The Ones Who Got Away
The Ones Who Got Away series book #1
Release Date: January 2, 2018

This was a tough book to read. Not because it wasn't well done, but because the plot was born around a tragedy that destroys so many lives...school shootings.

I have always been a huge fan of Roni Loren's. Her books are full of super sexy kink and solid plots. And while this book was still very much sexy and had a phenomenal plot, it was different. The emotions it pulled out of me were darker and more intense. This series is definitely very character driven, but then again, all her books are.

Liv and Finn have history. They were secret lovers in high school. Not that Liv wanted it that way. This was a romance between a girl from a middle class family, and a boy from a very wealthy family. I love this trope!

The connection between Liv and Finn was palpable. Even after more than a decade apart, there was still that magnetism that pulled them together. I loved the witty banter between them. It kept the dialogue moving quickly, and I was always interested in what they were saying to each other.

They've been brought together because of a documentary about the school shooting they survived so many years before. With that comes old wounds being sliced opened. So many times I could feel a pang in my heart when the characters were reliving an awful moment. Roni handled the entire situation with sensitivity, but a realness that often left me feeling raw. I might even say that this was some of her best writing, in my opinion.

How do you find love and beauty out of a shared tragedy? I was skeptical on how this would make a solid love story, but the author made it work beautifully.

Liv and Finn had so many obstacles to conquer before they found their HEA. I mean, the baggage they each brought to the table was enormous. But I could feel their affection and hope for happiness on every page.

The writing in this book was pure genius. The characters pulled me in and held on until the last page. Even the secondary characters had me engaged and latching onto their journeys. I'm so eager for the next book in this brand new series. This is the kind of book and series that truly makes me believe in the whole HEA thing! If you're looking for a book that will bring you to your knees emotionally, The Ones Who Got Away is it!

The Ones Who Got Away is an emotional and captivating new series by Roni Loren, whom I had never read before. The author pushed boundaries with this unique book that peaked my interest from page one.

This book follows the lives of survivors of a shooting years back. A documentary brings those survivors back to the one place they wanted to put into their past. Liv and Finn have each tried running, but are brought back right to where it all fell apart.

Liv and Finn were part of each other’s lives in high school, but their relationship was secret. Liv was Finn’s biggest secret and there is unfinished business between the two of them. Finn is determined to show Liv how much she meant and still means to him, regardless of what others say.

Their story is one of love, heartbreak, running from the past and coming together once again to make a future. Until time runs out and one of them runs. Again.

Throughout this entire book, I felt every emotion. This story could happen in everyday life and the author did an amazing job of writing these characters and their story of love. I was captivated from start to finish and look forward to more in this series.

The Ones Who Got Away
Roni Loren
5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Excellent! Amazing story! Couldn’t put it down. Best book I’ve read in awhile
Lots of emotions while reading this one. A very intense storyline.

It's been twelve years since tragedy struck the senior class of Long Acre High School. Only a few students survived that fateful night―a group the media dubbed The Ones Who Got Away.

Liv Arias thought she'd never return to Long Acre―until a documentary brings her and the other survivors back home. Suddenly her old flame, Finn Dorsey, is closer than ever, and their attraction is still white-hot. When a searing kiss reignites their passion, Liv realizes this rough-around-the-edges cop might be exactly what she needs...

Liv's words cut off as Finn got closer. The man approaching was nothing like the boy she'd known. The bulky football muscles had streamlined into a harder, leaner package and the look in his deep green eyes held no trace of boyish innocence.

I want more from this author. I can’t wait for the next book in this series to come out. In the meantime I’m gonna start some of her other books she has written.

Thanks NetGalley for the arc in exchange for my honest review.

With her latest release Ms. Loren has brought the heartbreak, the feelings of guilt and of loss, to life as readers are introduced to an unlikely group of friends whose bond was formed through tragedy. In a tale that started out under a cloud of sadness on the anniversary of a school shooting, readers find unexpected joy and an affirmation of life through the power of one couple’s love. From the first page to the last readers get put through the wringer, alongside a couple still trying to recover years later, in an unforgettable tale that’s only just begun.

Olivia Arias was the daughter of a gardener, too poor to be the girlfriend of the golden boy of the high school. At least that’s what everyone thought. The truth was very different though as they found a close connection, a star-crossed love that they kept secret from a judgmental world. Their clandestine romance came to a head on that night of tragedy and changed both of them irrevocably. Years of feeling lost, of trying to live up to other’s expectations, has brought all of them back home though and her back into Finn Dorsey’s arms. The years since that tragedy were hard on Liv as she tried to bury the pain through acts that only made her hurt more before settling down in a career that’s safe but far from satisfying. She made a life for herself but was far from living as she buried everything that made her Olivia Arias. Seeing Finn brings her back to life, has her embracing long ago dreams, and has her finally dealing with her past to make a future for herself...one she desperately wants Finn to be a part of. Liv’s an immensely appealing heroine, strong-willed and supportive of her friends. She owns up to her rocky past but doesn’t want to make any more missteps in fear of disappointing her father. Those fears, as well as feeling an obligation to those who died, has her desperate to live a life of success but it’s a life that’s slowly draining her. Seeing her back home showed us a more carefree side, showed us someone embracing life to the fullest without fear. With Finn she once again became that edgy and artsy Liv and it had me cheering as she finally grabbed on to living with both hands, putting everything on the line for love.

Finn Dorsey came from a family of wealth and big expectations. Though he was attracted to the gardener’s daughter, could be himself around her, his father had his own plans for his life which had him keeping Liv his dirty little secret. Even with the events of that tragic night she was still his secret, a secret that is finally revealed years later as the survivors of that night come home. The years have changed Finn, hardened him through his undercover work with the FBI. Anger is now his constant companion and it’s put his career in jeopardy. Returning home is supposed to help him heal, help him deal with his past and humanize him after all the darkness of his last assignment. What starts out as a plan to heal both of their wounded souls soon takes a sensual turn as he and Liv grow closer together and discover that it’s only in each other’s arms that they’re truly living. Finn’s guilt over his treatment of Liv all those years ago is palpable and is just one of the wrongs he’s desperate to right. He feels responsible for putting her in the gunman’s sights and is now determined to keep her safe...even from his blackened heart. I ached for Finn, admired him for his honorable nature and for pushing Liv out of her complacency, and was rooting for him to push his own past aside to embrace a future with Liv. It’s the other wrong that he’s desperate to right, that of the identity of the group who sold the guns to those teen murderers long ago, that’s a roadblock to his HEA though and it’s a mystery that permeates the series as one crumb here leads us into the next installment.

Ms. Loren has beautifully balanced tragedy with romance in this series starter. The heartbreak and feelings of loss are achingly depicted here, the emotional baggage each character carries drew me to each of them and has me longing to see them healed. The emotional healing of Liv and Finn is part of their steamy romance as are their numerous scorching encounters that were playful while making me blush. So many romances involve big misunderstandings but this couple talked through everything in a mature way that made their relationship even more believable and the story’s conclusion even more rewarding. Alongside this immensely likable main couple were a cast of equally appealing secondary characters who are carrying their own emotional baggage. An unexpected friendship resulted from that tragedy as Liv found a connection with other survivors who were once complete opposites and who are now tight-knit friends. There’s the protective Taryn, whose sister was killed that night, the outspoken Kincaid, and good girl Rebecca who was Finn’s date on that tragic night. I loved the interactions between these women, their blatant support for each other amidst their playful banter. Though they were once seen as opposites it’s clear that their connection is now strong. The brief glimpses of these characters, the tragic backgrounds depicted, and the foreboding and mysterious comments scattered throughout this story has me intrigued for more. With this series starter Ms. Loren shows once again why she’s a go-to author for me as her talent with words and emotions leaps off the pages while giving readers the HEAs they’re longing for!

This story was not was I was expecting. Yes, I read the blurb, but for some reason I envisioned something different. But I'm very happy that I read this book. It turned out to be pretty inspirational.

After living through one of the worst high school shootings in history, Olivia, Finn and others are still finding it hard to deal with the past AND the future. Life isn't made easier when a journalist decides to make an anniversary documentary of the event and survivors. Old wounds re-open, old personal commitments rear their heads and old flames reignite. Sounds like a recipe for a good time, right?

Olivia (Liv) and Finn are reunited while filming interviews for the documentary. How they survived and what each other meant to one another bring back some serious feelings that neither one thought still existed. Time to start facing life head on and excepting that there are choices to be made. For better or worse.

I really liked the inter turmoil that each of these characters had to deal with. When ever there is a tragic event, we usually only focus on the ones who died. But the survivors suffer too. And everyone deals with that trauma differently. Overcoming PTSD is not easy. But these characters found a way that worked for them, each other.

Dear Author -
Thank you for focusing on the survivors' stories. Its rare that we get to experience what they might have gone through. This was beautifully done.
p.s - I hope Rebecca comes to terms with why she felt targeted.

Roni Loren kicks off another new series that is bound to be epic, if the rest if anything like this first book. I have always loved her stories. They pull me in, the type of book you will lose sleep for so you don't have to put it down.

Liv and Finn were secret high school sweet hearts, but now, along with a few others, they are only known as the ones who got away. And it feels like all of their lives changed forever that day, and the course of their futures did too. It's like the lives they were supposed to lead were taken from them, even though they survived.

I like watching them find themselves again in this story. There is a lot of pain to work through, a lot of hurt, but a lot of healing. This was an emotional read for me and I shed more than a few tears. It was just so. So. GOOD. I will definitely be reading this more than once and look forward to the next book.

Liv Arias and Finn Dorsey haven’t seen each other in twelve years. Twelve years since the tragedy struck their high school senior class. They’re part of an elite group—the survivors—The Ones Who Got Away. But in all seriousness, the survivors are barely living.

Liv drowns herself in work. So does Finn. He’s an undercover cop; she’s a graphic artist. Both live in their own worlds, though Liv’s is a whole lot safer than Finn’s. Brought back together by a documentary filmmaker, can Liv and Finn finally give into the passion that was cut short that fateful evening? Can they finally find their happiness?

I’m struggling a bit to express how much I loved The Ones Who Got Away. That a back story so incredibly tragic could create such a magical romance between Liv and Finn.

I loved how Liv and Finn had a second chance at love. That they could attempt to move past the tragedy, to finally live life to the fullest. Their interactions were so real, so honest. At times I found myself holding my breath waiting for the two of them to get their acts together and make something happen—allow love to guide them.

And I would be remiss to leave out Kincaid, Rebecca and Taryn! I’d love to have girlfriends like them—one’s who understood me, knew me and pushed me . . . with and without the assistance of alcohol. I’m anxiously awaiting the release of The One You Can’t Forget this summer. That’s Rebecca’s story and I’m dying to know more about her secret.

Okay, The Ones Who Got Away is a little different Roni's kinktastic reads. In some ways its a bit subdue, but still a pretty good read. Basically, we have these group of kids that forged a bond after a terrible mass shooting 12 years and came back to do a documentary which happens to be a title of the book. The story introduces these people, but focuses on Olivia (Liv) Arias and Finn Dorsey. We also meet Rebecca Lindt, Kincaid Breslin, and Taryn Landry. These girls form and unlikely friendship after the shooting, and they are there for Liv when she needed them most in the story.

The Ones Who Got Away was a pretty heavy story. I mean with the past, and the past looms over Liv and Finn's head through the most of the book that it makes you wonder if they are ever going to move pass the past. In some ways the past is cock blocking their relationship. However, Liv is willing to take a chance for a taste, and so we see Liv and Finn working on something. Both of them suffer from PTSD that does causes issue with moving forward.

Anyway, the story is a pretty deep for a read, but was a pretty good read. At times it's a little slow, but I think had Liv and Finn rushed to bed it would have ruined the story. They are both pretty damage, and they helped one another to move pass the tragedy. I'm curious on how Roni moves the characters forward, and how the tragedy impacted their lives. Especially Rebecca's, because she mentions in this story that Jeremy was gunning for her, but why. Those questions will be hopefully answered in the next book. 🤞

If you are a lover of second chance romances, this is the one for you!
Roni Loren is a new-to-me author and trust me when I say, I will definitely be checking more of this author's work out! The Ones Who Got Away is a second chance romance but not only that it's also a novel about four people who are brought together after a traumatic situation impacts all of their lives. Four girls come together on the twelfth anniversary of that tragic night when a producer wants to do a documentary on that horrible night. While the girls are together they decide to open a time capsule and read a letter each had written.

This story is based on one of those four girls (Liv Arias).

Having to take her mothers maiden name to gain some anonymity Liv now lives a safe life with no chances of surprises. That is until she goes back home and runs into the boy who stole her heart.

Finn Dorsey was the typical rich jock. Only this jock had a secret girlfriend. Liv was the girl who lived on the other side of town with a landscaper as a father. She wasn't the type of girl Finn's father would approve of. Finn has lived with guilt for the past twelve years, guilt that fuels his rage and has him taking dangerous missions as a FBI agent.

When Finn and Liv meet up again, there is an intensity unlike any others! Their relationship is a slow build that is fueled with loads of sexual tension. I loved Finn and Olivia in their own way, but I really enjoyed them together. The two are hilarious with their sexual innuendos and their back and forth banter.

One thing I loved about this novel is the fact that it was told in dual point of views. You get the inside story of what is actually going on in both Liv and Finn's heads!

This novel isn't all about hilarity. There is a strong seriousness to the subject and message portrayed in this novel. As a reviewer I feel it is my job to warn readers of possible trigger warnings. If you don't want to be spoiled stop reading right now.

This novel is based on the aftereffects caused by a school shooting. There are slight flashbacks and conversations surrounding around this subject matter. If this is a trigger for you, I highly recommend you go into this novel with your eyes and mind open. I'm not going to tell you not to read this novel. It's a great story full of second chances and moving on from a really tough situation, a story that I feel touches on the subject flawlessly and with tender care.

The Ones Who Got Away is a novel that I highly recommend!

The Ones Who Got Away, by Roni Loren is a contemporary second chance romance that's tragically heart-breaking while also still sweetly romantic.

Liv Arias and Finn Dorsey are two of the ones who got away and survived after a horrific shooting during their high school prom. This tragedy splintered their secret dating relationship and caused them to abandon their friendship. Twelve years later, Liv, Finn, and their classmates are in their hometown to assist with a special project.

Both Finn and Liv are still attracted to each other, yet dealing with past issues and more current concerns in the lives. However, they quickly develop a new relationship, while dealing with these issues. I'm hoping for more books in this series that focus at least on the three friends, since I'm intrigued to read even more.

The Ones Who Got Away is geared towards those who are interested in second chance romances, despite the tragically heart-breaking underlying issues, yet still hopeful storyline.

I cannot believe I almost bypassed this book. What was I thinking? This book definitely should not be missed. It is about facing your fears, chasing your dreams and falling in love along the way. The book is heartbreaking and uplifting as well as sorrowful and delightful.

The subject of which it speaks is serious and overwhelming. What would you do if you survived such an attack? How would you cope with so much loss? I believe this book does an excellent portrayal in answering those questions

Although I have never been through such a tragedy, this book and the characters feelings feel "real" to me. As if the author may have gone through such an awful event herself. It is wonderfully written and paced.

I adored Livvy. She had many fears but slowly and surely with Finn's help, faced them all. You cannot get a stronger heroine. She gave it all up and kept on going!

Finn was Olivia's perfect match. Although not physically scared of anything, our hero is afraid that he has forgotten how to acclimate back into society and be the charming, loveable boy he once was. With Livvy playing, joking, teasing and loving him, Finn's concern is put to rest.

The supporting cast and characters, in my opinion, also played a vital role. I have a feeling but am not quite sure yet that there will be a book for each of the friends and I CANNOT wait to find out what happens with each and everyone of them. Well, what are you waiting for, go get yourself a copy!

Thank you to NetGalley and SourceBooks Casablanca for the opportunity to review this one of a kind book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I was not in any way prepared for the emotional roller-coaster that is "The Ones Who Got Away". I tend to not read blurbs and just dive right in when I like a particular author. I'm kind of glad I didn't read a blurb on this one. I was able to get hit with the full effect of the very difficult subject matter which has unfortunately been so prevalent in our world today. What happens when you survive such a huge tragedy where so many did not? How do you move on with your life? Do you make it matter? Or do you spiral down into nothingness? Liv and Finn survived that fateful evening but unfortunately were not able to keep the connection they once had. Years later, circumstances but them in each other's paths. But are they able to forge forward? Or is there too much baggage in the past to allow the peace of a future together. Despite the highly emotional moments, there were moments of levity that made me laugh, but there were moments that just grabbed me by the throat and made me cry at what was lost. For some reason this quote resonated with me. "I didn't want a house, I wanted to be home." A very well written book about an extremely emotional and difficult subject. I received a copy of this book through NetGalley for an honest review.

Liv Arias and Finn Dorsey are amongst the survivors from a high school shooting during their prom night about 12 years ago in Long Acre. Liv and Finn were hooking up in secret because Finn was a star football player coming from wealth and Liv was his dad's landscaper's daughter. At the time of the shooting, they were in a closet together when shots rang out, where Finn bolted out of there to check on his date, leaving Liv behind and vulnerable to one of the gunmen. Talk about a complicated situation under the most dire of circumstances and how does one recover from it afterwards?

Over a decade later, the students who survived are all still living with the repercussions of that traumatic event in some form or another. Liv, Finn and several others are back in Long Acre for a documentary segment of the shooting. Although the chemistry between Liv and Finn is still as magnetic as it was before, there's so much hurt and pain and a past where they were completely different people than they are now between them.

I liked how the story sends a strong message about continuing to live one's life to the fullest and to not let the past taint one's future. As for Liv and Finn, the tragedy might have torn them apart, but it also brought them back together, yet they both had to make an effort to have a true relationship. Marred by what happened, they both have their own skeletons in the closet to confront. I also loved the friendship bonds formed between Liv and the other girls, people she didn't hang out with in high school, but yet they were the only ones who understood what she experienced because they were there, too. There's a lot of great, thought provoking points and I enjoyed meeting these flawed characters who all found the strength to take charge of their lives again and to band together.

3.5 stars - I love Roni Loren’s books so I jumped at the chance to read The Ones Who Got Away early, despite the sensitive topic it revolves around. A school shooting. It’s been 12 years since it happened and those who survived are being brought together because of a documentary detailing what occurred that day.

Liv isn’t the same girl she was in high school. She’s found success as a web designer for a company she loves. She doesn’t have time for anything, much less a relationship. When she agrees to be part of this documentary, she isn’t sure what to expect, certainly not the appearance of her secret high school boyfriend.

Finn has carried the guilt of that night all these years. The way things transpired the night of the shooting and the way he treated Liv is something he fears he’ll never get over, and this documentary is just bringing everything he’s buried over the years to the surface. When he encounters Liv their first night in town, he finds that the attraction between them hasn’t dimmed at all.

This story for me wasn’t so much about the actual shooting as it was the effects it had on those that were involved and how they moved on in their lives after such tragedy, so while it was a big part of the story, I found it to be more of an explanation as to why these people were on the paths they were now.

For me though, I’m not sure I connected with these characters as much as I normally have with Loren’s other books. I’m not sure why to be perfectly honest, they are completely likable and sympathetic, I just found that maybe some of the reasons keeping them apart in the story weren’t as complex as they were being made out to be.

That said, I still found myself engaged with the story and wondering how they were going to make things work. Definitely not my favorite read, but enjoyable none the less.

If you’re looking for a new contemporary read, definitely give this one a try. It is sweet, sexy and definitely hits all the right notes in showing the toll an event like this can have on people’s lives.

Thank you to the publisher for an early copy in exchange for my honest thoughts.

Liv and Finn were together in high school...sort of. He kept her a secret and he has always blamed himself, just a little, for the fact that he thinks that may have impacted events on a tragic night in high school.

The ones who got away are the ones who lived through a school shooting. And, I admit, I was intrigued at the idea of having this as one of the central themes of the book. And, at the same time, a little unsure if it could work.

It did, as it gave the characters a relationship and it gave them something to have in their past, a draw to the town and a reason to pursue the emotions that were still below the surface. I found it interesting.

But, at the same time, I thought too much of the story was about the past, too much of the draw was because of the past. For a romance, I want to feel that...at least by the end, there has been some movement forward for the characters, that they are no longer still trapped by the past actions. This is especially true when it is a second chance romance.

In this case, while I enjoyed it, this book felt more like a prologue to the next one, as it really dealt with all of the things that they needed to move past from the night.

I am looking forward to the next in the series, as often with the first book in the series, a lot of the relationship is lost in the setting up of the next part of the story...and I think this is what happened here.

I do recommend it, as I did mostly enjoy it...but I am looking forward to the next one a lot more.

A fun and easy read. When an old classmate comes into the scene, you never know what history they have together, so it's intriguing.

I thought this would be a full on series following the lives of Olivia and Finn, but it turns out to be a standalone series. In the next installment will be someone else's story and I have my bets on a certain character already.

The story is actually kind of sad in a way. I can't relate to 'The Ones Who Got Away' but I can feel a portion of their pain and confusion. They knew the reason why they weren't shot because the kills weren't random at all. They don't know whether they should be thankful or not for being alive. I can guess that this story is inspired by school massacres in the past and we wonder how the survivors cope with life, well this series just might give light to that.

"You're leading the devil to her doorstep again."

From the very moment Finn mentioned he's working undercover for the FBI, I was already looking forward to some action happening. Like one of his enemies would get to him and they'll be in harms way. I badly wanted to see him in hero mode and it just didn't happen which is why I gave it four stars out of five.

"I didn't want a house. I wanted to be a home."

This line right here broke me. You don't need to know the full details, but reading this one line alone would make you feel how the character said it would feel.

It was everything she wanted and nothing she could have.

I really would love to read the next book in this series. It's not just about accepting the reality of being chosen to live, carrying the burden of living your life to the fullest on behalf of those who never got to live the rest of their lives. It's also about figuring things out, in life, in work, in the dating department, and there's also the promises our younger selves made. I say the idea to this book is wonderful and it's something different from what I usually read and I love it.

After a tragedy, not only the ones who die are victims. What happens to the survivors?
In this book, Liv, Finn and some others decide to participate in a documentary about the tragedy that struck their lives several years ago.
It is a story about how the survivors keep going. How they overcome the fear and the panic they feel just because they are alive. They did survive.
It is a beautiful story. I really liked it. And I loved the end.
The next book will be about Rebecca, another survivor from the attack. I'm really looking forward to reading her story.

I've had this book to read for a couple of months. I wanted to wait until I had time and was in the right frame of mind to read it. I'm so glad I forced myself to wait. I have spent a lovely Christmas Eve morning/afternoon immersing myself in this world Ms. Loren has created.

The setting the Texas Hill Country, a small town with a tragic history. The characters the survivors of that tragedy. This story hooked me and didn't let go. Finn and Liv had so much history and chemistry it just sparked off the page. Their interactions were genuine.

If you have misgivings about the backstory being a school shooting, push past it. There is so much meaning in this story! The gist is. don't' let the past hold you back, make it push you to thrive.

I want to share this quote because this is what Ms. Loren has done with this book.
"She'd done what every artist sets out to do every time they lift a camera or put a brush to canvas or pen to page. Her work was making people feel something."

My heart is full and this story brought so many emotions about in me. Happy tears.

Ms. Loren, you are an artist. Please write fast because I need Bec, Kincaid and Taryn's stories fast!

Thank you to the publisher and netgalley and to the author for a chance to read this book early for an honest review.

In a sweepingly romantic tale of two people joined by trauma and loss, The Ones Who Got Away told a beautiful love story filled with deep emotions, uncontrollable sexual tensions, and the turbulent journey to finding inner peace. With the limited blurb, I went into this story not knowing what to expect and came out of it absolutely floored by how deeply poignant and influential these characters were as individuals and as products of their unique situation, along with how beautifully romantic their love story ending up being.

One of the most crucial aspects this story nails is the reverberations of trauma, and how drastically it can change the course of your life. A person who has survived trauma cannot go back to who they once were, no matter how hard they may try, and for both Liv and Finn, they are this exact representation. But because they knew each other prior, there’s this rare idolization of emotion that connects them, both their past and present selves, and makes their attraction and eventual romance even more effective. With the story centering on only the present time, you’ll not only fall for that part of them they’ll always be rather than who they once were, but you’ll still manage to see the raw beauty of their young innocence. All of that groundwork produced an insane amount of emotional and sexual tension, making this a powerful read.

Both surprising and addictive, this story has staying power and will stick with you long after it ends. Loren’s writing is stark and pensive, capturing every naunced thought and emotion in every scene. Its backbones, in centering around the survivors of a school shooting, are strong and will absolutely hold up the entire series, one that I cannot wait to get more of. The Ones Who Got Away was a compelling and provocative read, and an absolute must-read.

This book like every other by Roni Loren is a must read.

It’s intense, very sexy and emotional. Rebecca, Taryn, Kincaid, Olivia and Finn are the ones that got away, they survived a school shooting. This book feels so real. Each of these characters have moved on, they were bonded by what happened but things changed after they headed of to college.

This book carries the message of not letting the ones who did what they did win. Be happy, live life and make each moment count. They all are still dealing with what happened and what they witnessed, what they came face to face with.

Olivia and Finn have unbelievable chemistry. They both have a past they share. They know each other well but haven’t seen each other since high school. They seem to pick up where they left off. They have things to talk through and help each other through.

I loved this book. I can’t wait for Rebecca’s book, she has a secret and I can’t wait to find out what it is. I highly recommend this book. A great start to this series.
