The sample was okay. I like how the opening scene is Louna essentially questioning true love, which guides the reader into the focus of the story. It might have been the bride who asked for Louna's opinion, but it definitely that Louna questions it too. Louna seems like a likable enough character.
However, the content is not for me. It might be because of all the wedding talk. I'm married and didn't make too big of a fuss. We didn't hire anyone to help; we did all ourselves - I even made my own three-tiered cake! Therefore, the fact that Louna's business is planning weddings is tedious for me to read. Also, I found the amount of background information too much without a break in between.
This sample could use another round of editing, unless I wasn't given the current version. The formatting is all off, especially in the beginning - no spacing, large words, the random enlarged letters "FE" keeps coming up, etc. There is an error on loc. 142, "fourteenyear-old girl" should be "fourteen-year-old girl". Also, some of the dialogue run into each other making it difficult to decipher who is speaking. Lastly, there is hardly any split between paragraphs.
Overall, this sample could use another round or two of editing/formatting, and I feel maybe some in the younger crowd and/or who enjoys to read about weddings might enjoy this read more, but this one isn't for me.
This sneak peek at Once and For All was well received! Great start, as all of Sarah Dessen's books are! These sample chapters had me wishing for more and impatiently awaiting the release of the book!
I was only able to read the sneak peak of Once And For All and I can't wait to finish reading the book! Already by chapter four I was captivated by Louna's story.
Louna is a teenage girl who works for her mother's business, Natalie Barrett Weddings. The story starts out at one of their weddings and moves through a couple of weddings before we meet the guy Louna is desperately trying to get over. The story-line does bounce back and forth a little and I was confused at times if it was present time or the past.
Overall I think this is a good YA read for the summer. Who doesn't love a good summer read about weddings and love gone wrong!
I downloaded this thinking it was a full book, not just a sneak peek. It is hard to give a review on only part of a book.
This was just the sneak peek but I loved it and I'm going to purchase the book and give my views on Goodreads and my blog. I've never read a book by this author so this is going to be my first one. I'm so excited!
downloaded in error. Not sent to a kindle and not reviewed.
This is the sampler, not the entire book, but it's still reminiscent of Sarah's signature style. Which is nice and familiar for us long time fans. I have the book now and I'm not done, but I can say that it has one of the best meet-cutes I've ever read.
If you're looking for Sarah's trademarks (uptight main character, unusual names, a lot of introspection, major romantic "NOW KISS" vibes), then you will find it in this book.
Intriguing excerpt. Maybe not my particular genre, but still holds something I think YA readers will appreciate.
The book is off to a good start and I enjoyed reading the sneak peek immensely.
Louna is a very likeable character, as is the "bride whisperer", her mother's business partner.
I loved how Louna dragged the missing wedding guest back to the reception and later declined to dance with him. Served him just right.
I'm also intrigued to find out what happened at the beach on that special night when Louna met her first love.
I have now bought the book and am really looking forward to read Once and for All.
If you are looking for an enjoyable and heartfelt holiday read, here is the right book to go for.
I loved this Sneak Peek so much that as soon as Once and for All released, I rushed out to get myself a copy.
Sarah Dessen is one of my absolutely favourite authors. And I was super excited to be able to read this sample from the book.
Louna is the daughter of a wedding planner, although she is quite apprehensive about love since she got her own heart broken. Until she meets Ambrose, who believes Louna is the perfect girl for him.
When I read the blurb for this book, I was very eager to read it. I love Dessen's writing style, and all of her previous books have left me wanting more. This sample was all I could have expected, and I can't wait to read the rest!
This is such a fun preview. One thing that I love about Sarah's books is the job she gives her characters and the interesting people who come into their lives because of the job. After I read this short preview, I immediately picked up another book by Sarah that I had not yet read. And I devoured it! I'm excited to read Once and for All and have ordered a copy from one of Sarah's book tour signing. I'll have it in my hands soon!
Promising start. Classic Sarah Dessen, can't wait for the full book.
After reading the sneak peek, I decided I couldn't wait for the library's copy to come in, so I purchased my own! Classic Dessen...never disappoints.
I don't always like Sarah Dessen, but I Will definitely pick up the full copy of this!
Louna's mom is a wedding planner (one of the best, actually; certainly the best in the town). She's helped out for basically ever, even though she's become rather cynical about the whole thing (not as cynical as her mom and godfather are, though). And then she meets Ambrose.
There is a lot going on that I didn't mention. Those few lines don't even begin to really summarize this novel.
What you should know: it's as good as anything Sarah Dessen has ever written and Louna may be my favorite heroine of hers.
Recommended.
I thought this was the entire book and didn't read the excerpt.
Every time I dive into a new Sarah Dessen book, I'm reminded of why I love her writing so much! Once and For All is no different, and I am so happy to be able to get to know a new book by her!
I have never read a Sarah Dessen book but this sounded absolutely wonderful, I can't wait to read the full book and explore more of this author.
I loved this book. I read it in just a couple short sittings. Dessen, as always, takes you through the full gamut of emotion, from heartbreaking to hopeful (and back again several times). This book tackles tough topics while keeping things light enough for a young adult audience. Dessen has a gift for telling a compelling story, while maintaining character development, and including great dialogue. She's certainly one of my favorites.
