One way to explain this book is hot..hot...hot.

As a reader many lesbian romances I like a book to have sex scenes but boy does Meghan O'Brien know how to write them, more than a few times I found myself blushing. Nearly every page is oozing sexuality in some form or another, but having said that the sex was right for the story.

If I'm being honest the story is quite good but lacks depth, I feel the story could have been a big stronger

Would I recommend this book, then yes, if you're looking for that hot flush 😉

This is a sweet love story, but I was expecting a little more depth to the storyline and characters. Both the main characters had self esteem issues that kept resurfacing quite often. Claire and Alex kept reassuring each other of their love and commitment to each other, especially when Alex's ex. model girlfriend, Vanessa, suddenly reappeared in Alex's life.
Claire's best friend and Alex's sister, Sarah, also contributed to some problems the main characters faced. She felt abandoned and somewhat jealous of their relationship. Sarah was not used to Claire having such an active social (sexual) life and was no longer the number one priority in her life. At one point, Claire thought it might be better to end her relationship with Alex.
If you are interested in a steamy love story, you will enjoy this book.

Hot Hot Hot. If you are looking for a book full of erotica, this is a five star. Unfortunately, the story wasn't the strongest for me. I enjoy Meghan O'Brien's work and have all her books. I was just expecting a better story. The characters are likable but the storyline lacked originality. I found it hard to believe that Claire and Alex developed such a strong relationship after a night or two of hot sex. Don't get me wrong. I do believe women can fall really fast but this just seemed too much too fast for me. Again, if you are looking for a hot erotic read, this is for you.

I'm a big fan of Meghan O'Brien novels. I have read most of them and thoroughly enjoyed them so much so that I've read them more than once. Unfortunately this will not be a reread. If all your looking for is hotness and not much else, then this is perfect. If you're looking for hotness and a believable romance, this isn't quite it. Now don't get me wrong, this is a very well written book, but the way the characters just fell into bed after a few drinks totally disregarding their history is a little farfetched. Also, I found it hard to believe they would fall in love after one night together. The characters were nice, and Claire's insecurities were definitely believable. I enjoyed the rapport between the main and supporting characters. Overall this was a good read. Highly recommended for a summer beach day read. Enjoy!!

An honest review thanks to Netgalley. This was a great book, the chemistry between the two characters was off the charts. The sex scenes were amazingly written, and I found myself invested in the characters. The only reason this book did not receive five stars was because I wanted to know more from Alex's perspective. What she was thinking throughout the book would have made me feel as if I could get the whole picture of the characters. Overall this is a great romantic read causing you to be unable to put the book down.

First of all, a word of warning for those readers who haven't read anything by this author. This book could be categorised as erotica as much as romance. Putting it in the romance category as the publisher did could be misleading for those readers who don't know Meghan O'Brien as the excellent f/f erotic writer that she is. This book won't disappoint her fans as more than half of the book describe sex scenes: they are varied, explicit and, of course, hot. The main characters, Alex, a butch photographer, and Claire, a femme software developer, have great sexual chemistry. I would have rated this book higher if this chemistry would have transferred to the romantic aspects of the plot. The romance was lacking. Additionally, the secondary characters are portrayed with different success: while Alex's sister is multilayered and authentic, the ex girlfriend is a bit stereotyped and unrealistic.

3.5 stars rounded up to 4. Overall, an entertaining erotica read.

I rec'd an ARC from NetGalley/Bold Stroke Books in exchange for an honest review. Claire and Alex are the central characters in this erotic romance. At times the story seemed rushed but overall did not disappoint. Ms. O'Brien writes great sex scenes beautifully interwoven in the story line. 4 stars.

3.5 stars

Claire Barker has had a crush on her best friend’s sister since she hit puberty. Now an adult and running a successful tech business with her best friend, Sarah, Claire is still the geeky woman more comfortable with code than with gorgeous women.

Claire doesn’t know that the hot and handsome big sister, Alex, has been fantasizing about Claire since reading a glowing article about her in Wired Magazine. So when Alex, comes home for good after working overseas as a fashion photographer, it seems fate that the two of them will connect.

O’Brien is well known for her hot and steamy sex scenes, and this book is no different. About half the book ripples with sex. O’Brien is creative and explicit in her depictions of sex, and mostly it works really well. Speaking with authors, most will admit that sex scenes are really hard to write. Clearly O’Brien has no problem with it, and does it better than most authors. The scenes are creative, and the interplay between the characters is well written.

To be more explicit, for those of you who need it, there is some light BDSM, but mostly it is butch/femme with some use of toys. There is a lot of dirty talk in this, which seemed appropriate for the characters as written. I do hate the use of derogatory terms though, and ‘sl*t’ was used occasionally. It always feels like a bucket of cold misogyny to me, even though it is used here by a female character. There is also a power imbalance at the start, with the teacher/student dynamic at play.

The first 40% of the book would have been 4 stars for me, despite the teacher/student thing, which doesn’t work for me. However, once O’Brien starts on the basic narrative, the book is less strong. The characters started to feel brittle and less real as the rest of their lives impinge on their bedroom antics. There are issues with the sister/best friend Sarah, that aren’t strong enough to hold up to the role in the creation of tension in the book. Perhaps part of the problem for me is that the characters really felt older than their stated years in some ways, and younger in others, and this dichotomy made it hard to see them as real. They didn’t hold up well in the daylight, let me put it that way.

O’Brien is one of the best erotica writers in the f/f market. This is well worth a read, particularly if you like f/f erotica, or her many other books in the genre.

This was my first book by this author and I will definitely be on the lookout for something else. I enjoyed the character of Claire & Alex, and honestly the only reason that I didn't rate it higher was it somehow (and I hardly ever say this) it felt too long. I think primarily to the conflict that seemed almost neverending.

This is a book similar to Camp Rewind and Thirteen hours somehow. The main characters have this insecurity yet they are aparently so capable and succesful women. I can't figure out some of their actions and reactions. Anyway, the story is, in line with  most of this author's books, very original and full of sex. Colorful sex. Explicitly explained and extended sex. Pretty much the story revolves around the sexual sceenes between Claire and Alex. If you have enjoyed the latest books of this author, this one will not disapoint you.

I can say without reservation that I have found the Holy Grail of Lesbian erotica in Her Best Friend's Sister. There is not a single chapter that is devoid of some sort of naughty bits, or referral to it, which should come as no surprise since this author is well known for her prowess at writing it. What is even more noteworthy is that there's a pretty sweet love story and quite the struggle to make that love affair survive the multiple challenges thrown at them. I swear, only Meghan O'Brien is capable of pulling off a filthy dirty book with polished writing, deep character development, and a plot line to keep you interested and intrigued. Five stars doesn't do this book justice.
