A good selection of recipes in this lovely book with great cookie photos. However not all are actually cookie recipes and they are often labelled as general holiday cookies. The cookies are from many parts of the world but what most of the Christmas cookies we have in Austria and Germany never made it to the pages. Some of the cookies are not correctly prepared like the Italian biscotti. They are not actually holiday cookies anyway. Biscotti are thinly sliced and crispy and are served with tea or coffee. Palmiers are French pastries, they do not contain cinnamon. Good try.
Holiday Cookies by Elisabet Der Nederlanden will help anyone swing into the holiday spirit as the photos and recipes are festive. Throughout her cookbook you will find plenty of color photos, a Gingerbread House pattern, and of course lots of fabulous Christmas cookie recipes.
Some of the recipes you'll find include:
Fruitcake Shortbread
Swedish Pepparkakor
Peanut Butter-Chocolate Crunch Squares
Dolly-Rolled Gingersnaps
3-D Christmas Trees
Gingerbread House (with included template)
At the end of the book the author has thoughtfully included a sources section that tells where you can buy various baking supplies.
Recommend.

When my kids were still kids we always made cookies during the holidays. Now that I have Grand Kids we keep the tradition going. The kids come over a couple at a time and we spend the day making cookies. As my kids have more kids, we are up to 11 now I found my self running short of different types of cookies for the kids to make on their day with Nana. This book is wonderful with so many different types of cookies and ideas for them. I don't see myself running short this year. The hard part this year will be deciding which recipes to use.
Going to a festive potluck? Hosting a cookie swap? Celebrating with family as church? Holiday Cookies has a recipe to suit any Christmas event you may find yourself in. The instructions are thorough leaving little room for mishap and the photography is beautiful.
I loved this! Lately I have been on a cookbook binge trying to find new recipes. This book not only makes me excited for the holidays to get here but to also just bake in general.
This book includes everything about cookies and how to make them. Nice illustrations for many, but not all recipes, are included. There sections about cookies how to make and to decorate, to package and to entertain using cookies. My favorite sections are how to make 3D ginger-bread cookies creations and about around the world. This book could be a great present for cookie makers and their children.
This is a gorgeous book. The photograph are beautiful and look delicious. I love that the recipes are a mix of familiar and new. Some of my favorites, like spritz and gingerbread are included as well as some new and interesting sounding treats.. All of the recipes look doable for novice bakers as well as seasoned bakers. This book is a treat to read and to use.
A beautifully illustrated book, full of mouth watering pictures. I particularly liked the inclusion of a section on packing cookies for presentation. It is a book for those wanting to make cookies as gifts or as visually appealing as possible. Overall a good little book with a good variety of recipes.
