Kaylee Ramay is on the run from a dangerous criminal mastermind and finds herself in Monroe, Colorado, with a new name, no home, and no job. Now Grace Robinson, she finds herself living with another family also on the run.

Grace finds a job working at a kennel and cleaning up dog poo which is quite a change from her previous position as a fund raiser for a college. In Monroe, she meets Hugh Murdoch who is a police officer on medical leave until he heels from a gunshot wound to his thigh. Hugh is bored and decides that uncovering Grace's secrets would be just the thing to fill in his time until he can go back on duty.

Grace is scared but strong. She also quickly fits in and finds Monroe and Hugh a good fit for her. Hugh is a complete goofball. His care-free, talkative, and rather annoying personality hides a serious and smart police officer though. When the two of them suffer a number of close calls and near fatal accidents it isn't clear whether Hugh or Grace is the actual target. When Grace shares her secret and trusts Hugh, they figure out why they are being targeted.

This story is packed with action laced with a good amount of humor. It also has a nicely hot relationship between Grace and Hugh. Fans of romantic suspense won't want to miss this second book in the Rocky Mountain K-9 Unit series.

I revieved a free ARC from NetGalley for my honest review. This is the second book in the Rocky Mountain K9 Unit series. We met Hugh in the first book. Grace (Kaylee)is on the run a witness to a terrible crime. She runs to the Rockies, and she gets a job at the dog kennel.  The hardest  part of the job is to avoid drawing  attention from Hugh. He was injured in the line of duty. He is anxious to get back on the job but until then he is having fun getting to know Grace. A snipers bullet forces Grace to make a choice between keeping her secrets or getting herself and Hugh killed. This was a great book I really  liked Hugh. He was funny and annoying at times. I really feel the chemistry between Hugh and Grace and once I started reading I couldn't put the book down. I give this book 5 stars and I can't wait to read the next book.

Katie Ruggle is a new, but amazing author! Her dive team series was just fantastic, and I was so excited for this book....unfortunately, this just wasn't as enjoyable as her previews reads for me, and I know exactly why....

Somehow I managed to completely miss the first book in the series. This is the second, and I went in completely unknowing I should've waited on this one, because I would have to say these must be read in order. A good chunk of the story was spent trying to figure out who characters were, and what references meant, when they must have taken place in book one....

Once I familiarized myself with who was who, and developed a sense of understanding, it did start flowing better, and I loved the relationship between the K-9 team....but as it stands, for me, this was 3 stars since I came into it blind, but my guess would be for those that read book one, this is probably closer to 4/5.

I am definitely excited for book 3 now that I am familiar with everyone up to this point, but be careful you read these in order! This author is definitely worth committing to a series for!

This was the first time I read anything by Katie Ruggle and I would like to read more! I did not read the first book of this series, so I think it can be a standalone because I was not confused by the characters. On the Chase is book #2 in this series. We are introduced to Kaylee, who is at a fancy dinner with a new guy she has been dating. She feels that she is lucky to have landed such a great guy. However, Kaylee witnesses something she was not supposed to see and is now forced to flee. She lets her best friend know she is leaving, and takes off to a small Colorado town. She has some help in setting up and new identity and from that point on, she is known as Grace.
Hugh, who is a K9 cop that has been injured and currently on desk duty, shows up with his friend at the house that Grace is staying at. He notices her right away and starts to question who she is and where she came from. Needless to say, Grace is quite flustered. However, as her past threatens to catch up with her, she finds that she can trust Hugh. One of the secondary characters, Lexi, Hugh's K9 partner, really likes Grace.
She story has a lot of suspense, action, intrigue and definitely some scorching romance. Huge and Grace make a good couple. The story is not particularly explicit, it's more of a slow burn romance and it's sweet. Hugh is definitely an alpha male - in and out of the bedroom. There are some humorous parts that will have you laughing out loud. The dialogue flows well. The author did a nice job with the setting, characters and action. I really enjoyed it and definitely recommend it. The ending is satisfying, mystery resolved and readers can look forward to another book by Katie Ruggle.

Katie Ruggle has quickly become an auto buy for me. And this new book in the Rocky Mountain K-9 Unit just proves it again!

This is Kaylee and Hugh's story and it's humorous as well as action filled and has the plus of the K-9 partners.

Kaylee is dating a new guy, Noah, and her friend, Penny is not a fan. When she goes to meet Noah's uncle for a dinner party she stumbles on something that has her running for her life.

When she employs the service of Mr. Espina she ends up visiting Jules and the kids and meeting Hugh. With the kids, Theo, and Hugh wondering about her story she is panicking and wants to run again.

With K-9 handler Hugh determined to get to the real answers he is completely exasperating and makes her angry. They begin a verbal sparring match that sets the tone for the book between the two.

With Hugh out on medical leave he has little to distract from the boredom that has become his life than to aggravate his friends and now he has a new puzzle to solve. He wants Jules and the kids safe so he decides he will find out her her new visitor is and if she poses a threat. But with eyes full of fear it seems more likely that she's in trouble. What he doesn't realize is that she isn't the only one.

I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Wow! What a mind-blowing story of murder, mayhem, and intrigue. Book really took off about a third of the way through up to the end.

The opening scene of ON THE CHASE gripped me, and then the book didn't let me go. Katie Ruggle knows how to write suspense and exciting police procedurals, and this book was no exception. It was a page-turner.

There was also a good dose of humor in the book. Hugh had some laugh-out-loud lines. More than that, Hugh and Grace/Kaylee were funny and cute together.

I really enjoyed ON THE CHASE.

It's really hard to write a review for an author you come to admire for her tight plot, cohesive story structure and fantastic sets of characters that make for great books and a memorable series but I will try. On the Chase is the second book in the Rocky Mountain K9 Unit and like the first series the male protagonists are part of law enforcement. This time its a K9 unit in the town of Monroe, Colorado. Therefore a plus they have dogs in this series! Instead of an overarching mystery plot, these books are anchored by one person, Jules, who was the female protagonist of the first book, On the Ground.
So all female protagonists therefore are running from something and are hiding out with new identities in Monroe. Despite that, On the Chase can definitely be read as a standalone.

On the Chase features Hugh and Grace and these two will definitely entertain readers with their humorous bantering and their ability to attract trouble wherever they go. There is a lot of action here and its obvious that someone/s are trying to kill them. But who and the identity of the villain will kind of keep the readers guessing how its all going to play out. Its a slow boil romance for Hugh and Grace but it isn't any less sizzling or sweet but there is definitely a lot of humor despite the dangers they face. On the Chase will definitely keep you reading for more of this series.

It's hard to believe that it's possible to be laughing out loud during intense and dangerous scenes. Hugh and Grace are the best comic relief couple I have ever come across in a story. The author is a writing genius in how she is able to blend drama and humor, mixed with perfect timing. Nothing was over the top or cheesy, just good, solid writing depicting a wonderfully vivid imagination.

I became enthralled with the drama, then was drawn into the banter and humor that was all Hugh at first...then intensified when he and Grace came together. The personalities of these two were effortlessly genuine...the dialogue and banter was wry and smart.

This is the first book by this author I've read...it's so well written that it's a given that I will be coming back for more with the next story in the series...not to mention, catch up with Theo and Jules' story. Dare I hope Otto finds his own HEA?

This ARC book was complimentary, provided by the Publisher and Netgally, I am voluntarily provided my honest review.

Full review to be published online with the early September review batch.

ON THE CHASE is the second book in Katie Ruggles new “Rocky Mountain K9 Unit”. I was a bit leery about this one. After having loved Ruggles last series, the first book in this new series fell a bit flat for me. Not to worry, the author bounced right back and gave us the quality read here that we've come to expect from her.

In ON THE CHASE, Grace is struggling with a new identity and running from the mob. She has nobody or nothing to rely on. She's all alone in the world, but finds a job a the K9 kennel. This leads her to contact with Hugh, and the attraction is immediate. Grace also finds that she has really does have a few people she can trust. Jules and her brood of siblings know what it's like to be on the run. Cranky, grumpy Theo adores Jules too much to look too deeply into her story of Grace being a friend from out of town. Hugh and the rest of the police department are there to support Grace when things get hairy.

ON THE CHASE is a lovely story of second chances; both in life and in love. Recommended.

ON THE CHASE by Katie Ruggle is the second in her Rocky Mountain K-9 Unit series. It's completely standalone, as I hadn't read the first book but had no trouble understanding this one. And it made me want to go back and read the first! ON THE CHASE is a fast-paced, enjoyable read by a new superstar in romantic suspense.

Kaylee sees something she shouldn't and ends up in real danger when she goes to the police to report it. The criminal she encountered has ties everywhere, so she flees to Monroe, Colorado, a sleepy small town in the Colorado Rockies. There, she becomes Grace, a woman trying desperately to live under the radar while she figures out her next move.

But sexy K-9 cop Hugh Murdoch has a nose for untruths, and he sees more than just a beautiful woman in Grace. He sees a woman scared and needing his help. Except Hugh seems to be in as much trouble as Grace, with a mysterious criminal targeting him. And the sparks begin flying.

The banter between Grace (Kaylee) and Hugh is nonstop throughout the book. The sexual tension is high, and though there's only one love scene towards the end of the story, it fits nicely. The build-up as the two get to know each other better reads true, but at times the banter got to be a little overdone. Though Hugh is described as serious underneath it all, he rarely lets that side of himself show, and I would have liked to have seen more of the tough cop underneath the joker.

Though I had no doubt he was a strong, courageous officer, Hugh makes a few choices that seem to put the heroine in unnecessary danger. I couldn't wrap my head around them or I'd have rated the book higher. However, the treatment of Leah, the canine, is lovely and makes the story richer. Hugh's connection to his furry partner adds a nice dimension.

ON THE CHASE is a thoroughly enjoyable story. Fans of romantic suspense will not want to miss this entertaining book. I eagerly await Otto's story to come in SURVIVE THE NIGHT, coming Feb 2018. And I plan to go back and read Theo's story in book 1, RUN TO GROUND.

Oh, Hugh. I LIKED HIM. From his joking to his pointed questions to his determination to keep Kaylee/Grace safe no matter the cost. (And from here on out, I'll refer to her as Grace just so I don't confuse myself more than I normally am.) *le sigh*

While Hugh plays the friendly joker, Grace is struggling. As I'm sure we all know, things are never simple when you're running from the mob and have no one but yourself to rely on. Except Grace really does have a few people she can trust. Jules and her brood of siblings know what it's like to be on the run. Cranky Theo (I sill love me a grumpy hero) adores Jules too much to look too deeply into her story of Grace being a friend from out of town. Hugh and the rest of the police department (although Hugh is *probably* the main one here) are there to support Grace when things get hairy.

In other words, as bad as things are, Grace has a support structure when she needs it.

And she does need it.

As tends to happen, things aren't as straightforward as they seem on the surface. Hugh is more involved than he realizes and things are going down that no one could suspect in their sleepy Colorado town.

*thumbs up* all around.

Kaylee/Grace and Hugh's dynamic is everything. Their banter is awesome. The only part that bothered me is when she saves something that is immensely important to Hugh but he doesn't really show his gratitude for it. They just quickly move on without acknowledging it.
