I absolutely adored this book! It was funny, sweet, heartwarming and very sexy! Sawyer Carlyle had to take over the family business after his father's sudden death. His mother is afraid that he is working too much and wants to find him a wife. When his brother Hudson places an ad to help Sawyer dodge unwanted attention, he never expected to find a force of nature like Clover Lee. She was beautiful, intelligent and sassy. When she effortlessly and hilariously steps in and sends his mother away, he reluctantly hires her. Negotiations between the two are fast as Clover out maneuvered and beguiled Sawyer. Clover is only looking for a temporary job to fund her next adventure. She never wanted to stay in one place and turn into her mother. When she must pose as Sawyers fake fiance, and move in with him, the re-negotiations are even more hilarious. Clover has a way of rising above her insecurities and challenging the socially awkward but super sexy Sawyer. She entices him to do things he never thought would be so much fun. Their banter is hilarious and their chemistry is explosive. When they both start to imagine the possibility of a future together, their big picture plans get in the way. There were so many laugh out loud moments but many sweet and heartwarming moments as well, not to mention their fiery passion! Their family and friends are all intriguing and wonderful characters adding to the fun and rounding out this story. This is the perfect blend of humor, charm, emotion and steam. It captured my heart and had me totally engaged from start to finish. I definitely recommend this must read romance!
This is my first time reading Avery Flynn, and I'll be sending a thank you note to the person who recommended her. The Negotiator is a charming romance where two opposites meet through unusual and hilarious circumstances and discover that love is sometimes found through the craziest of circumstances.
Sawyer Carlyle is a wealthy businessman who spends 24/7 leading his family’s business empire. He doesn’t have time to focus on romantic relationships, but his meddling, overbearing mother wants to find him a high society wife, and she is constantly throwing women of her choosing at him in an attempt to play matchmaker. Sawyer’s brother runs a cheeky ad to hire a “buffer” for him to hold their mother at bay, and, what starts out as a brotherly prank, ends up being one the best ideas ever.
Jane "Clover” Lee is a free-spirit who takes random, odd jobs to fund her adventures around the world, and she applies for the buffer position. While she’s waiting for her interview, she has an accidental run-in with Sawyer’s mom that he witnesses, and he hires her on the spot. She impresses him further when she out-negotiates him on the terms of her employment, because he considers himself a master at negotiating.
Clover and Sawyer decide to fake an engagement, so she’ll be more of a border wall than a mere buffer, and they begin to spend a lot of time together—even moving in together. Both are attracted to each other and intrigued by all their differences, and they have a dynamic repartee that keeps both of them on their toes. When they cross the line of fake relationship into real, find both wonder (and worry) whether they can find enough common ground to possibly create a life together.
The Negotiator is fun and sexy, and Clover and Sawyer are both charming, smart and witty. They share great banter as they continue to negotiate their increasing complicated liaison keeping each other—and the reader—on their toes.
It all begins with a prank by his brother and brings together two very opposite people in an unlikely relationship.
Sawyer Carlyle lives and breathes the family business and has since he could walk and his mother's schemes to get him married off are becoming unbearable, but with the recent loss of his father it's difficult for him to tell her off strongly and risk hurting her. Enter his younger brother with what starts as a prank but ends up being the answer to Sawyer's prayer.
Clover Lee enjoys a carefree life without roots and a temporary gig as a buffer sounds like just the thing before she takes off on her next jaunt, but she does not bargain for Sawyer, the attraction between them and the expansion of her role from buffer to temporary fiancée and everything in between!
Clover and Sawyer are truly opposites in every way and you'd think they can't find anything in common, but they settled into a very nice friendship and I liked that they were willing to try out new experiences for each other.
One look at that cover and I had to read this book, even if it had the phone beneath it (thankfully it didn't). THE NEGOTIATOR was delightful and entertaining but also sweet and had some touching moments. It has the perfect recipe for a fun read that Ms. Flynn does so well: really engaging characters, laugh out loud moments, witty dialogue and the right amount of sizzle.
I have heard nothing but amazing things about Avery Flynn books so when I got the chance to read The Negotiator early I was thrilled and I got into this book as soon as I could and I enjoyed this book so much . Sawyer is dealing with his mother who is determined to marry him off and who comes to the rescue you might ask? Clover! ,she stands up to his mother and then after this she thinks she doesn't have a chance a getting the job she was coming to be interviewed for , but instead she gets offers something else instead , being a fake fiance to Sawyer and this really where this story takes off.I loved the romance between these two , as time goes by you see these two fall in love with each other , even when they didn't realize it them selves. I felt that the romance was sexy and fun . But besides the romance I love how everything was dealt with when it came to Sawyer's mom, it made me so happy . This story was an such good story ,its sexy ,fun and had such a swoony Happily ever after ending .I am very interested to see what Avery Flynn writes next . If you love all these things in you should definitely pick up a copy.
Ms. Flynn lightens the mood while setting the atmosphere ablaze. The Negotiator is an opposites attract story, Sawyer is not above breaking a few rules, but free spirit Clover knows how to lay down the law. It is so much fun to watch the player get played. A seductive game of hard ball, that is amusing to watch unfold.
Clover Lee decided early on that she wasn't cut-out for domestic life, she watched her mother give-up her dreams of travel to settle for married life and Clover didn't want to follow the same fate. So, she has become somewhat of a nomad, traveling from place to place, taking odd jobs just for the life experiences, and once the job is done she is one to the next. She has a plan for a trip to Australia in the works, but she is a little short on funds, so she hits up the wanted ads in hopes of finding something temporary to get her what she needs for her next adventure... and winds up on a adventure she never expected would come her way... love!!
Sawyer Carlyle lives and breaths the family business, so much so, his family is starting to grow quite concerned about him forgetting about the world around him. His mother would love to see him break away from the business a bit, and find a good woman to settle down with, but so far she hasn't been able to convince him to take her bait. Sawyer on the other hand, just sees it as his mother meddling in his personal life, and he is growing quite tired of it, so with his brothers help he comes up with a little plan to convince her to butt out. But after he meets the beautiful blonde who is supposed to help him carry out this little plan things start to backfire, and this "all business" man starts to see the appeal of living life outside the confines of his office!
Minutes into this read I was quickly reminded why I love Ms. Flynn's books so much, her well crafted quirky characters waltz onto to the page, the witty sexually charged banter starts, and I start to beam, knowing I'm about to be taken on hell of a literary journey!! And this journey was flipping AMAZING, it had it all; a swoonworthy alpha male, laugh out loud humor, an inspiring feisty heroine, and an enthralling story line that is loaded emotion and sizzle!! Highly recommend you pick this one up, I guarantee you walk away with a happy heart, and harboring a serious crush on Mr. Carlyle!!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this title.
'The Negotiator' by Avery Flynn. This is the story of Jane "Clover" Lee and Sawyer Carlyle.
Clover has applied for the job of 'buffer' that Sawyer's brother put in the paper. Clover likes to be independent and doesn't want a permanent job. So with those two things she has ended up doing a lot of odd jobs like a 'snake milker'. So Clover thinks this will be the next new experience for her.
Sawyer is the oldest son of a very large business that is family owned. His father has died about three years ago and now his mother has come out of mourning with the tunnel thought of getting Sawyer married. So Sawyer is now faced with a determine mother and beautiful but no personality women being thrown at him. Sawyer just wants to run the family company and help make sure his family is okay. After having a few drinks with his brother he happens to joke that he needs a 'buffer' to deal with his mother's marriage minded women. But his brother surprised him by putting a ad in the paper and now Sawyer is having to let these people no there is no job. When he goes to tell them Clover speaks up and shows him that he may need her after all.
This was funny yet very sweet romance that I couldn't put down. I loved also the secondary characters which makes this book and extra joy to read.

This was a cute take on the "fake relationship" trope.
Sawyer works way too much and is more than a little clueless when it comes to women. He desperately wants to avoid the set ups his mother keeps creating for him and his brother "helps" by posting an add for a "personal buffer" and screens the candidates - all men and 1 Clover Lee.
I enjoyed these two together! Clover helped bring Sawyer out of his workaholic world and show him there could be more to life at the same time he showed her a version of relationships/domestic life that didn't have to be the "prison" she thought marriage would be.
There were lots of funny and sweet moments along with some very steamy scenes. The supporting cast in the form of Sawyer's mother and brother were subtle, but key players in the story. One of the things I appreciated was that the conflict between Sawyer and Clover was organic to their relationship and a classic case of them wanting the same thing, but not being able to communicate it.
Sawyer is a slightly different take on the alpha/billionaire hero. He's quirky and has a personality slightly at odds with the alpha persona and that made me like him that much more. This is definitely a fun book to escape with.
The Negotiator by Avery Flynn.....10 NEGOTIATOR STARS!! I loved this story so much, as always Avery Flynn gives us a fun page turning book. Clover is a beautiful strong woman that teaches Sawyer a thing or two. Sawyer is my new book boyfriend, so hot and rich. I loves seeing this story play out, such a fun feel good book. I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book from publisher via NetGalley.
Avery Flynn just made this book so much fun to read. I truly enjoyed it! The Negotiator has it all from being funny, then turning sexy, to loving the awkward moments between Clover and Sawyer. You will have a lot of the laugh out loud moments that get you through the book.
Clover is quirky, funny, sassy, and sexy all wrapped in one! She is my go to girl and has me itching to go check out my local flea market! You will understand my need to go after you read this book! Her love for adventure and travels shows you a side of her free spirit. To take the job as a "Buffer" was just perfect for her. It was temporary where she did not have to settle down. No way no how, or so she thought. The part where she meets Sawyer's mother for the first time had me laughing so hard, I wished I was there to see Clover's horrid expression!
Sawyer has only ever had one love in his life...his work. It has been and always will come first. That is why his mother is bringing a parade of "Wife To Be" woman to him non stop. No one has ever kept him interested until Clover. When she handles his mom, he takes notice and now wants her. Is it for business only? Or will it become personal? When these two are together, Clover brings so many sides of this man that you can not help but fall for Sawyer too.
You definitely get the funny moments in this book. But don't forget there are a lot of hot sexy scenes coming your way too. Don't miss out on this hot new read!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It is funny, sexy and romantic. Sawyer has a major stick-up-his-bum and Clover is just the girl to remove it. (Ugh! That doesn’t sound right, but you know what I mean.) These two are a classic case of opposites attract. Sawyer is a business man and Clover is an adventurer. They are sure that there is no way they will fall for each other.
Clover is a lively character. She seems to be a flighty, irresponsible, good time girl. However, beneath her flighty and flouncy exterior beats the heart of a serious negotiator. The way she is able to get her way with Sawyer before he even knows what hit him is hilarious. I also liked the scenes when she negotiated with Sawyer’s mother who had a less than favorable opinion of Clover.
Sawyer is stuffy and set in his ways before his time. He takes his position as the CEO of his family’s company very seriously and doesn’t want anything – or anyone – to get in the way of his plans. His brother, Hudson, places the ad for a “personal buffer” and although Sawyer thinks the idea is ridiculous, he changes his mind as soon as Clover stands up to the one person he can’t – his mother.
Clover and Sawyer have instant chemistry. The sexy-times in the book are off the chart! The development of their relationship is sexy and sweet. I loved the way they each change for the other and realize that what they thought they wanted out of life isn’t necessarily all they want.
Rating:
I loved this book and give it a 5/5!
LOVED this one!! It's fun, witty, and sexy good. The overall premise is great but the characters make this one memorable. Clover is my new favorite female character!
Workaholic billionaire Sawyer Carlyle was only joking when he commented to his brother that he needed a "buffer". Mainly to keep their meddling, wedding crazed mother at bay. But when his brother actually posts and ad and he has someone applying he's intrigued. He's always thought of himself as the king of negotiating but he realizes how wrong he is when the applicant, Clover Lee, quickly out negotiates him for the position. That should have been his first red flag but before Sawyer knows it he's doing things he never would have done before Clover. Good thing she's only around for six weeks or he'd really be in trouble!!
Put this on the must read list. I highly recommend it.
A workaholic billionaire needs to keep his mother off his heels, especially when the search for a wife gets tiring, tedious and damn inconvenient. The solution? A personal buffer, an off-the-cuff job ad that brings the unlikeliest of candidates to his office and into his life, in an effort to throw off the women his snooty mother keeps shoving at him.
From a personal buffer (sounds like a flaky job opening I’d probably apply for after losing my life’s calling) to a hurried, fake engagement, Clover Lee’s quirky, non-committal, flighty and adventure-seeking ways are given a complete hose-down when faced (literally) with a brick wall who’s quite the stick-in-the-mud about routines and business. Her weird demands teach Sawyer Carlyle a different kind of spontaneity, but then Clover also has a lesson coming for her as she manipulates her way through his money to pay for her next adventure in Australia.
Clover’s calculating edge and well, her blindness to her own family needs weren’t quite so likeable—I was a few paces away from wondering about her being a gold-digger—but it’s basically a story where the hero has a lot more to learn from life than the heroine somehow. The grovelling happens because Sawyer speaks of partnerships and business but can’t seem to understand love and connection, though I didn’t quite think Clover should have been exempt from meeting him halfway.
While not entirely unpredictable, ‘The Negotiator’s got the jaunty tone of rom-coms, that snort-laugh type of jokes (which definitely places you in entertaining fictional la-la-land), the instant attraction and lust metre amped up to max complete with some kind of comic timing that makes it a fun read. It’s also an easy one to get through, perfect for a lazy afternoon.
I was browsing through my TBR pile, ARC pile, and audiobook playlist and discovered I had nothing to read. Bwahaha. So like any good, bibliophile, I began browsing online retailers, my inbox and online galley sites looking for something that said read me. That's when THE NEGOTIATOR by Avery Flynn screamed read me.
Ok, first the cover popped out and said, "Yum, look at me," then the synopsis indicated it featured one of my favorite troupes. Avery Flynn was on my authors to try list and I couldn't have picked a better book. Fun, sexy, heartwarming, and filled with swoon-worthy heat I devoured THE NEGOTIATOR. Enjoy my review, check out the excerpt and then enter to win a digital copy of your own.
Caffeinated Dates with The Negotiator
First Date: I loved how our first date began and right away I adored, quirky, activist and adventurer Jane "Clover" Lee. Sawyers Mom has decided he needs to be wed and has been driving him crazy with the parade of potential partners. Mrs. Carlye is a force and Sawyer's younger brother unbeknownst to him decides to help him out by running an ad for a personal buffer. The set up is hilarious and how Clover got the job had me grinning and settling in.
Second Date: They say opposites attract that is if they don't kill each other and Clover may just kill him. In one moment she has gone from personal buffer to fake fiance and finds herself rooming with one deliciously hot workaholic. If you are looking for a humorous, light, sexy romance you'll want to download THE NEGOTIATOR. I loved the contract, the build up of heat, the humor and HGTV moments. I am enjoying both characters and love seeing Sawyer relax and loosen up his tie. Little side threads and secondary characters add depth and give us a better understand of our couple.
Third Date: While the storyline isn't full of surprises, the refreshing characters, playful moments as the romance moved into something more had me flipping the pages. While the cliche' drama that unfolded annoyed me, it did allow for growth of character in both Clover and Sawyer. Reveals as to characters actions particularly those of secondary characters delivered touching moments. The ending was adorkable and I enjoyed the epilogue immensely.
If you are looking for a heated, humorous and feel good romance you cannot go wrong with THE NEGOTIATOR.
An addictive book from start to finish. Fresh, witty, intoxicating and left me wanting more! If you've never read a book from Avery Flynn then you are in for a treat. Relationships are messy, unpredictable and full of "oh yeah" moments. This book has that and more! I cant wait to read the next installment.
A rich brotherly prank between the Carlyle family, leads to the free-spirited Clover Lee to apply for a position as Sawyer Carlyle buffer between himself and his mother. Sawyer’s mother has plans to get him married off and is throwing every socialite she can find at him. While Sawyer just want to focus on business and growing his family’s legacy.
Appearing as complete opposites, the chemistry between Sawyer and Clover makes for highly entertaining reading. Not only are Clover quirks laugh out loud funny but the immediate attraction and growing friendship make this a totally believable and swoon worthy story-telling. Add in controlling and over bearing parents and you’ve got yourself a recipe for a perfect contemporary romance.
THE NEGOTIATOR is a flat out sweet and endearing. Emotionally invested from the start, I couldn't help but love Clover aka Jane. What EVERY contemporary romance should be, Flynn balances the humor and conflict, the swooning and the steam to make a fantastic read.
I have to admit I was totally taken by surprise with the puppet master of this entire event and love how Flynn played it so well.
I received this ARC copy of The Negotiator from Entangled Publishing, LLC. This is my honest and voluntary review. The Negotiator is set for publication April 24, 2017.
