Fete is a solid cozy mystery. Liv is enjoyable as ever and for once Di plays a bit more of a role though calling this the Liv and Di series, while cute, is a misnomer.
In Fete, someone dies during the fourth of July festivities that Liv coordinated and while she gets involved in finding the killer, most of the book focuses on Liv's family/living situation problems including her mother's upcoming nuptials. There were a couple of unusual elements that the author incorporates which I appreciated (like the place Liv finds a condom).
I think this book would stand alone quite easily.
I received my copy from Netgalley in exchange for my honest review.
This book was well written. This is the third book in the series and the first that I have read. This book does not need to be read in order of the series to enjoy the plot and characters. There are plenty of red herrings and it did take me a while to figure out who the murder was. I also enjoyed that the sleuth was married, not seen too often in the cozy genre.
Liv McKay owns Liv 4 Fun, a part planning business in Dixie Tennessee. She is married to Larry Joe, who is in business with his father, they own McKay trucking. Liv's best friend Dixie is a postal carrier and she is dating the sheriff. Liv’s mother becomes engaged to Earl. Earl is accused of killing a local political and competing businessman. Liv and Di investigate and are confronted by the killer. This story moved along quite nicely.
It is a fun, easy cozy crime with just the right mix of intrigue mystery, friendship, humor. The author has created a believable world in which the reader becomes part of the story.
The dynamic duo of Liv and Di are back at it again with this latest installment to the Liv and Di in Dixie Mystery series. We start off with Liv trying to enjoy the fruits of her labor after organizing the Fourth of July Celebration for Dixie. Just as soon as the fireworks start to finish up, the body of councilman Bubba Rowland is found. With her future stepfather as suspect number one, Liv is thrown into taking the investigation into her owns hands with Di's help. How else can she clear Earl's good name in time to plan her mother's wedding.
This series just keeps getting better and better with each book! Liv and Di always leave me laughing and remind me of days with my own best friend. The different relationships in this series are always relatable and real. This story starts rolling right from the beginning and doesn't stop until you reach the end. If you are looking for a fun mystery, look no further than this series!
Great Cozy Series
One Fete in the Grave is the third book in Vickie Fee’s Liv and Di in Dixie Mystery series. The storyline is well plotted and the characters well developed. The story moved along at a steady pace, with quirky characters, a sprinkling of humor, and an interesting mystery to solve with no shortage of potential suspects. The mystery had enough clues and red herrings to keep me guessing. I’m looking forward to reading more books in this series.
Liv McKay and her husband, Larry Joe, live in the small southern town of Dixie, Tennessee. Liv is the owner of a successful party planning business, Liv 4 Fun, and Larry Joe works with his father at McKay's Trucking Company. Liv has been working hard as the events coordinator for Dixie’s annual daylong Fourth of July festival, Miss Dixie Beauty Pageant, baking competition, and fireworks display. Other than a few upsets, things went well … until after the impressive fireworks display and Bubba Rowland, a town councilman, was found shot in the back in a porta potty. A lot of evidence is pointing to Liv’s mother’s fiancé, Earl Daniels, as the prime suspect. Sheriff Eulyse “Dave” Davidson and Deputy Ted Horton are on the case but Liv feels they aren’t following other leads or looking into other suspects, so she teams up with her best friend, Di Souther, to clear Earl’s name and find the killer and in the process, secrets are revealed.
I received an Advance Reader Copy of this book from NetGalley and voluntarily reviewed it.
This series is filled with humor and small town southern charm. Liv and Di (I just love the names for mystery book characters) are unlike any other amateur sleuths, yet they always get the job done and when party planner Liv plans a party you know murder and mayhem are soon to follow. This time Earl, Liv's mother's fiance, is accused of killing local politician Bubba and Liv and Di are on the case once again. This is a wonderful, fun series that gives you a taste of small town southern life and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
