HILARIOUS!
Stuart Heritage and his brother Pete have a relationship like no other siblings and yet very like other siblings. In personality and in person (seeminglt) they are very different people. However, whilst Stuart tries to persuade the reader that his brother is a dick (see title) I believe that as the stories spill out he grows a lot closer to his brother. It's hilarious, laugh out loud funny, heart warming and enjoyable.

Do not read this book in public. I've only ever read one other book that made me laugh out loud until my face froze (Tina Fey's Bossypants). Don't Be a Dick Pete made me do the same, only in public. This memoir about the relationships among the Heritage family (not just the brothers, but mainly so) is endearing, cringeworthy, and hilarious. Thank you for the ARC and for the hysterical laughter.

It's pretty shameful to admit that I first became aware of Stuart Heritage's work when he was liveblogging the X Factor for The Guardian. His obsession with plinths is sadly absent from this recounting of his lifetime of sibling rivalry, probably because it all pre-dates the X Factor.
"Don't Be A Dick Pete" is Heritage's trip down memory lane about his fractious relationship with his older brother. At times hilarious (the section where he soils himself made me cry laughing on a plane, much to my embarrassment, as it wasn't like I could explain what was so funny), at other times genuinely emotional, this is definitely worth adding to your reading list if you grew up in the UK in the vestiges of the last century.

Having read Stuart Heritage avidly in The Guardian, and almost considering Herbie a member of my own family, the dynamics of family life as dashed through in 'Don't Be a Dick Pete' are real, contemporary (for me, born the year before the author) and unmistakably both embarassing as heck, and funny funny funny.

I've been a fan of Stuart's writing in the Guardian for yonks and knew that this would be as funny as his columns. But I was pleasantly surprised at how touching and heartfelt this was as well - it's great on sibling rivalry and family dynamics. Can't wait for the next book. Go, Stu!
