Y'all, this was right up my alley! A fake to real story line that had humor and some angst towards the end. Awesome!
Sawyer Carlyle is in of a buffer...a personal buffer to run interference from his mom's match-making. So his brother runs an ad and sends interviewees to Sawyer, unbeknownst to him. Clover is waiting for her interview with Sawyer when Mrs. Carlyle comes in. Clover figures the way to get the job is to do what was called for, she gets her to back off. Needless to say, she gets the job! But it gets better because Sawyer decides to make her his fake fiancee so his mother will back off all the way and he can finish the deal that's been three years in the making. What Sawyer doesn't plan for is to fall for Clover as they are spending time together to make the fake engagement look real. Will he realize he loves her before it's too late?
Tons of banter between Clover and Sawyer. Also tons of hot steamy times. I loved Clover. She was a free spirit who looked at everything as an adventure. I wish I was brave enough to just pick up and go like she did. She was sharp and witty and had a great heart :)

“ Everyone knows I’m not a man who waits when I’ve decided what I want”
I really enjoyed reading The Negotiator . Sawyer and Clover were fantastic, endearing and entertaining!
Sawyer is a successful business man who is fierce and gets always what he wants. However, he has one weakness… his mum.
His mum is desperate to find him the perfect fiancée, despite the fact that Sawyer has no interest at all. His brother Hudson decides to find a buffer for him.Clover applies and immediately clicks with Sawyer. Their fake engagement is played to the perfection but is it only acting or do Sawyer and Clover have feeling for each other?
Everything is negotiable for Sawyer… nearly everything. The battle for power is addicting and what they say and do to aggravate each other will have you shaking your head, essentially Sawyer – “ they are a good team” ;-)
The Negotiator is an easy read that will make you smile.
The Negotiator' by Avery Flynn is a fantastic boss/employee romance story. Clover has applied for the job of 'buffer' for Sawyer Carlyle, CEO, and workaholic billionaire needs. Clover is Ms. Independent and is only looking to make enough money so she can take a trip to Australia but when she starts to get her new boss and realize he isn’t such a bad guy, she starts to fall for him
Sawyer didn’t even want a “buffer” assistant hired yet his brother set this up for him. Someone to help him curtail his mother yet Clover came off at first as being very unsuitable but slowly he came to realize she was definitely what he needed. So he hired her and voila—the heat and witty banter was instant but these two didn’t want to admit that they needed each other. There are twists and turns ,plus one very determined mother determined to get her way in this book. Just sit back and enjoy the ride with Clover and Sawyer while they figure out if the attraction that they have is deep enough for something further, like soul deep love, like marriage.
My rating: 4.5 stars ****

The idea of this one intrigued me and I absolutely loved the first half of the book. It was witty and fun and the banter between Sawyer and Clover was often hilarious. It started to slow down some about midway and lost some of the charm that it had in the beginning. These two headstrong, assertive people seemed to calm down and almost tiptoe around each other, which was a bit of a change in character on both parts. Had the witty dialogue and humor continued in the second half of the book, it would've easily earned that fifth star. However, the story did continue to hold my interest and kept me reading to see if this couple got their happy ending, and I did enjoy the epilogue and how things came out.
2.5 Stars
I ended up mostly liking this book...there was just something about the initial meeting, finding out Sawyer was not the one looking for the "buffer" that rubbed me the wrong way and held me back from fully appreciating this title. I wanted to like it more than I did, and there were parts that I did like...there was just something about the beginning that threw me off for the rest of the book. As a result, I ended up with a 2.5 rating and we will run a promo and tour with Melissa's review for this title.
Thanks,
Laura
I think The Negotiator should come with a spew warning. Like don't drink any liquids while reading this. Such a fun romantic comedy. We have Sawyer Carlyle who is trying to run his family company while dodging his mother's candidates to be the next Mrs. Sawyer Carlyle. He really doesn't have anytime for his mother's antics. So, his brother decides to make an ad for a personal buffer, which brings Clover Lee. Clover is an interesting character, I mean she's gone on many wild adventures she can handle being a personal buffer. Oh dear lord, she's an entertaining character. The story does get progressively more fun.
Adore Clover, she brings fun into Sawyer's life. Sawyer does start to lighten up as the story goes on. In some aspect the story kind of reminded me of Pretty Woman except Clover's not a prostitute. Overall, the story was pretty entertaining, and I hope that Avery will right a story for Sawyer's brother. He seems like a fun kind of guy, but that is wishful thinking. Like I said The Negotiator is a fun romantic comedy that does have a little steam hear and there. If you are in the mood to laugh, The Negotiator is up your alley.

I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book.
The second I read this blurb I knew I wanted to try this book. It sounded fun-a billionaire who needs a buffer from his mom and hires someone for the role? Sign me up. Of course there has to be more to the story-and there was. The book had me chuckling, smirking and sighing. Overall, it was a fun read for me.
I liked Clover. She was pure fun for me to read. She was just what workaholic Sawyer needed. Clover offers up fun, friendship, and definitely attraction. From the moment I met her on the page I had a smile on my face. I admired and respected her goals and what she was doing to attain them-even if they were unconventional. Her life experiences (I don't want to spoil some of her other jobs in life because I think they're fun) all help to build who she is as a person.
Sawyer was everything I expected him to be. Focused on work and a shrewd negotiator. I didn't expect the soft side of him to run so deep-but I positively loved it. He wasn't prepared in any way for Clover, which made their relationship that much more fun from the get go.
The chemistry between them is undeniable. I liked their flirty banter, I liked their dates and their sexy times suited them perfectly. I loved how these two were total opposites but were 100% perfect for each other. I also love that the author flipped a general stereotype of having the man in a relationship be afraid of commitment/taking the next step and flipped it. You don't see that done often and it was done really well here.
The supporting characters in this book were interesting to me as well. I'd like to get a little more about Sawyer's brother, so I'm hoping that his story will get told. I would recommend this book and look forward to reading more from this author.
Witty and clever, The Negotiator sucked me in instantly and I did not want to put it down! It's a bit of a twist on the small town girls meets millionaire executive trope, but such a good one! These two had so much chemistry and were so good together! A must read for sure.
Hot rich guy that is too absorbed in his business to really date? Check.
Free spirited woman that has no problem standing up to a guy trying to tell her what to do? Check.
A fantastic author that writes a super hot, and super funny story? Check, check, check!
I was only a few pages in, and I had already chuckled or snickered several times. And then the further I went, the more I laughed, groaned, and became addicted. I've been a fan of Avery Flynn for what feels like forever - ever since she first released her Laytons series (though it was originally released under a different title). She has never let me down. I've loved every thing I've read by Flynn, but I have to be honest with you guys... The Negotiator is my favorite to date. As much as I loved the Laytons, Sawyer and Clover have blown them out of the water.
This book was just.. fun. I loved seeing the two butt heads - seeing Sawyer at a loss for words because this woman beat him at his own negotiating game. I didn't want to stop reading when my lunch break was over, and I was desperate to get back to it when I got off work. It's a fast, enjoyable read that I would totally recommend to contemporary romance fans wanting a cute, humorous story.
Cover Lovin': That model.. Excuse me while I go swoon.
Recommendation: Perfect for contemporary romance fans. No prior knowledge necessary.
Final Rating: FOUR out of FIVE stars (4/5)! Cute, fun, funny, and a truly great read.
Let’s just start with the cover, shall we?!? Wow...that alone is worth the price of admission :)
Avery Flynn, I’m not quite sure why I had not read any of your books until now, but I promise you, if the rest of your books are anything like The Negotiator, you have a new fan.
After the death of his father, Sawyer Carlyle is drowning with the responsibility of his family and their business. Sawyer’s mother plans to get him married off sooner than later and is throwing socialites at him left and right. However, Sawyer is content running the family business and growing the Carlyle legacy. When an ad has been placed for a “buffer” between Sawyer Carlyle and his mother, Sawyer had no idea what he was in for.
What could possibly go wrong with this cover up??
Jane “Clover” Lee is a free-spirited woman who jumps around from job to job and is looking to make some money to get her off to Australia. She is well traveled and tries to make a difference wherever she lands. Answering an ad for a “buffer”, Clover goes in for the interview and tells off Sawyer’s mother instantly. OMG, I died laughing! This girl has it all…brains, beauty and such a smart-ass mouth to top it all off!
“I love that even without saying a word, you’ve out negotiated me. Every time.”
The CHEMISTRY between Sawyer and Clover just makes this book! Their banter is one for the ages and was funny as hell. Clover absolutely makes this book. Her intelligence and charm totally win everyone she meets over. Through the entire book, the dialogue between the main characters was written with plenty of fun, touching moments and a bunch of attitude 😉There were plenty of touching moments as well as the “what are you thinking?” moments.
The Negoitator has enough sass, fun times and a little drama to make it a great read. I highly suggest one-clicking this book!!
Phenomenal. The first word that popped into my head after reading this book. It is explosive heat wrapped up in whimsical romance. I don't even know if I can properly describe it. Sawyer is uptight but he is also a dirty dirty boy. While Clover is a free spirit that of course is his complete mental opposite. It sparks wild fires people. These two are insanely hot together. There are all these little things about each of them that will make you fall so madly in love with them that you will love the book as much as I did. I would rate it way above a 5 if I could. This book captured me.
I want Hudson's story now. The brother who orchestrated this entire book. He has to have one. I could spoil so much but I wont. Just read the book, love it then fall over loving it. That is an order. Every character was built to perfection and complexity. The plot was fun and not full of drama. It was just one of the best books I had read in a long while. I very highly recommend it.
The Negotiator was a fun; at times a bit quirky read that as much as it kills me to say I just didn’t love. It is a good book, don’t think that it is not but sometimes you just don’t connect with characters and that is what happened here. I liked the whole premise for the book, I was intrigued and curious about how this one would play out, but sadly it didn’t work for me like I had hoped it would.
Clover, she just got on my nerves on more than one occasion. I couldn’t connect with her, I couldn’t find her character very likable and I promise I tried to, I tried so hard but I think for me, Clover is like the oil to my water, we just don’t mix. Sawyer at times was also aggravating but for some reason I liked his character more than I did Clover. I think a small part of me felt for him and his need for a “buffer”. The lack of communication between these two was what put the knife in the story for me.
While The Negotiator had some laugh out loud moments, they weren’t enough for me to love this one. Maybe it will work better for some of you, like I have always said when a book didn’t exactly work for me, go read it for yourself, form your own opinion, what works for one may not for another.
There are days that at times are just plain rough but then you pick up a book such as this one. It will take you into another direction with the writing that uses characters that contains romance and comedy on a hot level. This features Sawyer and Clover who are the ones that transport you. I am not to much into rich boys anymore unless the author can change my mind such as this one can. The opener is the hook that plants you for the duration of this. What comes off the pages is explosive and some good reading. Clover is the one that kept grabbing my attention especially when the two come head to head. So glad I did not pass this one up.
received in exchange for a honest review.
Overall a fun sassy book. We see a lot of trying to prove to ourselves we are not like our parents and trying not to be them.
That is Clover. She tries so hard to be the exact opposite of her mom that she loses sight of who her mom is and what her mom feels. She doesn’t see her mom really. It takes Sawyer for her to realize things. He helps her see there is more to finding a purpose than just traveling. He shows her you can be rooted and still have adventure and purpose. Overall Clover is sassy and independent. Fun and adventurous but lost on where she belongs. In her journey she becomes a buffer for a surly overbearing but can be sweet man named Sawyer.
For me Sawyer lacked social graces. He was gruff around the edges. His mom was doing something out there but out of love so when Clover steps in as a buffer we see there is more to Sawyer. As these two explore who they are apart and together we see that they grow. They learn that love isn’t bad and doesn’t hurt. That together they are stronger and whole. Apart they are lost and for Sawyer he doesn’t see anything but work. Clover helps him to see beyond the office and explore the world around him. He learns to socialize and just be.
A fun sassy sexy romance that will have you laugh when Sawyer gets hooked on DIY shows and Clover learns that being rooted isn’t bad. We get a swoony ending that will have your heart soar and two people find what they needed with each other.

Hang on to your knickers ladies, the Carlyle brothers are in town, and boy do they know how to endear themselves to you.
IMAGE.
Although The Negotiator gives us Sawyer’s story, I was just as intrigued by Hudson, and will say straight off the bat that I hope the author has his story in the pipeline especially after the little tease she left us dangling with in the epilogue for this story.
"I never would have guessed you didn’t have any experience working with your hands…"
This was an easy going read once things got going, I found the first half a little on the pedestrian side, but the second half really grabbed and pulled me into the story that was playing out with uptight Sawyer and go-with-the-flow Clover. I was reminded a little of the films Sabrina (Sawyer reminded me of Harrison Ford's character in that film sooo much) and Pretty Woman with certain aspects of the story, although Clover is 100% not a Hollywood Boulevard hooker!
"The next six weeks are going to last forever."
As you would expect with an opposites attract story, it doesn’t take long for things to develop with our couple. Clover pushes Sawyer to see that there is life outside of work and the office, while Sawyer pushes her to realize that being settled and living your life in one place doesn’t equal failure or settling for second best.
"I’m trying to compliment you…"
"...That’s not exactly your strong point."
The banter is great, the sexy-times diverse and the secondary characters really kept everything moving along and entertaining, this is basically your faux-mance that turns into a romance, with a few (predictable) surprises thrown in along the way. The author developed everything really well though, and I hope against hope that Hudson gets a book soon.
"Attraction isn’t logical."

I loved this book.
Meet a master at negotiation when he meets his own master at this art.
The Negotiator by Avery Flynn is a stand-alone full-length romance novel with a HEA.
Meet Sawyer Carlyle, a 32 year old CEO of Carlyle Enterprises who lives and breathes for his work.
His brother puts a ad for a " personal buffer " up and Clover Lee, a adventurous free spirit but also down to earth answers it. He hires her on the spot and now the fun begins.
I loved how Clover calls him on his wrong doings. And not only Sawyer. This woman has ladyballs.
I was highly entertained reading this book. It was heartwarming, hilarious and I couldn't put it down. I loved every page of this book, every single one. I loved the characters, the stubborn man hero and the sassy heroine who takes no s**t from anybody.
5 Stars and Thank you Avery Flynn !
This is a laugh out loud, hot but sweet romance which I thoroughly enjoyed!
Sawyer Carlyle is a workaholic billionaire whose mother is determined to have married to one of the young ladies she keeps introducing him to. He loves his Mum but struggles to get her to let him lead his life how he wants - and preferably without all the potential bridal candidates she keeps presenting to him. His brother advertises for someone to act as a buffer, someone to prevent those endeavouring to distract him from his work - especially their Mum. Sawyer isn’t impressed when he finds out about the advert or the potential candidates for the job who are awaiting him interviewing them! All seems lost until his Mum appears and one of the candidates actually intervenes to send his Mum away. That candidate was Clover Lee. She even manages to impress the unimpressionable and is totally a free spirit. Talk about opposites attracting! She gets speedily promoted from buffer to fake fiancé . . . and proves to be a sensational negotiator in the process!
This is a hilarious story of someone meeting their match in every sense of the term. It has great characters, an endearing plot and lots of fun throughout it. I enjoyed escaping into this sweet, delightful, contemporary romance and believe others will, too! Another great story from Avery Flynn, I can’t wait to read more from her in future!
I requested and received a copy of this book via NetGalley without any obligation. This is my honest opinion after reading it.
Sawyer Carlyle is focused on his business, and avoiding his mom and her constant matchmaking. So when his brother sets up interviews for a ‘personal buffer’ and the perfect candidate steps up immediately, Sawyer finds himself hiring an employee like he’s never had before.
Clover Lee is a free spirit. Looking to finance a trip to Australia, she is immediately interested in the temporary and well paying job Sawyer offers. Sawyer thinks he is the master negotiator? Well, he may have just met his match…
I loved this book! With a tried and true plot theme that is done so well that it is in no way a typical overdone storyline like you see in so many other books out there.
Clover is a free spirit, but in no way flighty. She is smart and passionate about traveling and doing so by working one crazy job after another. Sawyer is the typical workaholic who doesn’t see Clover coming, and he gives in with very little fight to all of her contract ideas and negotiations. Hilarious and interesting characters… friends, family and Sawyer’s staff are all fun and add so much to the entirety of the book.
This book was a fun, refreshing read that kept me engrossed and entertained throughout… a must read!
I received a complimentary copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review.
