I did not finish this book. While the language is not what I would consider foul, it is so prevalent that it ruined the read for me. I am not sensitive to language in its appropriate genres, but I don't see cozy mysteries as fitting into that category. I don't read cozies for any level of edginess. This one isn't for me.
The first entry in a new cozy mystery series with an interesting main character and plot. Sully is an ex-cop but now works in the theatre industry, which adds to the story. Also important to the story is the appearance of Sully's ex-husband. All the elements work for an entertaining read.
A Christmas Peril was mildly entertaining but not the most exciting book I have ever read. The story kept me interested but the characters weren't very well developed. I felt too many unnecessary characters were included.
I enjoyed reading this book. The theater information was interesting and I enjoyed the characters. It kept me guessing until the end on who did it.
A Christmas Peril is a very solid cozy mystery. It is the first book in the Theater Cop Mystery series. Edwina "Sully" Sullivan is a retired cop who manages a community theater in her small Massachusetts hometown. She is asked to use her sleuthing skills when a prominent resident is murdered. Suddenly she is neck deep in family drama, the reappearance of her ex-husband, and a production of A Christmas Carol that is on the verge of imploding.
A Christmas Peril has all the element s of a good cozy mystery: an engaging heroine, great supporting characters, a hint of romance, and a mystery that needs solving. I am definitely looking forward to the Next book in the series.
This is a well-written cozy and I did enjoy it. Took me a bit to get into the story though. The heroine is confronted with a murder and while investigating she also gets confronted with her past and her ex-husband. I felt a disconnect with the heroine somehow and was not always sure about her choices. I sure did not understand why her marriage with Gus went under. It seemed so unneccessary.
All in all I enjoyed it, but did not love it. But as it is the first in a series I think I will pick up the next to see where the story will go.
I wanted to really like this book, but I found myself struggling to get pulled in.
The plot and story are interesting, I just couldn't find the one thing that peaked my interest.
It was well written and the characters seemed interesting enough, it just fell flat for me.
I voluntarily read an ARC of this book provided by the publisher and NetGalley.
