This is a really good motorcycle club book. It’s book 3 in the Devil’s Keepers series. Lara Ashburn is the school teacher who calls Chaser in for a Parent-Teacher conference concerning his 16 year old daughter, Kaylee. This is trouble just waiting to happen! Lara has moved to Louisiana from California to escape the Brothers of Goliath MC which is run by her uncle. Then she gets involved with the Devil’s Keepers MC by way of Chaser. There’s a lot going on here but it’s done in a fast upbeat (motorcycle club style, of course) way. I really liked this book and now I’m off to buy more of Megan Crane’s books. I received a copy from Net galley in exchange for an honest review.
This is the first book in this series that I read and it refers to situations from the other books but it is fine to read as a standalone. I really liked Chaser and Lara – both of their attitudes made for lots of good tension and steamy scenes. I have a soft spot for single dads and Chaser, even though not perfect, did everything he could to make sure Kaylee was safe. This is a very fast read and a nice story.
Devils Own is the third book in the Devil Keepers Motorcycle Club and once again Megan Crane does not disappoint with this story. This time it's Chasers turn , an enforcer for the DKMC, he has to attend his daughters college to speak to her teacher who has left many messages for him expressing her concerns about his daughters attitude. Being a tough hard biker he does not take too kindly to this. The electricity between Chaser and teacher Lara Ashburn sizzles off the pages.
As usual a relationship with a biker is not without its problems and the fun is reading all about these two bouncing off each other (in more ways than one!)
A great story, my only niggle was that one character was introduced then never mentioned again which I found odd, unless we readers will meet him again in another book, can't say more as don't want to give anything away.
Thanks to net galley and publisher for opportunity to review this book
She's a teacher, but he taught her a few things...
I confess, reading a Megan Crane book is a guilty pleasure. I know going in that it's gonna be dirty and delicious. I know that her badass biker will be arrogant and bossy and have a filthy mouth. I know that the passion between the characters will have me drinking ice water and wiping my brow. Yes, the lust is instant and burns fast, but she still gives a good story. She makes me fall for the characters, even though they are far from perfect. She entertains me with witty banter and intrigues me with suspense. She weaves a web of mystery with the club business that always leaves me with questions and impatience to get to the next book.
Chaser is the Enforcer for the Devil's Keepers MC. He's big and muscled and tatted and intimidating to most. But not her... Lara is a teacher. She looks a prim and proper in her classroom, wearing her pencil skirt and her feminine blouse. She throws attitude and disapproval at him when he shows up for a parent/teacher conference. But he sees the real her, and throws it right back. Spontaneous combustion between them. Boom!
It only gets better from there. So, turn up the A/C, it's H-O-T! A guilty pleasure, better than chocolate. The line forms here...
Lara and Chaser meet when he gets a lot of calls about his 16-year-old daughter, Kaylee, who is a student of Lara's. Lara butts heads with Chaser and does not back down and even goes so far as to provoke him. Chaser is not used to someone not being afraid of him and is intrigued. Both of them try to fight their feelings. Lara grew up in the life and is surprised when Chaser calls her out on it right away. He has some serious club issues that demand his attention but is drawn to Lara for reasons he can't quite understand. He discovers that Lara is prim and proper on out the outside but a biker babe underneath. He finds himself coming back for more of her. Lara is trying to stay out of the life but finally understands that what happened with her uncle and his club is not necessarily what happens with all bikers and their club. She starts to see Chaser for who he is and not her preconceived notions of him.
When club issues raise their ugly heads even more, Chaser has to utilize information on Lara that has him questioning his feelings. He puts her in a position that could have been harmful but lets her know to trust him. Lara does not like being pushed into a corner and her reaction is a crap shoot at best. He knows she cannot spout off to Digger and tries his best to handle the situation. Lara begins to understand that Chaser will protect her and not leave her on her own after he goes out of his way to stop her from making a bad situation worse. Even though they both know their chemistry is explosive, I liked how both of them analyzed their feelings. They both came to their own conclusions and really didn't need much communication with words.
Chaser did try to do the right thing at the end of the book. He tries to do right by his daughter and Lara. I liked how Lara didn't back down and stood her ground. The book was a good continuation for this series and shed some new light on Chaser and what was going on behind the scenes with the DKMC. I received an ARC from NetGalley for an honest review.
Well, well. Not crazy about some of the language but that is my issue. I hate the c word. Taking that out of the equation...hot tamale read! Enjoyed the bad boy, good girl (sort of) theme. Biker and school teacher! Heck, I read it within 24 hours so I'm thinking that says a lot :) Really truly enjoyed her mouthiness (is that a word) and he was hot! I'm thinking I will read the authors other books in this series...so yup, I enjoyed the read.
Lara is a high school teacher and moves to Louisiana to be closer to her brother who's in prison. She has a problem with one of her students and calls her father. In walks in a big, bad biker. She swore she would stay away from anyone or anything having to do with MC. But he's not like her uncle, who raised her and her brother in the club.
Chaser is just as bad as he looks. He's the enforcer for the Devil's Keeper MC. He has a sixteen year old daughter and she is pure teenager. When a rival MC shows up in his town, he will protect the ones he cares for.
Lots of dirty sex. Sexy bikers. Prissy school teacher. Loved the story. Fast paced. Characters that just jump off the page. Book three in the series.
This author has a knack for creating the perfect settings- you feel like you are there seeing and feeling what the characters are. He writing is so descriptive. This book is a great addition to the series. The characters are strong and well built. There are some scenes that I felt could have been explored more and some that I feel are completely missing, especially closer to the end. Overall, it was a great read and I enjoyed it.
Requested and received an ARC from NetGalley.
So I'm torn with this one, and although I finished it in a day there were some parts I had to struggle through. It varied wildly between a 2 and 3 star read for me, and although I didn't love it, I didn't hate it either so maybe my final rating would be closer to a 2.75. I like biker books and I really like single father stories which is why despite my own mixed feelings about the previous books in this series I dived back in again (because I really wanted to know about the fractures in the club). I think the two main questions are "Can an outlaw biker be a good dad?" and "Can a woman who had a bad experience in the life make peace with it?" Most of my issues with this book can be laid at Lara's feet but I think Chaser/Ryan failed as dad material. There was no doubt he loved his girl but the fact he left her in the not so tender care of his psycho sister whenever he had to deal with club business which could last for weeks or when he just came back from weeks away and was busy spending his free time crawling into Lara's pants when he KNEW his daughter was flailing screams PARENTAL FAILURE. Then there's Lara. Born to club life, abandoned to club life and finally escapes the life all to fall directly onto Chaser's d**k within 15 minutes of a very dirty Parent / Teacher Conference. *sigh* She had valid points about the Club/brotherhood always coming first, that women who are connected to the life can really only be old ladies or club whores and there's only so many old lady positions to go around. She spends a LOT of time comparing her love of bikers to an addiction she just can't kick. Eventually after far too many inner dialogues she submits to her inner need to be Chaser's without ever seeming to come to terms with her initial problems with club life. FYI this story lasts just a week. So those who are ok with insta-love may like this book a whole lot more than I did. There were some great sparks between the two of them when she was throwing sass but it would have been nice had they drawn out the actual romance more so I could at least believe she was "old lady" material instead of having her acting far more like a club whore. We do get some answers on what is happening within the club, but it seemed a little too simple so I'm hoping there is more to it in the next book.
Loved it! This is a very sexy romance that begins when Lara, a new teacher, calls Chaser repeatedly to discuss a problem with one of her students....who is also Chaser's daughter. After the seventh phone call, Chaser shows up in Lara's classroom and gives her a hard time. However, he's surprised that Lara gives it right back to him and doesn't care that he's the MC's enforcer. Before more than a few minutes have passed, they have sex in the classroom and Chaser learns her darkest secret.
No one can tell a motorcycle club romance like this author - she lets all the grit and nastiness shine through while telling a non-traditional romance that makes you care about the characters. This is a very hot and very dirty tale that isn't for the faint of heart, but if you like a wild MC romance, you will love this book. This is a must read for fans of the genre.
ARC received for review
Lara doesn't like bikers since she grew up with first hand knowledge and watched her brother fall. Chase doesn't care, and he's inside her within 10 minutes of meeting. Lots and lots of hot sex plus drama. Throw in the previous couples and Digger/Fat Irish drama, of course, it's not all finished so we'll get another book.
Is the good sheriff going to end up with her?!?!? ooohhhhhh
But I'm hoping Roscoe is up next for his HEA.
This book was OMG! I could not and did not want to put it down. The main characters were what I would want to be in another life. She is sassy and strong and he is strong, gruff yet caring. This was stuff that dreams are made of. I definitely recommend this book. I can't wait to see what happens next in that world.
My second favorite of the series so far. Liked seeing more of the club. Great main characters. Writing seems to be improving as the story goes along. Looking forward to reading more.
Every single book in this series is better than the last. Boy I'm a big fan of her writing. Gritty, sexy, raw, and passionate Lara and Chaser' s story will take your breath away. I am not a fan of this genre but I will snatch up a book by Crane in a heartbeat. I'm dying with anticipation for the next one. This series is going on my keep shelf '
Don't blink, this book is written with a fast pace storyline so you might miss something.
Lara isn't surprised to find herself attracted to Chaser. Not at all. Chaser on the other hand, is surprised by how her bravado. It would normally tick him off, instead it turns him on. Not too much drama to be found, so that's another plus.
I skipped book 2, but was still able to keep up with the story - very standalone. I would have liked to see some of the other women from the other stories, but good story.
This book is better than the last one in this series. Ryan with the whole alpha male , do as your told attitude. Then he meets Lara the school teacher and she clashes with him. This is a must read. Can't wait for the next one.
