I really liked the premise of this book and Tess’ talent is really unique engaging. This is a romance as much as a mystery, and I enjoyed both sides of the story, though Michael comes off a little as too good to be true. The killer is creepy and his interactions with Tess become increasingly tense and scary. I do wish there’d been a little bit more obvious connection between the killer and the victims, but the backstory did fit and made sense, plus since Tess is a random element to his story, it works. All in all, it’s a fun read (well, also creepy) and I recommend it.

4/5 stars

Novel first published in 2011 but offered again on Netgalley this year, Hide and Seek is a romantic suspense with a good touch of paranormal which keeps its promises in spite of some faults.

When Tess touches a dead corpse, she’s got visual and sensory flashes more or less precise of what happened just before the death. She also feels some things when she touches the livings, and she had a really difficult adolescence after the apparition of her gift, so she settle for working as a consultant for the police to help solving murders cases and she keeps her distance from people. I thought her evolution was well done but I liked less her TSTL moments where she almost put herself in danger to avoid putting the other in danger…
Michael in one of the medical examiners working with the police, and he’s intrigued by Tess. He offered several dates but she always refused, until a flash more realistic than the others brings them closer, and Tess realizes that when she touches his hand she feels safe. He’s got a stable and reassuring side and what’s more he’s not bossy or dominant. I liked how Michael and Tess complete each other, and how their relationship evolves fast but logically. They are cute together.

But the strong point of this novel is the plot. The idea of Tess’ gift is interesting and well used, the glimpses of the killer are chilling, and the investigation moves forward progressively and logically.

Unfortunately there are some jumps in the story, as if the author hadn’t known how to describe something and she’d preferred to move forward in time having just her characters say “this happened”. I found this to be frustrating, even if as a whole I liked this novel.

This is the first book I have read from this author and I have to say I was very impressed. It is about a woman named Tess who has the gift to touch the dead and see their last moments before death. Jake is a homicide detective whom she assists to solve murders. When Tess touches a woman who Jake thinks is the result of a serial killer, she is pulled in deeper than ever before. With the help of Dr Adams she is able to stay grounded. But will this be enough? With the killer getting closer Tess gets deeper. Will she be able to find him and save his next victims? Or will he find her and kill her too?
This book was steady paced and exciting. The characters had wonderful charisma and interaction. I got lost in the story, unable to put it down. This book is a paranormal mystery romance. It is a page turner that will keep you wondering what will happen next. This book has the great potential of becoming a series. I am definitely interested in reading more from this author.

Although this book was interesting enough to finish. I felt it lacked the suspense I look for int the mystery/thriller genre.

Riveting storyline. There is a twist I didn't see coming that we learn early in the book. Even though the stilted dialogue detracts from the story, this book is well worth the time and money to read.

Michael is a pathologist and Tess sees how people die. But this time, when she looks, a link is created between her and the killer. And it's seriously spooky. The author did a nice job with the creepy factor.

Hide and seek by Allie Harrison
Tess Fairmont has a gift if she touches a dead body she can see their last moments and if they were murdered she would see who it was.
This was a really enjoyable read with great characters. I loved how Tess and Michael were with each other. I loved the ending too. Netgalley and belle bridge books.
