Ms. Long has combined the best of my favorite genres into one astounding book and I can't get enough! Wolf shifters and military special operators, all the action and suspense, really kickass characters, a very exciting plot, what more could a girl ask for?

Captain Jax Raymond's Bravo Team WOLF is the best of the best, with good reason. It's completely made up of wolf shifters and their military skill complements their paranormal abilities. Their assignments are classified at the highest levels and very few people know their secret, but their success rate and low number of casualties have been noticed.

Enter intelligence analyst, Corporal Kaitlyn Amador. The first female Marine try out to join the team, she has orders to infiltrate the team and uncover the secrets behind the team's extraordinary success. As distasteful as her assignment is, Kat is a Marine through and through and orders are orders.

Having Kat on their team is a double threat to them. As a human, they can't let her find out their secret and as a woman, Jax and his wolf are irresistibly drawn to her and with every passing day, it gets harder to stay away from her. Even though he has orders to wash her out, he is rooting for her to succeed even though it could put the entire team at risk. But Kat doesn't know how to quit and pushes herself every step of the way, excelling at every task and earning the respect of the entire team.

The first book in a series can make or break it and this book has me eagerly anticipating the rest of the series! I enjoyed it because while Ms. Long laid the foundation for more to come, the entire story revolved around the main characters. The attention to every detail, even the most mundane, brought the story to life and the buildup of passion and suspense was worth the wait it took to finally get to the climax. Jax and Kat's struggle with duty and doing the right thing, and even the impact of a relationship between them on their careers was meshed very well with the rest of the story.

Jax was everything you expect a team and pack leader to be - dominant, fair and commanded the respect of his men, but the vulnerability he exhibited with Kat, the conflicting urges to protect her and respect her skills endeared him to me. However, Kat stole the entire show in this story. She was formidable, smart, skilled and very much a match for Jax and his wolf. As a human among shifters, she kept up well with them and was an asset to the team in many ways.

I also enjoyed the camaraderie among the wolves and the cohesion within the team. I really hope that the rest of the team each gets a book because I would love this series to continue. If you have enjoyed Paige Tyler's shifter series, then this is another you definitely will enjoy!

When Danger Bites combined two of my favorite genres - paranormal and military into a romantic story adding an extra touch to the suspenseful nature of the story and grabbing my attention from the first page.

Jax is in charge of the Bravo Team, a special military group with a huge secret - they are wolves. He's a good Captain and enjoys his work, but he also misses his pack and longs for his time to be over so he can return home to them. When Jax stops off to help a stranger on the side of the road, he never expects for his (and his wolf's) feelings to take over - but there's something about the Corporal.

Corporal Kat Amador was sent to find out the secrets behind the Bravo team, sent to find out exactly why they are so good at what they do. She's got no clue what to expect to find, but a connection with Jax was not on her list of expectations either.

When the two meet again, this time finding out their official statuses, things really begin. Jax is supposed to put Kat through the paces of training, to see her strengths and weaknesses and if she could make it as a part of Bravo Team, a very rare thing for a woman to do. Though Jax's commander would rather see Jax push Kat out, he's not willing to do that.

When Danger Bites delivers an intriging storyline, not just with the connection between Jax and Kat, but within the Bravo team itself. As the story continues it's interesting to see how the wolf world merges with the military in this group of men. This story is a perfect blend of suspense and steam, action and romance, all while introducing us to the members of a team I hope to see in future books.

This was my first book by Heather Long, and it the writing style not only sucked me in, but held me captive and craving more.

This is a author that can get me to delve into another one of her books thanks to her writing skills and characters. When I seen this one intrigued for sure with me opening it up faster than a roadrunner can say beep beep. On top of it this is a start of a series with by the time I finish with this one drooling for the next one. Marines gotta love em, my father was one with a cousin's boy now one. Jax is the head of the Bravo Team with them being mighty special. On his way back to base he encounters Kaitlyn with this opening up for so much more. Funny to is where she is headed. So curious to say the least to see where this will take us I settled in for the answers. One by one you meet the others with also the story of these two. Why she is there is told with time as you read with creepers messing up the mix. I can always count on this author to give me her best with her stamp of the story. Truth be told too I did not want it to end as soon as it did it seemed it was just getting into the good parts lol.

In When Danger Bites by Heather Long, loyalties are tested, intrigue abounds, and amidst all this, Kat and Jax struggle to figure out what they have. Corporate Kaitlyn Amador is sent to Bravo Team to investigate their startling success rate. Her cover? To see if she has what it takes to become a Force Recon Marine. But when she meets Captain Jax Raymond and then the rest of his team, her simple investigation doesn't seem so simple anymore.

Very few know the truth about Bravo Team and Captain Jax Raymond won't let his attraction to Kat distract him from his own orders. Unfortunately, his wolf has decided she is perfect for him and despite his best efforts, he finds his instincts warring with his sense of duty.

This is a slow burn romance and, as the first in a series, there is a lot of world building, including why Bravo Team exists. Ms. Long spends a lot of time detailing the training that Kat must go through as part of her certification. There are some interesting points made about the physical capabilities of women versus men, but Kat is also shown as being very capable (perhaps too capable but I don't want to nitpick there). For all that Kat is there to investigate the team, not a lot of time is actually spent on her investigation, though in fairness, some of this is explained away.

However, my biggest problem with this book is the difference in rank between Jax and Kat. Kat is an enlisted Marine with the rank of Corporal. Jax is a Captain in the Marines. He knows from the moment he meets her that she is a Corporal. His flirtation with her from the start is inappropriate - and doubly so once he discovers she is assigned to his team. The fraternization policy for the Marines is pretty clear and well, it bothered me that Jax didn't seem to care that he was violating it. Even when both Kat and Jax bring up the UCMJ, it is clear that Jax has little respect for it.

Given that this is a series, I also would have liked to have gotten to know the other members of Bravo Team better. Unfortunately, with one exception, I found too many of them interchangeable and had trouble telling them apart. Some readers may also be disappointed at the very slow build romance between Kat and Jax.

Overall, this is a great introduction to the series. In some ways, I almost wish the author had refrained from writing a romantic relationship between Jax and Kat and saved it for a later book.

Buttoned-up Corporal Kaitlyn Amador is dangerous on every level. As a human, she poses a threat to Marine Captain Jax Raymond’s special Force Recon unit. Though the team has a reputation among the other recon units, only their commanding officer knows their secret. As a woman, the danger posed is entirely different. Jax can survive the temptation for only so long before his wolf takes over and pursues what it wants.

Military intelligence specialist Corporal Kaitlyn Amador is the first woman in the Marines to be assigned to a recon team. And everyone’s watching her. Her mission? Not only prove herself worthy of her place in the group, but uncover the mystery of why Bravo Team is so successful. A mission that gets more difficult every time she’s near Jax…

Review:

This is a brand new series that combines two romance genres, shifters and military.

The wolf shifters are part of a team of Marines who are the top of what they do. So much so that others are questioning their statistics. That is when Kat is sent in to spy on them by trying to earn a spot on the team.

The Author gives us a very descriptive story that makes you feel you are in the middle of the story. I loved the interaction between Kat and Bravo team and the camaraderie is so apparent between them as they train together. Kat and Jax make a great couple, strong, smart and driven. The chemistry is evident between but they both know they cannot act on it because of fraternization and because Jax and the team are keeping secrets. So the romance is a slow build that leads to a super satisfying ending. I cannot wait to see how the series progresses.

When Danger Bites by Heather Long is Book 1 of the Bravo Team WOLF Series.

Ms. Long, you had me at word one. This is a kicking start to a brand new series that brings some of the best types of read to our fingertips...military and paranormal. Alpha males, strong and sassy females and an action-packed storyline you can really sink your teeth into. The world build-up was well-developed and the characters were defined and engaging. A must-read!

Please note that an ARC was generously provided in exchange for an honest review of which this is both honest and completely voluntary.

This was great. It's my second story that involves shifters working for the military, but because they're a big government secret, things are far more complicated. Jax and Kaitlyn played their parts out well. I loved seeing her meet and exceed the expectations in the training, striving and managing to do beyond her best among the shifters. The writing style was great as well. It took a few chapters for me to get into the pacing but once I did, I was hooked. I loved how it especially flowed in the end, loved the guys, and I just don't know how to explain what I loved except that the author really built on the angst and struggle between morality and duty, played up the romantic connection well, and told a great tale. I'd definitely read more of this series or the author.

Unfortunately, this was a DNF. Despite high hopes, I ended up DNFing this at the 20% mark. This is an early DNF for me, but it never got off the ground. Also, little things were getting to me like the fact she'd seen all their jackets but didn't know who he was. Being familiar with the military, there were things that didn't quite fit. Anyway, after putting it down twice and picking it back up, the third time I put it down it stayed that way.

Since I didn't make it very far in before DNFing, I'm not going to do a review on it.

I was very excited to start this, I mean not only is series about Marines they are SHIFTER marines, a highly specialised/classified group which helps the government and protects people.

When Corporal Kaitlyn Amador, newly assigned to the Bravo team 1 meets Captain Jax Raymond on the site of the road which ends up in him helping her and them getting dinner. She doesn't realise till later that not only will he be her commanding officer but as her assignment requires she will have to spy on him and them team. Kat used to be an analyst at the pentagon when her boss decides her to check out the BRAVO team due to their high success rate.

Kat and Jax are attracted to each other from the get go, both are stubborn and it's no surprise that they end up falling for each other. Jax and Jax's wolf wants to protect Kat from any hurt while Kat refuses to surrender and aces through the tough training set out for her.

As it's the case with first books in series, we do get to a lot of information on the effect on politics, the inner circle of the bravo team as well an outsider POV looking in on these extraordinary men.

I quite enjoyed it, Kat and Jax relationship is a slow but it's done well since the fact that he is the commanding officer and in charge of her training, their relationship can't be anything more than professional so what can they do?

I also liked the team and I can't wait get to know a bit more about them. I think the author did a great job at building the storyline, showing a bit of the dynamic and the fact that their team is kind of a pack and how dominance comes into play was intriguing.

Quibbles:
At some bits the story dragged a bit and then near the end it was rushed through without much importance being placed on what exactly does it mean to turn and mate (and the whole Kat being there to spy on the team) because in this book apart from when Jax's wolf is actively part of Jax's monologue, their relationship is very contemporary human than a mixture of supernatural I don't even know if that makes any sense. I think if we had a gotten a bit more about the shifter's of that world it would have bought out a more pnr element.
Overall, it's a good start to the series and I'm looking forward to what's going to come next!

A great beginning to an action packed series

Special Forces Recon Captain Jax Raymond finds himself in a terrible dilemma. The sexy woman he helps with her car trouble turns out the be Corporal Kaitlyn Amador. She has been sent to the base to try to make the infamous Bravo Team. It would just figure that WHEN DANGER BITES a human woman would be involved. Because the one thing that no one knows about the team ... they are all wolf shifters.

As an intelligence specialist, Kat, has been ordered to infiltrate the Bravo Team and find out their secret ... simple ... not so simple. She can handle the very strenuous activities as she works with the team and proves herself. The problem is that Jax is a distraction that she had not expected and the more time with him the less she thinks of her mission and the more she thinks about him. Unfortunately, the truth does often come in and bite you on the backside when you least expect it.

WHEN DANGER BITES will hold you glued to the pages. Jax is an officer and a gentleman and when ordered to wash Kat out he's not really liking it as his “wolf” has already fallen for the woman, but having her with his team of shifters would compromise that team. Kat is a tough woman, who is intelligent and confident and when the truth comes out she does what she feels she has to do. (You will have to read the book to find out what that is and why.) I am a sucker for the camaraderie of groups, military or civilian, who have each others backs and this book with Bravo Team is no exception. They were there with support, anger, and even humor when needed and more than willing to hold Jax back when they thought he was going to screw something up. All in all WHEN DANGER BITES is a really satisfactory beginning to a series that promises a number of good reads as there are many wolves who need to find mates.

I did have one issue with this book, though it really is not a make or break it, but, he is an officer and she is not ... there is a fairly strong non-fraternization rule in the military so unless she was secretly an officer pretending to not be then there would be major trouble. Other than that the world building, dialogue, secondary characters including, of course, the Bravo Team members and daily activities kept me reading ... and wanting more.

If the title doesn’t grab you, the cover pic will! When Danger Bites is the start of a new series – I hope! – and this one is about Bravo Team Wolf. Oorah, these “boys” are hawt! This first story is about Corporal Kaitlyn Amador, a Marine to the “corps” and Captain Jax Raymond, a wolf shifter and leader for Bravo Team. Kat, as she is called, is a human who does not know that shifters exist. All of Bravo Team member are shifters. Yup, chaos ensues!

Simplified overview: The Team is an elite special Force Recon unit; they do the dirtiest and hardest jobs the military has. Their shifting abilities are known to very few. Enter Kat. She is sent from her Intelligence boss to infiltrate the unit and to find out why they are so successful. Jax, meanwhile, is tasked by HIS boss to make sure Kaitlyn “flunks” out of joining the Team. There are only a couple of teeny problems: 1. Kat is more than capable (and amazing) in her abilities to make the team, short of having super-shifter strength, agility, etc. 2. And major, no pun intended, sparks fly when Jax and Kat are together.

There is a ton of “stuff” going on in this story, where paths twist and turn and have much action. Great read, intense in the story and the (hawt and smexy) relationship between Kat and Jax…AND it gives us the background for what I hope will be more stories about everyone on the Team. I’m hooked! Loved the story and can’t wait for the next one. {That’s a hint, Ms. Long!] I received an advance copy from NetGalley in exchange for a fair review.

Another great new military/PNR series to fall in love with!

Jax just oozes Alpha and he is just Marine to the core, even though it wasn't really his choice to sign up. Kat is buttoned up so tight, she may just explode! Daughter of a Marine, she was earmarked for intelligence, but she was determined to get to the front line and kept up to date on all her fitness requirements. Now is her chance to get to the front line when she is "asked" to try out for Bravo team.

But with a hidden agenda from her superior to adhere to, Kat is put in the position of spying on the very team she wants to join! But with their track record Bravo are just TOO GOOD and everyone wants to know their secrets!

Jax meanwhile has been given his own plan to have Kat wash out to keep Bravo's secrets intact. Pity his wolf is claiming Kat as his mate and Jax the man can't help but respect the work and strength displayed by Kat!

Loves this. There was a real slow build to the sexy times, which really fit in with the different ranks taboo and trainer/trainee relationship that Jax and Kat face. I loves her repartee with the rest of the team and she had them eating out of her hand. It was heavy on the descriptions of the tests and training that Kat has done and is undertaking so that bogged it down a wee bit. Other than that it was a strongly crafted story with really interesting characters!

Cannot wait to see what happens next!

If When Danger Bites is any indication, it looks like the Bravo Team WOLF series is going to be an intriguing, sexy adventure. Yet the thing that some readers don’t take into consideration (or even think of at all) is that this story is the first in the series. It’s a slow burn type of romance with definite bits of mystery and the paranormal involved. There has to be world building in this type of series. There simply has to be. Every author brings their own spin on Shifter lore, which is great for those of us who are totally addicted to this sub-genre… like me. So I wasn’t the least bit surprised that there are a lot of details, relationships established and introductions of key players of this team. So, I said all of that to ask you to be a bit patient with When Danger Bites. There is an intense, interesting story with sexual tensions, mistrust and trust building decisions being made in this opening story. My imagination was captured by the premise of this series, and I believe yours will as well… if you allow it time to.do so.

When one recon unit has a higher than usual missions success rate eventually someone is going to notice. It could be the highly skilled men on that team who work like a well oiled machine, it could be dumb luck or it could be that these men have a certain… additional talent for this type of work. No matter the reason, someone higher up is asking questions about Jax’s team – and they’re willing to discover their secrets with secrets of their own, an undercover Marine looking for a spot on that particular team. The fact that she’s a woman is both commendable and unusual, now only time and politics will tell how successful she will be on either mission.

I enjoyed When Danger Bites very much. Yes, there is building on many levels, but I personally do not mind allowing a world to be built so that I can dive right into it again in the next book. Some readers do mind, for those I really wish they would be patient and enjoy the beginning of what looks to be a very good, deeply intriguing series. I am looking forward to hearing the stories of the other members of the team, and seeing how Kat and Jax’s relationship moves onward.

I would recommend When Danger Bites to any reader who enjoys Military Romance, Paranormal Romance or Shifter Romance – add in a touch of Mystery and Suspense then you have an interesting world that many will want to spend more time in through the rest of the series. Danger, secrets, sexual tensions, friendship, betrayal and acceptance. These are all aspects of life that you will find in this first story of the Bravo Team WOLF series. I believe you’d enjoy it, and I’m definitely looking forward to the next book.

*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*

Captain Jasper "Jax" Raymond is the alpha in his Bravo Team. The whole team are wolves from separate packs around the country. There are a limited few in government that know about them.
They must remain a heavily guarded secret.
Corporal Kaitlyn Amador is a intelligence specialist. She has been sent to train with Bravo Team to find out how they can possibly be as good as they are. There must be something going on.
Our heroine is a true Marine and determined not to wash out of the training. Our hero wants to protect everyone under his command, even the stubborn woman who won't let him.
A fascinating paranormal /military romance that pushes all it's characters to the extreme. It's the beginning of a series that I definitely want to read more of.
I loved it.

when danger bites ( Bravo Team WOLF #1)

Back cover ......

Not only prove herself worthy of her place in the group, but uncover the mystery of why Bravo Team is so successful. A mission that gets more difficult every time she’s near Jax…

My review ......

Jax's is a wolf, in a humans world, that doesn't worry him. He was sent to the human world to fight in an elite wolf pack, that didn't worry him. He lead a band of wolves from different packs (who didn't always get along), that didn't worry him. He had a young wolf nipping at his heels, always pushing for command, that didn't give him sleepless nights. What worries him ...... Kat (Kaitlyn) Amador, sassy, smart, level headed and totally his (well that's what his inner wolf says) his commander wants her off the team, he doesn't want a woman comprising their clean record. And he knows that Bravo team is a wolf only team. So Jax is told to push her until she quits.

Kat Amador has a lot to prove. She comes from a military family, and she wants to prove to herself that she can cut it in an elite team, but Kat is hiding a mission of her own. Her superior officer wants to know why and how Bravo Team is so successful, so he sends Kat in to investigate.
Only problem is, the longer she stays with the team, and bonds with them, the harder it is to spy on them, and when Kat finally uncovers the truth, what will she do with the evidence?

The action was non stop, we go through basic training with Kat, (and after reading it, I was exhausted 😛) it's very descriptive, I felt I was there training with her. The missions that Bravo Team are sent on, were well written, it all flowed very smoothly.

All the secondary characters were great, and I'm hoping they will all get stories 😉

That was an awesome read. Totally loved it from start to finish. Just the right amount of chemistry (nothing worse than needless naughties) from start to finish an enjoyable read.

This is the first of a series. I am really torn because on one hand, the characters are wonderful. On the other hand, there are some flaws that interfered with my enjoyment of the story.

First the good: Kat and Jax are great characters. I especially loved Kat for being an independent, intelligent characters who was a tough woman.

But the flaw lies in the world building. I never felt like the author researched and developed the world where the characters resided, but instead borrowed bits from other authors' worlds. I think if the author can get those specifics nailed down, the next book will be spectacular.

2.5*

This has proved to be a difficult book to read and a very difficult book to review.

I'm always on the lookout for a good shifter book and I liked the blurb on this one and I really liked the start of this book.

Jax Raymond is a shifter and a Marine Captain and his Bravo Team has an amazing record. They've been sent into some of the most difficult situations and yet they've never lost a man, never even needed medical attention and people are suspicious. The fact that they are a classified shifter unit made up of shifters from eight of the nine packs currently scattered across the United States is known by only a very select few.

Corporal Kaitlyn Amador is a military intelligence specialist and the first woman in the Marines to be assigned to a recon team. A lot of people are watching to see if she progresses but getting into Bravo Team is not the only reason she's there she also has to find out why they're so successful and exactly what their secret is but just the fact that she's there could compromise the whole team.

Jax and Kaitlyn meet on route to the base and the attraction is instant. Jax's wolf is way more interested than it should be in a human.

Kaitlyn is a threat to the secrecy of the unit and Jax is given orders to wash her but she's good, very good and both he and his wolf want her and it proves to be a real mess.

So the book starts well and when I started reading I was hooked, I liked the idea and the characters but an unbelievable 4/5 weeks later and more attempts than I can count I'm forcing myself to finish it.
Normally this would be a DNF for me but since this is a book I requested this from NetGalley I always intended to finish and review it but I never imagined it would take this long.

The problem?

It's boring, incredibly mind numbingly boring.
Although it started well and had so much potential but it gets lost in all the exercise and training. It's repetitive and tedious and I really struggled every time I tried to read it.
While it took me 4 weeks to get through the middle section the ending, like the beginning was much better.

My rating.
I suppose I rate on the low side anyway but even so 2* may seem mean (I really wanted to give 3*) but it's taken me over a month of trying to finish this book, a month!
That's unheard of for me and so it's difficult to give more.
Reading is supposed to be a pleasure but this turned out to be a chore and so while I can see the potential for future books and I'd like to know what's happening with Kyle and Tabitha plus the rest of Bravo Team I'm out.

I'm always in the mood for a great paranormal romance , so I was excited to read When danger bites. I really liked Jax and Kaitlyn. Both were strong willed well written characters and the storyline center on two equally stubborn as well as determined leads piqued my interest. I liked how Kaitlyn took every challenge head on because she was no ones wilting 🥀 flower. My only issue was how the story seemed to drag on a little. Jax and Kaitlyn danced around each for a little longer than I would have liked. Overall It was a good read with great detailed descriptions that made the story that much more enjoyable and I give it 3.5 stars.

I reached out for this story because I love shifter romances, and I’ve read so many It is difficult to find one interesting enough to draw my attention. Thankfully, this combination of tough Marines and alpha shifters is a gold mine!
All I can say is be patient, since this story is a bit of a slow burn, but believe me, it’s worth it. I am in a middle of a Team Bravo hangover, and I cannot wait for the next book in the series.

I've read a few series about werewolf or shifter Black Ops groups, but Bravo Team Wolf is the first one I've seen to feature active military. The political and chain of command elements gives When Danger Bites a slightly different feel from anything else I've read.

For most of the story, the obstacles to Kat and Jax's relationship are orders and regulations. When they do encounter an actual villain it wraps up quickly, and I felt like a little too neatly. But I found the intense romance story compelling all by itself. It kept me riveted! However, I felt like the ending was a bit cheesy and cute given the intensity of the rest of the story.

I enjoyed When Danger Bites even more than I thought I would (though I still think the title is silly.) I'm looking forward to more stories about Bravo Team, especially Silver who's my favorite so far. And without being too spoilery, we're going to need an update on Kat and Jax in the next book.
