I have read many of Kathy Reich's books so was excited to read this. I was left disappointed and struggled to read til the end. I struggled to like the main character, Sunday Night, and found this made enjoying the book difficult. I found the plot a bit weak and questioned how the Chicago Police struggled to solve the case without Sunday's help. I do feel there is more to come and believe another book with Sunday as the main character coming, I believe her character has far more development that just wasn't possible in this book...will I read it.? Probably!

This is NOT a Temperance Brennan book. This in NO way is even like a Temperance Brennan book, but that is not to say that it is bad, it isn't, I really enjoyed it. Sunday Night (the name of the heroine) is trying to recover from trauma that she has suffered from childhood on. Because of all this she has gone into seclusion on an island, but she is drawn out when she is asked to find a child that has been abducted by the people who bombed a Jewish school. With twists and turns that will keep you wondering what is going to happen next, this is a hard book to put down. I hope there are more Sunday Nights to come.

Sure, I'm damaged. I live alone with no permanent phone or internet account. I have a scar I refuse to fix. I dislike being touched and have a temper that's my own worst enemy. I use icy showers and grueling workouts to escape stress and trick my brain into making me feel strong. Yeah I have my crazies, but I've managed to cling to my identity. To not lose myself.

Sunday Night is a complex character in this thriller. Even though she isolates herself from everyone, she connects to others in her drive to find justice. If not for herself, for those she has been hired to find. Her service has been requested by a grandmother seeking to find her granddaughter who was taken by terrorist in Chicago. Her grandson and daughter were killed in the terrorist attack in a apparent attack against a Jewish school.

Night goes to Chicago looking for clues and finds trouble. The kind of trouble that gets you killed.
This is the best kind of thriller where it is both plot and character driven. The surveillance that Night does to bring out the terrorist and to protect herself is detailed and quite thrilling. You are kept on your toes and your fingers are turning the next page.

There are unforgettable characters in this one as well which builds upon the plot and the development of Night's own character. I was totally entertained with this one.

This was a really good read. Different from some of Kathy's usual writings, but still a book I couldn't put down.

I love her Temperance Brennan series and was hoping to like this new character as much. You would think by giving her the name of Sunday Night, she would have some humor, but this was not the case. If this is the start of a new series, I hope she develops Sunday as time goes on. If this stays a stand alone novel, then it's a nice change from Temperance.

I was very excited to start a new Kathy Reichs, as I've been a huge fan of Bones (the tv show) as well as the Temperance Brennan series. This book is a stand alone, and was a bit of getting used to - I kept on expecting Tempe to pop in! Even though the main character's name didn't really do it for me, it was entertaining to read a Reichs book with another heroine character! Entertaining and recommended!

Sunday “Sunnie” Night is a former cop with a rough past. She has turned into a recluse living on Goat Island in South Carolina. She spends her time tortured by her past which includes an incident on the force leaving her scarred. Opaline Drucker hires her to investigate what really happened to her granddaughter, Stella, after a bombing that claimed the life of her daughter and grandson. Sunday takes the job because she feels drawn to Stella. What happens next brings up old ghosts for Sunnie. Will she be able to separate what happened to her and Stella in her mind? Will she be able to save Stella?

This was a VERY different book by Reichs. She is one of my auto-buy authors due to her Temperance Brennan stories. While this work was different, I still found it enjoyable and dark. Reichs did a very masterful job of pulling you into the damaged psyche of Sunday and making you feel her mental torments. I did like the twists and turns in the book. It took me until the end to realize that parts of the story I was reading really belonged to a different character than I thought. I don’t want to go into too many details due to spoilers.

The only drawback I had was I felt it was unrealistic. I find it hard to believe one little female could have that much mental and physical damage and still be able to function in the capacity she did as an investigator. Also, the way she “won” some of the skirmishes seemed over the top. That being said, this is a thriller, so that goes along with the genre. If you have read and enjoyed Reichs previous works, I would recommend this one. I would give it a 3 out of 5.

I enjoyed this book. It was fast paced, good story and mystery. I liked getting to know some of Sunnie Night's background and the other characters. There were plenty of twists and turns until the end.

I look forward to more Sunnie Night books.

The story keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole time!

I enjoy suspense, mystery and thriller books, but this one wasn't a very good one of these for me.
There was a lot of pages explaining areas and travels and sights that I just skipped over. I realize the main character Sunday Night was a former police officer and would have used these details in explaining her steps in solving or working a case, but the reader of this book didn't need these details. In other words, I wish the book had gone to the main points of the story line and skipped the particulars. If you enjoy very detailed crime fighting and case working of a police office or other law enforcer, then you may like this book.

A new direction from Reichs!

Kathy Reichs has moved away from her Tempe Brennan series and introduces the reader to a new protagonist. Still set in Charleston we are given Sunnie Night, an ex-army, ex-police officer with a dark past and an uncertain present; she is a strong and wilful woman who has hidden herself away after a series of traumatic incidents, and who desperately needs a sense of direction.

Her erstwhile guardian Beau Beaumonde, himself ex-police, is determined to pull her kicking and screaming back into the world, and with this aim he comes to her with a case; Opaline Drucker's granddaughter went missing a year previously following a terrorist bomb attack which killed her mother and brother. Opaline wants the culprits found and punished, and to know if her granddaughter is still alive.

Reluctantly Sunnie takes on the case which the police have not yet solved, making her, of course, very popular with the case officers. Dauntless she throws everything she has into her investigation and turns up a seriously troubling set of anti-Islamic vigilantes calling themselves 'Jihad for Jesus'.

These fanatics seem to be fairly inept, but still cause a major threat; Sunnie must identify their leader and foil their future plans. To assist, she enlists her twin brother Gus who strangely is dark-skinned whilst she is a redhead – go fathom..

Reichs is a master of plot development, suspense, fast action and misdirection; there are surprises aplenty to keep the reader busy. Her characters are wholly plausible (even if their names aren't!), and never lacking in courage whichever side they are on. There is also an unnamed diarist to keep us guessing.

I enjoyed this diversion from one of my favourite authors, who always manages to combine suspense with a little humour. My guess is that Sunnie Night is here to stay.

Sunny Night has lived a hard childhood. She was rescued by Beau when she was a teenager than told she either join the marines or else. After she left the marines, she joined the police force. She retired from that to go live on an island where she builds her own home out of "this and that." The only way to get to her place is by boat. She gets the occasional visit from her friend Beau. Beau comes to her with a job for her. She is to find a rich woman's granddaughter who disappeared when her mother and brother were killed by a bomb by accident. She survived but disappeared. What happened to her? Sunny decides to take the job as she doesn't want the girl to suffer if she has been forced into a cult. Will Sunny find her?

I enjoyed the book as I saw Sunny as a strong woman who survives no matter what. I could tell that Sunny identified with the granddaughter. It is a story that didn't slow down. I enjoyed the mystery of both the granddaughter and Sunny. It is a novel full of twists and turns that surprised me. I hope the author writes more Sunny Night's novels. Read it!

This was a good, solid stand alone novel from Kathy Reichs. I loved the Temperance series so I was not at all surprised by the strong, tough lead named Sunday Night. I preferred Bones but this was a decent read.

Two Nights doesn't feature Reich's main character of Dr Temperance Brennan, but it was just as satisfying a read. The new character, Sunday Night, is a bit prickly, but she knows what she's doing and she gets the job done. The story line took a bit to get into, but once it did, it was non-stop action as Sunday and her brother solved the mystery. There's also some flashbacks that don't seem to make a lot of sense until the end, but when the pieces fall in place it's a mindbender. Worth a read if you like murder mystery stories.

When a former "cult" kid goes in search of a current "cult" kid, you know it's not going to be pretty. Murder, mayhem, bombings and more pepper this tragic story. This is a standalone Reichs book that is very different from her other works. While the ending was not totally satisfying, it ended as best it could considering the characters and all their flaws.

I rarely give 5 book reviews to any books. I mean I like the books usually and I want them to be successful, but this book struck me at a time when I have been battling some demons of my own. I still have them, but at least I needed to hear that it would be worth something to do that. I strongly encourage you to read the book. You will enjoy it!!!

I love Kathy Reichs characters she creates and the tough storylines she find to share but I always have a hard time with the crude elements she includes and the foul language that she finds it necessary to use. I will not be reviewing this on my blog as I can't in good conscience promote the book. It was a deep book with a terrible tragedy at the center and the mystery was well developed. Kathy Reichs never fails on that score and I would love to read more but I'm uncomfortable when I am continually assaulted with content that makes me frown or wince. She brings the ugly truth out in all it's glory and it's shockingly real and raw. I hate to take away from that but I always believe you can handle it in a cleaner better way that conveys the despair without being excessively depressing.

Having long loved the TV series "Bones", I was thrilled to read one of the books by the author behind that series. This book didn't disappoint me. This is a new detective, but one I really liked. The puns are so funny, and I hope this is the start of a new series. This book stands alone, and I really liked it! Sunnie is pretty cool.

Kathy Reich's introduces new protagonist, Sunday Nights. The plot was interesting but the characters were not as strong as in her previous books.
