Sweet, sexy friends to lovers story. Can't say one bad thing about this story :) Makes a great summer read!
Jackie and Vince are co-VP’s of marketing at their firm and best friends outside of work. Both are divorced, both have more or less given up on dating, and both have truckloads of emotional baggage.
When Jackie notices an incredibly attractive man running shirtless outside of her office, Vince offers to coach her in how to get back out there and approach him. Before she knows it, she’s on a date with JT and things are going great... except for her developing feelings for Vince. Meanwhile, Vince is feeling more than friendly toward Jackie, so things are bound to get a little awkward.
First things first: This book was good! I don’t want any of the comments I’m about to make to overshadow the fact that this book was really enjoyable and entertaining. It’s not my first Jessica Lemmon book, and I doubt it will be my last. It was well-written with great characters and a new twist on the friends-to-lovers trope (which is, by the way, my favorite trope of all time).
What happens is that Jackie dates JT while Vince coaches her on how to date in the modern world -- which basically consists of him taking her out quite a bit. Vince has feelings for her, she has feelings for him, but Jackie is dating JT for real and neither Jackie nor Vince wants to discuss their feelings with each other. Also, JT doesn’t know about Vince. He just thinks that Vince is just Jackie’s best friend.
So, basically, we’ve got a mess. Some more things happen, most of which are pretty hypocritical, but I’m not going to get into specifics for fear of delving into spoilers.
As I was reading this book, I found myself wondering, “Wow, is THIS what modern dating is like?!” I’m not particularly old, but I’ve been in a relationship for more than eight years. This whole book just illustrates my fears if I would ever have to get back out there. The dating landscape has changed so much that I’m not sure I could handle it anymore!
Overall, I enjoyed this book, but it wasn’t my favorite. I think with a bit less purposeful miscommunication and unnecessary angst, I would have enjoyed this book a lot more. I do have to mention how I loved all of the side characters, though. I sincerely hope that Davis (in all his broody glory) has his own book. I would read the heck out of it.
This book is very fluffy. Best friend is in love with the girl but said girl is afraid to date. So Vince gets the bright idea make Jackie date so she will be ready for when he finally asks her out but what happens when she starts to like the other guy? Chaos that's what;)
Eye Candy is a lighthearted story about friends who eventually become lovers. We have Jackie and Vince who are both VP's at a marketing firm. They are best friends and have turned to one another for support through tough times. Jackie has her eye on a male who jogs past her window everyday at the same time. Vince essentially "coaches" her but also tries to get her to see that he may be the perfect man for her instead.
I am a sucker for such romances especially stories with great characters. It was clear that Jackie and Vince had a mutual respect for one another. I love that this story shows that there is no power struggle between the two or even animosity. It shows that men and women are able to successfully work together. I loved the relationship between the two characters and it was so clear that they were perfect for each other!
It's a pretty cute story about a girl falling for a dude, and them another dude, who just so happens to be her divorced bffl. Plot line is ok, characters have slight character. End story. Lightly bland, really sweet. I enjoyed it.
Two divorced, single adults, who work together and have become best friends during their post divorce recovery, take on an unusual relationship as mentor and pupil as they reenter the dating world. From the worst of his divorce to now, something shifted in the way Vince Carson saw his co-VP and best friend Jackie. Suddenly, the woman who got him like no other was someone he desired and wanted more with. But a scalded cat is a scaredy cat… So instead of telling her what he wanted and asking her on a date, Vince convinces her to go out with a hot runner she's been ogling outside her window the past few weeks. The more time Jackie and Vince spend together, the crazier the situation becomes. Soon, Jackie starts to fall for Vince and he for her, but will he man up and come clean? Vince is afraid Jackie has friend-zoned him. Having been hurt before, he is cautious about his heart, but this is his Jackie and letting someone else have her is not an option… But trust is an issue and without trust there can be nothing else. Eye Candy is a romantic comedy that will make you laugh out loud, cheer for the under dogs and love every page of it. A delightful romance with good friends, hot chemistry and second chances.
This is my second book from this author and I really enjoy it!It was sweet and I love the twists in the story!
Full disclosure is always a good way to start a story thus.... In exchange for my honest review, I received an ARC of Eye Candy by Jessica Lemmon. With that piece of business out of the way, let me get to that review.
Full disclosure and business are both parts of the story line of Eye Candy. Jacqueline and Vince work for the same company. The are both young, attractive and divorced. They are also harboring bitter feelings for their ex-spouses. They are co-VPs of a marketing firm. Jacqueline and Vince become confidants and very close friends after Vince's divorce. She has already gone through hers and decides that perhaps Vince could use a friend that understands the bitter taste of divorce and might like to replace it with beer, pizza and popcorn.
A shirtless, jogger who passes by Jacqueline's office window every day at 11:45AM becomes a significant figure in their story. It was then super interesting to learn that Ms. Lemmon actually started this novel around the idea of the jogger.
I happen to believe that men and women can be friends, even best friends, without there being anything sexual between them. That is part of my own reality but when reading a novel, I can put aside some of my reality in order to enjoy the characters and the hows, whys and ways they connect. The shirtless jogger, Vince and Jacqueline make an interesting trio. Add in a protective sister for Jacqueline, a love scorned and scarred, jaded male best pal for Vince and a cast of secondary characters that swirl into the story almost seamlessly. I would even go as far to say that some of those secondary characters could be used in other novels, should Ms. Lemmon choose to explore that avenue.
Eye Candy is an easy read. It is the perfect "beach read" book. Love, sex, disappointment, betrayal, alcohol and humor all have a home in the story. Technically I read the book in less than 2 days. After an unfortunate incident and the receipt of a new Kindle, I was able to finish the last 10% of the book that I had left dangling. Although I was frustrated to have that 10% still out there, it gave me time to think about how our two primary characters would get to what I presumed would be their natural ending.
I would like to address safe sex. Young people who read the sex scenes in this book, please, please, please use condoms. Do not take the word of a lover that they are clean. Ask for proof and even then, use condoms. It may not make for the sexiest part of intimacy but in today's world we are dealing with far more than uncomfortable STDs or unplanned pregnancies. There are STDs that can make one very sick and there are some (eg: HIV/AIDS) that can be fatal. As the mother of sons, I have passed on this wisdom in my own life. As a divorcee, I insisted on it when I personally began intimate relationships. That leads me to trust and yes, I think that there becomes a time that you trust a sexual partner and may move away from condoms.
On the topic of trust, we see the theme throughout Eye Candy. It is often the undoing of trust that brings the reader into the more developed scenes.
Find your place on the beach, your patio, your backyard... Slather on your sunscreen and put on your sunglasses because it will be easy to lose track of time while reading this novel. It is not always fun but it catches your attention, perhaps takes you by surprise and certainly fills the need for a good "chick lit" read.
This book was adorable. I ate it up! A story of two people overcoming their doubts and insecurities from past relationships in hopes of being with each other.
ackie is joint VP of marketing, a divorcee she has given up on men, except the hunk-a-hunk-a burning love that runs past her office window every day. If she needs to talk to a man she has her joint VP Vince to talk to.
Vince is also a divorcee. Over the past year or two he and Jackie have commiserated each other over their divorces and got into the habit of spending the weekends together watching films and eating pizza. It's just that recently Vince has had some VERY friendly thoughts about Jackie but she seems to have friend-zoned him completely. Do these two admit their feelings and end up together?
Good friends to lovers story, but the main characters were hard to connect and identify with.
3.5- I loved Vince and Jackie! Vince was pretty swoon worthy and Jackie was an all around good heroine. I loved Vince and Jackie's friendship, and they had a lot of chemistry. I liked the fact that they both went through divorces but in different ways. They were able to bond and make eachother stronger over what happened in both their marriages. For some reason this book seemed really long, I'm not sure if it was just me or not. Overall good read.
This is a warm, funny, sexy read with great characters who leap off the page and demand a beer. The pivot point of the story - that a woman sees a hunk running by her window and lusts after him, confides in her male bestie, who's already a little in love with her - is slightly wacky, but done so well it all makes sense in context. Not only does it make sense it winds us up and flings us into an emotional ride with Vince & Jackie until they can get out of their own way & find their HEA. Together. Thank God. I really enjoyed reading this book - it was fun, well written, nicely paced, with terrific characters. Highly Recommend.
Eye Candy was a very realistic, cute story. I enjoyed the writing, the characters and real life issues between the two main characters. Pheomenal read.
Jacqueline is one half VP at her company. She's a smart, brilliant, beautiful and clumsy. Jackie was just outstanding. She had divorced her husband and thought about getting back on the scene dating wise when she admired a jogger named JT. She was poised. I loved her boldness, but how shy she was at the same time.
Vince was an amazing guy. He was the other VP and best male friend of Jackie's. Vince was a handsome, smart and almost dominating man. I enjoyed him from start to finish. I loved how much he cared for Jackie and tried to make things work.
The romance was beautiful. I mean best friends that work phenomenally as a couple AND business partners, what more could you want. I hated the mind games they played, but at the same time it was essential to their growth. I loved seeing them together and really working hard for what they wanted. Beautiful.
Definitely a good read!
DNF so I will not be rating or reviewing. Thank you for the opportunity to review this title.
Hilarious, sweet, and sexy! Eye Candy is a book that will leave you smiling and happy!
not the best work by this author.. or maybe I was expecting more from this story than what I got, but I didn't like this book
There was so much push and pull and will they or won't they, that you need a neck brace!
It was a good quick read for a friends to lovers romance, though..
Jackie and Vince are have been friends for years, both are divorced, and both have duffle nags of baggage.
Jackie needs help winning back the hot guy (J.T.) who she has the hots for, and Vince is willing to be her coach to get said guy. And you guessed it, they start falling for each other.
There was some great banter, they volleyed their words between each other with ease. There are moments that you chuckle at them or with them. And the angst, chock full of it!
It did get a little annoying with the constant back and forth and hypocrisy of "cheating". You just scream to them "get it together!" And how they tended to handle certain situations was below them and along with shouting "get it together!" you add on "grow up!"
When you get to the end you feel like you made it through the race and deserve a medal!
This is a very fun friends - to - lovers romance. Jacqueline and Vince are best friends as well as co-vice presidents at their marketing firm. They have both suffered damaging divorces and bonded over those experiences. Jackie is just about ready to get back in the saddle and start dating again. And the guy she’s interested in is the hunky guy who jogs past her office window every day and happens to live across the street from her.
Vince has been hiding that he has the hots from the woman he’s been hanging out with for several years watching movies and eating pizza. He’s afraid to say anything to her about his feelings so he pretends to help coach her in dating the shirtless jogging guy. The first half of the book concerns Jackie’s dating life as she follows Vince’s advice. Thankfully, she wises up and falls into bed with Vince who is worthwhile eye candy his own self.
THe second half of the book involves Vince and Jackie figuring out what to make of their relationship. Are they friends with benefits or is there something more between them? At times it was a bit annoying. If both of them would just be honest about their feelings, they could have figured things out much earlier, but then we wouldn’t have had this fun romance to read about. And that would have been a shame.
I was given a free ARC of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
I was super excited to read this book, but it ended up falling a little flat for me. To be upfront. I was having a rough weekend so perhaps that negative energy carried over when reading this particular story--sad to report.
I love the sexually playful banter style seen in the description. However, when reading the book, the story just didn't capture my attention. I kind of pushed myself to keep reading it. I didn't really care for the deception Vince went through when he coached Jackie on how to lead on the runner while in reality hoping Jackie would fall for him. It seemed a bit manipulative and not the best idea when both Vince and Jackie carry baggage from prior failed relationships.
I appreciate the opportunity to read the book, and I hope others respond more positively to it than myself.
