Not my favorite in the series (book three really shines out!) but an absolutely enjoyable read and one I highly recommend to Lynette Eason fans or suspense/crime gurus.

I loved the characters and the storyline development of this book. It was absolutely one of my favorites so far and I can't wait to delve in to the next one that this author writes. The storyline was simple, enjoyable, and entertaining. Love the series so far!!

Lynette Eason is definitely an author I can read! That first chapter was outstanding and it pulled me into reading the story.

Good dialogue, frequent action, and characters you can like and root for. I especially enjoyed a main female protagonist who can take care of herself. That scene of her chasing her would-be mugger was great!

I will be on the lookout for more of her books.

Irish-born bodyguard Haley Callaghan is satisfied with her life in the States - she had survived the hard youngster days in Ireland and here she has an interesting job, the good friends at Elite Guardians agency and the personal mission to help the teenagers. Having been shot at is no pleasure, but it has its perks in meeting good looking Detective Steven Rothwell. But to be informed that she is in fact someone else - a lost daughter from the wealthy Irish family? And that everybody thought that she was dead because all of her imminent family was murdered? That there is a grandfather eager to meet her? That would knock everybody out of their lights. But Haley is a fighter. And the old murder must not stay buried - even if she needs to fight more present danger aimed at her life.

Fast-paced mystery with a lot of heart. I like how Haley is living for the greater things - like helping the unfortunate teens. And I also like the topic of forgiveness. And the heroes coming with a lot of baggage - because they can show their maturity, their real pain, their evolving and growth.
While I could do with less obvious threat for Haley's life (being a new competitor in the big heritage game is quite obvious reason to check out the other ones interested in the wealth), I very much like the humanity and the food for thought presented here.Ms Eason truly is one of the finer ones in the Christian mystery writing field.

Let's just put it this way, when I see Lynette Eason's name on the cover of a book I start to salivate. I LOVE her work so much that I have to read her books, sort of like an addiction. It doesn't even matter what the book is about because each book will pull me in and keep me involved until the very last page. "Chasing Secrets" is no exception. It was an EXCELLENT read and I would highly recommend it to anyone who loves a fast-paced suspenseful romantic novel..

A quick read with a lot of action. The lead characters are perfect. Haley, the bodyguard, is strong and self-confident and Steven is the perfect new guy on the job. A great mystery with lots of twists and turns. Usually I figure these things out before the end of the book but this one surprised me! Strong backstories for the characters so it was easy to read this book even though I hadn't read the rest of the series. I plan to go back to read the previous books. I voluntarily read an ARC of this book.

Yet another book I've neglected to review here for much too long. I was in the middle of moving when I read it and it wasn't easy to get to writing the review up, but this story was able to hold my attention and stick in my memory despite chaos and way too much going on. Elite Guardians has been a favorite series and I wasn't happy to see it end, especially since each book seemed to be better than the one before it.

Haley was a great character and I'd been looking forward to her book since the beginning. I loved the touch of Ireland in the story as they race to keep her safe from the threat that killed her parents when she was a kid.

Thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for a free copy. A positive review was not required.

Audio book is really the way to go with this one! The reader had me so engrossed in the story that I walked an extra mile last night listening to her.

I've never been disappointed in a Lynette Eason book, and Chasing Secrets was fantastic. Book four in the Elite Guardians series tells Haley's story.

When an old photo leads a police detective in Ireland to look into a 25 year old cold case where three members of a family were killed and one little girl disappeared, his investigation leads him to believe that the little girl is still alive. Is it possible that Aileen Burke, and Haley Callaghan are one and the same?

As an Elite Guardian, Haley is used to danger, but when bullets start to fly, and the body count mounts, can she and her friends protect those she's come to care about most?

Detective Steven Rothwell has returned home to be with his parents as his dad struggles through cancer treatments. As a new detective in town, his first call involve Haley, and he's intrigued. Can he keep her alive long enough to explore the attraction pinging through his system?

Looking at themes of forgiveness, and loyalty, Chasing Secrets, was un-put-down-able. It brings back all of us characters from the previous three books, and pits them against an evil that will keep you guessing until the big reveal. I will only say, I kind of pride myself on usually figuring out who the bad guys are. This one, I was stunned, had no inkling, etc.

I definitely recommend. Of course, it's a Lynette Eason book. What's not to love??

Lynette Eason's Elite Guardians series has been an amazing one to read! Each book, while focusing on one of the bodyguards and telling her story, has been unique with very different storylines while still interconnecting the characters and their common roles, their agency. "Chasing Secrets" tells Haley's story, a story that involves a past she knows little of with memories she has tried to forget. When a cold case from 25 years ago is opened in Ireland involving a royal family, things get heated in South Carolina where Haley is living her life. However, her family believed she was killed 25 years ago, but a photograph says otherwise. When Haley's past and present become intertwined she finds herself fighting to protect her client as well as herself.

This is such a great book, such a fast-paced read from start to finish with twists and storylines and characters all being woven together. Lynette has done an incredible job with this entire series, I highly recommend all four books in this series. Be prepared to stay up reading until you reach the end!

Excellent end to the series. I want more but also look forward to Eason's next series. Haley and Steven's story was intense. This was a fast read.

I was so excited to read Haley's story - especially her interesting background. This series as a whole has been fun to read, but I think this one is my favorite by far. It had just the right mix of emotion, suspense, romance, and day to day living. I did not want to put it down, at all. If I had been on vacation, I would have sat right there and read it all in one sitting. Yes it was that good, and yes I needed to know what was happening to Haley and who was chasing her.

For those of you who liked the earlier books, don't fret - you see those characters here which I loved. But my favorite part was really Haley's background and how it all came together. It was different then I had read before, and I felt the author was very creative in pulling it off. And here's the thing, looking back I kind of saw the end coming, except for this one small twist (that made me chuckle by the way). But my focus was so much on the storyline and what was happening, that I didn't really think too much ahead with this book, and to be honest that doesn't happen to me very much. I think perhaps it was because I was so invested in the characters during each and every chapter that I was more focused on the "now" instead of the "whodunit". Kudos to you, Lynette Eason for grabbing my attention in that way.

This story is fast paced, full of action, and suspenseful, but don't forget the romance. It is there kind of in the background, just waiting for the opportune moment to make its entrance. But the subtlety of it was nice. I think if the author had wrote Haley and Steven in a more outgoing romantic kind of way, it would have ruined the storyline completely. The main focus of the story needed to be on the chase and the suspense, not love. But I will say this - Steven.....he is alright. He knew just how to handle Haley, protect her, and keep her focused. It amazed me at how quickly he picked up on her quirks, but it made him that much more swoon worthy!

All in all, this was a fabulous book. If you are into suspense and solving mysteries, this is the book for you! I received a complimentary copy of this book. I was not required to write a favorable review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

CHASING SECRETS Can Be A Deadly Past Time!
Make sure you have the required amount of time to read this book . . . because once you start, you won’t be putting it down until you’ve finished.

Lynette Eason, in Book 4 of The Elite Guardians series, captures the reader's interest from page one, and just when you think you’re going to get a breather from the romance, suspense, and crackling tension, she takes it to a whole other level.

Haley Callaghan has carved a career out of keeping people safe, and she is very good at her job. So it’s rather disconcerting to find herself on the receiving end of her services. But when danger crosses the water from County Mayo, Ireland, she quickly realizes that she’s in over her head.

For Detective Steven Rothwell, returning home to handle some family business has reopened old wounds, and added a few new ones. While investigating several murders which seem to be linked, his path crosses Haley’s. Curiosity leads to definite interest, especially when Steven discovers that Haley is at the center of his investigation. A cursory background check on the elite guardian reveals more questions than answers, and Steven does what any Detective worth his badge would do . . . he investigates.

Little does he know that they are both unwitting pawns in a game that is far larger, and with far more at stake, than either of them realize. And while Detective Rothwell is busy putting out fires on the street, he is helpless to do anything about the one burning in his heart.

Haley Callaghan's early life in Ireland wasn't easy but she has no idea just what she lost years ago and the truth is about to come out. And someone is determined to keep her from learning the truth that has been hidden for over 25 years.

Living in South Carolina, Haley has no idea that her past is about to find her and place her and those around her in the crosshairs of danger. And her job with Elite Guardians places her in enough danger as it is and Haley has just taken on a case that has made her an enemy that has a way of escaping justice. With more than one target on her back, Haley has caught the attention of Detective Steven Rothwell who is determined to help her stay safe.

Now Haley just has to survive long enough to discover who wants her dead and rescue those who've been put in danger because she cares. With Steven determined to not lose another person under his protection and the rest of the Elite Guardians backing her up, Haley has a fighting chance to see tomorrow. And Haley has a whole reason to see tomorrow - one she never expected to have.

This is the concluding book in the Elite Guardians series and fans of the series should not be disappointed though it would have been interesting to learn the back story on some of the later additions to the group. Haley's story is interesting and the various potential suspects and the overlapping of personal and professional just adds another layer to the suspense.

For readers who haven't previously read any or all of the books in this series don't worry, you won't get lost, as each book focuses on a different character or characters. Each story builds on the previous one much like one's own life - time passes and new acquaintances enter while others leave. The old and new in your life don't have to meet to enjoy (or not) spending time with you. So take the time to get to know Haley as she uncovers secrets from her past.

I always enjoy Lynette Eason' book in this book was no exception. It was great meeting new people and catching up with old friends

This was another exciting installment in the Eason's series - I was immediately drawn in by Haley's story and found myself not wanting to put the book down. I was sad when it was over! I hope she keeps writing more and more books in this series. I thoroughly enjoyed Haley's story and the immediate and continued connection between Steven and Haley. Bravo!

It’s so sad when a really good series ends, isn’t it? You get to know the characters, you look forward to catching up with them in each new story, you become invested in their lives, and then suddenly you have to say goodbye. Lynette Eason’s Elite Guardians series is one of those.

Chasing Secrets is the fourth and final installment in this series about a team of female bodyguards in South Carolina. Ireland-born bodyguard Haley Callaghan’s mysterious past has been alluded to since the series began, and now we finally get the full picture when her past comes back to haunt her.

How does a photograph of an Irish school bus filled with kindergarteners from 20+ years ago put Haley in danger in South Carolina today? She doesn’t know, but she has no choice except to find out.

I loved finally discovering Haley’s history! She’s been a favorite of mine throughout the Elite Guardians books, simply because she’s such a mystery. You can feel the depth of her character, her experience and expertise, her strength. Haley is kind of like Gibbs on NCIS – a multifaceted character with pain and perspective in her past, plenty of secrets but loyal as can be. A character who draws you in and makes you care about her despite (or maybe because of) what you don’t know. Great characterization!

Haley’s story is full of mystery and history, romance and discovery. If you like your inspy fiction with a heaping dose of romance and suspense, not to mention family skeletons and mayhem, Chasing Secrets is for you!

Chasing Secrets, book 4 of the Elite Guardians series, draws you into the suspense, captures your imagination and you makes you dread the end. The whole series is excellent and highly recommended.

Aren't all the covers in this series beautiful? Very clean and streamlined. I love how the title is in a bold color, but it still meshes well with the person on the cover. I also love how the person on the cover could actually fit the main character in the book. It's those little details that drive me bonkers when they aren't right. But this cover nails it on the head. Kudo's to the designing team there.

While this is the last book in the series, I really think you could read it by it's self and not get confused. I haven't read all of the series, and while I think that makes the book more enjoyable, I didn't feel lost or overwhelmed with backstory. In fact, out of the ones in the series that I have read, this was probably my favorite. The characters were just right, the action and timing were spot on, and there was just the right amount of romance.

I read it so long ago that I can't remember anything that I didn't like about it. I'm sure there were some things, all novels have them, but I think it says a lot that it wasn't glaringly obvious or memorable. If I pick up a book and the first thing I remember about it is what I didn't like, that's not good. This book the overwhelming memory is of enjoyment and satisfaction. Take that for what it's worth, but if you like clean suspense novels, I'd definitely give this one a try.

Chasing Secrets by Lynette Eason

Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars

____________________________________________________________________________________________
Story Notes

Lynette Eason brings her fourth installment of the Elite Guardians to her readers complete with an explosive (literally) past, and hail of bullets and love made strong through adversity.

Lynette Eason’s ability to bring a story to life with thrilling danger scenes and smart dialogue that draws you into the story completely is what had made and kept me a fan of hers for over 10 years. It really takes a good writer to create fresh and relevant stories that also stand the test of time. I have found that her stories written in the early 2000s are still very good given she doesn’t spend so much time on the technology of the time (outside of helping the case along), but focuses instead on the crime committed and the individuals involved. This latest addition to the Elite Guardians is no exception to her excellent writing and I was so excited that it was offered to me to review. Haley Callaghan has been a good minor character in the past three books about the Guardians, giving snappy responses and tough grit when required. But I was glad to get to read her story – one that has only been hinted at in the first three books. Haley is content with her life, her work, her singleness, and her past but she’s been having dreams lately that seem more memory than sleep fiction. And she’s being followed by a man who takes off every time she tries to confront him. Who or what could possibly be interested in her enough to track her movements? And to top it off, a teen named Zeke in the neighborhood she’s working as a mentor tries to rob her for money for his brother’s medicine. Could her life be any more complicated? Actually, it can, as Ms. Eason introduces Haley to Ian Burke, the grandfather she didn’t know she had, and a whole family with more secrets than she could imagine. Haley will have to wade through all the information and history that comes screaming her way to discover if this family and her inheritance is worth all the danger that it’s bringing to her and her friends. Steven Rothwell (great name choice Ms. Eason) is a newly transferred detective for the Columbia, SC Police Department who is seeking answers to the homicide he and his partner Quinn Holcombe were assigned. Steven has returned to his hometown to help his mother care for his father who’s cancer is not getting better with treatment. But the past tragedy of his brother’s murder makes returning home a wash of unwanted memories for Steven and he’s glad to have work to focus on instead. His world will collide with Haley’s when he and Quinn answer a call for help for “shots fired” near their crime scene. Feeling instant attraction for the tough redhead, Steven makes it his own personal responsibility to find out why someone wants to follow and possibly kill her. Together they will have to sort out which danger comes from whomever in her past that wants her dead and what has been added due to her protection case for Zeke and his family. This is just the sort of complicated spider web I love reading and trying to solve before the end of the book. Ms. Eason gives the findings of the cases involved just as they are discovered by her characters, never giving away the culprit or motive until the last few pages, making my figuring out the truth early all but impossible. I love that her main characters faith in God is so completely woven throughout the story, making their journeys through the presented crises a journey to deepened faith as well. It becomes a challenge for the reader, too, to decide if they would have taken the same path or if there might have been a better one. I also really enjoy her careful use of police terms, ensuring that any and all used are correct and applicable to the situation. Its always a pleasure to read a story in which the author has obviously invested time in the research as well as in the story itself. There is usually a measure of romance added to Ms. Eason’s stories and this book is no exception. The growing attraction between Haley and Steven offers an opportunity for Ms. Eason to make the danger more real to her readers and to help them connect with her characters. If a book makes you frustrated, angry, sad or afraid to any great degree it is always a win for me. Ms. Eason describes the fear of her characters just as if it was her herself and evokes empathy for them when they are deciding whether to take a chance on real friendship or love. Ms. Eason has covered the four main partners of the Elite Guardians but I hope she also will tell Olivia’s brother Charlie’s (he’s funny in the other books) and Bree, Quinn’s former partner, story as I think they have a lot in their past that would make for a good book. Plus there are some new recruits that were just added to the Guardians and I know Ms. Eason can create an amazing story for them. Here’s hoping the next one comes out soon…..I’ve definitely got feelers out for its appearance. I’m also planning to by hard copies of this series for myself and a couple others for Christmas as I think more people should experience these excellent reads.

I received this E-book free of charge from Revell Publishers via NetGalley in exchange for a fair and honest review. I will receive no fiscal compensation from either company for this review.

Chasing Secrets by Lynette Eason.
Elite Guardians bodyguard Haley Callaghan may be in South Carolina, but when a photo leads investigators in West Ireland to open a twenty-five-year-old cold case, her life is suddenly in danger. Haley knows how to take care of herself; after all, she's made a career out of taking care of others. But after an uncomfortably close call, Detective Steven Rothwell takes it upon himself to stay with her--and the young client she has taken under her wing. A protector at heart, he's not about to let Haley fight this battle alone.
A very good read with good characters. It was a bit slow in places. 4*. Netgalley and revell.
