What a marvelous surprise and enjoyable read. As an immense fan of the Tempe Brennan books, I was a bit let down initially that the latest was a standalone, but the character is great- tough, clever, and the cult story is engaging and solid. Another guaranteed hit, for a summer favorite, and I'm happy to spread the word.

I’ve been reading books by Kathy Reichs’ for years. I love her Temperance Brennan series. When I saw she had a stand-alone novel coming out I was very excited to get it. Unfortunately it just didn't work for me. (I may be in the minority on this one).
Sunday Night (the main Character's name-not the day of the week) was once a highly decorated police officer now a self-imposed recluse.
She retired from the police department following an altercation that left a man dead and Sunday with a permanent disability. Not wanting to spend her career sitting behind a desk, she opted out. Sharp witted sarcasm is her defense against the world around her.
Opaline Drucker's daughter and grandson are killed following a brutal attack. Her granddaughter Stella is missing. Sunday is hired to find the missing girl and those responsible for the murders.
Quick chapters with fast quipped verbiage. Flew through it very quickly which I normally like, but I found myself rushing through without absorbing the story-line. I had a hard time connecting to the main character. I didn't find Sunday very likable. But then maybe that was the point? By the time we were given insight into Sunday's true soul, well, it was just too late for me. I was disappointed as Kathy Reichs is one of my favorite authors and I had such high hopes for this book.
2.5*
Thank you to NetGalley, Random House Publishing Group – Ballantine and Kathy Reichs for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Reichs give us a thrilling standalone novel with a dark and gritty protagonist. Sunday Night is an ex-military hermit, hiding her damaged face and soul on a tiny island of the coast of South Carolina. But when a rich matriarch asks for her help finding her granddaughter who has been abducted by a cult, Night's own past compels her to help. You might not want Sunday Night as a dinner guest, but you would be hard pressed to find a better investigator. Fast-paced and with a really well-crafted plot, TWO NIGHTS is a great read that will be popular with fans of Michael Connelly and Robert Crais as well as die-hard Reichs fans.

I enjoy Reichs’ “Bones” series featuring Temperance Brennan. In this novel, a new protagonist, Sunday (Sunnie) Night is introduced and she is very different from Temperance. With her own rough back story, Sunnie is hired to get answers about a year old bombing in which her employer’s daughter and grandson were killed and granddaughter is still missing.

I look forward to each new “Bones” novel and as I began reading Two Nights, I wasn’t sure if I would like this new character. She is a damaged soul who is savvy, physical, and tough.

This is a fast read. There may be times when you aren’t sure you know what is going on, but stick with it and all will be answered.

I enjoy Reichs’ writing. She has a clever way with words and a good sense of humor comes through. If this becomes a series, I don't think it will replace the "Bones" series as a favorite, but I would certainly read the next one!

I'm not a huge fan of this kind of thriller, but I gave this book a shot because I like Kathy Reichs' Bone series. Even though I wasn't expecting to love it, I was expecting to like it more than I did. The story wasn't compelling to me, I didn't care about the characters, and it all felt a little too much like she was trying to be topical.

5 stars

Sunday “Sunnie” Night is an ex-military, ex-cop young woman who is living on a nearly deserted island with her squirrel friend Bob. She chooses to live in isolation and silence. She is approached by a former colleague to take on the disappearance of a girl who is one of the missing victims of a bombing that killed her mother and a sibling.

She verbally spars with the matron of the family. She is very wealthy, very old and very determined to get her own way. Sunnie decides to take the case.

This is a very well written and plotted book. Although it is a departure from Kathy Reichs Temperance Brennan novels, it is nonetheless a very good book. I truly enjoyed it. The suspense level was great and there was enough background information given about Sunnie to satisfy the reader but not so much as to distract from the content of the book.

I want to thank Netgalley and Random House Publishing Group – Ballantine/Bantam very much for forwarding to me a copy of this most wonderful book to read.

It took me a little while to get into this one - I felt as though I didn't "click" with the main character, initially. As I kept reading, though, I did start to get a better sense of her and had a greater understanding of her life and background. I'm not sure it hooked me in quite as thoroughly as the Temperance Brennan series has in the past, but I found it an easy read and did enjoy the twists and turns that took place towards the end.

Sunday Night, raised in a cult and abused by the Leader, lives her life in solitude on an Island. She returns to rescue Stella, a young girl that was taken when her mother and brother were killed in
a bombing. There is a lot of action, with murder and terrorism at the top of the list.
The storyline is great and mostly flows at a good pace. I lose myself in the flow of a story, and the questions that were asked during the story broke that flow. It's a writing style that's not my taste.
Other than that, it was full of suspense with compelling characters and a great ending.
I liked it and recommend it to others.

Once of the best books I have read this year... Kathy Reichs gives us a new character to love... in addition to Tempe Brennan. Sunday Night is fantastic, complex, and simply wonderful. Two Nights twists, turns, and cleverly links two tales together... It's an amazing read that I could not put down. Please give us more Sunday Night! Loved it!!!

Really enjoyed Reichs' new in-your-face character, Sunday Night. She reminds me of her male counterparts in Baldacci, Child, and Coben books.

Premise: I really like Kathy Reichs, and I have always gladly read all her books in the Temperance Brennan series. I therefore welcomed very much the chance to read something new and different, but I must say that I was not very happy with the change. This new Sunday Night character reminds me of too many books I've already read whose main detective character, or former detective, are ruined from childhood, with their behavior over the top and their allergy to a normal coexistence with civil society, which is at the same time their gift and their damnation. Not even the plot, which has to do with American domestic terrorism and cults is new, in fact has a number of illustrious and less illustrious predecessors, and even the introduction of an exotic colored twin for our redheaded detective manages to make the narrative original. Last but not least, although well-written the novel lacks the pleasant writing which Reichs had accustomed me.
I thank Random House Publishing Group - Ballantine and Netgalley for giving me a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

I discovered Kathy Reichs years ago in kind of a backwards way; I fell in love with a unique and intriguing television show. I’m sure I don’t even have to mention the name because you already know which one I’m referring to; right here let’s take a moment to mourn the fact this amazing show just ended this month after airing nearly 250 episodes for an remarkable 12 seasons. Why is it important to talk about a TV Show named Bones? This was loosely based on the life and writings of our esteemed author. An inspiring woman whose resume includes being a forensic anthropologist on top of being an award winning novelist. She has written nearly 20 books in her Temperance Brennan series, 6 novellas, and a 6 book YA series. Two Nights is her first stand-alone novel.

At this point you should want to buy her book just based on her impressive reputation and resume. Anyone with that kind of background deserves a shot to see what else she can bring to the table. Now let me tell you why you should pick this book up based on its own merits.

In typical Reichs style her writing is extremely descriptive to the point the chapters fly by creating movie quality images in your mind. The way she sets scenes and describes the characters, not just how they look but their mannerisms and body language, you can’t help but feel like you’re watching this story instead of reading it. It’s even possible to hear the voices of her characters because of how vividly she has created them. This novel will fly by as you lose yourself in the world and people Reichs has created; it’s so good that if left to your own devices you could easily finish this off within a few hours as you become glued to finding out the success or failure of Sunnie’s mission to save a missing girl.

Sunnie Night is this loner, ex-cop, ex-marine, all around bad-ass. She also feels like a perpetual failure who can’t measure up so she has rage issues and less than idyllic mental health making those who know her perpetually worry where on the spectrum of sanity she sits. All of this makes her a very complex and intriguing character because she is someone who desperately needs to be saved from herself but doesn’t feel deserving of it. The only thing she can do is turn around and hopefully save someone else, almost as if she’s balancing out some kind of karmic scale. She has this great sense of humor embedded with so much snarky sarcasm and wit she’ll have you laughing to the point you forget this is a mystery instead of a comedy at times.

Reich’s brought out her trademark in this story line filling her plot and character’s actions/motivations with plenty of trepidation, wit, cryptic clues and a surprising amount of warmth in that you will feel your heart strings tug for Sunnie. You will ride in the cart alongside her for sure in this emotional rollercoaster that still maintained an air of realism. There’s bombs, murder, missing kids, religion gone awry, cult-like leaders, it’s got everything you could ask for in a thrilling, action packed novel.

Even her title is meaningful to the story which you will discover along the way.

Since this is my 200th review of 2017 it was important to me that I find a truly worthy book to hold that place, one I can recommend wholeheartedly and I do so with this one.
Bones may have ended this month but Kathy Reichs proves she has staying power beyond the Fox Network and her beloved character Temperance Brennan. Here’s hoping Sunnie Night is here to stay as part of Reichs literary resume and will continue to grace our shelves in the years to come. Maybe if we’re really lucky Brennan and Night will cross paths….

Temperance Brennan has been a favorite of mine for many years. Well, move over Temperance, Sunday is in the house !! Dark, suspenseful, edge of your seat twists and turns. I fell in love with Sunnie's snarky sarcastic wit that had me laughing out loud. Very believable story line that pulls you in from the very beginning. I felt as if I knew Sunnie and felt her pain. If you enjoy thrillers and mysteries, then this is a must read. I'm looking forward to more Sunnie. I only wish I could give this book more than 5 stars !

Kathy Reichs has always been one of my favorite authors, but now she tops the list! I wish I could give more than 5 stars. The main character Sunnie Night has a quirky, sarcastic humor that makes you literally laugh out loud the entire novel. The story line has humor, suspense, mystery and even some tugging on your heartstrings. Even the title is amazing after you start reading the book and realize what it is referring to. I can`t recommend this book more and hope that this is the start of a long series of novels. Thank you once again Kathy Reichs.

I have read all of Reichs books in the Temperance Brennan series and while, they have been hit and miss for me, I always enjoyed the writing and the tone of the novels.

This novel??? wow! the tone is so dark and dreary that I derived no pleasure reading the storyline. As soon as I read the first few lines in which a next door neighbour hangs himself and his dog dies next to him - I felt turned off. I am not a prude, nor do I mind a creepy read, but this felt more sadistic and tentalizing than anything else.

Nope, this is a pass for me.

I'm a huge Temperance Brennan fan, so when I read the author Kathy Reichs had a new female lead character I was thrilled.
And the thrill never left me even after I finished TWO NIGHTS. In one sitting!
Sunday Night has a tortured childhood past. Stints in the military and as a police office have added to her internal battles and physical tortures. She lives alone, isolated and cut off from most of humanity. People who don't know her fear she isn't sane. Those that do know her know she teeters between madness and lucidity.
When her old foster parent gives her the chance to break her self-imposed isolation, Sunday is torn. Should she venture back out into the world to try and help a child, who much like herself, seemed tormented and troubled, or stay on her island, literally awash in solitude.
Thank goodness Sunday chooses to help.
TWO NIGHTS is a smart, fast-paced, in-depth story about terrorism - both political and psychological, idealism and family desires.
I literally can't wait for the next SUNDAY NIGHT story. Temperance Brennan: there's a new girl in town.

Reichs leaves behind Temperance Brennan for this standalone thriller. Sunday Night, or Sunnie has led a complicated life, one that has left her different from other people, both physically and psychologically. She has learned to take care of herself, brutally and efficiently if need be and has kept herself apart from others, not letting herself feel anything for anyone. Now, there is a girl missing and believed dead, but what if the girl is still alive? Does she even want to be found? What separates what happened to Sunnie from what may have happened to the lost girl? In looking for the girl, Sunnie is also looking into her own past and a nightmare she would rather forget. Reichs is an exceptional writer, always able to catch and hold readers captive. I liked Sunnie, who couldn’t be more different then Tempe.
