I read this book (and the entire series) with my young daughter, and she loved it! The art looks like the tv show, and the stories are fun and engaging.
This was so sweet and fun! I have not been following the TV show DC Super Hero Girls but I still enjoyed this series a lot and it made me interested in the TV show.
This volume is a bit different because it jumps to different points of view, but it is still very ncie and enjoyable. It is also a great summer read and I loved, as I always do with the Super Hero Girls titles, the positive message and its focus on friendship. Don't get me wrong, we still get our fair share of fights and adventures, but it is very nice to see their friendship. I'm sure kids will love this series.
Fantastic. A great graphic novel to get girls reading the medium.
Updated: My DD and I enjoyed this book immensely! It was a hit, in the very best way.
Unfortunately, I was unable to access this title. I do plan on securing a copy, as it is of great interest to my daughter.
Thank you for the opportunity to review this title.
I gave this one to my 11 year old daughter to read and tell me about. She devoured it in less than an hour! She was immediately ready for the next DC Super Hero Girls book. I purchased this book for the library on her recommendation and it has been one of our most popular titles for younger girl-themed graphic novels.
I have tried again and again to like this graphic novel series, but it is just not happening. They are very cliched, and I know it’s that way for the age they are designed for, but uggghhhh. IN this one Wonder Woman has to spend the summer with Dad on Mt. Olympus. Plus you get the stories of what the other heros are doing for the summer as well, such as helping on the farm, or touring Europe. Its written so much like every other snotty kids books that it drives me crazy and can not get behind it.
A fun book for elementary and middle school fans of the DC Super Hero Girls.
When you get right down to it, the books in this series all have the same message: teamwork, trust, and valuing individuals. There's nothing wrong with those messages, of course. They're pretty standard fare for upper elementary and using superheroes to reinforce those messages is pretty smart maneuvering. Could you tell pretty much this exact same story without the recognizability factor? Sure. But the visual appeal trumps any brand annoyance I might feel. This series remains worth reading.
I will say that Roll Call has gotten a little excessive, so, so many characters now and more and more male ones as well.
Still, that stuff aside, it was a fun little story (especially if you're a kid reading it).
It's Summer vacation and we get to see almost all the kids' vacays. But this story is focused on Wonder Woman's summer vacation to Olympus. Her younger sister Siracca is there, and there is a ton of family drama and of course Wonder Woman, with the help of her friends, have to solve everything and save the day by working together.
It was a fun TPB. Shea Fontana hasn't yet disappointed me.
I got this ARC through Netgalley on behalf of DC Entertainment.
I have been following the adventures of the DC Super Hero girls since the series was first announced. I've admittedly devoured every episode of the web series, purchased the graphic novels (even my NetGalleys!) and collect the dolls and action figures. To say I'm a fan of this generation of DC girls is definitely an understatement.
I really enjoyed Summer Olympus, it was arguably my favorite of the graphic novels. I love the upbeat, positive energy of these stories. The girls confront real issues but resolve them in a way that is both empowering and inspiring. I cannot recommend this series enough to parents and purchased the first graphic novel for my local library. This series builds confidence for children, regardless of gender, and is completely enjoyable as an adult.
If I could give a comic (and line of products) a standing ovation, I absolutely would.
I loved this book. This whole series is a great introduction for young kids to the D.C. Universe, full of strong girls and relateable issues for kids amongst the super squabbles. This dealt with some similar aspects of Diana's family and past as the latest big movie, I actually felt this book did it better.
I read this with my 8 yr old because she is a HUGE DC Super Hero Girls fan. She has a bunch of the dolls, Legos and playsets. When I took her to see Wonder Woman she even brought her DC Super Hero Wonder Woman doll with her.
This wording probably works a little better for starting around the Middle School Age but my daughter didn’t have trouble understanding the story lines. There is a huge bit that involves the Greek Gods and thanks to Rick Riordan she was very familiar with them and their background but if your child isn’t they may need a crash course to keep everything straight and really get all the context. You could easily see a spin off here. Yeah! More toys for me to buy lol
The graphics and color pallet worked well with this age level story and really helped the plot and characters come to life more. Overall it’s just a fun story.
I think it's great to introduce young girls to superheroes. I do think it's odd when the book is full of sexist stereotypes (numerous references to shopping, having to have a matching purse for every outfit, fighting over trivial "girl" things) It's for this reason I will not be sharing this book with the young girls in my life.
This is a good book for kids getting into comics. I love that the super heroines have this series.
The Super Hero Girls is helping to introduce new readers to awesome comic book characters in an appealing format.
Fun read. Great illistrations. Liked the story. Love the superheroes! Would recommend.
My daughter and I read this together and we both enjoyed it. She specifically liked that Wonder Woman discovered how love and friendship were the only things that could truly save the day. There was plenty of action and entertainment throughout the book along with good morals and tough decisions to be made. Great graphic novel.
Diana and her friends at Super Hero High are ready for summer break, and everyone has fun plans for their time off. For young Wonder Woman, there is an invitation to spend time with her father's side of the family in Olympus. So Diana and her pal Bumblebee are hanging out with the Olympian gods and demigods when Batgirl, Beast Boy, and Katana come across a mysterious thief who is stealing classic artifacts from museums across Europe. But eventually these story lines will have to merge, because the stolen items all belong to Diana's half-siblings from her father Zeus.
Summer Olympus is a mix of school story, super hero action, and summer adventure. It also features the half-goddess side of Wonder Woman's background. This could be an introduction to mythology, or for readers who already have an interest, it can be a different view of these ancient literary figures. Perhaps the most important theme in the story is friendship. We see different groupings of the characters who choose to spend their vacation together, and interactions between the characters through phone calls and social media. But the power of their "sisterhood" may not be enough to overcome the villains.
Whether you are already interested in the characters, or this is an introduction to them, these stories show these young women (and a few of their male friends), learning to handle their powers and becoming the figures we are more familiar with in their adult personas.
