Holy balls batman! I didn't see that coming! The end to this story blew my ever lovin mind! I thought I knew for sure who the antagonist was in this story, but low and behold, I didn't know who he truly was, and when I found out... I was speechless and shocked and dismayed!
This story has a little slower than most of Kendra's books but the slow build eventually lit like a fire and took off! I had some bad feelings about a few characters that I loved and I was super nervous for things to come about, but thank goodness they didn't play out the way I thought they would.
There are some open plot lines that lead us into the next book, and I can't wait to see where Mercy's relationship with her family goes. I want those fences mended and bridges to be built again, but at the same time I don't trust some of them as far as I can throw them. In fact, I down right despise Mercy's father.
Truman is the perfect match for Mercy, he just knows when to push her and when to hold back, they are so wonderful together! I can't wait to see where the rest of this series leads!
I have read a few books by this author but I just haven't really fallen in love with anything she has written. I'm keeping an open mind on her novels to come because they sound interesting but we'll see how they turn out.
Can I give more than 5*s?!? No, well darn. I'm a huge fan of Kendra's books and this new series is an absolute winner. I loved meeting Mercy in book one, now she's like that badarsed friend we all wish we had.
She is still dealing with being back home, trying to get through to her family and be accepted. Though it's a split. One brother was murdered, so they're all dealing with that and the accepting of Mercy is not going over as it should. She's till an outsider - a trader and it's not something that will happen over night.
Truman though is right there for her. The sheriff and the hard nosed FBI agent make the best pair of gun totin', badge wearin' badarses there is.
I love how when the fire hits the fan, they all jump in and try to figure out what's happening. Who's doing it and why. Is it just kids? Is it someone doing it for a reason? So many unanswered questions rolled around them. When the dominos start to fall into place, and the fires get hotter it's going to be up to Mercy and Truman to make sure they get out alive, and in one piece.
Did not review. This one didn't work for us and we only post if we can rate over 3 Stars.
I loved this book . Wonderful mystery and characters you could not help but like. Every book she has written has been wonderful. Looking forward to her next release
Thank you NetGalley for the copy of A Merciful Truth by Kendra Elliot that I read and reviewed.
This book, the second in the Mercy Kilpatrick series, picks right up were the first one left off with a new case for Mercy and Truman to solve together. Once again her family are right in the middle if the case and she has to work hard to find an arsonist while uncovering more family secrets.
This book was very good with a number of twist that the reader won't see until the end. I really enjoy the chemistry between Mercy and Truman. I love them as a couple and when they work together. This book was an excellent second part of this series.
I am giving A Merciful Truth four out of five stars.
I love this series. This series is my first by Kendra Elliot and I have been impressed. There creativeness in her writing, attention to detail and the emotion of the storyline is perfect. I get emotionally invested in this sorry and in the life is Mercy Kilpatrick. What a life she has led and what she is going through with her family. That combined with the things thing on in Eagle's Nest and Bend, Oregon makes for an exciting, can't wait to turn the page read.
Excellent story from beginning to end! I absolutely love this series! Highly recommend for the great characters, drama, action and suspense!
I can't say this enough - I LOVE Kendra!!!
I do not believe in revealing the entire plot, spoilers, or revealing character traits. With that said, this is the second book in the Mercy Kilpatrick series.
I was drawn in from the first page. There are twists, turns, and even a surprise or two. Mercy and Truman are a great team even if Mercy isn't ready to acknowledge it yet. The secondary characters really help suck you in. Some you will automatically love (Rose) and some NOT so much, but I will let you decide who they are.
If you are looking for some really hot sex scenes, than this book is not for you. If you want just the right amount of intrigue, some violence, a little murder and mayhem, family with a few issues, and a couple of slap you in the face surprises than you NEED to read this book - actually you need to read the entire series.
I am looking forward to book #3! Thanks for the great adventure Kendra!
I was extremely disappointed with this installment! When I left the first book in the series, I was conflicted and on the fence about continuing, so when I found this on Net Galley, I was a bit excited and hesitant at the same time. I knew I enjoyed the author's other works, but for some reason this series just wasn't resonating with me.
In this installment, Mercy isn't as present as she was in the first book. That's not to say that we don't see development on her character, because we get what seems to be an information dump on her background, and we do get to see her trying to re-establish relationships with her family. Truman takes center stage in the investigation, but it really doesn't seem like there is that much of an investigation done, nor was there actually much to grow the relationship between Truman and Mercy to the point of declarations of love.
Not much detail is given about the lifestyle of Doomsday Preppers in this story, and it felt that they were almost mocked in this plot. Even the Anti-Government theme that was taking center stage felt very glossed over. The ending was abrupt and slightly confusing, but overall the book really dragged for me. This installment has put me even more on the fence about the series!
All things considered, it was a suspenseful read, but greatly bogged down in a weak plot, uninteresting theme, and broad leaps in characterization. I'm not sure I would recommend this to others.

After reading A Merciful Death, I didn't know how I'd wait for this book. I had really hoped the slow simmer romance between Mercy and Truman would heat up to a boil in this book, but if you are looking for a scorched page romance, you'll need to read another book. Mercy and Truman are hooked up, but the author is keeping the juicy details private. What you get is a suspense that grabs you from the first page and doesn't let you go till the end.
Truman is called to the scene of an arson fore where he is joins two Deschutes County Sheriff deputies already on the scene. The old barn is a total loss, but they decide to walk the perimeter. Truman goes right and the deputies go left and end up being shot and killed. Fate. Truman is pretty shook up. This is the worst in a series of small arson fires that have plagued Eagle's Nest, OR.
Mercy is an FBI agent who grew up in a survivalist family outside of Eagle's Nest and has returned after leaving home at 18. She and Truman have started a relationship, but since Mercy now has custody of her 17 year old niece, Kaylie, she has limited time to see him. Mercy is trying to reestablish a relationship with her family, but that is going to take time.
This area is rife with survivalists, preppers and militia. Kaylie's boyfriend, Cade, is working for a local rancher with grand plans and a lot of angry men surrounding him, one of whom is Mercy's oldest brother, Owen. After another murder, Mercy pays a visit to the ranch and is met with outright hospitality, which Cade finds odd as she is only doing her job. He also overhears some disturbing information on top of discovering a cache of dynamite, but this job pays really well so he keeps his info to himself. Keeping yourself to yourself, minding your own business and a visceral dislike of law enforcement doesn't help Mercy and Truman as the seek to solve the murders.
Kendra Eliot’s new “Mercy Kilptrick” series started off with “A Merciful Death” as Mercy Kilpatrick returns to her little rural town of Eagle’s Nest, Oregon, where secrets are buried deep, and the residents are perpetual preppers, waiting for a disaster to strike…. living off the grid and off of the land.
As she tries to settle into the town, bonds with the Police Chief Truman Daly, and tries to mend fences with her family, a series of fires and killing of law officials rocks the little town and Truman and Mercy get right into the middle of it. And when the threat comes close to home and with rumors of anti-government militia residing in Eagle’s Nest, all bets are off and Mercy and Truman will unearth every single hidden secret to bring the killer to justice.
“A Merciful Truth” is another brilliant fiction as Kendra concentrates on developing the growing relationship between Truman and Mercy, as the townsfolk get used to Mercy’s presence in the town, but never deviating from the plot of the story. With the suspense gracing each page, with loyalty and courage being tested as the killer accelerates, I never even imagined or anticipated the twist truth that comes at the end!
With great attention to the dynamics of the Kilpatrick family, Kendra Elliot weaves another intense story of family loyalties, loss and pain, hope and faith and the nuances of a small rural town’s lifestyle and a great insight into the mentality of preppers and survivalists. And I’ve always loved her prowess of developing a personal relationship, layer by layer, book by book…my favorite attribute of hers.
A merciful Truth is the 2nd book in the Mercy Kilpatrick Series and while it could be read as a stand alone their is a lot of background about Mercy's relationship with her family and her initial meeting and getting involved with Truman (the Police Chief) which happens in the first book.
In the second book Mercy is settling in as an FBI agent for a much smaller community, trying to reestablish relationships with her family and raising her deceased brother's teenage daughter. She's also in a romantic relationship with Truman the community's police chief. This book begins with a series of fires that Truman is investigating. When he and two other officers respond to the 4th fire, shots are fired and the two other officers are killed. The death of the officers brings the case to the attention of the FBI and Mercy is assigned as the investigating agent along with her partner. Truman is still investigating the fires so the two end up working together for the first time since the big case that brought them together in the first place (the first book).
As Mercy and Truman investigate they discover that there is more going on in the rural community they live in then just a few fires. An anti-government, anti law enforcement militia is growing larger and could possibly have something to do with the fires/murders.
I enjoyed the second book and the suspense portion of the book was interesting and compelling. The author gave the reader a close look at an anti-government group and a gripping murder plot .
There were just enough twists and turns along the way to keep me interested and wondering where it would all lead. I still found the romance portion of the book weak and Mercy is a difficult character to connect with. Although I liked her more in this book I'm still not crazy about her. I love Truman's character and I also found both Mercy's niece and her boyfriend interesting characters.
I enjoyed the second book a bit more than the first and give this book 3.5 stars.

FBI agent Mercy Fitzpatrick is back. Since book 1 'A Merciful Truth' Mercy has made some life changes. She's moved back closer to her hometown, is trying to rebuild her family relationships and move things forward with Police Chief Truman Daly.
In this book both Mercy and Truman are investigating fires being set all over the county and the death of some police officers. I don't want to give too much of the plot away, but you won't be disappointed with the twist and turns in this story. Nor the continuing relationship growing between Mercy and Truman.
I'm a huge Kendra Elliot fan and was so excited to get an ARC of this book. Overall, another great read by one of my favourite authors. **ARC provided by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review**
A Merciful Truth by Kendra Elliott.
There's an arcenest is about. First an old car a dumpster and now a old barn. He is escalating. Police chef Truman Daly gets to the site when suddenly there's is gunshots. Two officers are shot. One in the head and the other in the neck. Mercy Kilpatrick is now on the case after Truman nearly loses his life.
This was a fantastic read with brilliant characters. Lots of action and I had no idea who it was. 5*. Netgalley and montlake romance.
A Merciful Truth
By Kendra Elliot
Mercy Kilpatrick, a FBI agent fresh out of Quantico is put in charge of investigating a string of arson fires that quickly escalate into shootings.
She works with Truman Daly, her unoffical boyfriend and Eagle's Nest Oregon's police chief to solve the crimes.
A fast paced crime thriller, full of excitement and intrigue.

Arson and murder in a survivalist town…
This is the second book in the Mercy Kilpatrick series that can be read as a stand-alone.
FBI Agent Mercy Kilpatrick was raised by survivalists until the age of eighteen, years later it’s still very much in her mindset to be prepared for all eventualities. She’s raising her teenage niece after the death of her brother and learning how to be a mother which she finds daunting at times. Two months into a relationship with Police Chief Truman Daly has her navigating unfamiliar emotions, trust in another is hard but she’s trying. Having permanently moved back to Eagle’s Nest, Oregon not everyone is happy with her presence, understanding the prepper mentality makes her uniquely qualified to investigate crimes in this area.
Someone is setting fires and they are escalating with each strike of the match. What started out as damage to random property now includes the death of two sheriff’s deputies, not from the arsonist’s blaze but by a sniper at the site. Together Mercy and Truman must find the arsonist/killer before more people lose their lives. The danger level increases dramatically when their investigation crosses paths with an antigovernment and law enforcement militia movement that’s secretly grown in the area.
This was a captivating fast-paced story filled with mystery, long held secrets, action and suspense. The romance wasn’t prominent, the couple came together in the first book, but you feel the depth of caring that exists between them interspersed throughout the complicated storyline. Both are haunted by their separate pasts, they are two people with flaws they are aware of connected by more than just physical chemistry, shared feelings and the capacity for empathy help them understand and start to heal, and they were great down to earth kick-ass protagonists.
The plot had many moving parts intricately woven together with unexpected twists which wrapped up nicely at the end, the mystery unraveled at a good pace, the writing was tight, there were hints that you realize were there after Mercy learns of a shocking secret. This reader loves a story she can’t figure out. The life of survivalists made for an interesting environment and characters. One thing missing was the reasons why Mercy left home so young. I suspect that will be found in book one which is now on my reading list as is the next book in this series.
