Tess Gerritsin is one of those authors who have never failed to impress me. Whether it's a stand-alone or Rizzoli and Isles. I must confess that I stopped reading her books back around R&Z #7. Only because I loved the show so much that I decided I needed to pick either books or t.v., the show won because I do love me some Angie Harmon. Then I quit watching television altogether, and Tess fell by the wayside. I'm back! This story left me guessing whodunit. I usually pick up on it, but not this time, and that's just another reason to love this series. I love the characters, although Isles is an odd one at times, and I'd love to give Frank and Jr. a swift kick in the old sack. They are sooooooooooooo completely oblivious! All in all, this story left me feeling a bit blue. It's a sad tale of injustice, but that doesn't take away from how well this story was told. It's a book I'd recommend. You can't get a bad read from anything from this author. My thanks to Netgalley and Ballantine/Random House.
I Know a Secret, due for publication in August 2017, is the twelfth book in the Tess Gerritsen series featuring medical examiner Maura Isles and homicide detective Jane Rizzoli. I've read every book in this series and in my opinion the quality has remained consistent. Always a guaranteed can't-put-down read, the books tend to be part mystery/thriller and part quirky portrayal of the friendship that has slowly developed between the two colleagues.
In the most recent addition to the series, several homicide victims are discovered within weeks of each other, the bodies gruesomely staged postmortem. While at first the murders appear unconnected, once Rizzoli and Isles unlock the symbolism behind the creepy murder stagings, they are able to identify how the victims are connected and begin to try to solve the murders.
I Know a Secret is a quick and fun read that takes a lot of twisty turns until the final reveal. There were a few times I thought I had it figured out and then changed my mind. This one really had me stumped until the end, which is of course, all part of the fun -- definitively Tess Gerritsen at her best.
Thank you to Random House-Ballantine and NetGalley for providing me with an advance copy in exchange for an honest review.
Another great Rizzoli and Isles. Very chilling look at the 80's satanic cult witch hunt.
It's a Rizzoli and Isles book by Tess Gerritsen, need I even say anymore? It is amazing, in true Tess form. Once I picked it up, I could barely put it down until I finished it! This series is one I can read over and over, and still love as much each time.
Both Rizzoli and Isles each feature prominently and have their own personal storylines in addition to the main "murder" plot. Jane is trying to help her mother come to terms with a failing marriage and Maura's own birth mother is dying of cancer in prison. They have to balance their personal struggles while they investigate a series unusually brutal murders with distinct death methods. A tenuous link to an old murder/abuse case at the Apple Tree daycare center seems to hold keys, but things are not always what they seem. Could Maura's mother be involved in spite of her recent death? There are so many twists and turns and questions about what you think you know. Brilliantly written, you'll be turning pages until you (sadly) reach the end. I hope Tess Gerritsen doesn't make us wait too long before the next book!
**Many many thanks to NetGalley, Ballantine books, and Tess Gerritsen for an ARC to read and honestly reveiw!!**
I received this book as an ARC from Net Galley.
I Know a Secret is a worthwhile addition to the Rizzoli and Isles series. The story takes several unexpected turns and keeps the reader intrigued up to the very end. I have read previous books by Tess Gerritsen and look forward to more.
I received a free copy from NetGalley. I guess I have watched the show more recently then I have read any of the books because I struggled not see the characters from the show while reading the book. They don't match up perfectly, which actually made some actions seem out of place. But, I enjoyed the story and read through it quickly. Enjoyable if you are a fan. If you haven't read them before, I would start with an earlier work in the series for better character development.
Jane Rizzoli and Maura Isles are back with a new challenging case. Two separate gruesome murders, with two apparently unrelated victims, have too much in common to not be related. What, and who, are the common threads? And what is the actual cause of death? Can Maura Isles figure this one out on her own without involving her former love, Daniel Brophy? On top of that, both Rizzoli and Isles have complicated family issues to deal with.
I thought this was well-written and a great story. I love these characters and the challenging issues they face, both on and off the job. If you're a fan of Tess Gerritsen's previous books, you will love the newest addition to the series.
Another great Rizzoli and Isles novel by Tess Gerritsen!
You just can't go wrong with a Tess Gerritsen book. This one is no exception. Two bizarre homicides occur which at first don't seem to be related. No common bond between them seems to exist. The way they are eventually found to be connected is complex and ingenious. The conclusion is unexpected and ties up all the loose ends in the book.
I look forward to every new book by this author and can't wait to read the next one.
Having avidly watched the series it was at first difficult to see past what I thought I knew about the characters to who they are in the source material. Smart, snappy and well thought out, Gerritsen caught me up into a new (yet consistent with the books) view of the Rizzoli clan, Maura, Korshack and friends.
Jane Rizzoli really shines in this book and her tenacity at striving to find the truth shines in this book. Maura has a role that is focusing on her personal life. All fans of this series will enjoy this book and new readers will become hooked on the series.
It's no secret that Tess Gerritsen writes wonderful novels. This latest Rizzoli and Isles tale is no exception. Just when you think you have figured it all out halfway through the book you are shown to be mistaken.
The story is plausible and frightening. A well constructed story that leaves you wanting more. I do.
I've read and enjoyed all of the books in the Rizzoli & Isles series. This is one of my favorite series and I was excited to read this book. Just like the others in the series, I Know A Secret did not disappoint. It was both gripping and disturbing with twists and turns that keeps you guessing. There was also closure to the characters that we have known and loved throughout the series: Maura and Daniel, Maura and Almathea, Angela and Frank, Angela and Vince, Frost and Alice.
Definitely read this book but I highly recommend reading the previous books first.
I would like to thank NetGalley and Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine for supplying a copy of Tess Gerritsen's "I Know a Secret" in exchange for an honest review.
Another in the Rizzole and Isles murder mysteries. This particular novel catches up the reader on several on going threads
The story itself depends on connecting several current murders with an old event and the victims with each other. Once connections are made pieces begin to fall into place. A major back drop to the story is there is evil in the world and it's not always who you might expect
The novel is not one of the strongest in the series but was a page turner none the less. I appreciate the opportunity to read anadvanced copy of the story and I recommend it to anyone who is a fan of Rizzole and Isles.
Outstanding horror & suspense novel. It initially seems perfectly clear who committed the crimes but then every clue begins to unravel into other theories.
While the main characters are trying to keep up with one crime after another, their own lives continue their train-wreck progress. Rizzoli has her strong opinions on everyone's business while Isles feels her life (and her heritage) creeping up on her. An old family member resurfaces to roil the murder mysteries even more confusing, and Ms. Gerritsen works in more potent commentary on witness testimony and the childcare crimes of the 1980s.
I had great fears that Tess Gerritsen would falter (a bit) in her return to the Rizzoli & Isles series. This book put my fears to rest most tick.
Rizzoli and Isles are called to a gruesome (and aren't they always gruesome!) crime scene in which a young film maker is dead. What's more, other than some oddly placed body parts, cause of death is a poser. Quickly, more bodies pile up but are hard to connect. That it's the same murderer is quite clear, but why they're targeting the victims is hard to put together.
Weaved through the mystery is Rizzoli's family life, with her father's return to the family home making mother Angela miserable and regretting her decision to keep the family together. Frank Sr. is as misogynistic as he's been in the past. Will they be able to maintain their union? Will Jane be able to keep from killing her asshole of a father?
And Maura....poor tortured Maura with the love of her life being a dedicated man of the cloth. After almost a year apart, they are brought back together with this case. Will they be able to keep things professional, or will Maura de-frock the priest once and for all?
Reviewers often say, "I couldn't put this book down!" to highlight how excellent a book is. Unfortunately, I have to work for a living and had to put the book down between the hours of 7AM and 4PM. BUT- after getting that pesky work crap out of the way I tore through this story. I'll never doubt Ms. Gerritsen or her irrefutable talent again!
I received this from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. I have been a huge fan of this series since the beginning. I really enjoyed this one. We have a very unusual killer they are after. Also Maura's biological mother has reached out to her, and seems to know something about these killings. This case was insane and intense. A great thriller in true Rizzoli and Isles fashion. Unputdownable!
I Know a Secret is the latest Rizzoli & Isles story from Tess Gerritsen. As always Ms Gerritsen delivers an interesting mystery and keeps the reader up to date with her main characters who we have come to love. I was given an early copy to review.
Although I've watched the show, this was my first book in the Rizzoli and Isles series. What a riveting mystery! I figured out some key pieces pretty early, but I still was fascinated by how well the author built up to the great reveal. A great summer read for a road trip, at the beach or just relaxing by the pool
First, thank you to NetGalley for an e-book copy of this novel for my enjoyment and review. This is another in Gerritsen's series of Jane Rizzoli and Maura Isles, and a very easy one to get right into and completely enjoy. Many twists and turns, as it starts off fast and furious with Maura seeing her long-estranged and dying mother in the ICU, who has been imprisoned many years for multiple murders. The reader can see that there may be a connection between what her mother knows, and a recently discovered, bizarre murder that Jane and Maura must solve. You will enjoy this one, I promise - thanks Ms. Gerritsen for another enjoyable mystery.

it was amazing
This is the twelfth book in the Rizzoli & Isles Series. This is one of my favorite series. I have read every book in this series and Tess Gerritsen does not disappoint. I loved every book in this series and I was so ecstatic when I received this copy of the book. This book was the bomb! It just rocked. I just loved it. This book is filled with suspense and rich in character development for characters we have come to know and love over the course of the Rizzoli and Isles series, this book is a true page turner with dark and disturbing plots. and one that should not be missed.
The book starts out with a girl found dead in her apartment, her eyes gouged out and placed in her hands. As the cause of death goes unanswered, another body is found, this one with arrows through his chest. I loved the back story of Maura and her evil serial killer birth mother Almathea, definitely keeps things interesting. This centers on a twenty year old case involving children abused at a day care center known as the Apple Tree Nursery. "The Apple Tree" mystery was very intriguing and had me quickly turning the pages. A female character has a secret! The book goes back and forth between this character and Rizzoli and Isles.
I highly recommend this book for those that love a dark thriller and suggest that you read them in order.
I want to thank NetGalley, the publisher and Tess Gerritsen for the copy of this book in exchange for a honest review.
