What a cool concept. A bad*ss special military unit with a secret. The secret has been easy to keep quiet for many years, until someone is put right in the middle of their training, searching for that very secret.

Kat is a Pentagon intelligence officer who has been asked to infiltrate the Marine's Special Force unit, Bravo Team. Why? Because the team is amazing. They've never lost a casualty and among other things, they've never come back from a mission injured. But there's a catch to this assignment. She's always wanted to be a true Marine. One that's out in the field, not behind a desk. So this is her opportunity to prove that she's capable of being out there with the best of the best, and she's determined to earn her place. But it's not that easy when her Captain is the very man who swept her off her feet before she even made it on base. And keeping the relationship professional while earning her place is becoming harder by the minute.

Jax is the Captain of the Marine's Bravo Team. Reporting back to base, he "rescues" Kat from a blown out tire just outside of base. There is reciprocated attraction, but the brakes are quickly locked in place when Jax is given an order he immediately hates. Being Kat's Captain, protecting the team's secret and following orders become pretty sticky. It doesn't help that his own team starts to like Kat as much as he does. But orders are orders, right?

Although this is a PNR, most of the paranormal is in bits and pieces. Not that it's a bad thing, but since the paranormal is the secret, it's not as predominate as other reads. That being said, I really enjoyed the military aspect of the story and how it was incorporated. I have mixed feelings about the ending. But I also know that this is a series, so I'll have to wait to see if I get what I'm looking for. All in all, this was pretty good. Even though "we" know the secrets as readers, we're still pulled in to the trainings, missions and drama.

This book I reviewed has me a little confused on my feelings. On one hand the story itself is really quite good. I love the plot and the great characters. Jax is super hot and the description of him is just yummy. Intense and oozing control, most of the time. And it is those breaks in control that make this man so steamy.

On the other hand, the author spends an excessive amount of time walking us through every single work out and event that Kat had to work through to hopefully get accepted to the team. While I appreciate and feel the bonding between the teammates, the story became a waiting game to see if anything would ever consummate with Jax.

Throughout the whole book you get mainly the build up and deep attraction but not so much on the physical act of their connection. That doesn't mean to say this isn't a sexy read, but the author dragged it all the way to the end. And for reader looking for the hot engagement, that became a bit frustrating.

Overall, the book is extremely well written but there is a lot of repetition in the paranormal versus human aspect. This book is also extremely detailed in the military action aspect so you really need to want to experience that on a day by day basis. Plus the deception issue Kat is bringing to the table is one you know will backfire on the entire potential relationship.

I'm still a little confused on my feelings about this book. I guess you need to decide for yourself.

Three star reviews are my least favorites. I can totally support my decision for a one or two star if the writing was bad or I plotholes were in the book or else, but a three star is for me a book that was not badly written, but it didn’t capture my attention at all.
Unfortunately it was like this with this book. The story dragged on and on and I had the impression weeks passed while only a few days went by. It was a boring and absolutely not exciting read. It was clear where the story would end in the beginning and I had to force myself to finish the book all the while I found myself skipping over descriptions of the exercises they did and how Kat was THE woman.
That was another thing. Even though the writing style was good and there were no major plotholes or other mistakes, I couldn’t picture the characters in my head at all. The supposed relationship and pull the characters were supposed to feel for each other was not believable. I had no feelings other than annoyance over the stupidity of the characters.
The major holdup for Kat for not pursuing her relationship with Jax was the no fraternizing policy of the marines. Jax choose to ignore that and actively endangered her career (not even the final solution would change that, classified branch or not). I don’t like it if the hero ignores the wishes of the heroine like that. It’s just not cool.
All in all the book sounded good in the beginning and the blurb, but the actual plot and story concept disappointed me.
2.5 stars

This is a great start to a new series by Heather Long! Kaitlyn Amador has been sent to see why Bravo Team is so successful by her commander. But she is supposed to do it while making it look like she is trying to earn a spot on the team-which she really wants! Jax Raymond is the commander of Bravo Team. He has his own orders and his own secrets. I enjoyed both of them! They both are funny and I liked how the team acted with her. I especially loved how she did so well even with her being human! There was a lot of history of the Bravo Team given, and explanations for why they are even there. It is definitely a book that starts the series off and makes it so the next books in the series will make sense. I really liked not just the main characters but the other characters too. They are all intertwined and definitely make up their own "pack". I was pulled in from the first and it kept my interest all the way until the end. I can't wait to read the next book in this series!

Stunning! This is a great book that held my attention from beginning to end and had me signing up to follow this author. She has the best of both worlds in paranormal and military romance.

When Kat is assigned to Bravo team to find their secret she has no idea what, if anything, she will find. But just the chance to go through force recon training has her excited. When she has a flat and a handsome guy on a bike stops to help her she doesn't want his help, after all, she isn't some helpless female. When he won't give up and talks her into a compromise she is glad she gave in a bit.

When Jax is on the way back to base from leave and runs into Kat having trouble with a flat his manners won't let him just keep driving. When she gives him a hard time he cannot resist the urge to help even more. So he talks her into a compromise. Little do either of them know they are about to meet in an official capacity.

A woman in special ops is not common, a woman on Bravo Team has never happened. But when the Colonel orders Jax to wash her out it doesn't sit well with him. It's his job to put her through her paces and he will very much enjoy doing that. What he doesn't enjoy is when she meets all the other guys on Bravo and how they react.

Loved this book.

I received this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I selected this book because I enjoy military romance. Right afterwards, I realized it has a paranormal element and almost didn't read it. But, I was pleasantly surprised how much I enjoyed it. There was a lot more military than wolf. The existence of wolf-shifters in the world wasn't overly described (where they come from, how Jax will change Kat into a wolf, ect) It made it easy to read wondering how Jax and Kat's conflicting goals would come to a head. I also appreciated how long Kat and Jax waited to have sex since they both knew it would complicate their careers and personal lives. Too often, characters give lip service to reservations, but don't restrain themselves.

When Danger Bites is a well-written paranormal. Enjoyed the romance.

I'm going to start out by saying, the writing was good. I had no trouble following the story line and was actually intrigued by Jax and Kat's relationship. Jax is described as the quintessential, marine, tough, rugged, and knows how to take and give orders. I liked how Kat was described as a tough as nails marine herself, so often the female protagonists are short-sighted in that they are made meek. Usually there is one hunky marine and one damsel in distress, not Kat. That being said if you don't really understand ranking and marine references and lingo in the beginning it takes a second to get used it. Like for me i have no idea how ranks work but was about to follow along easy enough.

What was so-so about this book for me was that Jax and Kat's relationship started strong but I felt it fell flat somewhere along the lines. Since she is coming into a secret marine team of shifters she is naturally suspicious and has her own agenda given to her. There were definite themes of dominance and mating with a bit of "what my wolf wants" that so many wolf-shifter books have. I just felt the story dragged a bit because I put the book down several times to came back and try to finish it. I felt there could have been more development with their relationship but I understand you have to introduce characters, and present a compelling back story for their romance too. It just wasn't enough to keep me from not putting the book down.

In the end this was a well written first book in the series, maybe the others moving on will be more intriguing because the characters and themes have been introduced.

Recommendation: If you like marines, if you like wolf-shifters, this is for you. I'd thought I'd give it a try but I guess both of those things combined were just not as intriguing to me as I originally thought.

When Danger Bites shows you that even the shadowy part of the government want a piece of the action when they learn the existence of shifters. to keep their pack safe from annihilation a band of wolves must join the services.
Captain Jax Raymond’s special Force Recon unit, is known as one of the best. Now the MIS wants to know their secrets. So, they send in MIS Corporal Kaitlyn “Kat” Amador to infiltrate the Force Recon unit to uncover the mystery of why Bravo Team is so successful.
Romance took a back seat in the 1st title in Bravo Team Wolf. All focus was on building the back story of this elite band of men. Which was totally okay, because without a backstory this series will never take off. Not to say that there wasn’t chemistry between Jax and Kaitlyn. That is what made this storyline work because normally I would complain that there wasn’t enough romance and that is what this genre is about…. Right! But the slow building of their growing attraction made it seemed somehow more real than having them confess their love from the beginning.
Initially, it was Jax training Kat to become part of the TEAM, but it really turns out it was Kat teaching Jax that not all women need a rough bunch of men to protect them.
All in all, I liked When Danger and looking forward to seeing where this series is heading.
I would recommend this book to readers whose into shifter, and military romance.

**I received a copy of When Danger Bites from Entangled Publishing and Net Galley in exchange for a voluntary and honest review**

When Danger Bites by Heather Long is part of the author's new Bravo Team WOLF series. I've read some of the author's previous shifter series a few years ago and I have to say I pleasantly surprised by how good this book was. I especially love how Kaitlyn is written as a kick arse Marine wanting to be accepted by the team of wolves.

Being a Marine is part of Kaitlyn Amador's life as she's a daughter of her father who is a career officer. But when her current boss asks her to spy on Brave Team Wolf, she reluctantly agrees because she knows if she doesn't he'll find a way to end her career quickly in the Marines. When the team goes on a hostage rescue she'll be shocked when she finds out why the team is always successful at what they do best; hostage rescue and retrieval. But will she keep their secret or tell the CIA and her boss?

Captain Jax Raymond's team is very good at what they do and the top brass is now wanting to find out how they are always so successful. But when his CO tells him that he must wash Kaitlyn out of the team who immediately accept Kat as one of their own even though she's human. Will he follow orders or will he give into the attraction that they both feel when Kat is injured on the final test? When yet another group of hostages are taken by the enemy so quickly after their previous rescue, he knows that something is wrong. When he tell Kat the team's secret and reveal why they are so good? He knows that she can pass the test but will she make the decision to stay or go before his team does?

The story is a very good one and even though I haven't read very many paranormal/shifter books recently I'd give the book 4.9 stars and look forward to the next book.

When Danger Bites, is my first book by author Heather Long. And I will admit that I originally requested it from NetGalley because of the Marine storyline- which is near and dear to my heart. But also I love a good shapeshifter book!

Honestly this book grabbed me from the first page and I didn't want to put it down until it was over. I haven't done that with a book in awhile!
I can't wait to read more in the series and from this author.

I went into this not quite knowing what to expect despite having some experience reading different authors’ takes on the way they take on shapeshifters. Heather Long’s story however, is a nuanced one, pitting a strong, kickass intelligence officer holding her own in a secret pack of marine wolf-shapeshifters. But because Bravo wolf team is classified—their existence is a result of secret government pacts with several wolf alphas—, Kat Amador’s secret mission will compromise them all and put everything into peril.

Long’s own brand of wolf-shapeshifter mythology is part-Nalini Singh and part-Paige Tyler, a good mixture that subscribes to the wolf pack canon at least, with a lot of attention paid to dominance and submission which is admittedly part of this sub-genre of the paranormal universe which I don’t exactly like but something that seems necessary. It’s very well-written though, with dialogue that very clearly puts across the conflicts on varying levels: military command vs. pack order, a sole human woman needing to find her own footing amongst testosterone laden shapeshifters who are also soldiers and how Jax tries to reconcile his personal desires with how he was meant to make Kat wash out.

Overall though, ‘When Danger bites' is a good read but it’s also one that feels like an ‘establishing’ book, as Long sets up the context, the history and the Marine wolf team out for us, while juggling a pairing that spent most of their time training and trying to ignore the attraction that’s between them. While I liked Jax/Kat’s chemistry as well as the camaraderie between the other soldiers, I couldn’t exactly get into the pairing seeing as so much of the focus lay with Kat trying to keep up with the team while trying to rein in her own growing suspicions about their success.

When it all finally comes out, the conflict and resolution are somewhat blurred lines, with mentions of mating, an unknown, faceless alpha and ‘turning’ a human—all of which felt like teases that were never really elaborated upon, let alone seen materialised. Instead, the ending bit, which was really Kat’s triumph in yet another survival course, felt like a let-down and I couldn’t really tell what would happen with Jax and Kat past their agreement to go ‘steady’. These loose threads curtailed my enjoyment somewhat of what could have been a very solid read, seeing as I would have liked to have seen a greater development of Jax/Kat’s relationship. But it’s something to hope for in the next few books in the series as the other wolves finally settle into their skin.

Received an advance reader copy in exchange for a fair review

I loved this book! Yet another series to suck me in by Heather Long! Wolves and Marines! Oorah! Although a standalone, we meet a group of alpha males that I cannot wait to see meet their mates. The camaraderie between the team made me laugh and the fact that although from different packs, the wolves all work together, and the nuances therein, made for good reading.

Jax was strong, hardheaded, but a good male. He was a good match for Kat, who I loved because she was strong, but still feminine. The quandaries they both faced separately were very well written, I could feel their confusion and distress and kept me wondering how they'd resolve them. And I was pleased with how they did.

Only problem is that I now have to wait to hang out with Bravo team again. Looking forward to reading about Kurt and his Tabitha, Silver, Cage and the rest of them. Thanks Heather for the start of another great series!

What happens when you make a hunky team of werewolves into Marines? Hotness overload! When Danger Bites is military paranormal romantic suspense at its finest. I look forward to seeing where this series takes us. In this story we meet Bravo Team WOLF who come under suspicion because they seem to be too good at their missions. A classified unit Bravo Team WOLF is made up of werewolves from various packs and they are very good at what they do. Military intelligence specialist Corporal Kaitlyn Amador is human and assigned as the first woman in the Marines to be assigned to a recon team to Bravo Team WOLF. She has also been assigned to find out the secret to their success. I LOVE Kat. She is squared away and a total Marine. She is determined to succeed. Can she help it if Marine Captain Jax Raymond is the hottest thing she has ever seen? The attraction between them is incendiary. The fact that he is her Captain and she a corporal should put the kybosh on them acting upon their attraction. The fact that they each have secrets should put the kybosh on them acting upon their attraction. But oh when they finally give in it is explosive and very well may cost them both their careers. This book grabbed me from the first page until the last and I didn’t want to go.
I received an advanced copy of this book and chose to review it. I also bought a copy.
