I am not sure if this book was really needed for the series. It was a strange addition to what I felt was a decent duology. Yes, I thought the last book had a couple loose ends, but this whole book I wasn't really sure worked.
For starters, the some of the characters behaved rather strangely for the situations they were in. Amethyst in particular. In one chapter she is hysteric about finding her kidnapped daughter, then the next she's acting like she's fine. Either she is extremely good at locking away the panic of not knowing where her infant is, something I know I wouldn't be able to do at all if something happened to my son, or something is amiss.
I was a little lost while reading this book, but it has been a while since I have read book 2. But it had a very strange vibe to throughout. I didn't enjoy this book as much as I had hoped. It was just strange and I don't think it was written as well as the other books.
I got this book to review through NetGalley. This was a good continuation of the Treasure Chronicles. The writing is well done, easy to read, and makes for a book that is hard to put down. There are a lot more politics/conspiracy and less steampunk adventure than in the previous two books; so I didn't like it quite as much as the first two books. However, it was still an excellent read.
Time has past since the second book; Clark and Amethyst are well off and have a young daughter. I continue to enjoy Clark and Amethyst quite a bit, they are very fun characters to read about.
I was a bit disappointed that there aren’t a ton of steampunk elements in this book. We do get to venture through a clockwork circus which was neat. However, most of the story focused on a government conspiracy around the type of research and elixirs that gave Clark his special abilities.
Even though I don’t usually enjoy conspiracy novels with a lot of political content; Elizabeth’s writing flows beautifully and is very easy and engaging to read. I whipped right through this book and enjoyed it a lot.
Overall this was a good continuation of the Treasure Chronicles. I enjoyed the characters and the world. I was a bit disappointed on all the focus on conspiracy and the reduction of steampunky goodness. However this is still a very good read. I would recommend to those who enjoy historical fantasy with some adventure and paranormal elements.
Clark and Amethyst are just living their lives when a clockwork lion takes their daughter from them. They get a lead that takes them on an adventure neither was looking for. As they look for answers to why someone would take their daughter, they uncover a conspiracy that is about more than just their family … it concerns the country. What will Clark and Amethyst be required to survive in this tale?
Wicked Treasure is the third book in the Treasure Chronicles. Although it has been awhile since I read the first two books, the characters quickly pulled me into the story and I was easily swept away with this new journey. Mierek has reinvigorated this clockwork world and promises additional stories will come along. Wicked Treasure is a fun read, but would be best enjoyed in the proper sequence.
This is the third installment of the treasure chronicles and while I still love the series the characters that I itched to read about just didn't have the same draw for me this time around.
Clarke is still great but i wanted to see more of what made me like him so much from the first book. I am not sure what it was maybe he grew too fast for my comfort.
