Unfortunately i struggled to get into this book, it was a hard read and i didn't really connect with the characters. I think the plot and premise of the book as a whole is good, i just found myself uninterested half way through because i couldn't connect with the characters.
Sadly I really didn’t connect with this story Or the writing and because of that I didn’t finish it. I was unable to post a review on my platforms because of that.
This book was not for me. Unfortunately, I did not finish it. I read a few chapter to get a feel of the story, its writing style, and character. I was unable to immerse in the story. The synopsis sounded like something I would have liked. The characters sounded interesting and relatable.
Other people might enjoyed better than I did. It has an easy writing style which can make it a good, fast read to relax oneself. It just wasn't for me because I was unable to connect with the story and its characters.
The cover is beautiful.
The Hot Guy has some interesting content but the one thing I personally found to be extremely interesting was the way one-night stand and rebound relationships are looked at in both positive and negative lights. However, the book is lighthearted and extremely funny in place and is definitely a great pick me up read.
Ah so this book was a DNF for me? I mean I started reading it, it was decent and all. But it didn't hold my attention for long. I started with something else and just never got back to this book. Cos honestly that would require me reading the whole thing again, and I aint got that time for this book.
So Three stars cos its was...okayish?
The Hot Guy is a story told from two perspectives. That of the eponymous “hot guy” – Adam – and that of Cate, a girl who has initially used him for his good looks but in turn has fallen for the person inside. The course of true love never runs smooth though and before long we see both fall into the perils and traps of any new relationship before imploding.
The Hot Guy was a nice read. It seemed to have the desire to be similar to When Harry Met Sally but didn’t quite have the execution. Some of the jokes fell a bit flat and became a bit repetitive. Also, when you strip back the main over all problem of the book – that a guy is offended because he is too good looking – it makes the premise seem just a tad weak.
The Hot Guy is what I would refer to as a beach read. One that you forget about quickly after turning the last page.

Sorry but I tried several times to get into this story but it was a no go for me. While it’s not unusual to not like the characters it certainly helps, neither Cate or Adam kept me interested. Maybe my sense of humour is also different as I really didn’t find this amusing, of course it will have appeal for others. While this a work of fiction I found some of it unbelievable especially the kidnaping. The style of writing was fine.
Unfortunately I couldn't even finish this one.
I don't know what it was exactly but I really disliked the writing style and just found the characters so incredibly unlikable.
I ended up losing interest on this book and at this point I don't think I'll read it
I read this book on a recent holiday and really enjoyed it. It was such a light and funny read and the perfect thing for relaxing by the pool or on the beach. There were a lot of pop culture references, which I was unsure that I would get with this being from an Australian publisher and sometimes humour can be regional, but if I missed any then it didn’t spoil my enjoyment of the book. I think having seen every episode of Kath & Kim helped. Otherwise, I never would have known what a doona was. (It’s a duvet).
If you’re looking for a good beach read and like your rom-coms light and funny then I’d definitely say give this one a go.
DNF @ 15%
Nope, nope, nope.
Right from the first chapter I realized that this was likely not my style of book. It reads like a bad fan fiction or some attempt at an improvement on 50 Shades of Grey. The characters are very one-dimensional, selfish, rude and just all around snobby. And not snobby in the Mean Girls or Clueless way that is fun. This is snobby in the, I rule the world and everyone should love me way.
Maybe there's some good jokes in here, but I didn't read any jokes I appreciated in the first 15%. Instead the lead gal was crass, rude and flat-out insulting. I've got better things to read than sub-par writing and characters.
The Hot Guy is a Romantic Comedy. It has splashes of brilliance interspersed with strange scenes that do little to advance the plot. I am likely not the target audience for this book, and I must say that I did not find it one I had trouble putting down. I actually found it difficult to finish. The relationship between Cate and Adam seemed to go fairly smoothly despite Adam's fan club of which he is totally oblivious.
Thank you to Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review a new author's book, The Hot Guy.
While THE HOT GUY is not a book that will change your life, it is the perfect beach read for movie buffs. It has engaging characters and although the premise is unlikely, in this era of interaction through social media, not entirely implausible. It really would make a great rom-com!
This book caught my attention as the blurb mentioned that the two main characters were a movie geek and a sports publicist. I was thinking that perhaps this book would be a comedy that would include the joys of both films and sports. I was wrong. The book makes fun of both and the "comedy" is juvenile at best. We didn't learn much at all about the characters except they like to whine about whatever was going on in their lives at that particular time and that they laced lacked any sort of intelligence. This was not a book I enjoyed and I failed to laugh once.
The Hot Guy will not win any literary prizes. I doubt that it will win many readers, either. The story starts out just fine. When Cate meets Adam, the Hot Guy, it looks like it will just be another fun hookup. Instead she and Adam seem to hit it off. The story then goes rap[idly off the rails. We meet The League of Icarus, a group of women who are in line, they think, to be Adam's next hookups. They kidnap Cate in one of the most ludicrous scenes ever written. Well, there is soon anther one at the stadium. At this point I started skimming rather than reading. The Hot Guy had lost my interest. Granted, I may not be the target audience for this novel. 12 year old girls might think it is a real hoot.
Thank NetGalley for the opportunity to meet The Hot Guy.
If you're in the mood for a silly sweet romance, this is your book. Otherwise, look elsewhere.
Adam, a serious cinema nerd, who is looking for the one. But has no idea that he is the Hot Guy – a man so ridiculously attractive there’s a Facebook group dedicated to seducing him.
Cate, a sports publicist who jokes too much it turns guys away after a while. She is feeling upset over another failed relationship. When her friends suggest the perfect pick-me-up: a night with the Hot Guy.
But that one night leaves both Cate and Adam wanting more.. What happens next?
I liked the story plot and idea but it just didn't flow as well as I would of liked. It was too wordy and I didn't get some of the jokes and I found myself skimming parts to get to the good parts or just to get on with the story. I almost didn't finish it but I felt so bad for Adam. It was a good story but it was ok.
Hmmm. I don't know that this is a book for me. Adam was treated like a piece of prime rib. I found the characters rude and kind of mean.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this book.
I just couldn't finish this book. I generally enjoy chick lit, but after just a few pages I realized this wasn't going to be for me.
I'll have to be completely honest, I found this book a struggle to get through. I seem to have this infuriating trait, where even if I'm really not enjoying a book, I still have to finish it. This one came very close to not making it.
The story is basically that a (really unfunny) woman, Cate, gets dumped by her boyfriend for making terrible jokes and her boss sets her up with this dazzlingly hot guy for a one night stand to get over her ex. She ends up staying with this hot guy though, which brings on worlds of drama after a whole a league of women who are 'in line' to sleep with this guy end up kidnapping Cate and causing riots at sport stadiums, amongst other drama, simply because 'the hot guy' is so hot. (It's as bad as it sounds.)
The characters were unlikeable from the word go. I'm usually a bit of a sucker for a cheesy chick lit book with bad jokes, but the 'jokes' in this book were absolutely beyond me. They started off so badly, they actually made me cringe, (something about not going to the polo game because of yolo...) and then moved on to include racism and homophobia.
"You know what I think?" said the old lady taxi driver.
They all nodded.
I think we're letting too many Muslims into the country."
The racist jokes were infuriating, the film puns were annoying, the characters were horrible. I got sick of their shallowness and incessant need to keep mentioning that they hated sport (without actually ever naming a type of sport....)
The more I think about it, the more I really, really disliked this book...
