This is a must read for tweens, teens, parents, teachers, and politicians. Connie Goldsmith provides essential information regarding statistics, the brain's paths to addiction, and options for treatment in a format that is accessible and compelling. The format and graphics invite the reader to read from cover to cover or choose a topic of interest. She also manages to put faces on this scourge which helps to humanize the devastating numbers of opioid use and misuse in this country. I appreciated her even-handed writing, giving a rational voice to varying points of view regarding addiction and treatment. You will not regret the time you take to read Addiction and Overdose: Confronting an American Crisis. (NetGalley provided an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.)
