entertaining romantic suspense read from the beginning. D.D. Ayres is a a writer who knows what readers want in a novel. This tale showed me the K-9 teams in action. The bond between them and the dogs was believable. I fell in love. I can't imagine anyone not falling for this group of characters both the two and four legged kind.
Inside Physical Forces by D.D. Ayres, I met a woman lacking her licesnce as a private investigator who went all out to find missing greyhounds. Macayla Burkett is a detective for animals. They go missing, she's gets called. She loves helping owners find their pets. Her personality is strong. Macayla is independent, likes to work her own hours, and fend for herself. She's smart and pretty. However, Macayla ends up stumbling into a situation that's a whole lot more serious than her previous adventures. This time, she'll need help...which comes in the form of Oliver Kelly. Talk about heat! The whole story from this point on, was intense. The raw desires flying like electricity in the air between both Macayla and Oliver. Their situation at hand is dangerous and it's only a matter of time until they explode...overall, I highly recommend this engaging romance to readers everywhere. I loved the action, intrigue, and the passion between the charcaters. Don't forget the amazing dogs, too!
Let me start off saying that I have not read any of the other books in this series. You don't need to read the other books to read this one. I really did like this book and the characters. I just wasn't to happy with the ending. I found the ending to short, maybe an epilogue would have been nice or even a few more chapters. Overall the book was good and I would read more in this series. I hope the author does a better job with the ending for future books as I personally didn't feel it lived up to the HEA explicitly.
The story centers around Macayla (Mac) Burkett and Aussie K-9 Search and Rescuer, Oliver Kelly.
Mac is a pet detective, meaning , when pets are lost, she finds them for the owners. This was not her profession a year ago, but life has thrown her some curveballs, and she has changed professions. She meets Oliver during one of her rescues and mistakes him for a male stripper.
The plot is full of suspense, false accusations, dangerous individuals, witnessing a murder, and of course romance. But , it’s also more than that. It’s also a story how a tragedy in our lives can change our outlook on people, how it can create self doubt and can deeply affect us. Also, that disabilities, and how parents react to them, can affect a child all the way through adulthood. And that love and support of friends and a loved one, can help us overcome everything.
I was gifted this copy by Netgalley. The opinions expressed are solely my own.
This was a great addition to Ayres' K-9 Rescue Series. The two main characters, Macayla Burkett and Oliver Kelly, were wonderful, and I enjoyed seeing them get to know one another and develop feelings for each other. Macayla has left her career and is working for a PI as a pet detective. Oliver co-owns BARKS, a search and rescue organization. His business partner is Kye, from the previous installment.
After an unfortunate first meeting, the Macayla and Oliver join forces to investigate and discover who is kidnapping pets.
Great characters, and an interesting and fast-paced storyline make this one a winner! Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for providing a copy of this book in return for an honest review.
After an devastating incident Macayla Burkett is forced to change careers, and leave her old life behind for one that is a little more subdued, instead of helping people, she now helps families find their furry friends that have gone missing. Being a pet detective isn't always glamorous, nor does it pay well, but Macayla enjoys every minute of it... well except maybe when it puts her in the wrong place at the wrong time, and puts her life in danger! While working on her newest case she discovers that the famous dogs she has been searching for have been murdered, and the men who committed the crime now have their sights set on her... With danger lurking at every corner she knows she needs help, but who can she trust... good thing fate decides to intervene and put her on the same path as a fellow sexy K-9 detective who is willing to help keep her safe!
When Oliver Kelly spots a woman lingering near a dumpster he can't help but want to help her, he assumes she is a homeless woman foraging for food, so he offers to buy her a meal... and soon learns that what he assumed couldn't be farther from the truth! His little assumptions offend her and she immediately sends him packing, but before long these two wander onto each others paths again, and they join forces to catch the criminals who are heisting pets all around the city! And the minute they do the sparks start to fly...
I thoroughly enjoyed this one, the moment I started it the suspenseful plot grabbed a hold of me and had me flying through the pages...it was so addictive!! I mean seriously what is not to love about a sexy K-9 detective that comes equipped with a body made for sin, a good heart and an Australian accent that has the ability to curl your toes...Oliver is the total package!! Macayla and him were quite the pairing, while at first their wasn't a love connection(due to their wrong assumptions), it didn't take long for the sparks bouncing around between them to take hold, and for things to get nice and steamy!! I love suspenseful, action packed, romance stories, and I have to say this one checked off all my "must-haves"... and then some!! Highly recommend this one, it is sure to keep you on the edge of your seat the whole way through!!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this title.
This story is hot, exhilarating, full of suspense, sexy and romantic. Who doesn't love sexy heroes with cool dogs? Love this story so come on If you have read the other books in this series, you know you are going to want to read this one too. And yes you are going to love it as much as the other books in this series which have Incredible brave and sexy alphas with there dogs and very strong woman who they can't help but loving. Would recommend
Physical Forces is an outstanding addition to this series! Pet detective Macayla Burkett and BARKS co-owner Oliver Kelly have the best meet cute I’ve read in a while. Oliver hasn’t let his disability slow him down from anything he has wanted to do except maybe getting close to a woman outside of the bedroom. Macayla is starting over. She has a new life in a new town and just wants to earn enough to keep a roof over her head, food in her belly and to forget. But trouble seems to find her and the sexy Aussie and his incredible K9 are determined to help. Watching Mac and Oliver learn to love each other is well worth the read.
I loved this book, of course the dog was my favorite character but the I've story between the two letters was fun to!!!
A mix of animal rescue and suspense, with some romance added in. I enjoyed Oliver's character more than Macayla but my favorite was Jackeroo - a faithful, smart and adorable Australian shepherd! Whether you're an animal lover or not, you will enjoy this!

Romantic Thriller/Suspense
St. Petersburg, Florida – The Present
After a horrible event, Macayla Burkett left her previous job, and now she has difficulty meeting her bills. In her new job, she works as an animal recovery specialist for former police officer Jefferina Franklin, who runs a private detective agency in the Tampa-St. Petersburg area. Only on this case, Mac, as she calls herself, is a detective searching for the whereabouts of three missing grey hounds stolen from the Derby Lane racetrack. It is a police case, so she cannot do anything other than look for clues. Her mission leads her into a dangerous situation.
Oliver Kelly, a transplanted Australian, goes ‘all Aussie’ in language when annoyed. His Australian shepherd companion, Jackeroo, is in reality a rescue dog. They both work for Bolt Action Rescue K-9 Services, or BARKS, as trainers of search and rescue teams for natural and man-made disasters worldwide. Oliver is in St. Petersburg Beach for a conference where he is a scheduled speaker, the very thought of it gives him the willies. He also plans to take advantage of the beach for stress relief from his job. On the return to his hotel after finishing his run on the beach, he passes a woman scrounging around a dumpster, looking for food. His initial reaction is doubtful about a homeless person in this high end area, but he stops to help.
The scruffy looking woman is Mac, trying to rescue a Pomeranian. This encounter leads to a physical confrontation with two hooded figures taking baseball bats to Mac’s car. Interest sparks between Mac and Oliver. More trouble follows Mac, especially after Oliver leaves on a BARKS mission, increasing the suspense throughout the story. All three main characters, Mac, Oliver, and Jackeroo, are well developed. Mac is serious and avoids relationships. Oliver is humorous and avoids relationships. Jackeroo is a well-trained dog who likes to please. When I first started reading, I thought, ‘Pet detective? Really?’ but as author D. D. Ayers works her wonderful plot, I began to think that she planned that initial reaction and then used it to pull the reader ever deeper into the story. It worked; another great story for this series.

Very good story of romance swept up in danger and dogs. Macaulay and Oliver learn to trust their growing feelings for each other, hoping love will overcome past hurts. Wish the ending was more satisfying. Felt the author ended it too abruptly and if not for that would've given book four stars.
Overall I found the book to be well-written. Good solid dialogue. Excellent romance.
I liked the overall story but some things just didn't flow for me. The conclusion to Mac's problem came fast and then was over. The build-up waned and then bam. I really liked Oliver but Mac could get on my nerves.
This is Book 7 in the K-9 Rescue Series but it can be read as a stand-alone book. We meet Macayla working as an animal recovery specialist for Tampa/St. Pete Recon which is a private investigation agency. Macayla finds lost animals and returns them to their owners. She meets Oliver while she’s on a lost dog recovery case. This is a really good book because it’s funny at times but you also have a mystery to solve, too. There are all kinds of interesting things happening here and it keeps your attention at all times. I loved Oliver, who is a co-owners of Bolt Action Rescue K-9 Service, knows as Barks (that’s an awesome nickname for it, isn’t it?). They train and supervise professional K-9 Search and Rescue teams. Oliver also goes on Search and Rescue missions with his dog, Jackeroo. He goes into some of the details during a speech which was really interesting. So now I’m off to read the other books in this series. I received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
